  1. I believe I said I think the PvP approach needs to change, But not be removed. Actual thefts need to take place, robberies, hijacking, groups patroling claiming to be the cherno defence force, People can make this game what ever they want it to be. It appears all they want is to snipe fresh spawners because thats l337 and just generally kill on sight. All we can do to stop such behavior is to be the better person. There's always going to be the kinds that will shoot people who have just spawned on the coast. There is nothing we can do about this. But people can take it into their own hands to hunt said people down. On one private server I play on I hunt, I kill, I smash camps, I drive vehicles into lakes, And I shoot at you the instant I see you (Provided you are armed and would be considered a threat) The people on this server (It's a small server) Are all known friends in the gaming world, And I often let them retrieve their kits so I can hunt them again next week. But on the public hive, I have a hero status player. I've maybe killed a max of 15-20 people over 5-6 months of game play. 90% of those shots being in self defence. I now use my public character to hunt those who shoot fresh spawners (Or I'm assuming are doing that) Just recently I shot someone who was sitting on a roof top in cherno with an L8A5, Sure they may not have been killing fresh spawns (It was 5am server time sun just beginning to rise) But I assumed that with such gear, In cherno, At that time of morning, On a roof looking around over the edges your not exactly up to any good. So imo, I maybe did some fresh spawners some good during that process, 20 mins later, A guy with no kit, Approached me (Scared the crap out of me) And he and his mate where simply looking for people to play with. That was the FIRST TIME EVER. I have not been shot on sight, I was laying in the grass with an AS50, Coyote backpack, and goggles on my head, And the fresh spawner with a Lee Enfield Let me live (They had the jump on me, I had no idea they where even there) So this to me is hope. That some people want this game to be, Not easier, But more to belief that yes in an appocaliptic scenario alot of people would go bat crap crazy, But there would also be those, Who group together to do what it takes to survive. I've gone completely off track.... The Approach (Keywords APPROACH) to PvP needs to change, Not that there is PvP it's self. Frankie
  2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DKvD0ZR7YM&feature=g-crec This is the first instalment in a series of a few beginner guides to vehicles, their speeds and their capacities etc, I will also be doing videos on Helicopter tactics, take off and landing etc.
  3. I have one of those too, but I don't charge anyone to access it, although donations are always welcome.. As you can see from my control panel, I have access to all sorts of goodies. Also, clicking on that minimap will take me to a large, interactive map which shows all the vehicles and player locations on the server.. you can even make it "live" so you get trails where all the players and vehicles go. I always wondered how players could just show up and kill me when I was deep in the wilderness somewhere, or when I come across a clan's camp on their server and they somehow knew I was there despite not being online.. Trick is to have a bunch of good dudes that actually want to have fun with you.. not use their "hacks" to hunt you down and give you free butt sex. Anyway, here's what I get from DayZ.ST :)
  4. Alrght so i started writing an online novel, just because i can't find any zombie apocalypse based books worth a read. The book will be called Dead State, but the mechanics and styles of the terrain and content, including "easter eggs" are heavily based on DayZ. It was a major inspiration/ motivation to me to start writing this. Please give me some feedback, I will enjoy hearing from anyone who actually reads it. thanks ~Zach Xiserve hosting Dead State When the dead rise, will humanity fall? Zach Hoffmann 2012-2013 This book is copyrighted to the authority of the above stated author and the following companies: XiServe Dead State Dedicated to all of you die-hard Zombie fans out in the world, and of course to my wonderful cat Simon. Part One. Chapter One. June 27th, 2013. Somewhere on the road, Wisconsin. The sky was dark. At this time of night, not a single person would be on these back roads for hours, not till the men and women of Hudgensville and the surrounding towns to head into larger cities to work. The red needle on the speedometer climbed to a speed of 90, right on the dot, the driver careless, knowing the roads are completely void of life, not a single police officer for miles. The driver, gripped the wheel with one hand, cell phone in the other, texting friends about his soon approaching stop at a campsite that had been reserved for weeks, just waiting for this day, for the day just out of school that he could finally relax, do what he wants to, not have a worry in the world. On the back of the truck, on the hitch, a trailer carrying a flat, white and green box on a single axel. The popup camper was not used to being towed at such speeds, although the driver had no care, he just wanted to get to the camp site to sleep, rest until tomorrow. Tomorrow being already today, the clock in the truck read 3:27 AM, an hour fast, at 2:27 AM he had been driving for 5 hours straight, only 2 stops, one for beer and one for gas. The camper was filled with all kinds of goods, food, from Twinkies to barbeque smoked ribs. Equipment, from survival to practical camping equipment, hatchets, propane tanks, fishing rod and lures. He was prepared to spend a week in the woods, away from everyone he knew except for a few friends who had invited him to a few parties going on throughout the week. This is the week that every high school in the area had their first full week of for the summer, there was bound to be trouble, and parties, which normally go hand in hand. As the road rushed underneath the truck, street signs passed by almost instantly. Just as the “ Welcome To Hudgensville” sign came into view, so did lights. Blue and red flashing lights. At that point the truck was moving at, what the speedometer read as 112 miles per hour, which slowly came down to a stop, on the side of the road just inside the city limits. The driver waited until the officer stepped out of his patrol car, then rolled down his window just as the officer stepped up to the truck. “Good morning there kid, I’m going to need to see your license, you were going awfully fast, clocked you at a hundred an’ two, do you know what happens when you hit something going that fast? It ain’t pretty,” said the officer, just as he received the license, “Okay, so mister Max Greene, do you have any explanation for why you were going so fast? I understand you probably just graduated and are excited to go out tonight, but that’s no excuse for speeding that fast.” “No sir, I was just tired, been drivin’ since nine at night, tired, just want to set up camp and go to sleep, you need my registration?”, Max mumbled, groggy yet the fresh morning air seemed refreshing, almost invigorating to him. “ I’m sure that won’t be necessary, I was a kid once, just be safe, don’t be out driving like a dumbass anymore you got it?” the officers almost sounded like he was joking, until he handed him back his license. “I’ll follow you back to camp, when you get there, I’ll just keep driving, hurry up.” “Really? Thanks you sir! I’ve never…” “C’mon, let’s go.” The officer, name tag Johnson, jogged back to his patrol car and within minutes they were back on the road. This time at a solid 45 miles per hour. They passed through the city, in almost five minutes they were on the opposite side, almost no cars were on the road, now 3:07 on the clock, driving across the open unmarked road, this early, with no cars, was the most free feeling Max had ever experienced. The window still open, the crisp, cold air flowing through the truck. The lights of their vehicles lit for a split second the sign that would change Max’s life forever. “Courcheval Camp Ground- Next Left”. Max turned off the road, the officer continued on as promised. No ticket, no warning. The best morning of his life even? He pulled the truck and camper into the site, #117, out of two hundred spots, this one was the most gorgeous. The perfect downhill scene of pine trees, tall grass, and the reflection of headlights on the water. The truck’s engine came to a halt, an eerie silence filled the air. He climbed out of the cab with a flashlight in his hand. He shined it across his camper to find the lift, he found it and began cranking. After twenty minutes of struggling, rebuilding, and fixing the camper, it was up. A bed on each side, on in front one in back, a dinner table fit for four ten year olds or two adults, and a mini fridge. The cooler placed outside, chained to the tire, filled with nothing but Pabst Blue Ribbon, a ton of food, and more Pabst. After the camp was completely set up with a fire waiting to be lit in the evening of the next day, cooler well stocked with beer, and a construction grade radio already loaded with the latest “Red Fang Album” plugged into the sites complimentary electrical outlet. Max couldn’t help but grab a beer, he sat quietly at the table, slumped over half asleep, still astonished at how the officer let him go. I could have been ticketed hundreds of dollars for that, yet he let me off, not even a warning. I wish every cop was like that. With that thought, he fell asleep. Only to be woken up a few minutes later to a noise familiar to him more than anyone else he knew. The sound of a Twenty Gauge shotgun. He jumped up and bolted out the door in a flash. The sound came from somewhere extremely close. He clicked on his flashlight, only to find in the middle of the road, a dead raccoon. “God damn thing tried getting at my food!” a voice, unknown by max, “He was in out cooler eatin my taters and broke a beer can open, damn near woke up the entire camp with this here gun but for crying out loud I payed for this stuff!” “Shit man you scared me! I almost had a damn heart attack, just fell asleep, and bam a fucking heart attack in a plastic shell just goes off!” Max shouted, still unsure of where the man was. “Oh sorry my boy!” he stepped out into the light, black tactical shotgun in hand, “Never planned on shootin’ anything this early in the mornin’!” The gun was jet black, just a pistol grip with no stock. The barrel was short, some sort of customized Remington 870. Max was somewhat scared by the man, but could not help but laugh with him. “I’ve been awake for 19 hours dude! I gotta sleep sometime, I’ll tell you what, you going to be here a while? “Yeeessir, be here all week, by the way, the names Jonah, I’m from Wausau, where you from?” “Down near Chicago, came up for the week for some parties and just to get away, you know graduation and all that” “Oh yeah I hear yah, I just came from my party, got in a fight with my parents and came down here, screw them, I’d rather pay to sleep in the woods in my truck than live with them.” Said Jonah, apparently also eighteen, they were both in the same boat. “You have a camper with you? Otherwise I got an extra bed and some heat in there if you want to chill in it” Max asked, hoping the stranger would say no, but at the same time thought it would be a better for the both of them. “I think I’ll be good, but hey I got nothing going on down here, mind if I hit up some parties with you? I probably know half the people at them, grew up just north of here.” “Sure, that would be great man, I’m heading back to bed, cya tomorrow?” “Yeah man for sure, I’ll try and not shoot anything between now and then.” He chuckled and walked away into the darkness. Max walked back to his camper, now awake more than ever, pulled out his old mp3 player and loaded up some music to sleep to. Mastodon will do just fine, although this gun toting redneck might not be the best guy to hang around with, whatever I’m too tired to think… He drifted off into black. The night quickly turned to day, the sun rising steadily, clouds moving through the sky at a breakneck pace. The day was moving, but Max was not. A loud knock came from the sheet metal door, and then another, with three more to follow. “Hey kid wake up! It’s noon already!” shouted Jonah through the screen door. “Hmph huh, wait what???” Max mumbled, still tired from the night before. “C’mon new guy, I gotta go to town, gotta get some more beer, accidently shot it all last night, not sure how but I did!” “Huh? Alright? Are we new friends or something?” he chuckled, getting out of bed, let out a huge yawn, and got dressed. He stepped outside, able to see, his 2001 Ford Ranger parked a lot line over from a 2005 Cummings Diesel. The Dodge was running, pretty loud, although the twin exhaust stacks in the box probably didn’t help the cause. Both trucks were black, almost the same glossy texture, except the Dodge was covered in mud and dirt. The Campsite was surprisingly empty, they could only find themselves as the only people in eyeshot. There was no noise, besides the roar of the diesel. Max started his truck, sounding wimpy next to the beast of a machine next to it. He unhooked the trailer, and went over to Jonah, who in turn was pissing on a tree. Max stepped of, giving some room for privacy. “What’s your name?” Jonah asked, “didn’t catch it last night.” “The names Max,” “Pretty generic, but still a name, you know the city very well?” “No, I haven’t been here in ages, last time I was here was 2005.” Max proclaimed, it wasn’t even a lie either, he was only eleven years old at the time. On a trip with his father, they were up canoeing and camping for a weekend. “Alright, basically there is a mall, a few drug stores, some fast food and the local grocery store. If you want, we can stop at the grocery store, Greg’s Supermarket. They got gas, food, and some electronics, although they are all generic, small town store right?” He laughed, zipping his fly and walking to his truck. “Hell I ain’t got anywhere to go let’s hit up the town.” “Alright, you got a CB radio?” asked Jonah, looking over to the ranger “Hell, never mind, some city kid like you don’t have a need for that, too much bounce off the steel buildings, won’t be able to talk, mount up let’s take two trucks, more bed space, the more beer you can bring back.” The two climbed into the trucks and were off, leaving all their camp supplies behind. Only things they had were themselves and whatever Jonah had in his truck’s toolbox. They drove down the road, not even two miles did they make it before being stopped at a police checkpoint. Both men rolled down their windows, and talked to separate officers. “Hey, what’s going on?” Max asked, surprisingly the same police officer from that same morning. “Well son, looks like we’ve been having some troubles in town and we are doing some drunk driving checks, may seem unconstitutional to you guys but to us it is all for safety.” “Alright well I ain’t drunk, at least not yet sir, we are just heading into town to get some of that miracle drink that causes such terrible, unsatisfying side effects.” He said sarcastically. “Well, just drive safe, don’t want any o’ yalls getting hurt, better get going there goes your friend now. “He stepped back, just enough room for Max to punch the gas, in seconds he was caught up to the other truck. As they entered the town, people were everywhere. More cars than he had seen the entire trip up, Max was surprised by this, he hadn’t realized this many people lived in a town like this. He followed the Dodge closely, they turned of into the parking lot of Gregg’s Supermarket, and parked sideways in the stalls. No door dings today. Max’s thought was well justified, as both of his Ranger’s doors were pelted continuously by doors of cars he had never even seen, all because of the parking lots at other stores. They left the trucks for only five minutes, they walked inside, took two carts, and filled each with Pabst, for some reason both had an acquired taste for it, neither could tell anyone why, they just liked it. They checked out, had just only counted, five 30 packs, to last an entire week. This will be a long week for them, a very long week. As they were waiting in line, the flat panel televisions around the store all went black. Max walked up to one and waited, joined shortly after by Jonah with a single car filled with beer and beef jerky. “What’s the matter, someone turn ‘em off?” “No, they lost signal, I know while we were grabbin’ the beer it showed something about Wausau, wondering if you knew about some sort of riots?” “Hell no, people around there aren’t too fond of others that feel enough hate to ruin things like business’, stores, buildings, and houses. Mostly kind people up there.” Jonah sounded worried by that. “Oh well, probably just fed up yet with last year’s election or some lame shit, let’s go, we got a party to attend to tonight.” Max demanded, the sarcasm in his voice over powered the worry he was hiding. The two loaded up the ranger and headed down the road. After a few turns, and one close call with a particularly old lady driving her Mercury Sable in the wrong lane. The two drove passed the spot where the Cop Stop was, not a sign of it ever being there. They continued on back to camp. As they drove on down the road, both shared a similar feeling of worry, it was a well-placed feeling that would prepare them for the future. The very. Near. Future.
  5. This is not an entirely new idea, but this post is more about how it could be implicated into the DayZ standalone. Discovering the past through journals, notes, and other written material or signs- These notes (just call them this for short) would give us a snap shot into the world before the virus hit, during the outbreak and the aftermath. These notes are not focused on telling the narrative of the game’s story but only to give glimpses of events through these unknown people’s eyes and how it impacted them. Examples: Player would search houses or locations and discover a note. When reading the note you will be looking at a one-page dairy of a little girl who talks about how she can’t wait for her field trip on XX date. Another note might talk about how their military vehicles are being seen coming into the area. He writes how his parents tell him; there is nothing to worry about. A note might talk about how there is a thick smell in the air from the burning of the individuals who came down with the virus. When the wind blows in their town's direction it can be almost unbarring. There have been many who have thrown up because of the smell. A mother’s note telling how there is talk about some virus, making people violent. The soldiers tell me to continue my day’s work but at night, I hear these screams, in the distance, and gun fire. She mentions how she wants to leave with her husband and child, but the soldiers won’t allow us. Some notes can be the helpful, one note might have written down a location where someone hides some can goods to make sure the loots can’t take their last of their food. There would be locations and given steps or meters from a certain barn equals the location of the small stock pile. The player can then use the note and find the stock pile with a shovel if it’s buried under the ground or rock. How this would work in game mechanics: Just as the player comes in and there is spawned items/loot, there is a chance that a note will be present, but you must look for it. Notes should be not out in the open, ideally if looting a place involves searching actual desks, beds, and closets. (Basically mouse over and click to search, and it will be a success or fail to find anything in desk) As for burred items, these should only spawn if the player has the note as the trigger. The amount of items in this little buried container should be random so sometimes you find little and others you find an extra can or two of food. A lot of this feature and the glimpses it would show the player would be determined by the narrative of the virus and how Rocket and team see how the outbreak happens. The notes should be from non important people not the key general on the base. Goal of this feature is to create an emotional grounding of the world you are in. Players will stop and read about a family who might have survived or might have been killed or became infected. A reminder to the player who people once lived here and had hopes and dreams, which are now gone. Their world is destroyed, and you will read in the notes how they struggled and lived before and during the outbreak. These notes are the focus to reflect the struggles that the player is also facing. Do I kill the looter or use warning shots to scare them away? A man telling how he shot his friend over a fight for some food and now how he fears that others might kill him. These notes could really show how bad things got and how the stress of the outbreak and chaos might have led to bad or justified decisions. Others might express how they won’t give into the chaos; they must be strong and stable for their family. The possible little antidotes are endless. What do you think?
  6. ingame name is FriendlyCanadian, this server is wonderful, love the additions you guys made and the vehicles everywhere! Takes out that long 8k run we hate! msconfig i will follow your command :beans: :o :beans:

    Loading into DayZ

I was wondering if there was a way to make the game to load in faster as it does in another game similar to this one. That is the only real major turn off I have with this game along with a few others i know. I love the game play and vehicles and such. It's the loading of the servers that is the issue.
  8. L85 Should it stay or go

Wasteland is actually pretty cool. The only things you're handed is a G17 with 1 magazine, compass & map. You have to search vehicles or locate a friendly base for anything better. It's basically a PVP focused DayZ clone without zombies, and better base building. It might not take you days, weeks or months to find the best gear in the game, but it still sucks when you get killed and have to make your way back from whatever random town you get spawned into. Try it out, you might be pleasantly surprised. I know I was.
  10. I will be doing a video very soon containing all locations of the vehicles up-to-date with the newest patch (1.7.4.4).
  11. So you guys are taking your banditry to a real life level? Thats just douchebaggery.. All I know is it sounds like you're the type of people that would get whitelisted on a server and then hack to kill everyone. And I cant really think of anything else that would piss people off. You'd kill somebody take their vehicles and then they'd go.. Oh I guess the people we've been playing with for a couple weeks betrayed us. Guess I'll gear up again and then not trust them anymore. Like.. dying is part of the game.. So you killed me, when I thought you were friendly? Big whoop. You're really skilled..

    Reliable Server?

Yup, I'm looking too. Things are too short lived... we need servers with some real longevity. The first (private) server I really put some time into building a player on - a woodland hermit type - that server's now gone down after two weeks survival. Another, with my brother - Panthera by MORTURIO - three nights play, bases carefully hidden all over the map, a chopper repaired and hidden... it was just getting really exciting - then the next night we found our server had changed the map to Lingor. Then there's unaccountable character resets, vehicle disappearances... All these issues stop me playing as I'd like, as I think DayZ was intended to be played - slowly building, sneaking, weighing up the risks and protecting what you've earned from being so cautious... with everything resting on each decision, each route you plan, whatever. Instead I end up playing it like any shooter I've already completed - entering into fights with other players, driving vehicles when it's obvious you're going to be shot at, risking a night's worth of loot to get 15minutes in a chopper... because there's a good chance everything will be gone the next day on account of some server issue - which takes all the tension and striving out of the game.
  13. I play DayZ cause I want to explore a large open world, where I scavenge, rebuild vehicles, accumulate stashes, loot, take to defense or offense with guns that work closer to how real world guns work than most games, fight zombies and fight and loot other players. I'm here cause DayZ delivers on these things. If you want a more PVE only experience, the question is why are you playing DayZ?
  14. Yeah I just rented a server yesterday and was surprised by how much power I have over the server. I changed the starting gear slightly, on my server you start with a bandage, morphine and a hatchet. It is pretty nice spawning with *something* to protect yourself with, but other than that, I refuse to abuse my power.. I was tempted to spawn myself a helicopter, but that would take all the fun out of finding and repairing one. You also can see where players and vehicles are, which can obviously be abused, but in order to use it, you have to open the map in your control panel.. Private hives are supposed to be for communities to play together, but a shitty admin can definitely abuse it easily.

    Admin perks? Rhino Crunch video.

Since it is a Private Hive, he's allowed to do this. Well, he's not hacking, but most likely using a hive partner (like ersan191)'s GUI to enhance things like giving the player weapons when they spawn, whether it's night or day, how many vehicles etc.
  17. Trust me bro I want all those awesome features as well. I miss my F35 VTOL Jet, as well as all those other sweet vehicles....Just gotta wait it out till the hosting company pumps out the new update then I'll incorporate it again. In the mean time we've been adding tons of vehicles and helo's, theres over 30+ Heli's now.

  20. Ingame missions/content. Make hunting&killing zombies "worth while" If zombies dropped items (even more % of simple survival items. food&water, kit-items, first aid, ammo) perhaps there'd less murder (random pk with no robbery) Gunbag. Either found snowboard/ski bag, diy (two back packs stitched together). Carries only guns or ammo. Slung on shoulder around backpack. Speed reduced by 25%~50%, increased visibility/noise. Perhaps needs to be "dropped" from inventory to access. (portable tent anyone?) Though Rocket commented that it'd be 'hard'. I'd like to see survivors that have been killed by zombies..to turn into a zombie (high %) (even if it's just the 'killed' 'skin-id' pasted on top of a normal-z. Those shot&killed, not looted or buried have a small % to become zombies. Switch ability to "improve/upgrade/modify/create" items (homemade scopes? revolver that shoots all 6 shots like sawn-off "shottie"), vehicles (again, imagining MadMax B) ), objects ("base" items being able to lay wire/tank trap/sandbags that toolbox cant disassemble, even if it's only for hours, days. Locking gates with a key or 'pass-phase'-on-paper in inventory to lock/unlock for clan/base leaders),..umm, tow-behind campers, trailers for atv/bike/dirtbike..hatchback? lulz @ imagining a construction-trailer towed to into the woods as a command-structure, ala Red Alert. Maca's idea for the axe/gun combo, I believe is ace. Doubt anyone would not want this. Orlok, why would Forum Team ask wants&wishes just to have Forum Team act condescending in reply? Now, cross your arms and say "As you wish Master" :P jokes
  21. Had server down for two hours to alter the database a little bit. Added in a grocery store to Kamenka, also a hospital to Stary Sobor. Futhermore, right now in the game world there are a few rare vehicles that have spawned - including a propeller plane, black SUV, camo trucks and a few other cool vehicles. Thanks so far to everyone who has joined the server and played, although only launching yesterday, the server is starting to build a nice community. More updates to come later.

  23. I absolutely love my new DayZ.ST server! The control pannel is fantastic, the map/vehicle/player tool is awesome, and the custom loadout tool is the greatest thing ever! My server has been running great. I get a better ping than my last hosts Dallas server. My server is running correctly too which is appreciated it. It is restarting as it should loot is cycling correctly, vehicles are respawning after they are crashed. I don't know what to do with my self now, lol. This is the server hosting experience I was looking for, too bad I spent two months with the wrong company.
