Well, Looks like there is a Party in here! ;D A lot of Good Comments (both for and against Dayz), but I also Wish some were more Balanced and non Attack/defensive (and a few funny troll comments would hit the spot ) Development is Slow, but its progressing, I love the map work that has been put into it recently, I was Very Worried in Closed alpha when you had 10 x2 lines of Wrecks on the airfields, the floating castles, Or the creation of what appears to be my grandma that was created when you hopped in vehicles before they were removed However, those issues along with countless others were fixed, I remember them being adressed not long after the mantis dev tracker was setup. it was a nightmare when it was first publicly released, mainly because they all needed to have a little break after working for just over a year straight, leaving poor Hicks to man the fort. There were a few things that might have been overly ambitious, that could have been changed to make the game more smooth, such as having zombies Client side using R4Z0R's Edited code, and then implementing them server side when they were ready. For ironing out bugs, its a Two pronged problem, For issues to be fixed, there needs to be testing done to experiment with different ways of fixing the issue, and then time to fix the issues created with that fix, which would lead to some people doing things such as Stupid hats and that leads to the issue of Creating Shiny things, instead of fixing the game, of course people such as Modelers and textures have nothing else they can do apart from making things however. I feel the biggest problem people have, is the comparison between the mod and SA, although things need to be taken into consideration The mod was a mod of a fully (but Buggy) game and pushed the engine abilities to its extreme The mod has everything SA should have and more The Mod is still the place to go to for The old Dayz Feels that everyone had back when vanilla was popular (although I now filll that gaping hole with Breaking point) I remember the mods development from when I started playing in July 2012, it was really bad at first, but it was the potential that was there, the interaction with other players, nothing can beat the early feels that were had. And its the frustration when comparing the mod to the dreams everyone had for SA which caused peoples issues. But once again "alphaaaaaaa" I remember the Hour long Debate and Discussion that the Rocket, BI Dev's and testers had for the games release on skype, However despite most saying that it wasn't ready, the game needed to be released due to various reasons, ideally yes the game should have come out around this time, but unfortunately we do not live in an ideal world Ending my wall of text (It feels weird when it's not a Troll post :( ) There is a lot of frustration on the game (even more so with the new buggy update) There is no real Purpose to the game currently, its basically a forced PvP game (from how I view it), since there isn't much else to do currently due to the lack of objects that players can place, (such as tents or cars) and the only PvE thing that's possible is to Wack a few zombies over the head, until the nasty floor zombie midgets get you, or go hunting for some meat to burn in the fire And the forced PvP combined with the terrible ballistics and guns that are even more clunky than the mod make it undesirable to do Granted I don't care much for PvE, I would much rather listen to someone cry because I shot them while they were adding "phat lootz" to their tents and then using an Axe to destroy said tents, or take everything and full it with empty tin cans. SA will become the game we want to play like how the mod used to be but it is not this day..

    Vehicle Ideas of DayZ Standalone

    The only armed "military" vehicles that I'd like to see implemented should be unarmed to start. In other words, you have to go out and find that M2HB for your HMMWV. You've got to go out and find that .50 BMG ammo, box, and links. Same goes for door-mounted machine guns for helicopters, which I believe should be the limit of weaponry for aircraft.

    Well I mean, obviously there should only be a few helicopters around. Making vehicles "rare" is different in the sense that you don't have to search as hard to find them versus regular loot. What should be done is making all of the necessary parts rare, making helicopter maintenance and fueling difficult, and finally making piloting the helicopter or utilizing many of its features difficult (as in Take On Helicopters, which the DayZ engine is mainly built on) I personally wouldn't be opposed to a few large transport helicopters like an Mi-17 or Mi-8, or maybe an S-64 Skycrane for lifting, as the game's top tier helicopter aircraft (I'm not particularly fond of having gunships or attack helicopters, though), but requiring more maintenance. Otherwise, a few small helicopters that could be armed with GPMGs (like the PKM, M249, or M240) would be fine, as long as proper shooting mechanics were induced. I mean, people are quick to jump on the; "armed vehicles ruin the game!" train because the mod's vehicles that were armed were built for military combat rather than difficult survival, but if they were properly introduced then actually getting in a Huey and flying down the coast unloading on freshspawns would not be a simple task (nor efficient one). That being said, it could be a great advantage to those who were willing to put time in maintaining and learning their tools. Anyway, by "piper aircraft" I was implying small planes, like Cessnas. We weren't debating over helicopters.

    I want a METRIC SHIT TON of vehicles. Along the roads, piled up at road blocks, checkpoints... BUT I want only a few to run, like about the number in Vanilla DayZ. Others, I want to be in shitty condition, so it would take a ton of time to repair them, like Vanilla DayZ. And a few scrap metal cars. I would also like to sit in those rusty vans. Imagine finding one 200 meters off a dirt road, lighting a fire at the door, listening to the world...

I think they should add in the PTRD, it lacks any mounts for a scope so any sniper would need to use the iron sights,its singel shot,You need to be prone or have it braced on something to fire one in rl,Ammo is heavy and should be somewhat rare,A good weapon for knocking out vehicles and even light armor (if they add a brdm to the game or if the humvee is bullet proof it would make a good counter )Might be usefull as an anti sniper weapon with some practice as 14.5mm rounds have a fairly flat trajectory and a sniper isnt moving around much.
  10. It's very possible. In the mod your tent was never even close to safe even if you pitched it in the middle of nowhere inside a tree. Considering they're huge and you can't put them exactly where you want, you'll be able to spot these tents from such distance that they'll be useless even before vehicles and choppers are implemented.

    as this lad over here has said, i agree with him that only a couple of vehicles should be added to the game. this is because its ment to be a zombie game and vehicles should be rare. if we have all the vehicles the poster of this topic has said, it would be more like a racing game because you could pick the cars that you want because there would be so many, you are ment to get happy when you see any working vehicle and look after it and if there were that many, people wouldnt look after the vehicles

  14. Server switch GameSpy on Steam. Now to play on our server requires steam version of the game - beta 125548. Therefore all players with CD copy of Arma must activate their keys through Steam: Install Arma 2: Operation Arrowhed + addons (optional, for hires textures) as above. After that: - Find Arma 2: DayZ Mod in store and install,- Right click on Arma 2: Operation Arrowhed in game list ---> Properties ---> Beta versions ---> expand the list and select beta -,- Wait until Steam download patch and if all done right it will appear signature [beta] in the game tile,- Run Arma 2: DayZ Mod, in a pop-up window select Play ArmA 2: DayZ Mod. Unfortunately characters of "CD players" disappear, since the server now works with SteamID. So do not be surprised by appearing on beach. Tents/caches and vehicles are intact.

    There should of course be military aircraft It would only make sense, no? BUT They should have NO ammo. They should have the pods, and the guns, but ZERO of the actual rockets fired from such places. AT MOST rare small stashes, maybe in counts of 10, of 12.7 mm, for DSHKS. BUT THAT IS IT. This allows for there to be a realistic level of vehicles, but they just wont be terribly useful other than for transport and a mock intimidation. Like giving a musket rails and synthetic furniture. Looks scary, but its not really dangerous at all (LOOKIN AT YOU CNN)

    I'm not against having a tank or an armoured helicopter, or something a bit overpowered, but the ammount of effort needet to get one up and running would have to be overpowered too, meaning that you would need like an entire squad to get a tank working, or a armoured helicopter, but it would need tons of fuel... like for the tank / armoured vehicle 1 KM 2 Jerry Cans (called JCs for the ease of writing) and the fuel tank of 3 JC (so you will need to get a grab on some JCs before trying to use it to travel) and for the armoured helicopter should be like 4 JCs/KM, fuel tank of 12 JCs for the small one (for four people) and 6 JCs/KM, fuel tank of 16 JCs for the big one (12 people)... and the armoured vehicles / tank should be verry slow, too... I think, this way it would not be so overpowered, as it would require a lot of work to get one working... and definetly not for "normal" transport purposes... more like for going throughout the middle of the hell (AKA on top of Cherno with 20+ people shooting at you)
  17. Quit relying on launchers to hold your hand then! It's SOOOO damn easy to install the game via Steam and manually connect to servers. People are making this so much more difficult than it is. Install via Steam, look for a good server at https://www.gametracker.com/search/dayzmod/ by sorting and filtering with terms for what you like (ie vanilla or epoch or 1,000 vehicles etc etc), and copy/paste the IP into the "REMOTE" window in DayZ's multiplayer menu. It's incredibly simple. People are making this a much bigger problem than it is by refusing to cut the umbilical chord with launchers/installers/browsers. They were nice to have when manually installing DayZ was a challenge, but now it's as simple as clicking "install/update" in Steam. Having a good server browser would be great but don't rely on them if they're broken.

    Strength System

    I was thinking to myself, what DayZ would be like if we had some sort of in game strength system which would add more of a knockout chance depending on the strength percentage, the strength wouldn't be easy to get and you'd most likely be killed before you got it but it would take days to build up muscle from constant running (Which if you start now, you'd be like Arnold Schwarzenegger by the time vehicles are in!) And also eating foods that are high in protein, carbs, and possibly add shakes or food supplement tablets (maybe the vitamin bottle would have a use then), the muscle would slowly build up until you have a message saying "I feel exausted" or "I feel tired" and then a small message by the hunger/hydration/stuffed tab could appear saying "mildly buff" or something. Then if you are to continue the balanced diet and constant exercise, your fighting skills eventually benefit from this adding stronger hits to the head to combat the overpowered hits off a bambi, usually making you win the fight (unless that's one strong bambi), Muscle will eventually be lost the moment you start consuming crap like and a non balanced diet, also drinks high in sugars, Just a suggestion though, what do you guys think?

I've seen a few arguments about adding things to the game and getting those ideas shot down with "the average person wouldn't know how to do X" (where X could be making radios out of coconuts for instance) Then the riposte of "If you survived the outbreak then surely you're already smarter than the average bear." This got me thinking about the fact you MAY NOT even be a survivor! Lets review the evidence. You awaken with out a clue carrying only a flashlight - this seems an unlikely scenario for your average outbreak survivor. Your ethnicity is questionable - how many of the playable chars look like they're residents of Chenarus? There are certain buildings and locations you cannot get into - whats hidden in those buildings? Banditry seems to be the most common playstyle, people kill each other without a second thought. This all got me thinking down the roads that I've been drugged, and dropped off on the shores of some shitty quarantine zone, stripped of everything and given a new shiny flashlight. Roofied and left to survive for someones twisted amusement. Those buildings i cant get into? i bet they're housing servers and telecom gear, fed from remote cameras dotted around Chenarus. Feeding into the central hub located at Green Mountain as a way of transmitting outside the zone, which is why the place is so freaky. Perhaps I'm some kind of Criminal! Maybe i was a murderer and got shipped over here as some kind of newfangled justice, which is why banditry comes so easily. Maybe i said the wrong thing publicly about my Government, took a hero's stand against my corporate empire, got doped up and shipped out to experience a scenario where there is NO government, i tried to be a hero in real life and this was my reward from the powers that be. Maybe I'm not just paranoid in thinking I'm always being watched, because I've always got a camera pointed squarely at me, modern society watching me, positively ravenous at the thought of me receiving some entertaining justice. Head north or east enough and things come to an abrupt alt, you get to see the exclusion zone, where society retreated and demolished everything between us and them, just far enough that you'll die of dehydration or run out of fuel long before you ever see the walls around us :p I can see a modern distopia all betting on how long i'll survive, talking about my shitty day around the water cooler in their offices all around the globe, phones going nuts the moment i break a leg and need to crawl around gathering sticks for a splint. This is why i hear cans opening, and zombies moaning where there are none, it to get me shifting along, frighten me into action and prevent the audience back home getting bored with me just sitting around drinking a canteen. Its why there are no vehicles yet (the exclusion zone is still being widened to prevent future escape) Those other people you see glitching out? thats just a side effect of the neurotoxin that you received after your trial. Died inexplicably on a stairwell or in a room that was otherwise safe? that's just you getting gassed for being BORING! The bastards just reset you back to the coast for round two! All these things you think are bugs are just part of the plan to keep you entertaining the masses. Just like the Roman empire threw Gladiatorial sports events to keep the masses amused and apeased and prevent too many questions being asked. You are NOT A SURVIVOR, you're merely a pawn to keep the plebs working!

Dean specifically called his mod the "anti-game" because it doesn't follow normal genre conventions of balance or not making players frustrated, and yes, the game does "almost always takes everything to the most realistic extent possible within the limitations of the engine and software, almost completely disregarding gameplay." Even though we all know how bad KoS is, there's no spawn protection, for instance, and as I said before, the game goes to the effort of having projectiles affected by fall-off for guns, rather than simple hitscan weapons. They could add pretty basic vehicles in soon, but instead they're going all out to get a realistic simulator-level helicopter and very realistic car physics. There is no way you can argue DayZ is gamey, even the very zombies are realistic "virus" zombies rather than magical undead who rise from their graves and only die to headshots. The whole morphine thing is a placeholder for their fixing of the medical system in the future. If DayZ was really taking that "gamey" route, then hell, blood bag use would be light-years easier, sights would just give you a flat "accuracy bonus", etc. The game takes into account factors such as exposure and disease, and there are plenty of items which aren't even "balanced" and are technically bloat. I think you'll find morphine giving unrealistic healing is the exception rather than the rule to DayZ's simulator nature. And sorry, I misunderstood you, I thought you meant up to 100 in every server, which would be fucking ridiculous. Anyway, on a server basis, I'm saying being able to find even 10 in the Chernarus wide area, if they were canon, would be unrealistic.
  25. Hmm seeing a lot of "development slow" type posts here but it just isn't true... They budgeted one year to include core features and lets take a look.... Hunting....IN Navmesh.....IN Tents.....IN Cooking....IN Network bubble....IN Real Melee...IN Loot respawn....Waiting New renderer....Waiting More zombies....Waiting Vehicles....Waiting That aint bad, more than half way through the features a little over halfway through projected alpha time. Bearing in mind the logistics and other issues involved with allocation of the funds they didn't know they would have when the project started. Some of the guys saying they have business experience should be able to understand that. Also the budgeted a year after alpha to refine and polish the features. Now with what they have accomplished thus far plus the rest of the alpha and the beta......sorry but they are pretty much right on track. Bar the understandable delays with funds allocation. Its simply impatience, they told us it would be a year till all features were in....it hasn't been a year yet.....they told us another year for beta.....that hasn't even started yet. No fanboi-ism in this post.... just facts :)
