Eating and Drinking Changes

Recommended Posts

So obviously hunger and thirst play a fairly large role in this game. One can die within, I believe, 1-2 hours without food or water if you choose to be an active player. But anywho, I'm just gonna cut to the chase: this kind of pisses me off. The average human can go approximately three days without water and a couple weeks without food before succumbing to death. While I realize that requiring players to ingest food or water every 2-3 days would essentially take out the role the consumable items in the game play, and while I realize the standard human cannot function properly without consistent food and water sources, I have developed a compromise: I want tiered hunger and thirst meters. Let me explain:

Every two/three hours of active play, the thirst/hunger meter increases by one tier. Penalties start to take affect every time you experience a tier increase. Overall, there are three tiers, after tier three, your player dies. The following will explain the penalties associated with a tier increase:

Thirst Tier 1: Player is normal.

Hunger Tier 1: Player is normal.

Thirst Tier 2: Player can no longer run indefinitely.

Hunger Tier 2: Player's sights waver roughly 20% more than usual.

Thirst Tier 3: Previous penalties stack. Player's stamina is decreased even further. Player is constantly breathing heavily, making him or her more noticeable.

Hunger Tier 3: Previous penalties stack. Player's sights waver 25% more. Player's vision blurs occasionally.

Death.

Well that's pretty much it. Let me know what y'all think.

rocket once said that one of the enemies to the player is the body, so shitting will be added. Well i think he is going to tackle, if we try to being authentic, should we have like 8 tiers, and the last be exhaustion or anorexia where the player cant move if he hasnt consumed nothing for like two to three days, and make the tiers go down one every 3 hours. And making him become more and more hungry a bad thing, if he eats every 3 hours his stomach can grow larger so he will need a little more food next time, the hindrances should really start at the 3rd tier, where he is starving a little, eating each 6 hours should be the real need.

If sleep is implemented, i bet it wont, hunger would go 2 hours slower than normal, or 1.

Well, your idea for tiers and food is interesting but needs a little balancing

one question, how often you want players to eat, and how important do you want to keep food for the SA?

Thirst Tier 2: Player can no longer run indefinitely.

You shouldn't be able to run indefinitely. This is a reason why zombies aren't of a higher threat.

I'm pretty sure that the rate of food/fluid consumption is currently based on activity level, which IMO, works pretty well even with the somewhat short/unrealistic time frames.
