Crossbow discussion

Recommended Posts

So I'm sure you've all heard it before. I have as well, but I'm a firm believer in what I wish to say. Now we've all heard the argument "Crossbows are awesome but the ammo is so big and takes up inventory space!" I've come up with a solution. A very doable solution. The quiver. "Oh we all know we want a quiver blah blah" I'm sure you all do and such. But here's my suggestion, go ahead and read.

TL:DR ^ I haev gud idea 4 x-bow :D

First off, have you ever noticed how during the reload animation to most rifles, the magazine is actually swapped out, as in the model leaves the gun model? What if for the quiver, the model is actually attached to the arm or hip?

"What about individually reloading each arrow?"

Rocket put animations of swinging a hatchet and a crowbar in the game, and that means that custom animations are a thing. What I propose is that after every shot, part of the 'recoil' animation you get from shooting would include a two to three second "pseudoreload." It executes a reloading animation, but in reality it just takes longer to shoot between shots. The REAL reloading would be changing from quiver to quiver, which I'll leave up to the modelers and animators. To me, and I'm sure this would be changed or tweaked, I'd say a four bolt quiver would be a perfectly acceptable substitute for the single steel bolt, and just as balanced.

I also think that the quiver of bolts should be a "combined" item. That means you'd need four regular bolts to make them into a quiver, sort of how four sets of two-round slugs into an 1014 8 round.

This basically proposes a way to carry four times the normal amount of bolts, but it does so in a way that works with the engine and Rocket's tweaks so far.

As for the model for the quiver, I'm sure there's plenty of semi-professional modelers out there that would squeal at a chance to model for DayZ.

agreed, awesome weapon but the ammo taking up too much space means no-one sane uses it, which is a shame, 4-6 bolts per slot and there is a completely different situation.

I'm totally kudos on the combining 4-6 rounds into a one-slot item. Course it's been suggested a million times, but hey, I still like the idea and I'm not giving up.

While it has been suggested a million times over, I've also provided a very much possible way to make it work smoothly. ;)
