How to improve player cooperation

Recommended Posts

As has been said many times, the lack of player cooperation in DayZ is neither fun or realistic.People work together in survival situations. During Katrina, 1,300 people were indicted for crimes out of 484,674 total residents. Let’s quadruple that number to get a more realistic number of 5200 criminals. This means about 1.07% of the population went bandit during Katrina.

Now maybe DayZ happens after the main event. Years down the road when people are more tribal and savage. People still work together, but they are segmented into different pockets of survivors that do

not get along with each other. This is my suggestion to promote player cooperation while maintaining realism.

Divide players into 3 teams. Colony-A, Colony-B and bandit.

Colony-A and Colony-B are hostile towards each other and bandits. Bandits are hostile with everyone including other bandits.

Members of Colony-A can’t kill other Colony-A members but can kill Colony-B members and bandits.

Members of Colony-B can’t kill other Colony-B members but can kill Colony-A members and bandits.

Bandits can kill everyone including other bandits.

Each player chooses what faction they belong to, but I will get into that later.

The percentage of players in each faction should be completely random and left up to the community. For example: a server could

Contain 30 bandit characters, 15 Colony-A characters and 5 Colony-B characters. The balance is left up to the community and random chance.

The percentages are determined only by what players happen to be in any server at any given time. If everyone wants to kill everyone then servers

will have more bandits. If the community wants more team work servers will have less bandits and more players belonging to a colony.

Players within a colony should see the nametag of other members of that colony at a medium to close range. The nametag

represents facial and body recognition of someone you know from your colony. No nametags should appear from medium

to far distance for any player. Facial and body recognition is not possible at long ranges.

3 ideas how you could choose your faction

1) On character creation. This is probably the best option. I don’t think it would be fare to let people switch factions with the same character.

2) On server join. This is the unfair option I my opinion. Letting people switch from a team, back to bandit, back to a team just encourages more

Shooting on site.

3) Every player spawns with a 2 way radio. This is probably the most simulator like way of choosing a faction.Right click on the radio in your inventory. You get a choice of 3 frequencies.Frequency 1 = Colony-A, Frequency 2 = Colony-B, Frequency 3 = Bandit. You can’t drop the radio or change frequencies until you start a new character.

I don’t like the two team Idea of survivors vs bandits. I think this game needs a three, or even four team dynamic to keep it tense as hell but also promote more teamwork.
