Playing Day-Z before it went mainstream I never really cared for Forums first of all. Then Youtube was invented (Timeline might be fucked here so move along if history is important to you) Then those popular channels who make money decided to peddle Day-Z to the masses!... Who... play Battlefield, Call of Duty, Counter Strike, so on...

Then the community turned to shit!

Now I see this Mod being more than a Mod and more like an addon in the future. Fuck it's a work in progress and it's like an addon. It's fuckin'. FU-KING awesome mind you.

I just see a little bit of a problem...

Now before I start we'll get one thing out of the way first.

I enjoy team work. My friends don't like the game because it revolves around Bandits. Say what you will - bandit vs Survivor = Bandit winning because he shoots first.

Right now Day-Z is attracting many types of people. We'll go ahead and name them for the sake of argument.

John Doe, a casual gamer who plays about an hour - two hours a day.

Coolio McShootums, A gamer who plays... constantly. Is all about action and if he spends two seconds of standing still he's punching himself in the balls for some sort of adrenaline rush.

See, John Doe wants more zombies. More of the Apocalypse feel and not just the whole... Well there's two zombies here I can take them out, and loot the place and be done with it. In all honesty John's feeling a little underwhelmed by the lack of zombies at times. Exploits on killing them aside, Ex. Walking into a house, turning around, unloading - they're not really a threat... They hit hard but if you KNOW you're about to agro 3 and can't take them out quietly - that's what you do. Or. Some people at least. John does it.

Only one problem for John, however. See he's been trying to find a gun and he's got two rounds left in the pistol he started out with and he happens to have nothing really of interest. When finding a pile of trash he decides to sift through it; only to be shot in the back of the head by someone wielding an Ak47 and revolver at his hip! Why? John was clearly a threat! Sifting through that trash and ready to slit the throat of any living or dead creature around with a serrated tin can! HE WANTED BLOOD! Or... maybe just trying to survive...

Well, after blowing Johns brains out Coolio McShootums smiles with glee and doesn't even bother looting the bodies. Hell it was obvious from the coyote pack and the makarov that he had little to nothing. Coolio doesn't need food either. Hell, the last several lone survivors he found had plenty of canned beans on the coastline. Easy pickings, he says. But what's this? Coolio McShootums friends arrive in the world - after of course murdering countless innocent survivors - and join him upon his rampage of killing single, harmless, coastline survivors.

He is clearly a bad-ass.

So, that was a long drawn out representation on the game as I see it so far. You have the person who just wants to play and be merry and the people who - despite having what they need - troll around killing other players for... their starter pistol.

No, there is no need to kill anyone really. In this game most of all. Though the lack of zombies and lack of threat (no fault of you devs if you're reading this just saying) brings in Coolio and his FPS pals to play DeathMatch with those who aren't interested. Almost like forcing people to play tag with you, only with bullets.

"Oh, but if that wasn't in the game it would take the paranoid feeling from the game."

--No, in fact any sort of paranoid feeling shouldn't ever be considered fun.

"We kill other players for their guns."

--Alright. What if they have a makarov. Gonna put that to good use?

"Okay, fine, we kill them for their supplies."

--Know what would be more realistic. If you traded like good little boys. That will never happen, unfortunately because you can respawn and try again. And again. And again. There's no real penalty.

So. Why not make Friendly servers. Increase the Zombie to Survivor ratio in these servers. Make it about core co-op survival for those who aren't into getting gunned down for no reason than to help someones silly little green face make an evil grin. Make bullets, guns, food harder to find so no one can camp out in one city with a group of folks for too long without getting overrun. Survival! Food, Water meters decline about 20% faster. Blood packs are rare, as are medical supplies. So on, yada yada.

Keep the servers you have now as a type of every-man thrill seeking game where everyone's a threat and there is no peace among thieves and murderers.

A few concerns seem to come up, an obvious trolling bandits rolling into Co-op servers because - lets face it... You already know who you are. Will most likely attempt to root out, draw in, agro, smoke, flares, ect. so add a kicking tool maybe. Such as; A majority vote. Over 60% and it's successful.

Say what you will, I'm just tired of getting murdered by someone for a goddamn makarov. It'd be nice to play with decent people for once.

I have no fuckin' hands, man.

Player diversity creates a more interesting and complex gameplay. Splitting up certain types of players into certain types of servers drastically reduces this great aspect of Day Z - differing sorts of people with different goals and motives.

It's just part of the game. I'll admit I generally kill on sight, but most of the people I do see are far above the "two Makarov bullets and a coyote patrol pack" threshold. I would love to see more teamwork and an incentive to work together in the game, but right now I'm okay with how it is. Yes, I occasionally get murdered at random and lose all my shit, but that's kinda the fun part. When I do get into a shootout it's tense and exciting.

Either way, bandits are a part of the game. They're obstacles blocking your ability to survive, just like zombies, dehydration, and starvation. You have to learn how to deal with them and adapt - before I started killing on sight, I avoided all players, and generally lasted quite a while that way. All it took was a bit of care. It became boring, though, so I moved on to what I do now, and it's spiced up the game a bit.

Oh, also, I disagree that there aren't enough zombies. I don't know where you go, but nine times out of ten I'm surrounded by at least fifty zombies in any given town. I once accidentally aggro'd one zombie and lead him into a barn to shoot him. I went into that barn with 19 kills. I left with 119. They would not stop fucking coming.
