Has anyone built there own base yet?
Steins replied to cowdung's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yea, last clan I was in built two bases. First was Novy Sobor church - that place is like a fortress. Concrete walls around it with 2 entrances, stick barbed wire with two tank traps around the back and you're set with one way in, one way out. There's also a climbable tower nearby that you can put someone with a sniper on, so long as they're prone it's pretty hard to see them from far away. We put our tents in the main courtyard and there's also a water pump here. Not to mention stary sobor is a 5 minute walk away, we filled three weapons tents, one medical tent and one food tent within 3 days, seeing only one player (who was unarmed). Obviously you can't stay anywhere forever and some guys drove up in a tan sedan and all ejected, started unloading whilst no one was in the tower - we defended easily enough, however they threw a grenade and blew up our tractor. They didn't come back for days, until some other guys server hopped into our church and killed us all. I made a post about this. Off-Topic: I saw a guy with a silenced m9, coyote and AS50 sitting on a tower in cherno. I was LESS THAN A METRE AWAY so I started shooting but my akm bullets hit his rifle and bounced off, so I moved and shot him and he aborted. Fucking should've been my AS50. Rightful kill. WE NEED A LOG-OUT TIMER FOR WHEN YOU SHOOT/ARE SHOT. Second was the construction site (labelled as factory on the map) between Orlevetz and some other town to the north-west. Great little place, again, two ways in, first is a gate which leads to the main road, the second is a small hole in the fence that requires you to go prone to go through. I put barbed wire along there, hiding the sweet spot to make sure no one could get in or dismantle the wire. This left one way open, our clan was big enough that we put barbed wire around the entire construction site leaving the back-left stairway open. There's also a small pond around the back by the wall with the hole, for filling flasks. We parked our vehicles around the back near the walls so they couldn't be seen from outside and we set up our tents around the back, under some trees. Worked fine until I went rogue and killed my clan mates with a cz550. After I ran out of ammo,I dropped all my gear and just casually walked down the road towards them whilst in their Skype call and when one of them said "I see him, I've got a shot." I looked at the building and saluted. Man, that was fun. Too bad they didn't record it. -
Has anyone built there own base yet?
thecrackmuffin replied to cowdung's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
At one time my friends and I had a relatively large base consisting of about a dozen tents with barbed wire fortifications, and even a barbed wire parking lot for our vehicles. Due to fighting within the group camp was eventually disbanded, but while it was at its peak 'twas a sight to behold.... Assault rifles and mountain dew as far as the eye could see.... -

I found a camp of about 25 tents and 4 vehicles once. Not mine, just found it. -
Map supposed to show player?
jskibo replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
It will show you other players and vehicles within your visual range that have been spotted. It will also show last known for a bit after you "lose" contact. Simple as setting it on, via 1 in the settings. Map is on within both my servers -
if that thing about clans locking servers for ages to hoard ALL the vehicles is true then, you're dicks. literally worse than any bandit fucker. if you work together as a clan an manage to find loads of vehicles WHILE OTHER PEOPLE ARE ON then thats completely fair, you have earned them. but otherwise, fuck you immensely, how is that not cheating?

Change to ammo management/loot structure
Chutney replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I like this idea, I was about the make a post similar to this, with a few extra ideas. You should be able to find loose bullets as well as ammo boxes. For example, you can find a small amount loose bullets, say 1-8, that can stack up 25, then top of this you can a ammo box (ammo specific) that can hold 50 bullets, found with anywhere between 0 -50 bullets in it and it takes up one spot in your gear. The loose bullets can be loaded into the box to save space and/or then loaded into empty magazines. This idea could just be adding an extra level of nothingness but I feel it will give a greater range of items to scavenge for and add to the whole what to keep and what to drop dilemma. As for where to find loose bullets/ammo boxes/magazines I would suggest that you have a small chance of finding them around the destroyed military vehicles that are in most towns, as I could imagine soldiers dropping ammo/mags as they are frantically loading guns while being overrun. On the point of magazines you could have gun specific ones (Glock takes a Glock magazine with 9mm ammo) or calibre specific magazines of different capacity (9mm guns take Glock, M9, PDW and MP5 magazines with 9mm ammo) ? This last part is me just spit balling/rambling at the end of the post. -

My other adventure series was recorded over the course of about a week. Myself and my buddy Jason had an incredible amount of luck that started with the finding of a UAZ. Which turned into an epic adventure full of vehicles and camps and a bit of pvp action. Car Troubles and Camp Raids Part I Features include crawling through Krasnostav, re-killing the dead, finding a UAZ, and some tunes by yours truly. Car Troubles and Camp Raids Part II Features include refueling, driving, picking up the Gumbala, and driving.

Use this Map (Alt tab if you need to, second monitor is ideal) http://dayzdb.com/map#3.013.096 Keep respawning until you land in Kamenka. Head north, looting dear blinds on the way (shown on the map as red towers). Dear blinds will spawn three zombies each, and typically infront of the dear blind. Run far outside of the dead blind and come at it from behind, crawling if you need to. There is no reason to agro any of the zombies there, just be cautious. You can find some of the best items in the game at dear blinds as they are military loot spawns. Do not overlook Coyote backpacks 24 slots, which can be confused with the backpack you spawn with, 8 slots. Once you loot a weapon of any kind, hit up Zelenogorsk from the south west (easy entrace to the grocery store, shopping cart on the map). This should give you the food and drink you probably need at this point in time. Grocery stores are one of the best places to find everything you need outside of vehicle parts and military grade primary weapons including an Alice backpack and a sidearm (1911 or revolver being the best you can find). Loot the grocery store, and continue heading north to Pustoshka, looting dear blinds on the way. Enter Pustoshka from the west for direct access, again crawling to avoid agro. If at any point you get agro, run into the front entrance of the grocery strore (big glass doors) and shoot the zombies as they enter) At this point in time, you will likely have at least a primary and secondary weapon you can use to defend yourself, an upgraded backpack, most common utility items and enough food and water to at least sustain yourself for the time being. You comsume water faster than food so always load up more water than food. Wash, rinse and repeat. Healful tips: Scope out any building you are going to loot prior to coming within 300 or so meters from the location. If zombies are present, someone is likely there, and its better to simply move on unless you want a firefight. Use your side arm to kill zombies. Especially if you find a 1911 or revolver, its a one shot kill. They are quiet, and the ammo is fairly abundant. If you find yourself running low on ammo consistently with your side arm, try finding a 1866 wynchester (sp). They are very quiet and take down zombies in one shot. Only do this however if you do not plan on killing other players, as the effective range is relatively low compaired to assult rifles. Many ammo types are interchangable or combinable to be used in other guns. Do not be too quick to dismiss ammo if it does not immediately seem right for your gun. Other high loot locations within towns are churches, apartment buildings, schools, bar/hotel, large barns with stairs. Other loot locations are typically not worth the time. Avoid Cherno and Elektra always. There is nothing you can loot in either of those towns that you cannot find in deer blinds or in grocery stores. Zelenogorsk and Pustoshka, as well as most deer blinds are typically player vacant, and full of loot, while Cherno and Elektra are almost always spotted with a sniper, and other players gunning for your gear. Also, avoid Stary Sobor and the North West airfield unless you are looking for PVP. Follow this and you should have no trouble surviving for a long period of time and should also have no trouble find all of the gear you could want outside of vehicles and rare items like NVGs.

001-001 is the place for refueling vehicles, just behind the barn is an old rusty tank..

maybe some sort of heat signature could be given off by vehicles with the right euiptment people could locate the vehicles or track them down. this would also make people like clans who hoard them actually move them about so maybe some sort of satalite over the island or other type of detection. seen what others have mentioned already server owners or clans just getting all best crap then opening servers up pretty low tbh
-
I usually get shot when going into Elecktro. That is why I never go there except when I really need supplies. But I usually just camp in little buildings along the northern parts of the map. I can find enough raiding bandit and survivor camps in that area. It is quiet enough, if you find a good place. But bandits love it up there, as they can use vehicles to get around. So I just camp in that area, raiding camps, killing most all. I usually play alone, or with 1 or 2 others. We live up there. Just letting you know that area is a very good survival zone, if you play it right.

The best place to get vehicles are places people go for fuel that aren't big cities. I won't say where I go, but if you think about it no one with a vehicle is going to risk refuelling at Cherno etc.

Progress Saved??? and server options.
moosehugger replied to stasis (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
your gear is saved and you should have the same things on all the servers, as well as be in the same spot that you logged out from. Sometimes there are glitches or sometimes things are not saved purposefully since the game is in aplpha testing, but ive never survived long enough between play session to have this affect me. Note that tents and vehicles are not saved between servers. So if you have a car, it will only be parked where you left it on the server you left it on. So once you start getting really settled into a server make sure you make note of which one it is so you don't loose your vehicles and stuff (Assuming that no one takes them while your away) -
Grouping up already has huge advantages. If I want to lone wolf into stary I have a high probability of being murdered. But if I am in a group of three or more (even two in a pinch) I can have someone on overwatch on the hills above the military tents calling out zombie positions and giving warnings of survivor sightings. Plus to give a blood transfusion requires another player, and someone always breaks their leg without having morphine (I am the medic so I never have this problem constantly running around with at least four blood bags and four morphine shots if not more). You can tailor skill sets too, I am a brawler who does not mind having to respawn and loot the coast, while other players are cautious types who will set up bases and find vehicles but dislike going into the places frequented by survivors. If some players can not see the benefits to going in a group then they have not experienced this game in the way intended and are probably server hoping for loot or disconnecting to avoid danger. I am not complaining too much about those tactics (I will say it really bugs me when some little sissy logs off during a firefight but not the point), it just tends to dilute the need for cooperation.

We didn't have any satchels in our truck. I just spoke to Kevin, Kevin looted it once but was used to destroy a church a few mins later. So we've never had any satchels in our vehicles. Kevin is the only one of us that have looted a satchel.

Lots of barbed wire + tents (like, 15 of them?) multiple vehicles, sand bags in a small valley. Also directly east/west/north/south (don't want to give it away...) of a town... Wasn't hard to come across for me.
-
Interesting... I stumbled upon this camp last night. All the tents + barbwire were there, and three vehicles, all of which were undriveable. Thanks for the ammo and M249, though :D

Actually you can ban the guy above... I know the admins on that server. The reason why they got banned. First of all they have not been on our server before. But still they find our camp at first attempt. One of us find our camp all blown up, all our 20 vehicles destroyed, and trees were gone. Then he suddenly see some RDT guys. Our team gathers some of members and track them down, our members starts firing, all the RDT members are DC'ng. Since they used huge amount of extremely rare explosives (Probably spawned by RDT with hacks) The server needs a restart, after the server reset some of the items and vehicles are back in full condition. We decided to move the camp, then suddenly some of them are shooting at us in our camp. Some of us get killed, we regroup. We find them lurking around in our camp, we fire at them and kill some of them. Then suddenly there are 10 RDT people in the camp. Trying to kill the few of us left in the camp. Some of us have managed to get off the camp with some vehicles, they find us at some random place. We jump off the ATV, they do the same. There 2 or 3 of them. I shoot at one of them and injured one of the RDT. Then i get killed by one of them. And my friend manage to kill of of them too. Then suddenly some RDT people spawns behind him. We are far away from our camp, and they didn't have a vehicles except UAZ which 3 of them used to stalks us with. We think its kinda fishy that they suddenly come to your server, find our well hidden camp, blow it up with huge amount of explosives which is extremely rare for fun? Then suddenly shows up everywhere and know where we are all the time. They even found our new camp which is far far away from our old camp which is also well hidden. We find G36 and some others stuff in our tent, which prove they've already been in our new camp and dropped spawned weapons... We realize that these guys must be using hax since they're spawning weapons, teleporting and using maphack since they find us all the time. we also have found in our server logs that there been used scripts, like teleporting... So we've evidences in our server log that proves the OP and his friends are using hacks. We've recently banned 2 of them today, they will probably be global banned because they've used teleport. I logged in earlier today once again they were raiding us. I see them at the tents i shoot at them but miss, they DC which is against the server rules. Few mins later they both decide to re-log, i kill one of them. I walk around suddenly the second guy fires at me. The admin was just looking at the server log, and saw the teleport scripts were being used. And therefore they got banned for using hacks.

After reading some of the other threads, it is appearant that we are all pros at everything. Need to fix a car? I got it. Need a Doctor? Sure, I can do that, too. Oh! Look a helicopter! Yea, I pilot on the weekends... Suggestion: It can be randomly given or an option to choose(preferably an option as you do choose what career you have in life --and people will just spawn/die until they get what they want), but have a list of careers to choose from that would make since in a survival situation (aka your job before the world went to crap). All skills can be obtained over time/practice, but until skills are honed, the effects are limited or in some cases not available. Only one skill can be mastered, the rest could earn up to the expert level. average>skilled>expert>master --Just an example. Depending on what career you choose depends on how long it takes you to level up an opposing skill or may even disable other skills. (Doctor studies medicine, no way hes got a straight shot; or Chef cooks a mean meal, but can fix a car to save his life --no pun intended) Example: Chef- Cooked food heals more. Takes longer to become hungry. Cooks food fast. Has no chance of burning food. Vs. Average Joe- Will get hungry faster. Takes much longer to cook. Cooking food has a chance to burn. Over time, can get better at cooking, but can't become master. So, there is always a chance to burn food. NOTE: In this case, a system where the grade of food matters should be added and all canned foods should be heated before consumption. can of pasta(average), burnt meat(poor), cooked meat(excellent). Careers: Chef - Cooked food heals more. Takes longer to become hungry. Cooks food fast. Has no chance of burning food. Enables the ability to gut animals. Doctor - Can apply bandages faster. Enables the ability to give blood transfusions. Mechanic - Can repair vehicles faster. Enables the ability to repair engine and rotor (and fuel tank?). --everyone can replace a tire or put gas in a car Soldier(or Cop) - Can shoot farther and more accurate with any weapon. Also, more accurate when recovering from running. Reloads faster. Enables the ability to use the high end weapons at start. --Other professions require expert to equip say a M16, skilled to use a shotgun. Pilot - Enables the ability to fly. Longer to become thirsty(Years of flying has taught you to conserve drinking as to not urinate as much). Less fuel consumption while flying. --Pilots take quickest path and smoother turns while flying, those little extras save gas. NOTE: Some tasks are fine as is, so some of them would need to take longer as to provide a balanced benefit. Others currently take forever and would need to be faster as the skill increases. (Ex: Cooking speed is fine currently(I say expert level), increase the time so that the Chef career becomes desirable. Bandaging takes forever(average), reduce the time as this skill increases making the Doctor career more desirable. ETC.) Summary: This would promote teamwork as one skilled profession would rely on the skills of another. Also, would give players something to work at other than the current search and destroy (scavenging and killing). What do you guys think? Any other jobs need to make the list? Or perhaps an adjustment to the current ones? Keep in mind that there needs to be a balance to each and that I tried to give each career an edge that no one else would have.

Not that I mind losing gear in survival attempt, but.. what's really sad is that you spend hour collecting some stuff and then lose it to a cheater who respawns instantly on the same position you've killed him and spawns gear, weapons, vehicles, can see through the whole map location of every single player and every single tent. That's what very desperating... And losing gear due to bugs, zombie rushes, other fair players - pff who cares, that's Alpha mod of survival after all, collecting gear, surviving, stalking and looting that's the goal for now.

Player Emails Admin After Vehicle is Stolen By Admin, LOL
slepid replied to Gumpnstein's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
Retarded? I see NO fun with stealing others vehicles and giggling about it with an admin. That's just not right! More stupid to show dat moment when he's reading his mail! -
I do not understand why I would be banned. I have never hacked or anything at all. But it does seem to just be this server that kicks me. My groups vehicles and camps are on this server and like I said we all play together on it & have done so for weeks. Yet it is just me that can't get in.... In fact, I have never even played on that server without my friends. So there is no reason at all I should be banned from it.

Kick on Connecting on most but not all servers
Vipeax replied to aceshooter11's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Markers are usually used to spawn items like weapons, crates or vehicles upon. Generally speaking I'm sure your friend will know, even if he doesn't want to admit it, which is also why I think I consider this dealt with, for obvious reasons.
