Game is not availible. SayWhut?

Recommended Posts

So, my computer is freaking out on me about every now and then, killing my DayZ install in the process and making me do some random crap to make it work. This time around it is that Combined Ops can't be run, it says:

The game is currently unavailable (Application running)

as a steam message every time I try to boot Arma 2: CO. This is a manual install of DayZ to my steam files, no Play withSix or DayZCommander included. I think it has something to do with a new release of the beta patch which might have screwed it up, but I don't know (it jumped from like build #97771 [somewhere in there] to somewhere around #98524). What can I do to fix this issue, preferably without using Sixupdater or Commander? I like my steam overlay for DayZDatabase :3. Thanks for the help!

(P.S. I have tried verifying my Cache, all it does is want to say one file is missing and that it will be reacquired, which when I go to run the basic game, just OA it re-installs the file and then dies again, refusing to fix CO. I am guessing I have to do a fresh re-install of OA, or both? Thanks again!)

(P.P.S I have also tried running as admin, and I have also tried completely shutting down my computer and steam, nothing works :l Thanks!)

If you fix this issue, I will be looking like this if it works:

I found a solution, well it worked for me anyway.

1) Cut your "AddOns" folder from your Arma 2 directory (Steam>steamapps>common>Arma 2)

2) Paste it to your Operation Arrowhead directory (Steam>steamapps>common>arma 2 operation arrowhead)

3) Inside your Operation Arrowhead folder is a new icon marked Launch Arma2 OA Beta Patch

This is presuming that you're using Steam and that Steam is installed in the default location on your C drive and you're using Windows 7 64 bit. It will have a different path if you have it installed elsewhere. You need to modify the target line to say something like this:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\Expansion\beta\arma2oa.exe" -beta=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion -nosplash -world=empty -skipIntro -mod=@DayZ

Open up Steam and go to the game library. At the top of the screen, select Games and then Add a Non-Steam game to My Library...

In the window that appears, click the Browse button, then navigate to the Operation Arrowhead folder and click on the Launch Arma2 OA Beta Patch shortcut. Then choose the Add selected programs button at the bottom.

Steam will create a new shortcut in your games library marked arma2oa

Go to this new icon and right click it and select Properties. We're now going to modify it in exactly the same way as we did the shortcut above.

Make sure the Target line reads like so (your folder path may be different):

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\Expansion\beta\arma2oa.exe" -beta=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion -nosplash -world=empty -skipIntro -mod=@DayZ

And also change the
Start in
line to read like this (again, your folder path may be different):

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\"

Finally, you can change the line under the icon that reads
arma2oa
to be
DayZ
instead. It makes it pretty convenient that way.

Now try running the game using the shortcut you just made in your Steam Library.

Edit: I found the 'Make a shortcut' method from a DayZ Installation Guide, it's more of a convenience to do it.

OK! I am gonna try this later today, if this works then THANK GOD (and you, of course). Yes I use Steam 64x, but yes I did install on my second backup drive cuz it's MUCH bigger for all my steam games. my Steam path straight to Arma 2 is something like:

F:\Steam\steamapps\common\Arma 2

or F:\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead

but do I HAVE to cut the addons folder from the regular Arma 2, or can I just copy? Will that ruin my original game, or will it just redownload the missing folder?

Also, does this actually fix Combined Ops, or does it just circumnavigate it and go straight to DayZ without the game, leaving me with my issue?

Thanks!

Arma 2 won't function properly if you remove it's AddOn folder from it's directory (but you can easily fix it by just putting the AddOn folder back to the Arma 2 directory). If you Copy and Paste it to your OA directory then you're just adding another 8 GB to your HDD.

So unless you actually play Arma 2, then I wouldn't bother Copying and Pasting it.

This worked wonders for actually getting the game to start! However, now I'm getting script restriction #40 and getting kicked whenever I play on a server =/

Well, that sorta-kinda worked. It now loads Combined Ops but it didnt load the mod, so now what? Do I need to reinstall the DayZ mod?

ALSO, when it loads Combined Ops, it says Arma 2 in the top right corner, Arma 2 and Arma 2 OA in the bottom left. It says nowhere that it actually loaded Combined Ops.

Finally, in the expansion tab of the menu, it DOES list @DayZ there, and it is checked, but it does not load it (so it detects it, it just doesnt load it). Now what?

(P.S. Thanks for the help so far!)

You don't need to run Combined Ops if you've got the AddOns folder from Arma 2 inside your OA directory, just run OA as it is, or use the Shortcut Method in the OP.

Do you have your Launch Parameters setup? i.e - -mod=@DayZ

I have the launch parameters set up for the shortcut and it does not seem to work, but running plain old OA seems to boot up DayZ anyhow (although it wont let me on any servers, says Bad Version)

I assume the final steps is to update OA to the new beta? It says in the server select menu that I am running on 1.62 when I need 1.62.97771. Should I get that, or the latest one? (98148)

I want to understand all this but I don't. Surely we should all be putting in fault reports to steam.

We can't because of two reasons:

A. It is not Valve's game, its an outside programmer putting their game on steam for sale

B. It is a mod. By definition, they are not responsible for anything that happens if you mod the game and it goes wrong. The best they can do to help is let you uninstall and reinstall the game.

Also, you may have not seen the edit I just did to my previous post. Are these beta patches backwards compatible? (AKA, should I get the latest one, or the exact one the game calls for?)

Also, I don't think the beta updater recognises where my Steam Folder is, and I have learned from experience that if you move the steam folder it corrupts it. Can I change the beta install path?

Steam doesn't let me open ArmA 2: OA at all, so this isn't the mod's fault. Definitely something wrong at Steam's end.

Exactly, Fonzie. Arma 2 is not a mod, it's a game. And steam is saying there's an error and the game is not available. That's stopping us playing dayz. :(

I also believe that it's steam fault as well. I went to launch Combined Ops today to play DayZ and when I did, steam told me it needed to "optimize" the game data or something. So I let it do this. When it finished I launched it again and the game loaded properly but I dropped the beta update. So I reinstalled the patch I was using from the files on my computer (didn't re-DL the same file from beta site) and that's when I got the launching error. Steam did something to break the game. I even when as far as uninstalling the both arma 2 and Arma 2 OA and reinstalling both the beta I had and the current DayZ release (1.7.2.6) and I'm still getting the same error. Gunna try again but completely erase Arma 2 folder from drive and use latest patch. I'll reply again if it works.

Same problem here when open my Combined Operations. I tried to play by the ''Launch Arma2 OA Beta Patch'' and I'm getting battleye ban only in the Dayz servers.

Can you guys join any Dayz server launching the ''Launch Arma2 OA Beta Patch'' on C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead ?

I opened a support case for it yesterday. Steam is going the BS route and blames BattlEye atm...

Well I finally got everything reinstalled and what not (took me a while since I had to do it twice. First time I got Shader errors when launching) and the problem resists. I do noticed though that it's an issue with the Combined Ops launcher in steam as both the Arma2 and Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead launchers both work fine. I only get the issue when I try launching Combined Operations, which of course is what you need to play DayZ. If anyone can figure this out it'd be nice.

Well, my original problem is left semi to completely unsolved. I still can't play Combined Ops, but it now turns out I can attempt to run DayZ without Combined ops by running it through regular OA. Not sure if that is a bug or not. It also refuses to update OA to the beta patch I need to play DayZ, so still pretty much at ground zero. Sucks, might be forced to reinstall.

I'm also having this problem. Wasn't even trying to play DayZ and don't have the beta patch installed. Just tried to open Combined Operations like I do everyday and I get that error.

Hey guys, found this out this morning while trying to play Warfare BE ACE with my friend.

In the Operation Arrowhead folder (\steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead) there is a file called _rumA2CO.cmd if you click on this it will run combined operations. Also it loaded my mods (Not DayZ) that I had last. This leads me to believe that it will use the mods in your Start-up Commands from steam. I haven't tested that, but I hope I am correct.

As for beta patch, I directly copy and paste the exe from the expansions\beta folder over the original. I got an error earlier saying OA wasn't installed (I think that was a SteamMover thing) and all I did was verify client data then install patch and then overwrite exe's. If you feel uncomfortable with that, you may be able to try the other cmd file ( _runA2Cobeta.cmd) which most likely works.

So anyways, use the Cmd file to run it and you should be fine! I also submitted a ticket to Steam/Valve this morning. No response yet, but hopefully it will get fixed soon. Good luck!!!

PS... you can create a shortcut to that cmd file and drop that on your desktop for instant Combined Operations!
