No... The best would be to not let admins disable the cycle at all, and then adjust the cycle to fit locally +/- a few hours at admins' discretion, letting everyone play on equal terms. E-V-E-R-Y-O-N-E... That way, you'd see day/evening in your own respective prime time, AND you'd encourage people to play in their own respective time zones, which would get rid of the growing segment of risk averse t*rds who deliberately play on high ping servers to give them an extra seconds' time to pull the plug if someone in their immediate vicinity as much as sneezes. As for the whole thing with unemployment/lifers/no-lifers, please explain to me why ANYONE's itinerary should affect game development. The game has night time in it, because people are MEANT to deal with it. If you can't or if you just want insta action, go play something that will offer you that. If you don't have time to play the game, the way its intended, don't play it. You don't see me picking up chess and whinging at my opponent winning by default, when I suddenly get up and leave to go have dinner or drag my ass to school, do you? It may be harsh - but that's what (was) great about Day Z. Circumstances out of your control that has to be dealt with - be it harsh weather, darkness, light, disease, fatigue, bandits or zombies. Instead, we're gonna get (yet another) hellhole of everyone running custom servers with CLEARSKIES/CLEARDAYZ/OMGDAYLIGHT/SPAWN-WITH-DMR-UNL-AMMO/+Selfbloodbag/GODMODE/2K+ VEHICLES settings. To be honest, I'm surprised noone has thought of removing the zombies entirely from their servers either - but then again, it's hard to be badass just playing playing Farmville...

disheartened and disappointed someone explain ? D:
simontookie replied to kstrife's topic in General Discussion
It is obvious to me that you shouldn't have purchased this Alpha, you have not read any part of the forums at all, so let me highlight what has been said and why ignorant people like you will bring this community down before it begins: 1. Rocket said dont buy the game (yet) 2. A forum post by a staff member highlighted that, there is low zombie spawns and loot spawns, that zombies no clip, that zombies hit through floors, that there aren't vehicles yet, that some items wont work, that some features wont work. 3. It's a PRE Alpha, that's not even an Alpha. If you ask me the game was pushed out because the community wanted it to be, now people like you are putting pointless forum posts like this. This is not WarZ so don't mention it. Moving forward from your experience: Read the forum posts by the staff before purchasing or playing this game. Understand what a pre Alpha is, an Alpha and what a Beta and finally a full released game. Once you understand these things, THEN and ONLY THEN should you even think about playing this game, till then.. Shelf it. -

No vehicles, minimal/random/unbalanced loot, low players per server.. hunger/thirst, dodgy game mechanics.. poor performance.. pretty much all the things disappointing you so far is due to the game being in Alpha. A severely unfinished, buggy game being actively developed and were invited along for the ride. You appear to have fallen into the Alpha trap. Hype most likely got the better of you, as it almost did myself. I took the choice to wait a few more months and just keep eye on progress through watching vids and streams, yep its boring and man I really want to play! but like you I want to spare myself any disappointment, so will wait a little while to see how things pan out :) -
(SA) Remove military loot from the coast
doublebrain replied to Nyz01's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I just wanted to suggest exactly the same thing... I will just post my opinion to this topic here, ofc dont want to create a new thread: Nerf Balota hard -> Balota has 3 military buildings, 2 hangars, 3 barracks and a whole military camp... and its on the coast... and its even a spawn for new players... Its just overpowerd because newly spawned players can gear up so fast. Ive seen videos where ppl are fully equipped with totaly modded M4, military clothes backpack and vest, big backpack, food and drinks... and they got all that stuff from looting balota like 2 or 3 times. If this is possible on the coast, who would go to the north then?? Distribute loot better -> I think at the coast there should be almost no military loot but a good amount of melee and some civilian shooting weapons and also about the amount of food and drinks the newly spawned players need to survive. If you go further north there should be more and better military and maybe even civilian loot (when vehicles are in for example a much higher chance for car-repair stuff) but less food and drinks. All this should in-/decrease more when you go further north so you have to get your stuff not only from looting but also from what nature gives you. Summary: Coast only simple loot (because big civilian cities), further north less civilian (mostly small villages) but more and better military (military bases, airstrips) Beans for thread! :beans: -
Third person view removal from SA discussion
Strategos (DayZ) replied to lev's topic in General Discussion
No it really shouldn't. If you have it as an option, all the servers turn it on and you get the same problem we had in the mod. Server owners want players so they have to make things as easy as possible to get more people in. And you end up with 3rd person, 24/7 daylight 10,000 vehicles. It needs to just be off. -
Third person would be completely fine for vehicles only. It's unlikely someone will get in a vehicle then move said vehicle behind cover just to peek over corners. For infantry however REMOVE it.
-
Before removing third person they need to polish first person mode a bit. Im waiting until vehicles are added, in the mod when riding a bike for example, your view in first person bounced up and down like crazy due the stiffness of the character. If they fix details like this first person will be a more enjoyable experience overall.
-
Your an idiot..... All it would do is make a whole lot of people stop playing..... And a whole lot of potential buyers put their wallets back in their pockets..... Control it on at the server level... Separate Hives ( if your that bloody sooky about it ) and be done with it.... So bloody tired of these same old pointless around-in-circles conversations.... same thing with KoS, same thing with the .50's, the vehicles and loot tables.... Stop trying to FORCE your style of play onto everyone else.....

How come a lot of people have working M4/Mosin's?
FroztyReaper replied to andrestor's topic in General Discussion
Only found 1 mosin since release. Though will start going thru vehicles. Not found a weapon yet that isnt working, amazed that people have such problems (feeling lucky). Any hints on the long range scope? -
There was actually some interesting mod work done recently regarding line of sight and third person. Here it is: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=23768 Personally though I think the mod is more trouble than its worth mostly due to the fact that it is hard to handle cases like interaction with objects and what type of objects should show up and which shouldn't when LoS is broken (the creator did some interesting things with vehicles that I don't necessarily agree with).

KOS isn't something we can erase. More loot: Just the more reason to kill you, I want the shit you have Vehicles: If i have one you bet your ass I'm going to defend it If i don't have one ill gun that guy that has one one More zombies: Find something more irrelevant. Zombies never have and never will be a threat, just dance around them and thats it Damaged gear: I have all the gear i would want, the reason I'm killing you is because I have nothing to do with that gear. Remember there is 2 things to do in dayz 1) get loot 2) kill people Once I have loot what do you want me to do with it? pve is just a pathetic idea

I know a lot of people have raised the point that Dayz lacks an "endgame", something to keep you busy once you're fully gearead and loaded with supplies. Which when people get, they generally turn sniping and general banditry. I think a cool idea for at least giving players another option would be crafting/repairing machines/vehicles that would require a large time input, extreme scavenging and a communal effort. I know this is likely kinda of tough considering i'm sure the standalone wants to be moving further away from the military vibe of Arma. But I think some sort of APC that would take a massive time investment to get repaired would be great, maybe a mounted .50 cal turret on it. Something that looks welded together and stitched from parts of other vehicles. I know a lot of people will hate this sort of idea, but my main point is that their should be other options from groups after gearing up, other then murdering and sniping. It would make the game more enjoyable for vets and might save the skin of a few bambi's if less bandits are sniping the coast and hiding in barracks. :p

First Time Feedback and Suggestions/Ideas for the Future of the SA
ZeGentleman posted a topic in New Player Discussion
*DISCLAIMER* I am 100% aware of the alpha status of the game, I have only played the SA and am sure much of this will already be in the works, thank you! Initial Reaction and Feedback: Yesterday was my first experience in DayZ (SA or Mod). I had a few heart-pounding moments, few frustrating moments, had my life taken numerous times, and took a few myself. Player interaction seems to be well involved and often at times escalating very quickly into some intense moments, which I didn't mind in the slightest. Playing in first-person I truly felt immersed in the extreme survival experience and I have to say my time in game was genuinely enjoyable. Now, with that said I'd like to go into a little more detail with some feedback/suggestions for future implementation. I will start by giving a brief list of things in DayZ that are game breaking. Game Breaking: -Server Hopping (This is an easy fix I'm sure, but is the biggest issue I have with the game.) -Night Time (Night can be completely avoided by simply sliding gamma and brightness all the way up, making the game a black and white day time just about.) -Fall Damage (Much too dramatic, 3 feet should not break my legs) -Most Melee vs Zombies (Im not asking for a one hit kill with every melee weapon, but I feel I should be able to stab a Zed in the head with a kitchen knife at the very least...oh and if I'm empty handed, when a Zed gets knocked to the ground I should be able to stomp its head in) -Zombie Audio (This is a big immersion factor, I should't hear Zed audio from a rabbit or trash can.) Ok, lets delve a little deeper into the game with systems, mechanics, and UI... HUD/UI: -HUD(The minimalist HUD is definitely a keeper, what needs to be added are more audio and visual references to players status. The fading of color and blurred vision are a start, but can be improved by leaps and bounds.) -User Interface(I'm sure is a place-holder, inventory system could use some work but more on that later.) Systems/Mechanics: -Item Degradation(A must have in any realistic survival game, but I have issues with the current implementation which ties into the inventory system and the hitbox mechanics they use.) Items should decay over time and use, but never perma-break Not every item on a piece of gear should be destroyed if said gear takes damage in a finite area (Example: If a player is shot in the shoulder and dies only the items in the pockets around that area should be affected.) Must be a way to repair gear with loot-able materials and/or clean firearms with loot-able gun cleaning kits. The visual degradation of the items are awesome and needs to be expanded on. -Inventory Systems(A great start to say the least, needs work and I have a few idea that could make the realism stand out a bit more) To tie into the item degradation, each piece of gear should have left, right, and back pockets, with each having a corresponding hit box. Also, to elaborate a bit, if the gear is pants for example, the back pockets should only be able to fit items that could normally be stored in pant back pockets. I should not be able to carry a mosin in my pocket. Encumbrance, which calls for items to have weight associated with them. "Hands", an inventory feature that could be extremely useful for "end-game"(lack of a better word) content. I believe it would be beneficial to seperate the "hands" and make a "left-hand" and "right-hand" slot. This way Devs could add carry-able bags, such as sports bags or suitcases. (Imagine running to a town with two 50 pocket duffle bags, packing them full of supplies and sprinting back to camp as fast as possible, all the while you cant defend yourself unless you drop your loot and pull out a weapon.) To elaborate on the Handgun "chest holster", possible multi-gun holsters, back holster, waist holster, or even an ankle holster. -Movement Mechanics/Animations(Basic movement; W,A,S,D, crouch/prone, sprinting, and evasive maneuvering all seem pretty on key and responsive. Along with the added Head movement mechanic. Climbing and the vault/jump mechanic not so much, I will just assume they are place-holders.) I hope to see the vault/jump mechanic have many added features such as grabbing the edge of boxes/walls/fences, maybe a vault over cars while sprinting. Im sure animations will be touched up later down the line. Broken legs should be noticeable to the player which leg is injured via animations (while in crawling animation: Right leg not moving but left is = Broken right leg, opposite with the left, and no legs moving means you have broken both legs.) Climbing in general needs much work, I personally have fallen to my death 3 times in my short 10 hours logged because of poor climbing mechanics. Maybe evasive maneuvering could perform a roll while sprinting, unless of course that mechanic is already in the game somewhere else, I am still a rookie. -Player Interaction(Hands down, is my favorite part of this game. This game is revolutionizing the survival genre with its potential to completely obliterate the KoS mentality. Yes, it may be far off still from the alpha, but with what I've witnessed so far in game and then the videos I had to watch immediately after, I have hope...and ideas!) Being able to locally talk is a key feature in many survival games, but what if we could get whistles, horns, firecrackers, or other noise making items for player, and in some cases zombie, interaction. The ability to bind other players is pure awesomeness. What makes this mechanic so good though is that if you're bound you can struggle your way free if left alone too long. Which then makes me to think, "Hey, I have rope, why can't I bind people with this." Just makes sense to me. Hopefully, for the games sake, the Devs can implement a hot key voice over for those few players that have no mics. This way if they are a slow typer people wont bloody their face after a 3 seconds silence. I believe some system needs to be in place for bartering, more than, you throw your shit I'll throw mine while our buddies watch our backs. Tracking would be something that would bring so much immersion into player interaction and later down the line hunting when it gets implemented. Simply, if you are walking on a surface other then asphalt or concrete, you leave a trail of subtle footprints that vanish after while. Or if you are bleeding and don't tend to it you leave trails of blood behind. I could probably continue to ramble on about whats good, what needs work, and ideas/suggestions for pages, but I'll save you guys the eye strain and just conclude with a list of ideas for future implementation. Future Implementation Suggestions: -Beard growing/shaving mechanic(Give players the ability to grow their beards out the longer they survive, but also for players that want that clean cut look they can find a "razor" as loot to shave.) -Spray Paint/Graffiti(Being able to find cans of spray paint to either paint weapons and equipment or since this world is lawless tag up some walls with graffiti. Also, the idea of marking trees to find your way back to your forest camp came to mind.) -Transportation(I know that vehicles are coming and horses have been mentioned multiple times, but how about some alternatives such as; road bicycle, mountain bicycle, skateboard, mountain board, scooter.) -Farming(I'm sure this in coming anyways, but I thought I would mention it for discussion purposes and to use as a segue to my next idea.) -Mind/Body Altering Substances(The truth of the matter is, when the world has gone to shit and there really isnt much going on, you're going crazy of the same thing day to day, you and some buddies might want to sit by the camp fire and "unwind" as your moms might call it. Maybe, get cross-faded as hell and run into masses of Zeds swinging your fire axe like a mad man. Or grow it just for something to barter if seeds are that scarce. Regardless of what you do with the stuff, Its safe to say it can go a long way in this game...here's a quick list.) Alcohol- Blurred vision, loss of accuracy, increased energy/stamina, thin blood, etc. Marijuana- Increased accuracy, loss of energy/stamina, decreased mouse sensitivity for a slow-like effect. etc. Opiates- Loss of energy/stamina, possible loss of consciousness, etc. Cocaine- Short burst of increased energy, etc. Mushrooms- You can find all kinds of mushrooms across the map, some are poison, some psychedelic, and some edible. Players have to find "spore testing" loot item to identify them. LSD/Acid- Possibly be made in game, the effects of these and the shrooms would be pretty intense I would assume. Amphetamines- Can't sleep? Never tired or hungry? Much higher chance of sickness. -Identification(I read a post where someone suggested ID cards on survivors where you could collect them from players you kill or to just identify a corpse. I would like to expand upon it a little. First, if we were to get ID cards, they should be defaulted into one of the small pockets as I suggested above in the 1st bullet point under inventory systems. Next, if you are a bandit and/or a collector you have the option to loot some items (string and a hole punch) to store the ID cards free of inventory.... or slightly more elaborate, Dog-tags. A player could find a ball-bearing chain, metal scrap, engraver, and battery to "craft" Dog-tags. Other players that already have Dog-tags or ball-bearing chain can then collect tags and add to the chain.) I apologize for such a long drawn out post, I hope the structuring helped a little for those that read it, thanks, can't wait for the future of the DayZ SA. EDIT: Forgot one of the ideas I had. I've noticed many books throughout my wandering, what came to mind is to have small tutorial guides for players as some of the loot-able reading material (survival tactics, farming guide, "crafting" guide, and miscellaneous tips.) -
DayZ Standalone Review - Is it worth getting?
carbine781 (DayZ) posted a topic in New Player Discussion
This review is pretty long. If you want a quick summary, Scroll down and just read the Pros/Cons section. You can also read my rating if you like. I've been a fan of the DayZ mod since the Summer of 2012, when I began playing. The reason I really wanted to get it was because I watched a video of 3 of my friends running away from 20 zombies while they were heading to Stary Sobor. From there on, i went through all the trouble of trying to put a windows partition onto my mac (yes i have a mac. Please don't give me crap for it, and I know i am going to regret saying that I have a mac because you probably stopped reading and are making a comment now...) and I eventually got the game. Finally, the DayZ Standalone has come out, and I bought it the day it came out. I am going to tell you my personal thoughts of it and wether it is worth buying or not. Note: This review is based on my personal experience with the game. Also, the review is based on the stage the alpha was in when i wrote this (less then 48 hours after release). I know the game is a pre-alpha and that the game has many bugs in it (Rocket even warned us), i'm just reviewing the game in it's current state to let you know if it is worth getting now, etc. Concept: Incase you didn't already know, DayZ is a game about survival. Set in a 230 sq km world (thats actually quite big), you must explore the world, find resources, and survive the harsh zombie apocalypse. You must go into dangerous towns, and find supplies. If you meet somebody along the way, you can team up with them or betray them (or both). Basically, this game is your own story that you can create. It's all unscripted. You make all of the decisions (that is unless you were kidnapped ingame. Then, you are probably screwed). Performance/Optimization: Performance wise, I was actually disappointed. It didn't seem that much different from the actual mod. I was a bit disappointed when i was getting 15 fps in some cities (specifically, Chernogorsk and the 2 cities north of Chernogorsk). My laptop specs aren't very good (Nvidia Geforce GT 650M Graphics card and an intel Hd 4000 Graphics Card, Intel Core i7-3615QM CPU, 2.30 GHz processor), but they were able to run Arma 2 Operation arrowhead in single player (and on domination/Takistan Life Revolution servers) on High/Very High settings with a solid 30 frame rate. On DayZ servers, I would have to lower my settings down a lot, and still, my framerate would often drop below 30. I really hope that the game is optimized a lot more. Thankfully, it is just a pre-alpha, so we have time. I just hope that the DayZ team are working on optimizing the game. GamePlay: Animations feel a lot smoother. It is a lot easier to control your player. Not only is it easy to move around, but you can now jump while running, change weapons while running, and more. The team also added new animations for eating, bandaging, etc. The map of DayZ is gorgeous. Not only does it look great on good visual settings, the specs of the map are impressive. It is 230 sq km big, and 95% of the buildings are enterable. A big problem with the DayZ mod was that everybody would attack you on sight. I have not encountered this in DayZ standalone. Infact, before i wrote this review, i teamed up with 3 people I met in a town north of Cherno. Note: That doens't mean there aren't bandits (this one guy, who i was met and was playing with for about 20 minutes, hit me in the face with a shovel when I told him i was about to die of blood loss). Additionally, since DayZ standalone just came out, I am not sure if this friendliness aspect will stay much longer. Once people get comfortable with the game, and if it becomes too easy to survive by yourself, people will grow less friendly. This is what happened in the mod; it was confusing at first, but then, people realized how easy it was to surive. The new inventory system is very easy to use. It has been transformed into an easy drag and drop system. However, it can be a bit confusing at first. Basic things, such as turning on your flashlight, took some people some time to learn. Also, there were a couple of glitches I encountered where i accidentally somehow made one of my items vanish. Also, switching items was hard to do, and seemed confusing. Gameplay wise, the 4 biggest problems I had (besides some fps issues) were: Almost no loot found, zombies act weird, the melee system is very bad, I was constantly in need for water and food (and this problem is even bigger when I couldn't find any loot). Zombies no longer zig zag as much, but thats about it. They can hit and move through walls, and they aren't very threatening. Then they get to you, they stop, and then 1 second later, claw at you. Then they stop, maybe look around for a couple seconds, and claw at you once more. There also seems to be a lack of zombies in cities. As for the melee system, it does not work at all. It was very hard to hit even a stationary zombie. I would also find myself hitting objects (or other people accidentally) right next to me when I swung. In some cases, I could've sworn i hit somebody behind me. If the melee system acted more like that of Left 4 Dead 2, it would become an extremely affective way of survival. As for lack of loot, thats pretty self explanitory. Remember that group of me and 3 other guys i was talking about? we were looting every single house in a town, and we couldn't find any food or water. Besides these for main problems in the game currently, I found that it was also hard to pick up some loot, and it was hard to get in range of something to complete an action (ex: if i go near a ladder, i will have to position myself a few times until i see the icon that says I can go up the ladder). Also, an old glitch where you can warp through a wall in the firestation tower by jumping onto the ladder on the other side is still there. Pros: Amazing open world Friendly people (as of now) New items such as clothes Zombies don't zigzag anymore New animations New Inventory system Many fun moments with random survivors you meet in the game. Many more features to come ( I didn't mention this, but they are adding more animals to hunt, vehicles, more items and weapons, basebuilding, etc. Lots to look forward to) Cons: Big FPS drops in big cities Although they no longer zigzag, zombies are almost not a threat and they are glitchy. Lack of zombies. Melee weapons are buggy and don't work well. Lack of loot. Inventory system is a bit buggy. Fast starvation and dehydration. Firestation ladder glitch. To quickly sum it up: The game has a lot of potential. The map is great, and it is a great experience when you meet people and you go on an adventure with them. The game has many new items to find. Optimization isn't very good in big cities, and while there is a lack of zombies, glitchy zombies, barely any loot, some bugs, and a bad melee system, those can be fixed with some work. My biggest concern is optimization. I really hope they find some bugs that when fixed, will give fps boosts. With many good features to come, the game has some serious potential. I am looking forward to seeing how it evolves. Ratings (as of the game's current state): For a new unexperienced player: 3.5/10 - I do not recommend that you buy now. Get something else for Christmas. For somebody who enjoyed playing the mod, but didn't play often: 5.5/10 - It depends on how much you want to play the game. It may be worth getting now to save the money. For a fan who has played the mod for a long time and loves DayZ: 7/10 - If you have been waiting for what seems like forever for this game to come out, then I would get it. Just remember that it is an alpha and that it won't be the great zombie survival game just yet. Please give me some beans if you enjoyed the review :) -
Ok i think i get it when u say that the map is fine, my problem with it is i feel like every1 just play around the coast, and the airport near bolota... i feel theres no point in going anywhere else because i will feel alone just walking around since towns all look the same, and once u loot an airport, i go past towns with no need at all to search for stuff.. also they nothing xD Maybe with 100/100 server and vehicles the map size will feel alot better, yet i wish for some diversity on town looks. I once wasted 1hour on a big city to find almost nothing, when i can just go to the same airport as always and find everything i need

I'd like to see lots of civilian ground vehicles and unarmed/unarmored military vehicles as long as passengers can shoot out of all vehicles with our handheld personal weapons. Vehicle mounted machineguns on jeeps, pickups (technicals) should require crafting like: pedestal+mount+ammo can+beltfed mg+ wrench+vechicle= vechicle mounted weapon.

dayz vet eh? prepare for a little disapointment with the lack of vehicles and tents that will hopefully be released soon

Cabinets and refrigerators in houses and vehicles? Will sys req change?
Aussie Bogan replied to mjf6866's topic in New Player Discussion
Can you open the cabinets or fridges in houses? Answer: As far as i know you cannot open or access them, even though it makes complete sense. This may be added later in the game. Will cars and trucks or any other vehicles be added to the final game? Answer: Yea defiantly, even planes helicopters etc Is there any other features that are not in the alpha that will be there later? Answer: There are countless features yet to be added to this game, they just need time to focus on the hacking problems first, combat logging and so on. Things that may be added: Ability to build your own base etc anyone else please feel free to add. (Massive list) Will the system requirements change down the road when other things get implemented? Answer: From a logical point of view, when they add more things to the game it will require more Pc power however given enough time they can optimize certain setting etc and make the game run better than at alpha. -
I Fucking hope not that they will add military vehicles with machine guns etc, just cars like buggy ones and off roads/regular one, and not alot. vehicles should be rare as fuck and be a key part.

Let's keep the discussion about pro's and con's of 24hr cycles to the whine threads, shall we? All I'm interested is server names and IP's. 98% of the servers seem to have gone the way of 24 hr daylight and I'm sure yours will be fine if you do the same. I'll at least have a month or two of proper challenging gameplay until the standalone turns into the same daylight/clear skies/2000+ vehicles DMR/McGhillie snipefest that the mod turned into...

So if you are looking for a fun group to co-op through the world of Chernarus, drive vehicles with in Battlefield or killstreaks/pointstreaks in Call Of Duty, come visit our friendly forums at http://locg.enjin.com and see what we are all about. :)

Say you, when you die, lose not only the gear on you but all stashed items in the future bases/tents/vehicles/etc. I think it makes sense as well since the "new you" have no idea where the stuff of your dead character is anyway. In this way we get around the whole "perks/skills"-system that some of you feel reluctant to implement.
