    Vehicles: Just a Myth Nowdays

Yesterday: Found a UAZ in the middle of the road. Drove it around, put gear in it. Today: UAZ was respawned due to server issue. Lost M24 and assorted gear. Shrugged and moved on. Vehicles are already fairly common, especially since out-of-map camps started getting wiped. You will find vehicles, you will lose them. Vehicles aren't game-enders, they're just game changers. Wanna go raid NWA? Well, driving in guns blazing is now an option for your group. Want to start a taxi? Option. Having a vehicle doesn't automatically make you a god-stomping bandit who leaves a trail of destruction in your wake.

    US177 admin irony

I understand and thats the same thing we face when we play. yall are the first group we have come across that hasnt done it to us in the 2 weeks the server has been up. I really hate i missed the second battle, from what i hear it was pretty intense. oh and btw we do not have but one vehicle if it is still there aint seen it in a long time. We did have 3 but we suspect some other group has been hording them. Me and another guy ran up on a camp with one of our stolen vehicles with 4 players there.
  3. The funny thing is i've played for like a week and have had problems where our vehicle's don't show up on reset and have asked the admin to restart and he's always done it and been a nice guy about it. And then yesterday the great Server Name Change DayZ of Chaos happened and spent like 3 hours trying to figure out what server it was changed too finally found it logged in checked my vehicles and went hunting for a bit then I logged out, tried to log in a couple hours later and I was banned. Edit: The Server is now not online, will the admin get in any trouble for say changing the name to something I couldn't find? Or maybe its just offline lol

    Barbwire

Yeah, im a fan of the wire. Don't remove it, Dont do anything to it. Whoever said finding a toolbox has a point, if there is a cumbersome set of wire, just take it down. Toolboxes are fairly easy to find. All 12 of my teamates have one, and we refuse to server hop...So, weve had to find replacements along the way. Check industrial buildings. That being said, wire fencing as it is called in game, (looks a lot like concertina wire to me) is intensely damaging to personnel, and vehicles realistically. Its razor wire, not barb wire. Why can I drive right through it, and flatten it like a tent, and why can I vault over it. When conceretina wire is driven through, it wraps around a vehicle, and shreds the tires, it has the potential to disable tracked vehicles if spaced properly and emplaced correctly. It also has the ability to become a pull behind mess of razor wire capable of ensnaring personnell as it passes them. So why does a GAZ roll right over it. Army doctrine used to state that in order to cross a roll of concertina wire, a plank must be used to throw down on top of it, compressing the wire, in order for troops to cross. same for fenced wire. This could be an AWESOME mechanic to put in game. Maybe Arma 3 could see some good uses of concertina wire. I'd throw a vote for changing these mechanics.
  5. Bridges and docks dont work well with the ATV, and vehicles in general. You often crash trying to cross a bridge on an ATV and thus you can often find one at bridges and docks. Finding it 3 times at the same location is just really lucky i guess.

    Vehicles: Just a Myth Nowdays

My friends and I have found about 6 vehicles. Bus, Car, 2 Bicycles, Motorcycles, 2 Tractors, Pickup Truck x 2....They are VERY scarce indeed though.
  7. I could take a screenshot when I try and log in, it tells me I'm banned for vehicle hoarding. The funny thing is we had two other vehicles a red and a white car that wasn't needed or used so we blew the red car up and gave the white one away. I'm literally giving vehicles away because I didn't want to hoard them.

Agree or Disagree? Why we kill...

Oh, absolutely. I've been an EVE Online player for quite a few years and I'm familiar with the need to rebalance things from time to time. But I don't think the problem is what you think it is. The PVP in DayZ is very enjoyable and probably one of its strong points. Any sort of discouraging/punishment of what you perceive as pointless PVP, is only going to hurt an important facet of the game. Now, what the game is missing, is conflict drivers for the geared up players. Once you reach a certain point in your ingame life, you have the tools you need to survive forever in the forest. You have your favorite PVP gun, and a pack full of stuff for "emergencies". Now what's left? What reason would you have to PVP except the thrill of it? That's what we are seeing. The only thing filling in as a conflict driver right now are vehicles. And let me tell you, the vehicle ambushes I've been involved in have been awesome. But then, if the vehicle even survives the fight (and I'm at a 33% survival rate myself), what did you win? They are not really that useful, and having multiple vehicles is usually a waste. TL;DR: It's not that people are killing each other for the wrong reasons, it's that there's no right reason to kill each other once you reach a certain point. But killing each other is fun, so we do it anyway.
  9. I play on this server along with my 3 roommates and one other real friend. We have 4 vehicles and they are all located ON the map where other people could easily steal them along with our large amount of gear. I don't feel I deserve this ban as i'm not cheating in any way. Thanks in advance. Also I'd like to note that my roommates have not been banned from this server.
  10. I normally don't agree with the "go back to cod you handhold-needing crybaby" people but what you're saying, other than zombie zigzagging which is pretty bad, is mostly just "make the game easier" Vehicles should respawn after a couple days of not being used, though. The problem isn't a low spawn rate, the problem is people finding the vehicles and hoarding them in tent cities at the very north of the map. An hour in Cherno or Elektro will yield everything you need to live off the land and kill zeds and players. Starting items isn't that much of an issue since it's easy to lose zeds if you're anywhere near a town.
  11. The title might be misleading but i didnt want it to be too long. what i meant was " What i think should be changed in future patches " this is only my opinion, and i,m putting this out there, just to see if i,m the only one that has this opinion. 1. zombie...zigzagging... nuff said 2. Higher loot rates, i believe there used to be that, but it were taken down a bit. i think they should take it up again, i,ll have to check halfway through cherno to find anything else than empty whiskey bottles and tin cans. 3. vehicles less rare... i understand that they should be rare in a game like dayZ... but they are TOO rare... please, just make em' spawn once ever 3rd or 4th town, rather than once or twice on the entire map. 4. GIVE US BACK OUR STARTING ITEMS... This, does NOT cooperate well with nr. 2, seriously... i can live with low loot rates, and i can live without starter items. but both!? Its to hard to start up again once you've died now. 5. Millitary weapons spawn rarely in residential/industrial areas aswell... instead of just the 5-6 millitary spots in entier chernarus... again, this was just MY opinion, if you didnt like it please just go away from this page. if you agree'd with me, on any, or all of these, please tell me in the comments :)
  12. Many servers have recently been renamed to conform with standard naming conventions. If you can no longer find your regular server because you know it as (e.g.) "Seattle 46" and not the host name there is an easy way to find it. This can be disheartening to people with tents / vehicles that think their server is perpetually offline. First, google "seattle 46" day z "Hosted By" obviously, insert your server in place of seattle 46, but make sure the quotes are the same as I listed. Don't click on any links, but in the results, you'll see a list of the cached information for your server whose name has recently changed. For instance, gametracker.com search result says something to the effect of: "Seattle 46 (v1.7.1.1) dayzmod.com - Hosted by The Begotten 216.244.82.90:2332 - ARMA 2 Server" The host name in this example is "The Begotten". Alternatively if the ip information is available you can use this if the following steps fail. Then, visit http://www.gametrack...m/search/arma2/ and type in your host name. You should see the new server name (e.g.) "US 662" in the search results. An additional tip: If "i" doesn't work on your server, you can still find out what server you're on - or the server you just d/c'd from by going to http://www.gametrack...y=online_player and searching for your in-game name. It updates about once every 3-5 minutes or so, so there's not much time to do this! "Don't shoot me, is all I ask." -Daxon

is there even a point in going to nw airfield?

NW airfield is definitely worth it. After all, the primary goal of this game is to have fun. If all you do is play it safe then you are just killing time. But raiding the NW airfield, especially when there are lots of people on the server, is a great time. That said, you should behave reasonably. Use cover when it's available even if it takes longer to get where you want to go. I like to circle around the entire airfield and approach the tower and fire station from behind. If anyone is camped in there I can kill them. From there, I make my way to the hangars making sure to scan the area with my binoculars to see if any snipers are visible. Since Gillie suits don't work right now that job is made easier. It's best to go to the airfield with a group. One person as sniper and overwatch, two assault weapons, and at least one suppressed weapon to take out zombies. One guy checks the loot while the rest set up a perimeter and keep an eye out for bandits (bandits are anyone who are not you and your group). I also recommend not bringing your best gear and come with your backpacks empty. That way you can get more stuff and decide what you want to keep later. One important thing is to not stick around. Get what you want and get out. Worry about trading clips and equipment later on. Safety is the primary goal here. And last of all, try to find out when the server restarts. Some servers reboot every 160 minutes and others do it once a day. If you can find out when that restart happens you can show up at that time grab the prime loot and get out quick. All loot, vehicles, and helicopter crashes respawn when the server resets (except for saved vehicles).

    Vehicles: Just a Myth Nowdays

Myself and my friend have found over 6 different vehicles since the tent wipe, never seen one before and I had been playing for around 3 months prior to that.

    Vehicles: Just a Myth Nowdays

It won't take you more than 40 minutes run across the map from corner to corner, if you plan your route and don't get shot at or meet other players.... (path of least resistance) The distance is about 20km.... Which means you run at about 30km/h..... dafuq? Who needs vehicles? But no, working cars or anything would be extremely hard to find in a post-apocalyptic Russia But an ATV being the equivalent to a mobile tent is kind of silly.

    Build 1.7.2 Rolling Update

It is a weapon that doesn't fit this game/mod ... it's like saying: let's introduce the tanks or even nukes .. they are vehicles and weapons after all, but they will heavily unbalance the game, this is why i hope the L85A2 will stay out. PS: before you reply i had the weapon (pre 1.7.2) and i admit it was OP, especially when played in team: two guys with thermal to spot players and others to snipe em.. almost unbeatable.
  17. Ok, so the map is a 225km² soviet society and have 1 vehicle for 10 m² and theyr not working even if i try to fix it, so why i need to fix vehicles that i find over a 400m tall mountain? Super zombies went there, destroyed half of them and stole the engine to make me go down to the city and look for an engine part intact inside a infested industry, just a lie man, over 20 thousand ppl are playing dayz every day. cars would b more efficient if abundant, engine parts ,wheels and fuel tanks are hard to find, now survivors spawns at the beach with no way to travel the rest of the map, good quantity of vehicles on streets of cities like cherno and elektro and other towns and villages would make the game only more dynamic and realistic. My Suggestion, make vehicles less op but more abundant, less gas tank capacity ( real ones, 30l for atvs and jeeps,40 to 50l for cars and pickups and up to 100l to a bus, less inventory slots inside vehicles, 50 itens,10 weapons slots and 2 bag slots inside an atv? thats magic man, this game is a zombie apocalypse rpg, its suppose to aproach to reality. Vehicles are just a legend in dayz, if u have one u dont need a camp, u dont need personal inventory, u dont need nothing more, just travel and kill other survivors and zombies collecting everything and stocking on it, its like u just won the game, if u lost one (whats not hard when u are driving an atv or motorcycle and other bugged vehicles) u just stop playing the game (the time u will stop playing depends what was ur vehicle and what u had inside it, (personal experience)) It would just make the game more dynamic, exciting and realistic if we could find cars more often. PS: Sorry for the bad english.
  18. Neat idea, would be good for loading up vehicles

    Eliminate M107 and AS50

I would definitely like to see a change in the frequency of military-grade equipment, depending on the intended 'backstory' to who your character is (i.e. just some Joe Schmoe civilian fighting to survive, or scattered military personnel fighting to survive). Your everyday civilian wouldn't know the proper procedures to load, maintain, or properly control a M240 or M249. Your everyday military member wouldn't know how to start, maintain, or even fly a helicopter. But that's just a thought. Realistically though, I'd like to see more emphasis on pistols, rifles, shotguns, maybe even more melee weapons. Make optics something that you'd have to find and attach to a (obviously appropriate) weapon, so that that rare AS50 or M107 that you do find may have had it's optics busted off, adding just one more step to justify it's top-notch killing power. (I'd also like to see the Winchester converted back to a .45 carbine, but add a new lever-action shotgun, and make all shotgun rounds interchangeable...) I believe that the issue with so-called "overpowered" weapons is as good as it will get at this time. and that removing weapons would be a step in the wrong direction. The reason the AS50 and the M107 exist in the game is because they exist in real life. "Why would you need the M107?" Why not? It's not designed to be used as a one-shot, one-kill rifle, it's designed to disable vehicles. Whatever someone chooses to do with it, though, is their choice. If they went through hell and back to get an M107, they sure as hell would want to use it however they choose. Consider this: A pocket of survivors set up an overwatch on top of a building and lie in ambush for a bandit vehicle to come rolling down the highway. Poor little vehicle is met by two well-placed shots by the M107 to disable it, while one or two others with scoped rifles pin down/eliminate the bandits. Reason for disabling the vehicle and not just blasting the driver? So that some sneaky bandit can't make a 'quick' escape in the vehicle, or take it on a suicide run into your camp. Once the bandits are dead, you send your little clean-up crew to 1) scavenge the bodies for supplies, 2) repair the truck, 3) bring it back to your camp. OR, if you want to be a bandit, then just swap instances of survivor and bandit. Now you have a scenario where a group of organized bandits ambush a survivor truck and steal their stuff. However you want to look at it, these "overpowered" weapons are just weapons. They don't make you invincible, they don't win the game for you, they don't ruin the game for everyone that doesn't have them.
  20. Are you kidding? I hope so. lol If you want the "more to offer" just play the game, not the DayZ mod. Arma2 is an amazing game and LOTS IS offered, military combat both big and small, all the vehicles and weapons etc. There are massing RPG servers. There are coop servers, there are RTS style gameplay elements on the Evolution/CTI modes. If you bought Arma2 to play the DayZ mod it's awesome too. But DayZ is what it is. If you want the rest, check out the actual game you bought.
  21. How this would actually work. Deathmatch bandits from other servers would join the easy mode server and kite 30+ zombies towards easy mode server players. Without the ability to kill the DM bandit the easy mode player would die by zombie. DM bandits from other servers will come to easy mode server to find vehicles, call out friendly and offer free rides, fill the bus full of easy mode players and crash into a building. BOOM. Everyone dies. Hackers will still come to easy mode servers and nuke everyone. That's just three ways to kill people without using a gun. OPs idea would only create easy places for bandits to gather up hassle free gear if these servers were not separate from the main game. If you think alt-f4ing and ghosting is bad now, wait until they have a safe server to jump to.

    An-2 Colt (Large Biplane)

+1 for the plane I have read so many different ideas of new vehicles, guns and functions on this board but the AN-2 is the first one which fits in perfectly. Needs to be part of the game in the future.

    Admin Abuse US 465

oh the tinfoil hat is strong with you mr publord. no tents and vehicles spawning after several restarts. server has been being restarted all day to fix the problem but ofc your entitled to your invalid opinion .dont like that i kick you so that you dont lose all your kit to the wilderness. fine next time i see you and your scrub friend on and a restart is needed i wont try to prevent your noob asses from losing your makarovs and beans play on another server if you like a wilderness spawn every time a restart has to happen. and btw i kill other players seems kind of odd that i would want no other players on right ?
  24. Rabbican

Pvp, Too much of it nowadays?

PVP is what makes the game interesting and dynamic. Are you telling me your aspiration is to live in the woods hunt and drink from a lake after you have all the gear you can get. If for some reason they did disable a friendly fire mechanic.... I would just close doors on people or run them over with vehicles.
  25. Booker (DayZ)

A few questions, thinking of buying this

If you leave the game your items are saved, and you do re-enter in the location you logged off. Vehicles will stay on the server they were found on, there is no way to transfer them across servers. The character you play will always be saved unless you die, if you die you must start again. When you log off your character will not deteriorate in any way, shape or form. You will be as hungry/full as when you left and you health will be the same. There is nothing you need to unlock in this game, everything is found through searching different loot locations which are scattered across the map and categorised into different loot types, generally this means you will find weapons/ammo in military places, clothes etc in residential and car parts in industrial for example. The loot is randomly generated and it's up to luck to determine what you find. A word of advice would be, to never get attached to you gear but to make the most of that gear while you have it, because you will die during this game, you'll die a lot to countless different reasons. Also, this game is in it's alpha state, this means there will be bugs and you need to be aware that they will happen to you. Other than that, this game evokes a lot of emotion and really does immerse you into it instantly. You won't regret buying the game. HAVE FUN! EDIT; p.s never tell anybody you have beans.
