I'd be extremly careful with that. I haven't heard of any armoured vehicles so far, so this seems to be an asset that does not belong in the mod and was brought in by someone using a hack. There is a british assault rifle (L85A2 RIS CWS) and nvgs included in dayz but I'd be also cautious to pick them up since if the tank was illigally brought into the game, those items were as well. There is already someone on these forums who got banned for picking up cheated items. So leave them where they are to be sure. I hope, I could help.

Oh sorry forgot to say, I'm not sure why that has happened but tents, vehicles etc are not saved locally and are stored on the master database for DayZ. We don't have much control over this.

If you have access to a Huey you can get in the pilot or crew chief seat to view the radar which will show near by vehicles. -
Game needs more incentive to team up
madmaxx@madmaxx.info posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
People do what gives them the most personal gain. Currently, that means shoot first to avoid any risk. While I can understand that some people enjoy this, you have to understand that it takes a whole subclass of possibilities away from the game. There really isnt that much incentive to play together in the first place. Now, I can only speak for me, but this gets boring over time. After six or so hours with my character it really does get boring and I would love to team up, but I wont, because there is a very high chance that I lose my hours of progress if I try to do so. Now, instead of making pvp more difficult or add negative consequences too it, why not incentivise teamwork and make the risk actually worthwhile? Currently, there are only two incentives for teamwork: blood transfusions and building vehicles. The last is so difficult that it doesnt happen that much anyway. We need more like this. There must be more things in the game that can only be done with multiple people (or, if done alone, take a long long time). Creating factions for example. Buiding a base and remove zombie spawn from a small area. Making bigger buildings. More items that can only be used together with other people. Infections from drinking bad water or eating bad food that can only be cured by other players. And so on. Some of these things have to be easy to achieve so that people actually think they can directly achieve it by teaming up. This way, you can still play lone wolf if you want, and survive, as long as you are super careful, you can still play bandit, but it now actually makes sense to group up. This would take away nothing from the current game, and you can still play it as it is now, but it would add new possibilites and new playstyles. And wouldnt fighting be more interesting if it wasnt always 1v1? -
The PvP Discussion Thread

I think the main problem is that there isnt much incentive to play together with other people. People do what gives them the most personal gain. Currently, that means shoot first to avoid any risk. While I can understand that some people enjoy this, you have to understand that it takes a whole subclass of possibilities away from the game. When I started playing I always thought 'oh another player can I trust him, or not?' this tension is now gone, as I am better off just killing everybody. Any tips on finding repairable vehicles?
Macenzie replied to eel's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Pretty much anywhere really. Here are places I have seen vehicles spawn: NE airbase: UAZ next to the air tower NE airbase: UAZ between the hangars Govzdno: White Hilux parked up beside a house near the barns Cherno: UAZ parked outside the international hotel I've heard of vehicles spawning: Outside the shops in Zelenogorsk Outside petrol stations Bikes / Quads at the green mountain radio tower -
Since I've finally given up on ever finding NVGs, I decided to focus on a new objective: starting a taxi service. Problem is... I dunno where to look for repairable vehicles. I consulted the wiki, and it appears that almost every type of a vehicle can be found around Cherno. Still, before I venture there I wanted to first ask some of the more experienced players for confirmation and would also welcome some general tips on repairing vehicles.

Bandits don't get punished, Survivors do...

When Arma 2 first released it caused a lot of butthurt in the CoD crowd. The controls are too difficult to learn, it's not optimized for a Pentium 2 / Voodoo 2 / 256mb RAM system, the vehicles make it impossible, the AI sucks, etc. Those complaints about the base game seem to mirror the complaints about darkness, not enough "teamwork" and so on in this mod. I predict in 2 month's time - max - this mod will mostly be over and you'll be searching for a "good" server to play in. One that, you hope, can routinely see 30+ players rather than spamming connections to 50/50 servers just trying to get in. That's just the cycle of gaming these days, it's not a comment on the dev team's (excellent) work. -
A-Team theme song...given the amount of time i spend fixing up vehicles (still no word on how to fix leaky choppers)

I love this aspect of the game and I hope it is developed in the future. (I know about sandbags - please soon!) This is our setup for a camp of four survivors, currently 2 coils of barbed wire, one fireplace, one tent, three vehicles: UAZ jeep, White UAZ (naming error?) and one "Red" all in working order albeit a little battered. We are hoping to expand with tank traps and wire around the whole perimiter for the roaming zombies update and include additional tents when we find them. Please post your camps below!

Servers - Lots of Loot - no zombies? - major FPS loss
Officious (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I didn't see any posts on the forum regarding this issue, I have had horrible FPS since this patch came out. I went from running at 50-70FPS on max settings to 4-7fps sometimes it spikes to 10-12 for a bit. After playing on a few different servers I believe it's an issue with the server spawning too many items and vehicles and bodies; Several servers had horrible FPS but tonnes of loot and no zombies. This happened on TX1 and ANZ1 for sure and a few others whose names I can't remember. This was around 20:000-24:00 EST It also happened to my buddies who I was playing with we're all located in Ontario Canada if that makes any difference although I don't think it does. And finally, at one point the server glitched out and I was out of my bandit body, and now looking like a normal player with all my kit. I couldn't kill the old body and it was just laying prone looking around. As I ran around I found other players frozen in place and I could loot their bags. -
Any game mechanic that forces you to play is a bad one IMO. Although I think vehicles (especialy helicopters) that have been recovered by players (and well hidden) that haven't been moved for an extended period of time should despawn and respawn somewhere else broken.
-
It s pretty much cheated and is totally a game breaker. You can see all the camps that have vehicles, all the destroyed choppers, and ammo are refilled at each restart server. (if it s hard coded, maybe you could put a blank image on top of it)

To clarify, Military camps are areas, surrounded by zombies mostly, in the hopes of finding supplies, guns, ammo, and survival items. Army Camps will be a PvP based item. In order for this to work, a grouping system needs to be added. The way to do that is to give the option to players to join another player. I am a leader of a small group and another wants to join me. All that player has to do is highlight me with his gun and scroll down to "Join Group." To see if it worked, the leader will just look at his notes to see who joined the group Now thats outta the way, let me explain the idea. Throughout the game, both ARMA 2 and the mod DayZ there is A LOT of white space. Open ground of nothing going on. I recommend that predetermined camps be put in on these spaces of emptiness. It doesn't need to be big, but 4 walls and 4 gates put in at each wall. Maybe a crows nest in the middle so that the defenders of the camp have a chance to counter snipers and such. The goal of these camps, are to capture them. They will have lockboxes and crates to store ammo, food, supplies and even vehicle or helicopter parts. I think this would help encourage people to work together. From what I've seen, its been a lot of cut throat antics. The same thought goes through EVERYONES head. Why work with this guy? He is looking at his map right now, I could totally put one through his skull, take ALL his stuff and be set for the next several days. Well no more. You get a small group of guys together and start gearing yourselves up because you WANT that camp! Why? Because you want to be able to do everything this game has to offer like building vehicles, building helicopters and stock piling food. I think the real interesting thing about this idea however is the possible PvP options. Imagine this scenario.... You are the leader of a small band of 7 survivors, well-equiped with 3 Winchesters, 2 Enfields, a CZZ 550, and a M4. Your eyes are set on a camp, south of Guglovo. Scouting out the compound, there seems to be several walls with two towers at opposite corners and a bunker at the front gate. Your sniper reports theres about 50 zombies in and outside the camp. You order your team to spread out and pick their shots and focus on the enemies outside first while the enemies inside slowly stumble out the gate. The sniper takes the first shot, hitting one in the head. As it tumbles over, the horde runs towards your squad. A hail of bullets begin to fly as zombies start toppling over. The sniper reports the Zeds have hit the gate and are coming out. Your team focuses on those zombies and they widdle them down. Soon, the only thing standing is your victorious team. The team moves into the camp and quickly secures the perimeter and captures the area. A list of priorities instantly start flooding your head. Ammo and better guns, food, vehicles, etc. But you can't send everyone. You don't want one lone survivor to come in and steal what you've already stored. So you split the team. You send 4 guys into Guglovo, while you and the two others guard the camp... I can go on and on and on for endless hours of the unlimited amount of possibilities that could happen but use your own imagination. Is there anything that could happen while YOUR team is split up? I hope you all enjoyed the story, but I'm sorry its way too long. But I really like this idea, and I wanna see its implemented!

Date/Time: 5/22/2012 12:30AM PST What happened: All disappear again. Where you were: 142015 Current installed version: 1.5.8.2 Server(s) you were on: NY2 only -
I do believe that was happening on our server last night, people started talking about vehicles in buildings, then alot of people died at once. Shortly after, my team were bombarded with RPG rockets while we raided NW airfield. Thankfully we found the offending player in the server logs and have sent the information off to the development team for action. Hacking on a server full of admins, biiiig mistake.

1. on the main menu underplayer profile, you can change your name and face but that is about it. 2. no, your character location and inventory are saaved on a central database and will be the same across all servers. vehicles and tents will only stay on the server you place them/find them in. 3. i'm not sure if there is a favorites list but you can filter the servers list and search for servers by name using the filter. 4. you have to hit abort and disconnect once to get back to the servers lobby, and then hit ok to respawn. 5. yes, you can use the mouse wheel scroll to pick it up. to throw it a short distance just tap the fire button once when you have the flare equipped. or you could throw it against a wall and hope it doesn't get stuck out of reach. 6. Make sure to pay attention to the server list when you are joining or just ask in global chat. press . to change chat channels and / to type. hope that helped :)

Yeah, the only reason I can think of not to add more vehicles is if it adds server lag. I've played on normal ARMA servers with a lot of vehicles though, and they seemed fine. The other important thing is fuel. It should be realistic usage, I should be able to drive at least across the map in a car with a full tank (but fuel should be scarce). Further in a motorbike (but obviously without anywhere to store a fuel can). I don't know what it's like now because I've never found a damn vehicle as they are far too rare, but I've heard bad things. The map is just too damn big to play without vehicles! Most people stay at the coast, and it's a huge waste of playing area. Rocket seems like a really smart guy, so I'm sure something will be done to address this. Inland spawns and more vehicles that all need fixing would solve this problem, I just hope that's what we get :)

DayZ needs objective other than survival
raptorak replied to pogoman979's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Perhaps the game needs more stats shown on the scoreboard - kills, cans eaten, soda drank, transfusions performed, zombies killed, time alive etc. Also, there do need to be some objectives added - switch on the power, get the train working, turn on the lighthouse, build a base etc. We already have the vehicles which is great - I think we should be able to build some kind of infrastructure back into the world, and have others bring it crashing down. -
you need a bunch of gas but you dont need a full tank. 2-3 jerry cans of gas can you get you to any of the fuel pumps on the map You need a tool box. You need engine parts to fix the engine. You need a main rotor assembly to fix...the main rotor assembly You need scrap metal for the hull, tail rotor and nav system. Hueys are in no way end game items, though. They run out of ammo quick if you are raining down death to nubs on the coast. I agree. It's extremely tedious to fix a vehicle' date=' and I don't even know how you actually go about fixing the broken ones you find. I've just found clues like a tire or a gas can. I get that they want vehicles to be an end game item, but they should at least be a little easier to obtain, if only by rarity. [/quote']

Maybe you didn't got that i'm full with that guy, not against him. He's exploting the game to take an advantage. He exposes the fact that without rules, in the name of the "realism", you're not going anywhere.. simply because this is a game not the real life, and a game needs a set of rules to be played, that's why it is called "game". I may list thousands compromises adopted to make this game (sort of) balanced.. in example the vechicles: do you really believe that in real life it would be so hard to find a working vehicle? Maybe the fuel.. not the vehicles itself.. there should be hundreds of working cars all around, but there's only few.. why? Because otherwise this will be transformed into a "racing game", with ppl jumping with those cars up the hills laughing in chat (totally unrealistic). It is a sandbox.. isn't it? So where's all the vehicles? And all the bazookas? And all the helicopters? Planes? This proves you that you need to "force" ppl to follow certain rules to make the game enjoyable for anyone, and the the bandits behavior is only helping mostly those cod-style players that are not interested into the RPG part of it. Removing the skins is only increasing the problem, since now you don't even have the drawback of being a kill_em_all plr. -

I would like to see an increase in repairable vehicles as well, my group of 5 has been looking for one but hasn't had any luck in a few days. I remember hearing that a lot of vehicles can lag the server though. I've only seen one vehicle and that was a helicopter in my first night playing, wish i would've been able to fly it :D
