Hosting DayZ from within the S.A.

Recommended Posts

I would like to suggest we as consumers could host DayZ from within the Standalone when it comes out. I used to play the Novalogic Delta Force games and they allowed you to host a game from within so me and my friends could all play together. (free from Hacking and so forth)

The benefit to this was the fact I (we, my friends and I) didn't have to pay server providers money in order to play together. We had options on what we wanted to play, what map, weapons, time limits etc. We could even password the game so other less desirable people could not get in. this offers a better gaming experience to the existing one provided, which is all non conforming and splintered into just as many different ways of playing. private or public servers all offer different things so why not just offer the DayZ consumers the choice to host their own games free of charge?

rocket (Don't you think it's time you used a capital R?) has highlighted the industry on many occasion and has revealed that he would like the community to lead in this area, I would expand on this and ask him to give us the tools or permission to host our own games free of server providers (no names mentioned but no offence either) money has to be made and sponsorship, but I don't think much is generated from server hosting who are, lets face it, in it for the money and not the original developers!

I am not sure on technical specs for hosting a game, but what if you could, as mentioned D.F. was piss poor of a game but the personal hosting was brilliant and non demanding from a P.C. point of view, It the SA is being streamlined to suit and give better performance then I'm sure the technical stumbleing block could be bypassed. You could host the game from your p.c. and your m8s could join and you all play together, resources being shared between each users computers lightening the load.

Ask your self, would you like to host DayZ for free? would you and your friends benefit from this? It has always amazed me how people are willing to pay for hosting a game they had to pay for in the first place (in general, I know i didn't pay for DayZ)

Why is this?

oh, can you host the Mod from your computer, so you and your friends can play together? You open up DayZ and host a game? Pray tell me how to do this!

:P

The problem is rather that it's not the way the game is meant to be played. Sure I'd like to play with only my friends from time to time but after a while it just gets boring without the thrill of unknown players on the server.

But I guess, so long as it's not connected to the Official Hive I don't really see what should speak against it. I can imagine it being quite stressful for your connection and pc though. A lot of people even have problems with hosting a simple Minecraft Server for more than a handfull of people.

I found this tutorial that might be something like what you're looking for.

It's for an older version, but that shouldn't matter too much I don't think.

I've never tried this, so if anyone does get it to work, let me know how it goes.

I take no responsibility if anything explosive happens to your computer.

Cheers again for the how to, but I was only suggesting that hosting ability could be included in the Standalone. I would love to host games for Forum members and friends, you know where we all just link up and play together without no extra cost being incurred.

Why should others profit from hosting when it is not going to the Dev / support teams
