WarpNinja 6 Posted October 17, 2012 After talking with a few people in the community i have seen that a lot of players out there prefer not to shoot players if they can help it, they are just players in the game just as much as we are after all, however everyone i come across prefers to shoot first and ask questions later. i know if i'm playing with friends we will either try to avoid them or, if they have noticed us or are going where we are going then we may have to shoot them. I know how much more exhilarating the game is made my KoS players so my question is this, should shooting a player be seen as a bad thing or should it just be accepted as as commonplace occurance in DayZ? thoughts and views are much appreciated
ORiGiN Machinima 215 Posted October 17, 2012 (edited) Should be accepted as commonplace I believe personally.Without the KoS players, the game just wouldn't be as addictive. Theres something about not knowing where the next shot is coming from that adds a layer of immersion I can't find anywhere else.Me and my band of friends usually stay in the shadows, or if we're feeling lucky approach them with guns up on all sides should the terrain allow it. But the slightest sign of trouble just leads to us filling them with lead. Perferably we leave them unless they have a high value item, if you're in a car that can take all of us then its going to get ambushed - thats just how things work in the apocalypse! Same thing happens to us ofcourse, god knows how many times we've made stupid descisions, or driven too slowly.Moral of the story: Keep your weapon up, always. Airman (DayZ) 10 Posted October 17, 2012 When I sneak up on a player I give them clear, simple instructions through the mic. If they obey, I help them out and we both get out of there alive. If they try to run or choose not to follow these instructions then they get shot.Same goes for if someone sneaks up on me, if they take a shot then I run for cover and a firefight goes down. If they give me instructions then I follow them unless I get the feeling they are going to execute me, in which case I look for the best opportunity to take them out. sneekygreenman 196 Posted October 17, 2012 Im a medic in game, i tend to spawn, get to electro/cherno, get a gun, raid hopsital, open up the church as a clinic open to bandits AND survivors. So no, i dont shoot on sight unless its a confirmed bandit.yup...I die an awful lot, but ive had alot more fun experiences than if i played bandit i think... hunterhalloo@hotmail.com 6 Posted October 17, 2012 I've died a lot to players that i was attempting to figure out if they are friendly or not.So i dont really stay friendly anymore to anyone, unless they drop their gun within 10 seconds, without turning towards my voice when using direct communication.Despite using my mic and giving them directions on how to get on my good side, i've most often ended up getting shot at, rather than gaining an ally.I have a strict policy about snipers in general as well. No mercy. I have never encountered a sniper that did what I asked, nor even attempted to act friendly. They just shoot you on sight if they see you from a distance, near their position or if you even look at them from a distance. The only person i've spared from my policy of "talk to the gun" or "aim at me, i shoot you" was an adorable new player outside of cherno.I had just found a motorbike, refueled it and had gone around looting crashed heli's for two hours.I came outside of one of the restourant loot places in cherno, hopped on my motorbike and went to loot some food in another area.Along the way, i spot an unarmed player, bleeding, constantly collapsing from low blood. So i stop, patch him up, give him blood, put my PDW and three G17 mags in the motorbike, and tell him he can have it, along with the motorbike. The motorbike also had a jerry can in it, with fuel.As much as i'd like to be a hero that goes around transfusing blood, giving weapons and vehicles to unarmed / low geared players, i fear that any player that has played for a few weeks, knows that killing on sight is the most used strategy. So next time i see that lovely guy i gave some stuff to, i have a feeling he wont be satisfied with A weapon or a vehicle. He'll probably shoot me on sight, even if he recognizes my voice.Anyhow, thats how i tend to do things, despite only having played the game for a month (since september).I'll help people if they need something, but i wont trust them unless they're unarmed when i first meet them. Sula 1205 Posted October 17, 2012 How do you approach other players?Preferably, in writing, via a UPS or other courier! Or even better - don't!

rooneye 135 Posted October 17, 2012 (edited) My approach is pretty much the same for unarmed Bambi's as it is for Ghillied/bandit sniper/well armed, but with subtle differences:If its an unarmed Bami: *Calm voice* "Friendly, I'm friendly man, I not gunna shoot you"Well armed Bandit: *Panicked voice and running around in circles around the player* "Friendly! Friendly! Im Friendly! Dont shoot me!"The running ir circles is pretty funny if you stay close to them xD Its hard to them to even aim at you.
