jaytmuk (DayZ) 621 Posted October 31, 2012 Am thinking alot of Dayz atmosphere is, or could be in the sound, at the moment the sounds are random, but i think maybe every opening of a door or gate could make a sound, same for firestation doors and warehouse doors, Dont think the sound should travel too far, but the fact that they make a sound would be cool and very scary.Be cool if anyone can think of other things that would make noises :P
Solitude 42 Posted October 31, 2012 I just think it would be the most perfect thing if in the forest you could hear like screams in the distance, and wind rushing through the trees, making that lovably terrifying sound. I think that you definitely add to the scare factor!
Mos1ey 6301 Posted November 1, 2012 Yeah, the sound in DayZ needs a lot of work TBH.Need to get rid of the ambient sound distant gunshots, they're pointless and distracting. And yeah, every action should make a sound that can be heard by other players. Doors opening/closing, maybe even picking up or dropping items. Also, the evasive roll thing needs a sound, currently you can move without making any sound if you just do that...
platecloak 14 Posted November 1, 2012 I'd like the distant gunshot sound - if it was from an actual gunshot. All sounds should be caused by something (well except perhaps wind and such). Screams should be from either zombies or player.

mr_chabowski@live.co.uk 2416 Posted November 2, 2012 I'm against the erratic ambient gunshot and screaming noises, simply because it fails to represent an action in game. When more animals are introduced, their movements, their actions, crunching of twigs underfoot and the rustling of leaves in the wind, will provide the right kind of background noise for the forest.Sounds caused by player actions should carry further in open areas.Hearing an echo of a gunshot through the hills would startle players more if they knew it was another player in the distance and not just a random noise.Every action should make a noise too. These audible hints would make stalking around bandit camps or stealthily following a survivor through town even more tense.
