Attention Bandit Groups - Sanctioned Firefight
mosscd13 replied to mosscd13's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
@Blitzy I agree with you 100% bro, and I wish that it could happen that way. But I think that the kind of experience you had is very rare with the servers the way they are now. Most large groups own their own servers, and play there. Some servers may have several large groups of regulars that are able to maintain bases and vehicles, but on our server it has yet to happen. -
Seems like no vehicles spawning on my servers
robertstuartmarshall replied to DJKhaled's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I would like to ask people who have found vehicles to give some rough areas to look for them just because so far in all my hours, I have found one boat and one helicopter. I have searched most small towns as well as Cherno and Electro and around them in the fields, too. So please list possible spawn locations where there could be some spawning as I am now curious if I just keep joining weird servers with minute spawn chances. -
Dat Gameplay [Realistic features that don't sacrifice fun]
[email protected] replied to ElemenoP's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Always wondered why they made vehicles as such a pain to acquire in this mod. Not only is the mod unstable to reliably look for the parts in time before the usual server crashes/resets/etc. but I'm fairly certain the virus doesn't affect tires, gasoline, and engines. Also this is ARMA 2, one of the key points of the games engine capabilities is large maps for vehicle and infantry use. -
How about a "Call of Duty" mode that servers can play for all of the kids on here whining about how this game is too hard? It will have the following features that I gathered from the most popular complaints: 1. Melee weapons Because conserving ammo is too hard 2. Choose your spawn location Because walking takes too much time 3. Start with a more powerful gun Because finding better weapons is too much work 4. Display your location on the map (which you will spawn with) Because navigating is too difficult 5. Everyone has night vision goggles Because it's too dark at night and using flares and chemlights are too hard 6. Tons of already working vehicles Because finding and repairing them isn't fun This way all of the complainers will be happy and will leave those of us who want to play a challenging game alone What does everyone think? Any other suggestions for this game mode?

-Work on making servers more stable and fixing bugs -Don't change the gameplay to make it easier for all of these people on here lately complaining how "it's too hard" or "walking takes too much time" or "I die too easily" or "I keep running out of ammo lets have melee weapons" or "how there should be tons of working vehicles"

Dat Gameplay [Realistic features that don't sacrifice fun]
dut replied to ElemenoP's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
[[Vehicles]] - Add them, lots of them. The storyline might explain where they all went. I will hazard a guess and say they were destroyed long ago to help contain the infection. [[Guns]] - More small weapons, less military hardware. I believe this is being worked on right now. Though I disagree with you about civilians having abundant pistols. [[Wounds]] I've only ever been killed cleanly once by another player. Every other time I was knocked out and either got up later or was executed. Zombies do eat downed players already and it is fun to watch, especially if you are responsible. -
VEHICLES NOT SPAWNING (related to HiveAuth, exe)
DJKhaled posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I’ve tried asking for help on the IRC chat and other people on the forums but no one can figure it out. Here’s what happens when I start my servers: 1) Start HiveAuth.exe and wait until it connects 2) Start Hive.exe and wait until it connects 3) Launch one of my server batch files until the console appears 4) The first player joins 5) At this point…..HiveAuth.exe displays this and remains stuck on it: 6) When myself and others try to join they will be stuck on “Waiting for server response” forever 7) To make it work I have to restart HiveAuth.exe and Hive.exe during this time and immediately they start working and players spawn in 8) The problem is that it seems they skipped over the part where they load tents/vehicles into the server Lofty in IRC suggested that the problem could be that it tries loading vehicles for both servers and gets stuck: 13:46[bTB]Lofty_EU5 That could be part of the issue. one instance of hive will try loading vehicles for both servers when you restart it, so it might not know where to put them, hence HiveAuth getting stuck at TRY!..PUT! 13:47[bTB]Lofty_EU5 when it should stream TRY!..PUT!..GET! for a few lines The problem with that though is it happens if I try just launching one server I’ve tried everything it seems…multiple restarts, only launching one server, experimenting with opening the .exe at different times and no luck. -
Game Design Analysis: Why Cross-Server persistency must die
Landen replied to Tartantyco's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
you cant loot an area you just spawned in as far as ive seen, the loot and zombies dissapear in the area unless other players are there too. as for safe zones, lkie camps people make with several tents and vehicles. well, if you hide them, they wont be found. i hop servers, not in quick succession but when a friend comes online, or if we are trying to get into servers together etc. but also, when i havent played in daytime for several days and i just want to be in daylight so i switch into a euro server. now, if they made several servers, for each time zone, and had more accurate dasy/night cycles (like how its night at 8 or 9 pm even though its bright until 10 or 11). then it would be alright, to have a server, where you enter it for the first time, and it becomes the server your character solely exists on. ensuring you a spot on that server only. however, as things are where there are connection issues with some servers, or player limits on servers, then a master server persistence is required. -
Dat Gameplay [Realistic features that don't sacrifice fun]
DJKhaled replied to ElemenoP's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Disagree about working vehicles all over the place One of the fun parts is searching for a vehicle with your group, finding the parts, and repairing it, it's rewarding Also the rarity of seeing them in action What fun would it be if every new player in Elektro can just hop in a car and drive all over the map -
Dat Gameplay [Realistic features that don't sacrifice fun]
ElemenoP posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Loving the mod, and as I've been playing I've had a few ideas that I feel would spice up the game a little. Adding more realism without sacrificing fun, while keeping the general atmosphere the same. [[Vehicles]] - Add them, lots of them. I understand it's the post apocalypse, but seriously, more cars and trucks would make traversing the wastes so much better. Cars can sit in a garage for years before they start to break down, yet there's still corpses on the ground from the upheaval. So why is every car on chernarus a wreck? [Gameplay implications] I see no reason not to simply add a ton of working, or almost working vehicles. At least 1 per city, especially inland (edit: Note, not enough to turn the game into a rally sim.) They certainly don't make life any easier, as a car is a big, loud target that's restricted to roads and fields. That said, I'd still be willing to take the risk of getting jumped for the ability to cut 3 hours from my hike inland w/myself and my buddies. Exploration becomes easier, yet riskier. Im only talking civilian vehicles though. Maybe super-rare technicals in the middle of the woods. With the increase in vehicles, fuel trading may begin to develop, and transporting groups and goods becomes far easier overall. Edit: to address replies Additionally, with the present system, getting a vehicle in working condition as a solo player is exceedingly difficult. It's doable, but the time spent/reward ratio is ridiculous. It can be rewarding, yes, but it's just not worth the time and risk if you're on your own. I agree that group play should be encouraged, but as it stands now, unless you find a working vehicle as a solo player, you probably wont be driving. Also, chernarus is huge. It was made with vehicles in mind. I do enjoy the occasional hike through the woods, but not all of us have the time to spend hours trudging through repetitive forests. It's a fantastically boring time sink. As a last remark, I don't think the fun of this game should hinge upon exclusivity. I know it's great to have assets other players do not, but "because not everyone has one" doesn't make things entertaining in it's own right. [[Guns]] - More small weapons, less military hardware. Assuming the ladder issue gets fixed, handguns should be the most common weapons. Civilians have far greater access to handguns than anything else, yet 1/3rd of the people I encounter are packing military weapons. Hangars and airbases have piles of covered bodies in them, and automatic weapons just laying around. What? Military grade automatic weapons should be much much harder to find. Pistols, shotguns and smaller rifles, on the other hand, should be much more abundant, and in much greater varieties. [Gameplay implications] High powered automatic weapons remove a lot of the tension from the game. They certainly have their place, but they remove a lot of the fun and sense of vulnerability from both firefights and zombie hordes. All of the best duels I've had in DayZ have been pistol and shotgun fights. With an automatic weapon you can just cut people down. With a handgun, not only do fights last longer, but the outcomes can be unpredictable. People can survive things you wouldn't expect, and winning a gunfight because your target bled out after you thought he ran away is incredibly satisfying. [[Wounds]] Speaking of bleeding out, as it stands now a gunshot can empty you of all of your blood in about 2 seconds. Meanwhile, immense pain causes a sudden onset of parkinsons. This is a game that's supposed to be gritty and realistic. Death comes far too quickly, and pain is either insignificant or annoying. I'm not proposing adding gore or anything like that. Instead, the rate of bleeding should be reduced along with the effectiveness of bandages. Rather than stopping bleeding once applied, bleeding should begin to slow bleeding until it stops. More effective bandages could also be added to hospitals/churches. Along with this, immense pain (serious gunshot wounds to the torso, horrible zombie beatdowns, etc) should force the Arma wounded animation. You know, the one where the player ends up squirming around on the ground in 1st person, completely defenseless. [Gameplay implications] A slower bleed out time opens all sorts of possibilities. A serious wound should be something that will probably kill you, but is still possible to manage. There should be a bigger chance to save your buddies life after you dispatch the sniper that dropped him. You'll have to deal with his cries of agony while you do it though, as they potentially attract more zombies. Additionally, blood transfusions suddenly become far more than just health packs, and having a designated medic in your crew could become hugely beneficial. Also, call me a sadist, but I'd really enjoy being able to deliver a coup de grace to that stupid bandit who tried to ambush me. Or, I'll leave him to the Z's. Who knows? Edit: to address replies I do believe that there should still be wounds that kill you quickly, no doubt about it. All I'm saying is, sometimes you die quick, sometimes you don't. It would be awesome if the game reflected this. Hopefully, I'll think of more things. Thanks for reading! -
I really think there should be a solution for a sort of 'teamwork only' server. Where you can actually build a 'survivor community' like some post apocalypse movie where they always have a 'safe haven town' somewhere. Work together on arming up and fixing vehicles and stuff, eventually you could fortify a whole location and run ops out to scavenge and fight the undead horde in helicopters and trucks and what not. I think that would be really awesome, but with even a few bandits on a pub server it will just get destroyed. My first idea was that you could run a passworded server, however your character would ONLY be saved for that server, and only available on that server. That way you can't cheat or dupe at all to get an advantage on others. Then if a large community like tactical gamer, 21cw, shacktac or whoever want to run a game for their community they can as well.

When I first saw this mod, I suspected at least on of the following were true: 1. This game has graphics like Half Life 1 2. Everyone who had ever played this game was dead, and that the forums were basically non existent, along with the servers (Since mods like Zombie Master and Zombie Panic Source had nonexistent forums/communities). But after an indepth investigation of the game, I found it had graphics exceeding those of some popular games I happen to know. The team work and PvP aspect also really hooked me. The realism just shocked me. Pain? Vehicles? Eating? Blood loss? It was too good to be true, but it was. Alas, I do not have Arma 2 Combined Operations (I have neither Arma 2 nor Operation Arrowhead). If some one gifted me Arma 2: CO, I would be very grateful! I hope DayZ grows to be full grown game someday!

I have some suggestions, hear me out: 1. Keys. Players should be able to drop keys for vehicles in certain areas to prevent stealing. The computer would detect whether or not the person had the keys on them. When the person went to disconnect, he could drop the keys somewhere random. Some vehicles obviously do not have keys. 2. Transportation Companies: Certain people, such as a group owning a helicopter, should be able to pick people up in exchange for money or goods. While the heli is hovering above a marked spot, the Survivor should be able to offer some goodies in order to board. The pilot should be able to deem the goods acceptable, and once so, the person should be able to get in the vehicle. 3. New Vehicles: Blackhawk helicopter, unarmed transportation Humvee (no guns, but more spaces for fuel and such) and generally more vehicles with more cargo space, more fuel efficeincy and passenger space. 4. Ability to spawn in on a friend. A person should have the ability to friend someone, and once they log in, should be able to spawn right behind them if they choose. 5. Garages. Folks should be able to keep their vehicles in a safe location, like a garage a person can build using scrap metal or something. 6. Clans. Obviously. Groups that you can spawn in on and hang out with. 7. Fortresses: If a certain number of people are ina town, zombies should no longer spawn in that town, as people may be guarding a safe zone. This would provide hope for lost survivors. Thanks!

Having more full fledged vehicles would make things unbalanced. However a bicycle could work. Too many cars would make the game unbalanced, but a bicycle isn't as fast, and would have to keep to roads, they are too slow on dirt. If we're talking about faster transportation that is both balanced in gameplay, and realistic, a bicycle would be the closest. People couldn't run you down with one, because they're much more vulnerable in a bike. Ultimately people would be sacrificing self preservation for transportation speed. Also they could be more common, because lots of people own bikes, not alot would think about them during an infection/apocalypse A secondary idea to that, is that as a protection for your bike, you could use the current vehicle construction system that's in place to take off your front tire (maybe require toolbox?), essentially protecting your bike from thieves.

I assume you got the email or whatever Mojo sent about vehicles.

Will familiarity kill this mod?
[email protected] replied to Disgraced's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
spawn -> go to hospital -> head to stary -> either camp stary and kill whoever comes or kill the people already camping it (always someone) -> get bored and head to NW airfield -> clear it out with friends -> loot pile barracks -> get silenced M4s, NVGs, rangefinders, medium machine guns, high caliber snipers -> go to the coast and kill newbies out of boredom -> look for vehicles -> find none -> go kill more newbies out of boredom this is basically how it goes for me and my friends -
What fun would it be if there were ton of already working vehicles around and everyone had one? Keep the rare broken vehicles as they are. It's actually exciting to find a broken car and then have to repair it with your group, it's rewarding Having working cars everywhere would defeat that

do tents and vehicles follow you from server to server?

Many more working vehicles
SwissArmy (DayZ) replied to SwissArmy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Even the countryside of the Czech Republic has more vehicles around than I've seen here. This isn't some backward, Soviet-era territory.... -
Also use the search function - it's there for a reason and I've made a comprehensive thread about tents and vehicles some time ago so there's absolutely no need to create more trash around the forums.

Admitted Duping and Hacking 20+ LLKJ members
EyesandEars replied to EyesandEars's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So basically there in one single post is an admission of 20 LLKJ members Duping. "Even when there were 20 goons on the server out of 50 random pubbies and we were all using the backpack dupe exploit to get decked out with DMRs and MP5SDs and NVG and vehicles people were still getting picked off all the time." and "especially when you realize how easy is is to dupe items or download hacks for the lovely Arma engine" And just what do you think clan member do for 20-30 minutes on a passworded server? lol This stuff is what will ruin the mod. -
Vehicles as they are are great. They're special. Anyone can have a vehicle if they care to work at it, or if they get lucky and steal one. If you're smart you don't drive your vehicle into town. You park a ways out so that no one hears the engine and you move in on foot. Sometimes you just get unlucky and your ride will get jacked. Too bad. If vehicles were all over the place we'd have morons careening from one end of the map to the next, running people down just because they can, and vehicles wouldn't be nearly as cool and awesome as they are now.

Well you must consider the fact that this is not necessarily the same North American metropolis that the Walking Dead, (or any Zombie flick I've seen recently in the main media,) happens to take place. The 225 km2 area Arma 2 and DayZ is centered around, is actually based upon the lesser-populated Eastern part of the Czech Republic. If you think about it, this land wouldn't necessarily be full of Fords, Chevy's, and consumerists. In fact, the population of this area, (if this were reality,) wouldn't be much over 150,000 inhabitants. So take that math, apply it to the fact that, IF there was a Zombie infection in an area of 150,000, and there's often about 2000 Zombies on the map, with an even smaller amount of survivors, (let's say 50 depending on the server,) the odds are that most of the other survivors took their vehicles, (if they could afford them,) and took right off in to the mainlands, leaving only the junky vehicles behind to be torn apart by Zombies and scavanged Bandits alike.

EyesandEars posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Here is the post from today. 'PUNCHITCHEWIE The really charming thing about this game is how being in a big awesome clan doesn't really prevent you from going back to square one at any loving second. Even when there were 20 goons on the server out of 50 random pubbies and we were all using the backpack dupe exploit to get decked out with DMRs and MP5SDs and NVG and vehicles people were still getting picked off all the time. Not to mention all the goons? who have been lurking in mumble to hunt other goons. This is a game lets a new explorer who just started 30 minutes ago and happens to head north end the progress of people with high level cooperation, knowledge and gear. I've never seen that before in any game, and it creates so much tension and atmosphere. The possibility of chaos and death and poo poo devolving to every man for himself is always there no matter how much you play, and despite many game companies claiming this mechanic this is the first one that pulled it off. This game gets really lovely in the late phase, especially when you realize how easy is is to dupe items or download hacks for the lovely Arma engine, but is sure has broken some kickass new ground." Link to forum post http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3481582&userid=0&perpage=40&pagenumber=56#post403770333 Notice no one after says it is wrong. they use LLKJ and J4G. -
I havent seen any vehicles yet, but i did come across two pitched tents, they were both empty. Their location was awful too....smack in the middle of a small grassy field close to a large city.
