Just read the new update notes. Are Hackers gone?

Recommended Posts

"[NEW] New Combat System If you fire a weapon, someone fires a weapon near you, or a bullet/object impacts near you, then you go into combat. During combat, "ABORT" is disabled. If you ALT-F4/close anyway, your character is considered "combat logged" and instantly killed and leaves a body.

* [NEW] Alt-f4 is now locked and will only open your status menu."

Both great ideas...

But here is my question.

I haven't played in a while, mainly because of the faulty cheat protection. During my two month absents I've been trying to keep up with current events, because I love the idea of this game. Sadly, the immersion is lost the moment you are teleported 100 feet in the air, or having the whole server teleported to a gun with godmode rocking a MK48, or just having someone appear next to you and blast you. Hard to be invested when you die with no way to prevent it. Alt+f4ing helped mitigate these problems in the past but it was still a hard pill to swallow. Now with the addition of this update I can only assume that the above problems have been fixed?

Well, BattlEye was very recently updated, and that may be hard to fix. This should have put most hackers offline, and if they did try then they would have been detected and banned.

Also this may cause problems with new ways of 'trolling'. Such as someone walking next to you with godmode on shooting at the air, leaving you unable to quit, that will almost definitely be a problem. I'm interested to see how this update goes. :)

There is a god.

For the sake of everything holy in this world let that be true and I will sing songs of praise

edit: I ran into a hacker ( or scriptkiddie ) about 10 minutes ago.............so ........... guess there not all gone

I don't see how the changelog detailing Alt+f4/combat logging is related to hackers in the least. Your title of the thread, Are hackers gone really isnt addressed in your question. Furthermore I'd like to point out the word you are looking for is "absence", In your ABSENCE, not absents! Thanks for playing better luck next time!

Sorry for my spelling mistake. English isn't my first language. but since we are on the topic, ISNT is a compound word. It should have a apostrophe. See I can be petty too.

As for the title of my post you misquoted me. The title is "Just read the new update notes. Are Hackers gone?"

You have to add the WHOLE title, not half of it. By doing that.. my point does make sense.

Commenting unintelligibly, only to troll doesn't suit you, but thanks for the bump anyway.

Thanks for playing better luck next time

You'll never actually be able to rid yourself of hackers completely. No game has ever achieved such a feat so I have a hard time figuring out why you'd assume a mod so easily abused as DayZ has.

You are correct. No game can completely rid itself of hackers. With that said, the level of hackers in this game is/was beyond a vast majority of any online game. From my gaming prospective it seems akin to the early days of counterstrike, where wall hacking was extremely common. Unfortunately, unlike that game Day-Z is not broken down into 3 minute rounds.

How many hackers do you see in most online games, really? They are rare. In Day-Z.... they are common place.

As for my assumption. I'd like to give the benefit of the doubt to Rocket and his team to fix the main problem with the game first, before repairing the only tool people have that helps mitigate the the lose of hours of game play to a hacker with a teleport script. .

I understand death dodgers are frustrating in a fair match. But, teleporting the entire server to one spot and unloading on them, thus trapping them in the game, is just horrid planning if you haven't fixed hackers first.

It's like vacuuming your carpet, while your house is on fire. Fix the main problem first... then address this.

Thing is that the anticheat used for ARMA II was never really designed for the kind of things the popularity of DayZ requires it to be able to do. The engine of ARMA allows - and encourages - modifications and, as such, has a lot of loop holes that make hacking, scripting and abusing so much easier than that of other games, ie. Counter Strike.

And the devs of DayZ have very little, if anything at all, to do with Battleye due to its status as third party software. They can work on a better anticheat system for the standalone but they can't really improve on that aspect of the mod so I don't blame them for fixing the problems they actually have the tools to fix first.
