Fare enough. I admit my mistakes. BUT WHAT ABOUT CARS, GODDAMMIT! There are a SERIOUS lack of vehicles in the game. And it takes a team to repair a car...

Do any vehicles spawn with weapon in them?
Validuz replied to 's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I know some vehicles spawn with some few odd-ends in them. UAZ At green mountain spawns with like 20 DMR mags. The White Pickup spawns with a Cayote Backpack. But with all that? Pretty sure you stole someone's stash ;) Don't worry. Me and my friends stole a clans 5-car 25~ or so tent stash. It's alright :D -
Useless? You know how fast that thing goes downhill offroad? (my record stands at 130 km/h) It doesn't use any fuel, at the moment repairs itself for some reason every time you get off it (unless you totally break it), doesn't make much noise and is very easy to hide. Probably one of the most useful vehicles in the game I would say.

Seattle 67: Vehicles, Tents and Bikes unspawned
ynefel replied to QuickSkope's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I'm an admin myself, and our server has had all tents and vehicles borked. While it sucks, I suggest you learn to deal with losing stuff in this game. Life's going to be very stressful if you don't. Best to just suck it up and move on, it happens. It's an alpha. -
Will Arma 3 actually be optimized?
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to super pretendo's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
GPU = graphics CPU = calculations You can't just put the load on your GPU once your CPU is at its limits. Arma is NOT a very graphics intensive game. It's a code intensive game. It calculates a lot of stuff. Especially playing DayZ mod in situations with lots of zombies. Boot up the editor on the same map, i'm sure you'll get better performance. You can't really compare this game to other mainstream games in terms of performance. This is a game where you setup situations and it runs the simulation. Calculating on the fly everything that is going on. Most games out there are nothing more than scripts playing out. Pile on top of that the massive maps, extensive selection of destroyable objects, vehicles, ballistics, insane view distances, and amazing lighting. If you have a problem with how DayZ hogs your CPU usage, comment on that, don't blame it on Arma2 being unoptimized. -
So DayZ is in my top 5 of video games (due to it's need to think plans through). But I have one small problem: loot is ridiculous. I mean it takes you ages to find a water bottle, when EVERY house should have one. I know it is an apocalypse and everything is looted already (not to mention that the apocalypse has probably been going on for days, even months). Guns are rare, but I always find them at the airport, which is ok. But when it takes you 40 minutes to find a WATER BOTTLE? Really? Same with matches and cars. There should be more vehicles in the game. Let's be honest, in any 225 square kilometre area, there shouldn't be 10 vehicles. I'm not asking Rocket to change this, it just seems a bit unrealistic. vehicles not spawning anymore?
ynefel replied to sakage (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I haven't checked other servers, but we lost all vehicles and tents (that we know of) on our server. It's interesting it only happened after the Hive maintenance the devs performed on monday-ish. Again, I'm not expressing displeasure at this - this sort of thing happens, I'm cool with that. I made the resolution very early on with this game to not get too attached to anything. =) The nature of the mod, combined with the fact it's in Alpha means you will lose things. Be nice if one of the devs could weigh in and shed some light on this. Will a future DayZ update fix it? Do we just have to be patient and wait for a respawn timer or some such? Can we do something to help? -
US 46, the admins are disgusting
replied to Tenchu (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
["Great" Admin] Hey guys, server admin here. Got some problems with the server, it needs a reboot. But, because some random dude who's never admined a server before said that a great admin would give an hour warning, we are just going to wait around for an hour with no loot, no zombies, no tents, and no vehicles. It's the GREAT thing to do.....[/"Great" Admin] -

Sounds legit to me i'm afraid. We lost vehicles even after saving due to restarts. We play on a server that restarts every 4 hours (which I think you need in dayz else zombies/loot/clock starts messing up) - the restart message is automated, I dont know if that was the same for you. Its an issue with the vehicle system i'd say, perhaps it could be looked into next-next patch. I love the realistic "minecraft" style of play where you build a camp etc but i get a hot flush every time the server restarts / we go away for a week without playing because this game is not very "persistant" at this time. I really hope Rocket and the devs look into further ways of preventing item/camp loss over periods of time. -
- Everything involving in-game communication is dependent on the channel you select. Use the ',' and '.' keys to switch back and forth. Directional allows only people around you to hear you, Side and Global will allow everyone you hear you. Don't be that person announcing your position to the entire world. - No one you meet is your friend. You may eventually come across someone who doesn't want to take away everything you love, but always presume that the man you meet is some sort of terrible, awful person. They usually are. With the recent 1.4 update, Humanity has been introduced. If your Humanity score drops too low, your character model is turned into a Bandit. You can pretty reliably determine these individuals as bad men. - The Makarov is a terrible gun, made for bad people. If you want to put a zombie or player down quickly, it's going to take headshots. Replace it as soon as humanly possible. The M1911 .45 pistol seems much more common now, fortunately. - Whenever possible, avoid traveling on pavement. Asphalt and similar surfaces cause significantly more noise and will quickly draw the attentions of undead friends. When in heavily infested areas, crouch walking will usually allow you to get around most of the Zombies, but beware your fellow man nonetheless. Not Your Friend - Zombies can't run indoors. Sprinting into a building will force them to walk and give you the time and room necessary to extradite yourself from a horde. Preferably you don't ever find yourself in this position, but when in a pinch it can save your life. - Ocean water does not currently dehydrate you. Drink that shit up. I usually carry two canteens with me, so I always have some spare water, just in case. Similarly, learn which inland cities have fountains that can be used for refilling. Ponds are another option, although they are more finicky than necessary, currently. - Learn what buildings offer what kind of loot tables. Barns will provide things like shotguns and hunting rifles, while a military hangar will offer up military grade hardware. Garages and warehouses will usually have car repair items and garbage. Remember that the nicer and rarer your equipment, the bigger of a target you will be. - Don't deathmatch. Randomly killing players makes you a huge dick. Don't be that guy. - The continuous sound of flies signals there is a player nearby. If you haven't heard gunshots in sometime, quickly locate, loot, and move on. If you HAVE heard gunfire, it's usually better to stay away and hidden for a time, observing. Keep in mind, the assailant may have had a suppressed weapon, although it's fairly unlikely. - It is usually better to avoid players than to engage them. The amount of times I have simply sat in a bush, listening to folks talking as they walked past me is innumerable. People are oblivious if you use common sense. Similarly, if you are being hunted by a player, if you can find your way into a forest, put as much distance and trees between you two and find an area to drop to the ground. 9 times out of 10, they will run right past you. From there, you are in the position of power. - On a similar note, traveling through forests is much safer than roads. Zeds don't spawn out there, and as long as you can navigate reliably (You do have a map and compass, don't you?), you're golden. You'll still need to visit civilization for supplies, but otherwise you’ll be fine. Very probably still not your friend! - Blood transfusions can only be administered by other players. Bring your own friends. Otherwise, you'll need to find wild animals, kill them, use a Hunting Knife to Skin them, a Box of Matches to start a fire, and cook the meat. Each piece will give you 800 blood. - Use the 1866 Winchester. Seriously, it is the best gun in the game. It's common enough to find without a lot of effort, the ammo is common and plentiful, and it uses two different varieties. Slugs are great up to 200 meters and pellets will allow you to easily clear out aggressive Zed. Each inventory slot of ammunition holds 15 rounds, too! - Vehicles are repaired piece by piece. Engine Parts will fix the engine, Fuel Parts will fix the Fuel Tank. Depending on the sort of vehicle, you'll need anywhere from 2 to 4 tires, and full Jerry Cans will replenish the fuel proportionately. They'll fill a motorcycle fuel tank much more a Blackhawk, obviously. - Different sorts of Zombies drop different loot. Civilians might drop food, drink, or garbage. Soldiers might drop ammunition! - Due to the Day/Night cycle operating in real time on a local basis, you should always be able to find a server that is Day (or Night, if you're a masochistic asshole). Feel free to leave any questions in the comments below! I'll be happy to answer any you may have. Otherwise, please browse the DayZ forums here.

After being crushed while repairing a vehicle, I'm done.
SF-501 posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Because Arma2 has a terrible context menu system that is totally realistic and immersive, the only way I could get the repair fuel tank option to show up on the Ural that I had found and painstakingly shuttled parts to while dodging zombies and surviving bandit attacks was to crawl directly underneath the vehicle. Not remembering that this would cause the vehicle to jump in a fit of joy, as all vehicles do when they are repaired, it lead to my death as 16 tons of soviet truck slammed down on my character with a joyful squeak from the suspension. So much for my M107, Bizon SD, NVGs, M136, and whatever else I had in the truck/on my body. Glitchy physics, terrible AI (the zombies are pathetic), plus rampant hacking means I'm done with this mod for the foreseeable future. Pretty much the same reasons I stopped playing Arma 2 also, now that I think about it. (I've actually had an A-10 destroyed by its own missile clipping into the wing immediately as it launched). Inb4 'its alpha' 'don't let the door hit you on the way out' and other cliche condescending comments. These are the same issues that prevent vanilla ARMA 2 from becoming a more widely played game. Glitchy physics, AI that flips between retarded and godlike (try ordering a squadron of tanks to do anything and watch the hilarity that ensues, or watch militia always hit the barrel of your tank with RPGs), and hackers. Its too bad because I really like the concept of this game.. ARMA 2 is just not a good platform to run it on. -
It was our vehicle depot on the SW of the map. We originally found a camp up at the NW in the trees just below the hilltop. That was when we got out with a truck and a uaz. That was when BigSarg was back trying to get another vehicle when he was discovered there and killed. By the time we got coordinated and went back the vehicles were moved, a red car was left wrecked, and tents nearly all empty. Some time later we had one of our guys locate (randomly spotted them as he went by) a dirtbike and the VS3 south of Guglovo (i think - anyway it was somewhere in the center of the map) which he had to repair both in order to recover them. A few days later we were scouting the NW in search of any camps when we saw someone driving the white offroad pickup. We initially lost contact with it, but me and one on a dirt bike continued to scout and decided to check the old location (we wanted to recover the red car that was left behind but it was gone as well). One last hunch to check the top of the hill for any camp because we knew that white truck couldn't have been going up that dead end road without a purpose. Sure enough, we located two guys with the British Offroad, two ATVs, and the white Helix and a bicycle. One of the guys D/C'd when wounded - I ASSUME that was you or one of your crew (a tad ironic after you decried other clans for D/C'ing on you). The guy in the ghillie suit hung around watching us while we held security for the remainder of our team to get the UAZ up the hill. We had just enough crew to take one person for each vehicle and boogie them out to our SW vehicle depot that you eventually discovered. We had quite the laugh that the two guys up there didn't throw themselves into combat between us and their vehicles but instead decided to protect themselves by hiding and disconnecting. And that is the entire story of how we got our vehicles. Oh, we found the bus west of Zelenegorsk but didn't use it much. We gave one of our member's son (young kid) the bus to use as his own, which you had shot up and left behind. Him and his dad repaired it and have since moved it, but it was the city bus - not the blue van bus. As far as the group split, it was was due to someone with a known association with a second group that we refused to merge with despite repeated requrests. The healthy assumption was that the dual loyalty and schism over the non-merger was enough of a motivation to divulge or vehicle depot location. Understandable I think you would agree. Anyways, once you nailed our vehicle depot in the SW we did not recover any other vehicles and have been playing on another server since. If someone is locating scattered vehicles rapidly after repeatedly moving them, I would suggest moving servers if you believe it to be because of a hacker. But it isn't myself, BigSarg, or Pusher. As far as any vehicle thefts happening over the last two weeks, I listed our raids above. Anything else is non of our doing. I will add, however, that if you are leaving vehicles scattered about the map people are probably just bumping into them as they traverse from point of interest to point of interest. I'm surprised you haven't figured out that most of this ground is traveled at some point by the numerous players that are on and off the server throughout the day. Oh, and about the offer to link up on steam to "straighten this out"... I don't think there is anything to talk about as I narrated the facts to you as they happened. There is nothing else I could tell you to make you feel better.

Well, we have a few of the better vehicles stashed. Last week a trio of hackers however teleported almost every vehicle in the game, including the ones we were using, to a plateau in the central/north of the map. How do we know they teleported them? Because all our vehicles literally vanished at the same time right in front of us, and a dude came sliding over a hill into visual range at roughly 500 meters a second. Two days later when we finally tracked the location down, they still had our gear in them. I'm not sure how much the vehicles have been moved since then. We do mark the rough location on the map when we have a full server. We don't really need the few we have, but, we'd rather keep an eye on them and donate them to a dedicated crew that is playing rather than let them sit out in the open and have a solo player blow one up and it be gone for 7 days :)

we had the same issues on people finding the vehicles, always when we logged out for an hour they would go missing, never when we were online, they just looked at the map and waited till our markers dissapear (because thats how they do it, usin cheats). We even split into small groups of 2 and parked cars all over the place but still got found, some people just hunt vehicles/camps so fair play... but alot hack, on our server i have caught some scripts already, the other scripts are detected it's just battle eye doesn't ban them immediately.

Just so everyone knows, we DO have vehicles spawns!

vehicles not spawning anymore?
ynefel replied to sakage (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Similar issues here. Had vehicles on our server since it first went live about a month ago - since getting it back up and running yesterday, post-DDoS maintenance, our existing vehicles are gone. (Tents as well, but that's not such a great mystery - it happens) Myself and 2 others have scouted all known vehicle spawns on the server and have not encountered a single vehicle - not even a bicycle. My question is more what's causing it. It sucks not having vehicles, but I'm sure I'll survive. I always thought vehicles were stored/maintained locally, but in the wake of hive maintenance, the vehicle issues seem to have presented themselves, so I'm guessing that's not the case. Not complaining, by the way. If it's a known/explainable issue, that's fine - just looking for some more info, I guess. -
vehicles not spawning anymore?
Denuth replied to sakage (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I have vehicles on my server, one of which is spawning to frequently...and its buggy. The small boat.. I blew it up 2 days ago and its back, so I hopped in it for shits and gigs and hoped up shortly afterward...the throttle or something stuck and it took off on its own adventure eventually i'm assuming, running out of gas in the middle of the ocean. Was a great distraction for those on the coast though. -
My server is just a few days old and I found a rotor assembly today. No vehicles yet though.
-
Well it could be pure coincidence that you guys found us because we relocated to the north east of the map when we finally got all our vehicles back. We had the Ural , S1203 , V3S , Offroad , UAZ , Tractor , 6 Atv's , The pickup and and Dirt Bike. We found every vehicle on the server and had them for quite some time. Then they started getting found 1 by 1 so we decided to move and we literarly moved the vehicles to every single location on the map only to have them found by the same group of people. Every day we would lose more vehicles after we would search for about 2 weeks to try to get them until we stumbled on the camp that had every vehicle we took. It was at the Southwest of the map we just got everything back were really happy and knew we were going to be found so we went NE only to be found right as we got to the spot. We also shot out bus tires of there only vehicle they had left and we saw a bus where we were so we assumed that people teleported in the bus with no wheels lol. Either way it was a different group of people we were accusing the people south west of vehicle finding scripts because they did take every vehicle no matter where we moved too. The funny thing is you guys have to ease up on your paranoia too by accusing half of your squad. There seemed to be alot of "pure coincidence" after most of our cars were taken. I understand when we found every single vehicle fixed em up and brought them there we had about a dozen of vehicles and can easily be found. I was regarding after atvs started getting stolen from trees spread across a 10k radius and vehicles hidden so carefully keep getting found afterwards. Either way I hope you can understand the paranoia coming from the fact that when we actually recovered each vehicle one by one on the map we never had any opposition. The mere fact that we were found at SW , W , NW , N , NE and E every single day for 2 weeks just felt way too sketch. Feel free to add my steam name SpecSniper if you want to discuss this more and get to the bottom of it.

The map ends when you stop seeing grass, mostly rolling hills with a dirt texture, like the debug plains. And yes, it would be much much better if tents/vehicles can't save off the map :/

Removing stuff off-map
40ozcasualty replied to WalkerDown (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I agree. Something needs to be done about the hoarding. I think vehicles that have left there spawn area should re-spawn after an hour or so of inactivity. Keep the vehicles spawning around the towns/cities and give EVERYONE a fair chance to use them. -
I'm getting error message saying "You got kicked off the server." immediately when I enter the lobby. I can play on most of the servers but I can't connect to servers with ports: 2302, 2306. I've tried to reinstall the game, update all the clients, rebooted computer, changed router even tried to have my mate send his installed folder. And have him connect his computer at my house to see if it was my connection, but It worked for him. I really wanna connect to these servers because my mates are playing there and they found vehicles etc. Any ideas?
-
Off map is the area where nothing is programmed into the game but can still be walked into or driven into. It contains only featureless hills with no trees or even grass. And I agree that nothing should be allowed to be saved off map. This is why it is so hard to find vehicles on most servers, groups have moved all of the vehicles a few miles outside of the play area to horde them.
-
at least 4. they reet on server restarts. we farmed them for a while till we had ammo and guns comming out our eyeballs. then lost everything to vehicles eating items and a hacker stealing our truck.
