There are such things as no PvP servers. Private hives can enforce that rule and those who dont follow it are able to be banned, same as servers that say in the side messages 'No alt f4 or ghosting or ban' its perfectly legitimate to ban people for alt f4 and ghosting from a server even connected to the hive. I have been on no PvP servers to find gear and ive seen groups of bandits join.....and then get kicked for the first person they murder Those kind of servers are for newbies learning the game, or gathering gear without fear of getting shot if its connected to the hive -
Exactly. I've said this before, I think DayZ needs to take the Minecraft approach: one license, one account, one alias, that's it. Virtually all your problems of ghosting and loot farming would be eliminated.

Dear Snipers who interrupted our Trade.
Ryze replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
People are "being a dick to" you because of your ghosting and retarded behaviour in the game and in this thread, quite simple really. If having a 2nd character is "doing what it takes to survive" then we all might as well start scripting in whatever guns we want and taking what little realism is left, away from the game. You fucking died, so it's not YOUR weapon anymore, you have no "right" to it, so logging in with a 2nd character who just happens to be at the same place is totally unjustified. -

Jaycat replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
needs more people bashing his ghosting and combat logging rather than his inability to pick a decent trade position in my opinion. -
Tipical answer from an average script kid/cheater/exploiter. I hope in a future where when a player is banned from a game for scripting/exploiting the mommy credit card is banned too from buying any other game available. AS50 TWS was in the game, it's not part of the game any more . Alf+f4 to avoid death (like duping and server hopping/ghosting) is just an exploit of game mechanics.

I don't approve of ghosting with two accounts. Also, it was a stupid move to go to the top of the fire house in the middle of Elektro, even though it's pretty douhce to shoot what could seem like unarmed players. However, it's even more douche to get into another account to ghost kill players just to get revenge. -

There are plenty of ways to prevent multi-character ghosting, and I think multiple character would be really good. It would benefit 90% of players, while (If safeguards are made) hurting nobody. -

Yep, I agree with everyone else. I think DayZ needs to take the Minecraft approach where we all get one and only one alias. This would prevent ghosting and loot farming. -
Opinions on Official Hive & Non Official Hive servers.
[email protected] replied to Unorthodox (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
This. I really like the side chat and almost every if not all private hives seem to have it.I also see a lot of 'no kill on sight' like rules that force people into a playstyle, which in my opinion totaly defeats the purpose of playing this game. What I like about the private hive system is that you actually play in a persistent world because your character only exists on that single server, there is no server hopping/ghosting going on, neither can you just keep your loot hidden on a low populated server. That's what would make me play on a private hive but with all these rules they lay on you, they restrict the freedom this game is supposed to give you as a player. -

Fraggle (DayZ) replied to Sula's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
They seem to have kind of dealt with combat logging to a degree. If you log out while in shock you get a really slow knock-out timer when you log back in. That stops people ghosting to get behind you. I agree that getting shot at is different to being in combat but it's still cheating to DC. If you think it's a hacker though, that's a different story, just get the hell out of there! -
Is server hopping actually illegal?
ChernoPTA replied to grimsonfart's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
No, which is why everyone does it. There have been some attempts with the latest DayZ versions to make this less viable though. Sometimes the Hive will reset your positional coordinates to Kamenka if it thinks you're hopping, but this is also a bit of a mixed bag because it will also do this to people who simply relogged on the same server cause they got an animation bug and couldn't move. So it might be an attempt at trying to stop server hopping and ghosting, or it could just be a bug, who knows. Overall still not against the rules, but seems like someones trying to make it less viable. -
Since the mod seems to pretty much beyond repair imho. I've decided to rejig my suggestions list into a standalone suggestions list and remove discussion about the mod and bugs. There's so much duplication in here it's hard to credit original authors on the ones I didn't come up with myself but I try. Firstly communication. Dayz is all about interaction between players. It's important that communication is quick, clear and easy as death occurs so fast. 1: Whisper, Talk, Shout. Different ranges and audibility to both players and zombies. Also a whistle or some-such. 2: Improved hand signals for silent communication. 3: Walky talkies and radios for long range communication. http://dayzmod.com/f...walkie-talkies/ 3.5: (controversial) Find a way of either stopping 3rd party voice or making it transmit an audible (non specific "talking") noise in game. To encourage use of direct chat over 3rd party chat. And at least give those people that still use it the penalty of giving away their position in game. I discuss this at the end of the OP here: http://dayzmod.com/f...f-text-warning/ 4: Player Journals: http://dayzmod.com/f...ge__hl__journal . A great idea that will add a valuable humanising element. 5: Notes. Placeable notes. Being able to interact with players in this way is important I think. Limits will be needed of course. 6: Better hunting. Animals that are harder to hunt, they spook and run etc. Also I'd like to see Z's kill nearby animals, providing that feeling of a ravaged eco system and creating another unpredictable element to their behaviour. Combined with the zombie modifications below would create unpredictable zombie encounters. ie Wandering through the woods, a deer runs past followed by some zeds, then they spot you... Gear and loot etc: 7: A more involved crafting system. Makeshift weapons etc. Possibly more interesting cooking. 8:Far less high end military gear. I believe the CZ550 should be the top of the food chain for all but a very very lucky few. There should be less ammo and weapons in general , giving more of a scrabbling for survival feel. And tied in with the crafting system so you can always make SOMETHING to defend yourself with. Some discussion on this subject here: http://dayzmod.com/f...tality-of-dayz/ I also wonder if Thermal and NVG should go. The nightime / light mechanic is very rewarding. 9: Less predictable loot locations. Maybe a searching system so that you have to search more carefully to find goodies. 10: repairable generators etc. i don't agree with everything in this thread but there is some good discussion: http://dayzmod.com/f...enerators-v-33/ . I also know generators are in the game with an eye to being used so expect some of this stuff anyway. 11: Padlocks: Allows players to lock any door , blocking zombies. but players can break padlock with any weapon. Alolows players to hold up in a building against zombies for a while but not block players permanently. 12: Camo netting. To help hide vehicles. It's been suggested many times. 13: non lethal weapons. For instance tranq darts. To balance , bolt action, slow firing. !st hit slows player and blurs vision. 2nd shot slows more until they pass out. Epi pen neutralises effects. Again adds more gameplay options. 14: Shots damaging equipment. Discussion here: http://dayzmod.com/f...age-by-gunfire/ . Also weapon maintenance. Environment: 15: This ground mist is amazing, would be greatif this cropped up occasionally, http://dayzmod.com/f...136-heavy-mist/ . More atmosphere and horror in general. Zombies: 16: Zombies more curious about long range noises. For instance an explosion in the distance would make many of them shamble that way. Not agroed as such just curious. 17: Zombies not giving up so easily. It's currently to easy to lose zombies, and it is immersion breaking that they suddenly stop and give up straight away. A "searching" period after they lose a player would be nice. 18: Zombies spawning much further from the player, giving the feel that they are always there, and making them more dangerous , especially when combined with No: 16. Discussion here : http://dayzmod.com/f...ns-and-zombies/ (Ignore references to patch optimisations). 18: GORE. Lots more blood and gore all around. Be nice to see dismemberment etc. General: 19: Standardise Things: I'm assuming the standalone will provide a standard "this is Dayz" experience. http://dayzmod.com/f...dardise-things/ . Up the FOV a bit, and remove peripheral dots. 20: Server hopping: It's really nice to be able to change servers at will. And the flow of new people coming through a server keeps it alive in many ways. But I wonder if ghosting can ever really be fixed ? Do the pros outweigh the cons ? I'm not sure on this one but wonder if there should be a delay before you can go back to a previous server. Or possibly even being locked to one server ? 21: Linked maps to create a bigger playing area. http://dayzmod.com/f...linked-servers/ Achievable with current technology and doesnt have choke points. 22: Characters linked to timezones. So people can never TOTALLY avoid night-time play. http://dayzmod.com/f...synced-to-time/ Either this or possibly speeding up the day night cycle a little bit. Something to encourage nightime play as it is much more immersive. 23: Player customisation. More costumes and more mix and match, this allows groups to make a "uniform" for visual identification. This should include camo gear options etc, but Ghillie suits need to go, they currently overwrite bandit / hero skins etc and are too ... standard. These suggestions are or course just my opinion. But I feel strongly that Dayz is at it's best when immersion is at a maximum. I also know that there are elements of Dayz that really enhance the game but people avoid them because they put you at a disadvantage. Everything possible should be done to maximise the massive gameplay possibilities that Dayz has to offer, but that so many people never experience because they are given other options. The perma death mechanic is incredibly harsh but its what makes Dayz so compelling, there are other mechanics just as exciting in Dayz but they get overlooked. Im not discussing some issues such as Alt-f4, duping etc as I believe standalone will resolve them anyway.

Really bad idea. If someone gets killed, he takes his other char, runs back, kills the murder then he takes all the stuff. Ghosting would be a really huge problem with this "feature". -
North American group looking for a couple more. Requirements: Age 21 + ( no exceptions whatsoever) Teamspeak, mic and headphones, push to talk. Dedicated: You play every day as a general rule. Capable of listening: Everyone has an opinion but if a leader gives an order, you listen and do not complain about it. Experience players only. you know the map, know how to drive and don't shit yourself in pvp. No duping, exploiting, hacking, ghosting or server hopping. None. Integrity: This is a hard one to explain so I'll let you be the judge. PM me for more information if interested.

First of all, server hopping and ghosting. People can be in a firefight, disconnect and move behind you(Not directly) and spawn in to kill you. My buddy use to sit in the Barracks and server hop until he found good shit. Second, More cars. I like more cars. : P Third, Side channel. Yes people can spam over it, but there's a mute player option. We use the side channel to meet up or do a freedom bus. Lastly, Admins. On normal servers admins arn't on much and can't watch it. On Private hives owners and admins usually play most the day and can rollback the server if a hacker kills everyone so everything is fine. People have constantly bitched at me for using a private hive. They are there, and better in my opinion, or at least they're more fun. Hackers do come on the servers a lot, but with a good admin you can pretty much guarantee your fine.

Spectate Mode ~ Anti-Hackers
[email protected] replied to CerebralZombie (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Most of the time on a Dayz server, the administrator is part of the clan that actively plays on that server. Ghosting/metagaming is almost impossible to trace in Dayz, the only clue you'd have about it is that a bunch of guys seem to keep finding you, wherever you are in Chernarus. Allowing admins to spectate would be fine if all Dayz admins could be trusted, but unfortunately that isn't that case... -

YOU must show US proof! I'm not banned of either one of your servers (us 1088 and us 1669), but I'm getting pissed at the amount of people getting banned. Edit: Server name typo >.> -
FYI 1669 is no longer, because it is constantly being DoS'd. Not pointing any fingers. Also, MTN dews aren't hacked. :). Also there are hacked weapon tents near electro and cherno, I myself have seen them with my own eyes. So please bitch somewhere else. Ghosting, is not possible since as server admin we CAN'T SEE WHERE YOU ARE!

Would you like to explain to me why the CSA clan keeps getting banned after wiping your ZH clan on 1088/1669? Me, Jeremy, and Behee Just killed about 5 ZH members and after the fight ends I loot the bodies and we find duped items on every one of y'all (Mt dews/Satchel/RGO nades etc) And an M40A3/PDW SD/AS50 TWS, and seeming how your clan has had these before I decided to not be cheap and pick a as50 TWS up so i instead get the M40 and behold, we run up a hill to wait for your clanmates to return and we get a spot to camp, and BOOM, You have been banned for having hacked weapons :/ I don't understand your clan? Anyways, ban appeal for having a good fight then getting banned because I pick up the spoils of war, your clan is fun to fight with, all of the things y'all do cheaply we still enjoy the PvP, regardless of your server wide kicks and random bans and ghosting. -CSA Decise

Buy now or wait for stand alone?
Sparks (DayZ) replied to GreenWins's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Personally, Id wait for the stand alone at this point. The game can be fun but to many things are not working properly (such as tents and vehicles and ghosting and alt-f4ing and hackers) to really justify buying Arma II just to play this mod. So if you plan to play Arma II and enjoy that game aswell, then yes buy it. If your just buying it for this mod, its not worth it right now. But that is just my humble opinion. Remember, your paying for Arma II: OA, do not trick yourself into thinking you are buying Day Z, and then get angry if you dislike the mod. Also What Systemik ^^^^^^ said -

Ah, Beh.. rheeeeee... zzino... Yes, you can probably live there. Last time I was there, though, I found Mountain Dew, and only minutes after I heard a chopper. It immediately found me, even though I hid pretty well. It started shooting at me, but I defended myself well, so it went away, landed nearby, unloades some fellows who immediately started laying down cover fire (great job). Then a player (hacking, ghosting, cheater) spawned in front of me and shot me while I tried to escape. Also, Berezino is where I lost mah bike. My pretty, green, old bike. Even further, Berezino is where I thought I was safe, back into the tree-line, when somebody ran right up to me and cracked a M1911 right into my head and I instantly died. I've actually had better luck in Cherno. Conclusion: Don't go to Berezino. Edit. Further reasons: Sure, it's not easy getting an overview into the city, but on almost every side of it there are big open fields. While you could get lucky,l and the sniper isn't in your part of the city (it's very long), you can never really be safe. Another, last, reason to not go to Berezino: It's the place everybody assumes is empty, so everybody goes there... Meaning it's not really that safe after all.

@Devs/forum staff. Scripting and the future of Dayz
RaysGoodLiquor posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'm not writing this to cry about hacking. The current state of the game and community has encouraged me to stop playing for a while, and this is just an observation I have made that I think would benefit the future of the game. I don't need to tell you about the hacking problem. If you've played the game for more than a week, and have refrained from using scripts yourself, you already know how bad it is. I've already read everyone public statement Rocket about the game at least twice, so I understand where editing the engine and/or replacing BattleEye with an anti-cheat system that actually works would cost more in labor than what it is worth to the developers. It's a business, I understand, and that's not my beef. With anti-cheat measures about as effective as a 50lb bouncer, there has been a huge influx of "QQ Hacker" threads scattered throughout this site's various forums. This is a natural response from a dissatisfied customer, but I feel that the way the threads are being handled by staff is further contributing to the problem. When an obviously new player hits the forums to let you guys know how unhappy he or she is with the developers efforts to stop scripting, they are met with the standard response, "This has been addressed, we can't and aren't going to do anything about it, we promise that when you pay us for the standalone version we will fix everything, and thread locked. As a prior professional forum moderator and eventually administrator (professional as in I got paid to do it), I completely understand the need to "clean up" the forums to prevent 15 threads on the front page all discussing the same thing, but very few of the threads I'm seeing are open discussions as much as an outright complaint directed towards the development team. Why is this a big deal? 1) Scripting, and the excessive rare loot still circulating in the game's "item economy" has made the game unplayable for a lot of people. If you've been able to be one of the lucky ones that have played for 500 hours and never ran into a hacker (I call bullshit on this one), you must at least agree that loot balance is totally screwed up thanks to AS50 Thermals being about as easy to find as a Lee Enfield. 2) The problem is serious enough that the company, as well as personal pages from developers (like twitter) are getting bombed with feedback about it. When your customer base gets desperate for progress and is met with, "we can't do anything about it," that player quickly loses his faith in the company. With the massively over-hyped blockbuster titles of the last couple years turning out to be taking steps backwards in the realm of game development, creativity, customer support, and game code integrity, customers are getting extremely skittish about throwing their hard earned money at games that don't show support above and beyond the trash gamers have been subjected to by larger companies. Long story short, I believe that the standard response of your hands being tied is making people think that the standalone will be a slightly more polished version of what we have already, and only that. It appears that the biggest priorities for the community is scripting and game breaking bugs (tent/vehicle saving, artifacting, humanity glitches causing skin changes in the middle of a firefight, etc.). These are also the two issues that the devs have dropped the ball on the hardest, with hackers being apparently impossible to minimize, and patches designed to fix bugs that ultimately make them worse. When I got the news that DayZ was going standalone, the first thing I wanted to know was where could I preorder it, but with the way things have been handled as I stated above, I'm going to give the game a long time to be property reviewed by the community before I make the decision to purchase. I'm terrified that this is going to be another Diablo 3. I recognize that this post would be pointless without suggestions on how to fix it, so here we go. 1) Make a sticky post in general discussion for people to bitch about hacking. I recognize this can be a bad business idea, because new players doing research on the game will be immediately greeted with a "we have a hacking problem" billboard, but it's still far better than telling a complaining customer that you can't do anything about it. You can still lock random QQ threads, but your customers will appreciate a link to the appropriate are to post as opposed to telling them to learn how to use the search function and leaving them to their own devices. 2) Take the leash off the server admins and let them do their jobs. They are literally the only thing standing between the legitimate players and scripters, especially when our anti-cheat system feels like armor made out of wet toilet paper. The basis of proof for a Rocket sanctioned ban is rediculous and unwarranted in a game so plagued with cheaters. 3) Encourage private hives. These are the last servers left that have any reasonable control over their servers and what goes down on them. Private hives can utilize more extensive anti-cheat measures and deal with hacking nearly immediately. It seems like a lot of private hives are run by clans as well, and the general in game community problems are much less sporadic. 4) Shut down the public hive, thus forcing players to private hives until the standalone. It ties into #3, and it also eliminates the threat of ghosting, server hopping snipers, server hopping loot/vehicle campers, and gearing up on a totally empty server just to switch to a high pop server with gear you wouldn't have been able to get nearly as easily with other players in the server. This also means that servers that have inactive admin will be plagued with scripted items, but servers that are run by decent admin won't have to worry about someone going on X unmonitored server to spawn all their shit in, and then switch to the monitored server. If you can't move character saves between servers, the hackers on server X won't affect the gameplay of people on server Y, meaning that a handful of hackers can't ruin every server on the queue list at their leisure. 5) If you are going to focus on the standalone, consider shutting down DayZ support all together. This is an alpha, and while you guys use it for game testing, the community uses it to get a good idea of what they are about to spend money on. If you quietly abandon the mod, players are going to get a horrible experience while testing and never consider buying the game (Battlefield 3 anyone?). Don't cut your nose off to spite your face. All of these solutions are far better than any efforts I've seen so far on the dev teams part, but don't take that as me suggesting that you guys aren't concerned. I want to see DayZ succeed, but there is some sort of collapse going on right now. The rewards for cheating right now greatly outnumber the risks, and when the community's complaints are met with a shrug of the shoulders, we either give in and start scripting, or lose faith in your ability to control your game, and just move on to something else. You guys develop PC games, and coming from a guy who starting gaming long before consoles even imagine being connected to the internet, that's a big deal. For that very reason, I have much higher expectations from you than the crooks over at Activision/EA/etc, and I always will for developers that focus on the PC platform. Rethink your approach to dealing with the community to better inspire hope for an awesome standalone, as opposed to making us think that you guys don't care, don't know what you're doing, or have better things to do. Please take my suggestions into consideration, and thank you for your time. RaysGoodLiquor TL;DR: just respond with TL;DR and move on. Edit: It's 3am here and I don't have any juice left to fix my grammatical/spelling errors. If you can't read it, let me know and I'll revise it tomorrow.
