Removal of certain weapons/objects from Private Hive server?

I'm interested in learning how to remove certain weapons/objects from a private hive server... for example, removing all weapons with thermal sights, and removing spawns for items commonly used for griefing such as barbed wire, tank traps, etc.

I read through this thread here - http://www.tunngle.net/community/topic/83611-dayz-legit-loot-drop-modification/ - that suggests modifying the pbo files, however as I understand it any modifications to this file will require clients to download and replace their own files with the one just for my server, or allow clients to connect with files that have a signature that doesn't match that of the ones on my server, which could lead to some real issues with hackers.

Can anyone offer suggestions on how to accomplish what I'm after?
