Suggestion for a Better Humanity System

Recommended Posts

What I'm suggesting is that when you look at the player list it should list who is friendly, and who is a bandit. Then people can go around killing bad guys all day and not piss off all the 12 year olds who keep getting fucked on because they were ambushed by bandits.

This isn't 100% fool proof, but then again something like this isn't completely reliable. This saying, humanity should be permanent, if it is not already. I honestly don't know if humanity is permanent so don't quote me on that.

Humanity should be removed as numbers, because there is no limit to your humanity, instead they should have either 10 sections, Black at the bottom indicating they are the lowest kind of bandit and shoot everything that moves, then red, then neutral which would be white or something. After that you would have green, then blue etc.. (And when I meant 10 sections, I mean that all colour could be in different shades and such.)

Or, have some sort of bar that has a vertical line or a dot, red to the left side, neutral in the middle.. blah blah

Why have this? Because the current humanity system is buggy, and since it runs in numbers and there is no current limit (that I know of) then bandits would have to administer like 200 blood bags or something to regain neutral status. And if it is permanent, well you get the point.

Or..

There could be a system where players could rate other players. But I feel a system like that could, and most likely would be abused. So instead, if you see a player on the scoreboard, you can look at his DayZ profile to see what others have commented on him. Or just have a quick system like, Is this player friendly? "YES" or "NO" and other players can view it.

Self Defence:

Unfortunately there is no current system to determine whether someone has open fired on you first, and you shot back at them in self defence. Thus, you get a bandit skin and a negative humanity for killing someone who was about to kill you even though they had a survivor skin on. (This is why humanity should be permanent)

To fix this issue, the Devs could come up with some system that won't turn you into a bandit and give you more humanity if you shoot someone who has shot or inflicted damage on you first.

Sorry if you didn't I think I went enough in depth about these subjects, every time I put a huge effort into a thread the 12 year olds just ignore it because they can't be bothered reading it all. I sure you all got the gist of it.

I don't think showing a player's status in the player list is a good idea, having different degrees of bandit/hero is a really nice idea though. Would make it much easier to separate those who killed once or twice out of necessity from those that shoot everything indiscriminately. And yeah, we need some kind of self-defence system where you don't lose humanity if the other guy fires first.

I do think that it is kind of meta gaming to show every players bandit/survivor status but in the end it's up to the Devs to make the decision whether to add that or not.

This is always a problem. Players are always becoming bandits out of self-defense, which has ruined the humanity system to a degree. Currently Rocket has addressed the issue, and in the standalone I can promise you a better humanity system.

Humanity system needs to be removed, as has been said before on different threads -

I understand that bullets make you bleed and bandages stop bleeding, eating keeps hunger at bay and not eating will kill you and the same for other features in dayz, I understand them because they are ideas borrowed from reality.

someone please tell me what my real life humanity meter is and where i may find it? so i can have a better real life with nicer cars and be able to run faster etc. It is a bad idea because it has no basis in reality and therefore does not belong in a game that calls itself a simulator.

Having humanity based rewards is a bad idea, the only thing that should be rewarded is skillful play and that is already rewarded by the fact that skillful players last longer and therefore get more chance to loot and gather quality gear before they die. This whole good v evil/hero v bandit thing is daft and should be buried. There is no clearcut difference between them anyway, too much grey area.

Anything which lets you have information about a player that you cant find out from meeting them in game shouldn't be allowed.

Yes I agree but the reason I thought of it was that people can look to see who's a friendly and who to avoid. I am not all for this though, there is a part of me which thinks this might ruin the game, that's why I'd like to hear everyone else's opinion.

I didn't think that something as small as this would ruin the game, but it does destroy the reality of DayZ.

perhaps they could let the user choose certain skins based on their humanity.

Players with a low humanity can choose bandit or neutral skins, players with high humanity can choose hero or neutral skins.

Currently, the bandit/hero thing doesn't work because many bandits group together and blood each other up to survivor status again. I like the idea that you can identify bandits by the skin... yes, it's not realistic, but in terms of gameplay it's helpful. Of course, there needs to be bandit versions of most (if not all) the skins (bandit ghillie? I don't think it's possible). Currently, any skin other than the survivor one hides bandit status.

The way I see it, two things can help the bandit skin problem. First, people shouldn't gain humanity by aiding bandits (bloodbags, epi-pens, etc...) Gaining humanity should only occur when helping survivors. It seems to me that this is an easy fix, since it's already possible not to lose humanity for killing bandits. This won't completely solve the problem, but should make it harder for bandits to juke the system. Second, as there is now a proximity sensor for combat, there should be a proximity sensor for self-defense (hopefully tied to the person who fired the shot). If you enter combat due to bullet proximity, killing the person who fired the shot should be considered self-defense.

A benefit to fixing the bandit skin problems is that it may (though, with most kids, it won't make a difference) lead to less murdering by those with an imagination. More holdups and kidnappings - crimes that don't kill and result in a bandit skin. These are much more of a challenge to pull off... and, therefore, much more exciting.

Of course, some view the bandit skin as a badge of honor or just something cool to wear. These people should welcome the target they have on their heads. When I see a bandit skin, I shoot first and ask questions later... that's how it should be in this game.

Anyone Questioning that Humanity Meter its the ingame Equivalent of a Reputation if you get known for murdering EVERYONE you get shot on sight for it but otherwise your usually ok or Welcomed really often but you guys also need to realise that thats why its there so people get an idea of what he is like but Karma loss for self defence that just annoying

Yeah I'm not really certain there should be a humanity system to begin with because none of it really helps. I've only been shot and killed by someone with a bandit skin maybe twice. All my other player related deaths were done by people who either have the starter skin or a ghillie suit. Neither of which pertains to their level of humanity.

I'm not saying remove the humanity system because it tells you something about the player before you meet them or because I play as a female skin and therefore it's a toss up on my humanity level or because it's unrealistic. I'm saying remove it because it's a completely redundant mechanic of the game that really does nothing for anyone. I've been killed by enough people in starter skins to know that if I see someone else that I don't know, I shoot them unless there isn't a chance they've seen me already or are going to because I don't know them and I can't trust them. Undoubtedly if females were capable of having alternate skins, mine would be a bandit by now multiple times over because I don't take any chances when it comes to people I don't know.

I've told new players that are my friends repeatedly when they say they are gonna arm people to defend themselves if they need it "Give someone a gun in this game, they'll put a bullet in your face" because this game has become less about surviving for most and more about getting as many murders as they can before they get killed themselves. IE: It's a Deathmatch game for those who are bored with surviving and a survival game for those who still have fun surviving only with more dickheads running around with assault rifles to worry about as time goes on.
