Hooch180 0 Posted October 25, 2012 Hello.I found AS50 in heli crash site and 6 full mags. Now I need little help on estimating the distance to player. How to calculate distance to standing and crouching bandit? How to do it for 3x and 12x scope? On wiki I found this for standing and 12x:To estimate the range to a standing player/target (height = 1.8m) while using the AS50 with 12x magnification, use the following formula: r = 1375/hAnd for crouching and 12xTo estimate the range to a crouched player/target (height = 1.3m) while using the AS50 with 12x magnification, use the following formula: r = 1000/hGeneral formla 12x scope then is:[1.8 or 1.3] * 765/hIs that right? What is the formula for 3x scope? On wiki in one place they are telling me to take 1.3 for crouching player and in other place 0.9?What is the good formula? Bludy 324 Posted October 25, 2012 the guides are good, one of these tutorials has also the formula you want i think. I use the map, one little square is 100m so you set your firing range based on reference points in your vision and on the map. this is good when you are camping a spot, a bit worse if you find someone on the way and he's on the move, but can be done..maybe also better than making divisions per 1.80..anyway if you are under pressure you can also place waypoints or play on regular. glasscasket 33 Posted October 25, 2012 lol i think you're putting too much into it. as realistic as arma 2 is, it's not real life. if you really wanna find out how something works, use the armoury!i used to be pretty shitty but the dmr is a beautiful, truthful weapon. the usability of that, combined with a range finder and spare time i just scouted a lot of common situations that i might encounter during downtime. i wouldn't bother with doing the math, i'd just... do it and get the feel for it. it's a game, so don't expect the real world to apply(... yet!). you might not always hit but experience will do you more good than having to do that shit when shit gets real, nowhatimsayin
slonlo 43 Posted October 25, 2012 Get a mil-dot calculator (if you have a smart phone) and go ahead and punch in 1.8m and keep it at the ready. You can even expand on Bludy's idea and draw up a range card with landmarks. That's if you REALLY want to get serious though. The best idea, really, is to estimate the best you can and then fire a "sighter" and correct for the follow up. Especially with a semi-auto, you have plenty of time. I say this because you can't correct for range well enough to be all that precise. You're limited to 100 m increments, and chances are your target isn't gonna be a multiple of 100 m away. We need actual MIL adjustments!!
Hooch180 0 Posted October 25, 2012 (edited) But I still got one question. What is the height of crouching player? And what is the exact formula for 3x and 12x scopes. From what I read for 12x it should be 1.8 * 1000/hBut on wiki it says 1375/h. Why is it like that. Which is good one? Edited October 25, 2012 by Hooch180
