Base Defenses ( Document included )

I love the idea here. To be honest, the turrets shouldnt be possible to blow up with normal weapons, you would need a rocket to take them out, and one camp could have 4 turret's at max, and to set one up, you would need 4 sandbags, and the turret parts. And they could look something like the old comand and conquer turrets. and could be upgrade 2times after getting built. Normal: Machinegun aka M249, MK48 mod, all with thermal sight, capable of killing up to 150meters To destroy these you would need: -4 nades -One Rocket 1st Upgrade: Submachine gun for close quarter: effective range 150Meters, grenade launcher/rocket launcher for vehicles effective range: 100 meters To destroy these you would need: -8nades -2 rockets 2nd upgrade: Sub machine gun, grenade/rocket launcher similar to the first upgrade. However they would also have a one time use sam rocket to take down helicopters, and you would need to reload this rocket each time its fire by using rocket launcher ammo. -Rocket: Effective range 300meters To destroy it, would require 4rockets, and they would be immune to grenade damage and gun fire. These are just suggestions and are pretty borderline crazy i know. But take head, that this would take alot of time and team effort to maintain. Im talking repairs needed everyday, a crap ton of parts needed, and for each upgrade you would have to increase the parts needed, or the turret would downgrade again. Weapons were just a spare of the moment thing and can be adjusted, but i think it's a musthave to have diffrent types of weapons on the turret, depending on what people can have. Reading a post earlier regarding a generator these could be implemented together, and would truly make things diffrent from what they are now, and teamwork would really benefit people. As it is now my whole clan have stopped storeing anything in tents besides medical supplies, no point as the trees are to spread out to be worthwhile having a campsite in, you can server hop past "wirefencing and sandbags" bear traps wont change anythin either. So for the time beeing we have no valid means of keeping a base up and running as servers keep eating our tents aswell, so currently the whole tenting buiseness aren't usefull for anything but luring people to them so we can kill them.. So this whole thread gets a huge + from me. Well made plan mate, hopeing to see this getting developed further! -Z
  2. Now you and your clan have a new objective. Protect the assets you hold so dear. This is part and parcel of survival. Before this was even implemented me and my clan would hide our camps within map borders and actively try to protect and defend said camp. I find this a lot of fun and adds so much to the gaming experience and immersion. You must have such a boring game hording all your gear in a location where there is absolutely no threat. There might as well be locks on tents and vehicles and players are unable to be looted. I'm yawning just thinking about it. Oh well, it has been implemented now and IMHO it's for the better. This means players will now have to actively camp within the gaming borders instead of cowardly hiding with all their cookies out in the middle of nowhere. GJ Dev team, another step in the right direction! Look, everyone, an advanced player, right here. I agree with everything said here.

    Back-story: Sliders

DayZ is a "sharded" MMO - each server has a low player count, and is independent from others. This causes "unnatural" things, like: * you and a friend being in the same town but not actually being able to see each other ("oops, I joined the wrong server"). * server-bound items -- tents, fences, vehicles. * server hoppers. * DC'ers. The last 2 are arguably exploits, but I'm not suggesting a fix for them here -- there's plenty of other threads with ideas on how to mitigate exploits! Instead, I've been trying to explain how all these "unnatural" things could make sense within the RP environment of the game, and the most obvious thing that comes to mind is Sliders. If you've not seen it, the gist is: a guy builds a black box that can open worm-holes to other dimensions / parallel universes, but it's got a timer on it so it can't be re-used too quickly. Unfortunately, they can't control which parallel universe they end up in, and a sci-fi TV show ensues as they go on an adventure through different crazy versions of "earth". The abort button, and the server selection screen are our magic black box. It doesn't matter why (maybe you were working away at the LHC when a mini-black-hole got flung out of the particle accelerator right into your desk, spontaneously expanding to swallow your office from the world, before spontaneously evaporating without trace. yes i know that's not possible ;P) -- but one day you wake up on Chernarus beach, and find you've got a high-tech wrist-watch on. When you use the wrist-watch, you fall through a portal to another version of Chernarus. Bam, unnatural behaviours explained. Each "shard"/server it a parallel world. This could be tied into some of the suggested exploit fixes -- e.g. one solution for DC'ers is to keep their body in the game for 1 minute after they've disconnected, so they can't simply abort in a firefight unfairly. During this time, they could be playing an "activate the portal" animation (playing with their watch), and when it completes, a worm-hole appears and swallows them up.
  5. I can agree on vehicles, since there is a limited amount of them on each server. (correct me if im wrong). But at the same time, nothing stops you from raiding their camp and taking their vehicles either, now does it? And i haven't been playing that long or that much, but i've still seen busses, tractors, lorries, dirt bikes and normal bikes. Aquired both bikes and dirt bikes. Dont go to NEAF or NWAF without adequate gear, or be prepared to fight atleast. Get a friend, one of you loots and one keeps watch. Wouldnt it be easier for them to delete all unwanted items that have been hacked into the game? I know people have hacked apaches and a-10s atleast. And im also neither a pussy, cheater nor hoarder. Ad hominem doesnt award you any points.

Out of bounds item/vehicles cleanup [2012-07-06]

Quit using vehicles about a week ago due to the volume of people who magically discover camps when you park vehicles in there. I had a few camps, one with and one without. The one with never lasted more than a few hours before being infested with Ghille wearing M1A4 SD wielding warpers, the one without has been un-found for 2 week. Make of that what you will but I know what my deductions lead me to believe.
  7. Acebane and the other hoarders... You know, if you ke the military gear and hate looking for it, and you like working in squads... There's this cool game that's almost like Dayz. And you don't have to log in to drink soda or eat beans or avoid non-threatening zombies. What you really want to be playing is Arma II. You should go do that. You can team up. No zombies (since they mean no threat to you). All the vehicles and weapons you could want without all that boring duplicating... I mean server hopping... I mean amazing luck that everyone has a super rare weapon, full kit and NVGs. Too many people want to play Arma but hang around here and circumvent the spirit of the game to play Arma with zombies. Maybe the real Arma players are too skilled for you, so you'd prefer popping noobs in Stary Sobor so you can feel like Carlos Hathcock or whatever his name is.
  8. Yes, RGO frag grenade only spawns on UAZ vehicles. Its legit.
  9. So I've been playing Day Z for a little over a month and I'm starting to get a pretty good feel for the game. A few weeks ago, I decided I'd start keeping track of what routes I used to get various places and how often I encountered a player along the way. I put this together with loot maps, the experiences of other players, lots of youtube footage, common knowledge, and a fair bit of guess work, and came up with a map to use as a general guideline for where I was most likely to encounter another person. I've always been a solo player. No clans will accept me because I can't use voice chat (My sons crib is right next to my desk and I can only play quite late at night), so its always been a necessity for me to figure out how to survive on my own. So far the best way I've found to do this is non-confrontation, and an emphasis on survival when contact does occur. Unless I think a player saw me, or I think I am likely to meet them at my next destination, I let them pass. To date, I have never been killed by a player. However I always pay careful attention to where they are going and where they were coming from, and most importantly by what route they went there. This has given me a unique opportunity to notice trends in player movement and anticipate where I'm most likely to run into trouble, thus, this map. Unsurprisingly, most people stick to the trees and take the shortest route between to points that has consistent tree cover. Keep in mind, this is still just my opinion. I'd love to see other people add to this, I think something like this could be a very useful resource (as long as its not put out by the devs, which is obviously unfair and ruins a whole dimension of meta-gaming for day Z) if it were contributed to by competent players and experienced groups. I'll take all the suggestions on this thread every week or 2 and update the map accordingly if anyone cares. That said if your contribution is to call me an idiot because my map sucks, please post somewhere else. I know it sucks, it was initially for personal use, and I decided to add a legend and share it here for people who might be interested. If you aren't interested, that is fine, but I really don't need to hear about it. Anyway here it is -------------------- Resources Here's a bunch of my favorite resources for day Z (Many i'm sure you know already) http://dayzmap.info/ - Interactive map with loot probablity tables, very nice & fast. http://dayzdb.com/map - A very polished and comprehensive map with loot tables & even vehicles. http://dayzwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page - The day Z wiki! http://ttp2.dslyecxi.com/basic_rifleman.html - An enormous, comprehensive, and wonderful guide for the default game, ARMA II. It answers many questions you might have and offers a wide range of beautifully illustrated and well explained strategies that apply to Day Z. I recommend every Day Z player read this, excluding the parts which obviously don't apply to Day Z. ----------------- Tips, rules, and random observations. These are my rules for solo survival, take em or leave em. I added one every time I ran into trouble. The Rules: Rule #1 - NEVER RUN IN TOWN Rule 1A - Unless you've agro'd a zombie, then sprint for the nearest large building and attempt to shake/fight the zombies. Rule #2 - Engage any player who might be aware of your presence or location. In the event that this is not possible or is unsafe, make a stealthy retreat as soon as it is safe. Do not engage a player if it can be avoided. Do not approach the players body to loot if there is any doubt it can be safely recovered. Rule #3 - When combat with a group is inevitable, determine the existence/location of any possible overwatch/sniper element. If one exists, engage and destroy it with as few shots as possible, making a quick retreat out of the line of sight of the main group as soon as it is destroyed. Rule 3A - If close combat with a group is inevitable, IE in a town, attempt to sneak as close to the enemy as possible and intermingle with his ranks. They will often hesitate to fire to determine if you are friendly over team speak, giving you an advantage. This has saved my life more than once. Rule #4 - The hospital just isn't worth it man. Rule #5 - Cooked meat is King. Always have at least 4 cooked meat on you whenever possible. Replace canned foods with cooked meat as you build up your pantry. Rule #6 - Keep only one food & water in your main inventory, keep the rest in the bag. Rule #7 - Keep at least one pain pills in main inventory at all times. Rule #8 - Eat & drink before leaving any building which has food or drink that you cannot take with you. Rule #9 - Do not enter a building with a zombie in it. Just don't. Rule #10 - The further NorthWest you encounter a player, the more likely they are to be well equipped. Rule #11 - Small night time servers can be safe, but beware that these have a higher rate of players with Night vision goggles, which are obviously extremely dangerous. Rule 11A - Deploy FLARES to blind NVG users from very far away. Test showed good effect (quite good) up to 250m. For this reason flares take massive priority over chemlight (much less effect). Rule #12 - If you find a chopper location, take note of the server and the location. You can find out what server your on by holding the "I" key. Rule #13 - Examine any particularly thick or dense cluster of trees that cannot easily be seen through. You sometimes find tents and repaired vehicles in this area. This has been a very profitable practice. Rule #14 - Loot quality has an inverse relationship with player activity. The better the loot in an area, the more likely it is there is a player nearby. The worse/more sparse, the less likely you are to encounter someone. Rule #15 - Zombies can knock you out if you are below 9,000 blood. This is often fatal. Hunt for cooked meat to get above 9,000 blood before entering an area with zombies if it is at all possible. I'm sure there will be more rules to come, I'd love to see everyone else's rulebook :D. Tips: Here's some advice I offered to another forum I frequent, where many people including myself learned of DayZ and eventually decided to buy ARMA II for it. "Here are some quick tips: G opens your Gear (inventory). In your Gear list, the number to the Right of the item is the number of that item you have. The number on the LEFT of the item in your item list is how many are on the dead body/on the ground. That took me a long time to learn. When you are bleeding (indicated by the cross sign on your blood drop meter), open inventory with G, right click a bandage, and hit bandage myself. This takes a few seconds and fails when interrupted. You wont lose the bandage until you are successfully bandaged though. NEVER, EVER, EVER RUN IN TOWN! Z, X, and C are your stance buttons. Z is prone, X is crouch and C is stand. Always be in crouch or prone position when near anywhere that zombies spawn (like town). Press shift twice to switch your default movement from run to walk, then hold shift when you need to run. 95% of my deaths are traceable to having ran in town. If your screen is shaking badly, you are in pain. Take some painkillers and the shaking will stop. if you break a bone (broken bone icon on HUD) you'll need to take morphine (same as bandaging, right click in inventory) When starting you'll need a weapon. The following list is listed from Safest (at the bottom) to most profitable (at the top). These two things have an inverse relationship in Day Z, the more weapons and the better the weapons are in a place, the less safe it is due to player traffic. Barracks (very rare) Airfields Fire stations (have military grade loot for some reason) Chopper crashes (so rare to actually find one that there are almost never players around since almost no one knows where they are, i've only ever seen one) Deer stands (only one loot spot, not really worth checking usually since you can be seen from so far away while your in one/approaching one) Office buildings Barns (Best place to find weapons early on IMO, high rate of Winchesters/Enfields and unparalleled safety. The order of the day is to become 2 things: Self sustaining and deadly. To this end, you need a rifle, plenty of ammo, about 3-5 food items, 2 cans of drink and 2 refillable water bottles, 2 painkillers, 2 morphine, 4 bandages, night vision goggles, also preferably a map (GPS is so rare I wont even mention it), a hatchet, matches, and a knife. Once you have all of these things you can survive for extended periods in the woods, rarely having to go to town for anything. You can then hunt players who travel in the forests at night (Often in a dead sprint and paying no attention) for intermittent ammo, etc. You can refill your bottles at any lake or even the ocean, also at water pumps. You can hunt wild game for meat and chop wood for a fireplace with the ahtchet. The cooked meat refills a lovely 800 blood so you can use it to recover from a fight gone wrong. When you are being attacked by a zombie (If you see one approaching you with any kind of speed, its after you). Go into stand position and SPRINT AS FAST AS YOU CAN! NO matter how many other zombies you attract or how many players might see you. Run for the nearest semi-large building or building with only one entrance. Once inside take a knee and let the zombies come in. Zombies are forced to walk inside buildings and it is much easier to take them out in a bottleneck and walking than it is with them zig zag running around. NEVER EVER engage more than one zombie out in the open. If its only one zombie, sprint to where there are no other zombies, turn around and drop it very quickly. The goal with zombies is simple: Not one bite. One hit is enough to put you in a situation that could ultimately kill you." ----------------------------- I'll update my heatmap as I notice trends change and as other people offer advice or criticism on it. I'll update the rules as new ones come along or as other people post good ones. Of course that's assuming anyone cares (unlikely). -Lenny
  10. thanks for this, should mean some more vehicles around for newer players

    US233 Vehicle Spawns

It seems that your servers suffers from the usual virus: a small team has collected all vehicles and stored them off map. Until one or more vehicles are destroyed they will no longer spawn in the map. Yes, it sucks.

how to learn aiming / shooting

Armory is also very helpfull. You can train with vehicles, everything.
  13. No. When the game releases it will be wiped. Until then it's useless, people are restarting all the time -- If you want a spectrum of different level players for testing patches you will not get that by wiping people. What if the next patch adds a bug that makes it so when you turn on night vision goggles you get an extra pair in your BP? Or the server crashes? Forum warriors and PvE care bears are always after a wipe like it will make them better at the game -- "lets level the playing field guys it's so unfair!!". Guess what, you'll be getting sniped again within a day. Not all of the "super leet" gear in the game is from hackers or duping. Clans raided airfields and crash sites / worked together to get vehicles and used those to access more high loot areas and collect better items. It will happen again and you'll be getting shot again as you shuffle around with your torch. Rocket's well aware that this isn't just "any old alpha", the sales figures for Arma II went up by 500% and while he's free to do what he wants, he's not being reckless. That being said, everyone starting over would be a hilarious 10 minute scene. It would be like battle royal with everyone frantically running to buildings with their torches trailing zombies everywhere until someone finds a gun then doubles back to the beach...

Out of bounds item/vehicles cleanup [2012-07-06]

You don't need to be an ESP hack to find the tents on the map. Ask the people on US153, We've destroyed just about every tent on the map. Combing the forests is simple. Tents are harder to hide than vehicles. We've destroyed 200+ tents in the last few days on one single server. Finding tents deployed in forests is easier than finding one to deploy. You get a nice offroad vehicle and just drive around looking for them. I could find all the tents on a server quicker than someone could find a single tent in an area 10km2 next to my house. The only purpose tents serve on the map is to give free shit to people who don't deserve it.
  15. Now it's getting ridiculous, it is clear that someone just stored all vehicles somewhere off-map. Except for an old bike in 10 days we were unable to find any kind of vehicle. I sincerely hope that a meteor hits your camp, dear Mr-I-have-all-of-them. I hope rocket will be able to find a better solution for vehicles because there is totally no fun on having zero vehicles avaiable in a server because someone stored them all in hide. I agree that anyone can do whatever he wants with a vehicle but I feel like vehicles are being stolen from the server. Ah yes, I am mad at the moment. Well, actually this http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=29123 may help solve the problem.
  16. Lol at all the haters who don't like people hiding shit outside the map. People hide things outside the map (big inconvenience for the hider) because the game is alpha (broken mechanics) and there is no consistent system for protecting/hiding your shit on the map. You may have 10 people in your clan, and your ability to make sure your shit doesn't get jacked for the two hours you don't have anyone online is non-existent. Stop being haters, and find a perspective that doesn't involve, "Where'z all de vehicles? : ( " Game mechanics are what they are people do what they do to adjust to that. (and I'm just refering to people randomly finding your shit in the woods, not the rampant vehicle/player ESP hacking, or multiple hacked helicopters I see on nearly every server that flying around looking for people's shit. ^.^
  17. This won't do much to stop hoarding unless the inactivity timer for out of bounds vehicles is really, really short. Otherwise they're just going to cycle through their fleet of Cadillacs once a day to stop them from despawning. I'd say make them despawn if they're off the map for more than an hour or two, regardless of whether or not they're being used by players. There's absolutely no legitimate reason for players to take a vehicle out of bounds for that long.
  18. Vehicle Wipe ENGAGED!! All vehicles we had, *(NOT out of bounds)* Gone, oh well gives us a reason to go hunting for them again.
  19. NO - Totally pointless! Bugs like duplicate tents, vehicles stored off map, cities outside of the map, tents still losing loot, will still exist. So the problems will return and it will need another wipe. FIX THESE and I may agree to a wipe!

    My Suggestions for DayZ gameplay

now they are interesting suggestions but heres the reasons why not: 1. they fact they are broken, all of them IS unrealistic however its a game and we need something to work to, if we had vehicles so easily the whole mystry and determination to get one would really ruin the status and achievment of getting one. 2. Use cooked meat to get blood back, the reason they have done this IMO is to try and encourage teamwork without making it being to much of a draw back for lone wolfs
  21. you are clearly not meant to camp off the map. the map has a border for a reason. thats common sense now' date=' isn't it? so, building a camp of the map can be considered breaking a rule, like cheating. you can consider yourself lucky you won't be banned for it. or maybe you will o.O [/quote'] That is not a cheat at all as you don't fkin manipulate the game. What's wrong with you? Hacking, cheating, duping...its some fkin storage. Maybe it is breaking a virtual rule, I'll give you that. But it isn't a real border, is it? And what reason would that be? Maybe it is off-map now in some narrow minded persons view, but what would be the reasons to not make it "legit"? But I guess the righteous people win, who are knowing how this game is meant to be played... Sorry Kawa, but you're an idiot if you cannot see the benefits to game play as a whole by restricting these activities outside the map bounds. You're also an idiot if you think saving tents/vehicles outside of map bounds is a legit way to play the game. By your definition, if I'm playing a game of football, it's ok for me you take the ball and hide it in the parking lot.
  22. Izziee

    Items in vehicles are gone?

Guess where I had parked mine? That's right' date=' way up north, passed the fjord / river going inland from the coast, then back around, then more north or whatever you wana call it. Yes, people DO go up there, and a lot. I've found half of the vehicles up there. I actually don't park there anymore due to how many people go up there thinking like you. [/quote'] I see you failed to check out the link that I posted.. 3 things: First, you failed to quote and put it as though I said it. Second, I actually saw the link but no way I'm clicking random forum whiners link which is no reputable site Third, I see you failed to realise NO WHERE on the map is safe. If it can be gotten to by you, then someone else can and will go there. If they can't get there then you're exploiting and deserve to lose your stuff.
  23. Any argument AGAINST this, is just proof that too many people went far beyond what the devs told you to do, in order for you to play the way you guys want to. The argument that this makes it noob friendly: How so? Those of you who hide things in the barren, and far off parts of Debug plains, are stupid and trying to play cautiously as opposed to risking it by finding a proper, in-bounds hiding spot. Who is the noob now? I was walking along the border of the map, which does and always has existed, for a reason. I found three vehicles off in the plains beyond the border. What is the reason? Get the one, or two cars you need, don't hoard because you're a jackass. This is meant to be a survival game, and no, that does not mean everything will be realistic. Don't make an argument for realism. The Devs are making this game mode. They set the rules. They call the shots. Most importantly, if anyone knows how this game is intended to be played, it is them. Any arguments against that are those who don't want to follow their rules.
  24. So, I will just start of by saying I have only had the game for about two weeks and I love it as it is but i think a few things can be tweaked a little bit, now I know that it is only in alpha and the things I am going to say are not Bugs, My ideas draw towards more reality. this would be for REGULAR servers IMO. 1 - Vehicles that are found are not in need of repair to begin with, they may be locked thus needing you to break a window or obtain a lockpick to enter and (Hotwire) the car OR they may be unlocked and Empty or near empty on fuel, my reason for this is that how many cars in your city if a zombie outbreak were to take place would be just "Broken" - Now i can see people crying about this one but IMO this makes for a more reality driven gameplay experience . 2 - The ability for a player to play true "Lone Wolf" style gameplay, this game is fun both alone and with friends but there are limitations on how far a player can progress alone as in the blood effect, i know you can get blood back from food but i would like the option to use a blood bag on yourself rather than wait for a friend to log on or risk asking a survivor for help, now once again the very idea of a person giving another person a bag of blood to survive is not reality anyway so allowing someone to do this on their own is no big stretch. Now these are just my suggestions for a Regular server, Now these are not demands in order for me to keep playing, i love the game and will continue to play regardless, they are just my two cents, Please discuss and please dont just say "No way" if you want to shoot down my suggestions please give a valid reason. Cheers for reading my babble and i look forward to a good discussion.

Out of bounds item/vehicles cleanup [2012-07-06]

@DEV: need clarifications. The h24 thing is just for the first time (now), so you have 24h to save your stuff or you'll loose it. But then the stuff off-map will be cleared "immediately" (or randomly) even if used once within 24h right? Otherwise i may just leave an alt account there and use it to move those vehicles once a day.
