  1. Hello guys, Last days I played with a friend on the US344 server and we found alot of shit. We got some nice vehicles and weapons. Like 1 hour ago I killed a guy named "Unknownplayr" near Stary Sobor because he had an ATV and alot of nice weapons. In his ATV were like 5 weapons, alot of Jerry Cans and some other stuff. Like 10 seconds after I killed that guy, his body wasn't even there anymore, me and my friend got the message "no message received for .. seconds". We aborted, checked the server list and the server was offline. I'm convinced that this guy was the admin of this server and he didn't want to lose his vehicle and tents, so he was smart and took down the whole server. Is that possible to track? Because I lost a tractor, motor, ATV and alot of shit because of this server. Thanks in advance, Wietse Edit: Is it possible to change the server name in some minutes? Maybe he changed the server name and its already up now.

    Zombie Soldiers

So I've been wondering, why are there loads of shot up military vehicles if the military were are the only ones with guns? Did the zombies take up arms (and by that I mean weapons, not arms that just fell off) or did the mil get infected and shoot each other? If they did get infected, why aren't there military zombies with guns, like the ones in STALKER? Would you think a zombie randomly taking pot shots at you among the other chaos is a good idea?

Wierd FPS drop / Screen freeze

Yeah, I have been having this lately too, it seems to be server specific. For debugging, if you look at the ocean (haven't tested with ponds), it seems to be glitching its animation in sync with the sutters... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=riKlTw-B4_M&feature=youtu.be I suggest moving server until you find one, that is smooth. Unless you have vehicles, I suppose.
  4. I don't think so. Infact, everytime I restart my server, we must lost our vehicles! Yes, vehicles update data to Hive DB. But must not synchronous, and must have other problem.

    Vehicle Hoarding Suggestion Fix

As long as the camps outside the map boundaries are cleaned up regularly, I don't see the problem with hoarding. Vehicles inside the map will always get stolen sooner or later.

    How rare are NVGs?

BS detector is WAAAAAY off the charts. If you have so many people, that just means you'd need to find that many more. I seriously hope that when they confirm the duplication exploits as fixed, they reset all inventory, tents and vehicles. Then the duping clans won't have a mysteriously standard, ultra rare item load out. Then they won't act like some kind of scavenging badasses. I would guess that almost none of the night vision goggles out there were found on "natural" spawn points. They are considered more of a status symbol than their usefulness. It's a point to brag about. But having multiple people in a group that have them? Bullshit.

    Vehicle Hoarding Suggestion Fix

One thing I will say is, stick to the same server. You're much more likely to come across vehicles then. Try going into the woods NE of the map. Usually some retard who thinks that's a good hiding place for his car.

    Vehicle Hoarding Suggestion Fix

We didn't hack any vehicles into the game at all. If your playing with a group it's much better as there a more eyes searching. A couple examples of where I've found vehicles: Found a blue van west of kranastov at a farm in the woods, end of a small dirt road. ATV's always spawn on Klen mountain and Black Lack. Although they are super risky and not worth the effort of repairing as they spontaneously blow up. Found a bus up north of black lack filled with supplies - obviously a player/group left it there. Found a military truck on the east side of the mountain overlooking the Polana Factory. It had a red engine so I assume it's owner was in the factory searching for parts. I relieved him of this burden :) Found white off-road on the side of the road just north of Polona factory. Hactch back near a small shed just north of myshkino. Don't give up, you'll find them soon enough.
  9. UXFaz, yes I know that's an exploit, and I got killed yesterday by d/c-Player. Shot him, he was away, I ran my old direction and got shot by him from behind. NVG + Rangefinder for him.. yey.... The problem ARE the rules like you said from May. It's like laws. When your government does not set new ones, the old ones are active. Right? Normally BattleEye should do the cheat/hackdetection, or some dev-teammembers analyzing the logs, but it seems, that you didn't and kicked by suspicion. Excuse my English and some rage please, but I had bad experiences with admins we killed ... or admin's vehicles we have stolen.

    Vehicle Hoarding Suggestion Fix

Hoarding is part of the sim. It's a valid survival tactic. Vehicles are a rare find, and often need to be repaired. I think if someone goes through the trouble of finding one, and goes through the trouble of finding parts and fuel, they should be able to keep it as long as they can hide and guard it. As long as they keep it within the map borders - if you go beyond the treeline, as far as I'm concerned the thing should instantly explode. They have to save the vehicle to don't they? The first few weeks I played I thought vehicles were a myth. Never saw one in any state of repair. But within the last two weeks I've seen : two boats - one out of fuel and the other I died before I could check one bicylce - functional one truck - fuctional and fully repaired one tractor - functional and fully repaired

    [DayZMod] The Dayz Statistics thread!

I don't see why everyone is crying about heat maps. He's going to take the info from a bunch of servers/the main hive, and then turn it into colors on a map. It won't show exact positions and it won't show tents, vehicles, or current locations of players. The fact of the matter is, unless you have a giant clan and are operating the same camp site on multiple servers, it likely won't show up on the heat map that much. You have to remember that the map is made as an average, and isn't very precise either. It's going to be colored rings, not specific blobs that follow the exact path of a single player. In fact, the heat map would help everyone. It's a bit of a mind fuck, but imagine this; You see your camp is in a heated location across all servers. You're going to move it away from that spot, and thanks to this map, you'll know where a nice cool spot is. But of course (unless the map updates instantly), there's a very small chance that survivors and people actually go through the cool spots on the right server to find you. If this is the situation, suck it up and actually stay close to a heated spot. If there was some hidden place close to Cherno, I would use that as my camp, just because it's less likely to be found.

    Vehicle Hoarding Suggestion Fix

A very valid point, would 12-15 hours sound fine? That would allow someone who plays regularly to keep their vehicle and prevent the forgotten vehicles. The groups of vehicles would have to be implemented to keep multiple cars just chilling and people logging in to save them. A group of friends and I have only seen 1-2 actual spawned vehicles. The ones we come across are in groups of 3-4 in the middle of the woods after spending hours searching. I feel like vehicles being in cities would draw more users to the cities.

    Vehicle Hoarding Suggestion Fix

The vehicles are a lie. I haven't seen one, repairable or otherwise, for weeks. I've seen, total, a couple of boats, one bicycle and a broken down bus- since I started playing in early May. I'm always amazed hearing people talk casually about having many vehicles. It has led me to formulate conspiracy theories about server admins and clans.
  14. Something I've noticed while playing Day Z, is that you really can't trust anyone. Hell, I wouldn't even trust me. The beautiful thing about Day Z is that we are free to do whatever we want, and unfortunately due to human nature and the current "mechanics" of the game this means kill everyone and be an asshole to weaker players. I'm not saying that this is a problem, I love the added survival aspect of the game, getting loot, avoiding zombies, and avoiding the bandits. The problem, as I see it, is the rampant banditry. There is absolutely no incentive to not kill the stranger you see off in the distance. Why even try to communicate when you risk death and betrayal, when you can just shoot them and loot their hard-earned gear? On top of that, there's no risk either, no downside, no consequence. As I understand it, the bandit skins were implemented to try and stop this, but was removed because Rocket said it left, "a bad taste in his mouth." He also added that, "I'm sort of just leaving it 'as is' at the moment in the hopes that things spontaneously solve themselves or a better approach comes along." Well I'd that he was on the right track, he just didn't hit the mark. (Yes, I've done my homework). It's been two months, and the game has changed. The general consensus is Shoot on Sight, and therein lies the problem. Now before I explain, let me say that I love the design of Day Z. I love how it has nothing to do with making money, I love how most of the gameplay is left to the players to decide, and I love how it's like an anti-game compared to most games today. I never want to see the game have a money system, achievement system, tutorial, F2P with micropayments, or ANYTHING REMOTELY ASSOCIATED WITH THE CRAP WE HAVE TODAY. I want the game to stay as it is, run by the players, decided by the players and that is why I'm making this suggestion. There is no cooperation of survivors anymore, it's team up and kill or die alone. Everyone is a bandit, whether they want to be or not, there is simply no distinction between the two factions. A game that is in a perfect position to become something amazing is turning into a free-for-all deathmatch with zombies. Not everyone wants to kill, but there is just no choice. The incredible psychological human element to the game that drew so many of us in has effectively eliminated any chance of cooperation. If someone says that they are friendly, the first thing that goes through your mind now is, "Is he just going to shoot me anyway when I come out?" Likewise, the other person is probably thinking the same thing. In the end, both will come to the conclusion that they would rather kill than be killed. The factions that I'm talking about are, the people who play the game to kill others, and the people who play the game to survive and make Day Z fantastic. What do I mean by fantastic? I mean I want to see true cooperation going on between survivors. I want the bandits to be seen as the "bad guys" that they've chosen to become. I want to see survivors organizing taxi services with vehicles and buses, rescue parties with helicopters, unofficial guards for major cities. I want them to chase the bandits to the northern hills and desolate plains where they belong, a true faction vs faction war. So here's my suggestion: Bring the bandit skins back, but do it differently. Only make a survivor don the bandit skin when they shoot first (discontinued idea, see below). Do this on the first kill, no exceptions. If you choose to shoot first, the consequence is that you get a bandit skin. Now for the bandit skin itself, make them noticeable! Add a red headband on them, give them some sort of marking that doesn't go away, even when they wear a ghille suit. Now add "Bandit Kills" to the debug screen. See what I'm getting at? Bandit kills are now a good thing. It's good to kill bandits, hunt them down. Band with other survivors and scavenge the hills for those scumbags. The ultimate consequence for killing someone: you're going to become a prime target for survivors. Not only does this add realism (Isn't that the main selling point of the game?), but it provides the perfect balance to the coop vs pvp aspect. You don't sacrifice either or, you just add to the existing mechanic. This also keeps the hands-off approach to Day Z that's made it so wonderful, there's no "Pick a faction" screen, it's just another realistic part of the simulation. This also allows players to decide which way they want the game to go, do you want cooperative survival, or do you want all out PVP deathmatch? If everyone really wants to kill each other, the world will be full of bandits. If coop is the way to go, then bandits will be running scared. This gives you the unique opportunity to literally fight for your game. The easiest way I can summarize this is: Want to kill? Kill someone and be a bandit, join your bandit friends. Want to survive? Stay a survivor, help others in need and if you die, another survivor will take care of you when you respawn. Want to survive and kill? Stay a survivor, hunt them dirty bandits down. So in conclusion, a simple way to keep banditry, and the coop survival of Day Z together and balanced while adding fun and maintaining the Day Z spirit. Thanks for reading. PS Rocket, as for keeping skins, I'm sure there's a way to allow skins for both sides and make it visibly obvious which side they belong to. If you'd like a suggestion, send me a PM! Obviously this is just a starting idea, and I just wanted to get the ball rolling. Please point out any holes and such, and I will address them as best I can. This idea can work, there is no hole that cannot be patched. That's excellent, I hadn't thought of that yet. The most basic rule of this that I'd like is that nobody will ever be labeled incorrectly. My first thought to solving this would be a complicated solution involving scripting and such, but I'm sure a much more simple alternative is there. I'm tired right now, but I'm more than happy to take a look at this later. Again, this could all be solved with a simple "Bandit or Survivor" screen at the beginning of the game, but that would be taking the easy way out and striding away from the Day Z spirit. If anyone has an idea, please speak your mind! Nothing about this discourages bandits, it merely discourages rampant, needless killing and a complete lack of cooperation. Besides, bandits right now aren't really bandits, they don't even trust each other. They're groups of friends running around laughing as they kill strangers. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that (I do it too, it's fun, so sue me) but it shouldn't be the main part of the game. Thank you for reminding me, this doesn't necessarily have to include the shoot first idea, the problem with a lot of ideas is that they start with one thing and then tunnel vision into oblivion. If someone would like to start thinking of a different approach to the identifying killers, please do and post! I stopped reading here. There is no "bandit problem". It's a post-apocalyptic survival game, with very few humans left and everyone struggling to survive. Of course people are shooting others, because everyone is a threat. There are no more laws, no more witnesses, all is left are dangerous zombies and scarce weapons to defend yourself. Find a clan, get their trust and play with them. That's what I do and when we meet another player he runs for his life. I stopped reading here. It shows that you did not join this thread with any intention to give an idea a chance, you just joined to argue against the idea you thought it was. In fact, you even admit that you stopped reading, before the real reading began. (lol) Read the entire post and realize that what I'm suggesting does not conflict with your current gameplay. There is no "bandit problem," I agree, the problem is that there is no reason not to be a bandit. Not running towns, but helping each other survive. I'm not talking about clearing cities of zombies and installing a mayor (ugh), I'm talking about makeshift 'services' to help your fellow survivor. A group of survivors patrols Cherno to keep it safe for their fellow man, greets newbies and gives them essentials. I read something about a guy going around as "The Doctor" and he had an entourage of people who protected him as they went server to server helping people, that sounds amazing! A group of people organize a bus that goes along the main road on the beach to give free rides to people. The possibilities are endless and it's all limited by the fact that nobody wants to work together and help eachother survive in the zombie apocalypse. Even without the bandit skin idea, raising the difficulty a ton would work as well. Making it so nightmarish that banding together is the only way to survive would be a good way to stop reckless killing. Again, I just want to get the ball rolling, I'm not saying my idea is the best one out there. I'm much more in favor of a karma system now that I think about it, although I think loot chances are way too game-y for Day Z and implementing that would be much harder than a conventional MMO due to the way items are spawned. I love the idea of people in between keeping the tense, "Do I trust this person?" while giving truly good survivors the chance to help people.
  15. Before patch 1.7.2, I was on day 31. Haven't logged in since then. Private servers can be such fun  I play safe either alone or in a large group. I rather avoid firefights then start one. No rushing into towns. Never been to NW after i got all the gear i 'needed'. Usually i play duo. Small enough to stealth, large enough to use basic tactics. We hoarded vehicles, i flew choppers, now im just roaming the wilds hoping to find highend tentcities (and dispose of them after i looted ammo/food).
  16. I ask because I've hidden two vehicles on two different servers far out of bounds, and thus far it's been 3 days and they still haven't been despawned. I decided to undertake this little experiment after my attempts at combing the woods for a few days beforehand failed to find a single vehicle. I've a feeling a lot of people realize the 6 hour despawn timer isn't working and are still hiding stuff out there.

    Vehicle Hoarding Suggestion Fix

3-4 hours is way to short. People have to sleep and work at the very least. However I do agree with the overall message. I myself have had camps of 4-5 vehicles with only 1-2 being used regularly.
  18. chumney

    Vehicle Hoarding Suggestion Fix

Got any ideas on how to cut out hoarding? Maybe the timer only initiates if two or more vehicles are within 400m of each other. This would keep your vehicle safe, but your parking lot would get wiped out recycling the vehicles back into the server population instead of 2-4 people.

    Vehicle Hoarding Suggestion Fix

I'd like to keep the vehicles I found, thanks.

    Vehicle Hoarding Suggestion Fix

maybe because people like having non-exploded vehicles when they wake up the next morning...
  21. I heard a rumor that smaller map was being worked on for DayZ, and I thought to my self why would that be required? If there were more vehicles, heck not even more just available. Not stashed in the woods not being used 75% of the time then the map wouldn't be so isolated. Rocket is implementing a map border explosion to deter those camps outside of the map. Why not add a timer to vehicles that when not used for more then 3-4 hours they explode, and lower the spawn time from a week to maybe 1 day. This would ensure people hoarding 5-6 vehicles and leaving them in the woods would slowly stop, and increase activity around cities and vehicle spawn locations. Ultimately this would relocate the vehicles from being hardly used to mostly used. The vehicles are obviously rare enough, just not hidden in the mountains. TLDR: Add an explosion timer to vehicles that have not been saved or touched within 3-4 hours.
  22. Duping currently happens unintentionally all the time when people use tents or vehicle storage as intended. We have duped without even knowing it was possible and we keep duping without intending to. Even if we throw all our stuff out of the tents and flatten them with vehicles, they'll be back safe and sound with all the loot after the next server reboot. Duping happens. You can't help it. Even the dupers can't.

    Generators

Rocket has mentioned that he has started or wants to develop generators in the near future to add in to the end game for things such as underground bases. (http://dayzmod.com/f..._360#entry70115) I wanted to make this thread and start a discussion about generators and a collaboration of ideas/uses for the generators. If the thread picks up I will list all reasonable ideas in the main post. The way I see generators is that there are two ways they could exist: A small portable generator which the player could say more in a vehicle, or a bigger generator with a static location. Possible uses for both types of generators: Powering a single house or block. Powering spotlights Charging battery dependent equipment (by Thestarling ). Possible uses for a portable generator: Jump starting vehicles that have required to be fixed if the battery is dead. Powering player made bases. (Rocket has discussed this as well) Powering elevators in building if power is not already on (by Quisari ). Possible uses for a static locational generator: Powering large areas of a city or town. Powering a whole city. Hopefully everyone else has some nice ideas to add to this list and please keep the thread civil.
  24. Everyone checks the vehicle spawn points, you will rarely find them there. Most non-terrible vehicles are parked in hiding spots away from civilization. Trawl the forests west and north of the map and you should find some. Or just setup an ambush at a fuel station or well travelled road and wait (and wait, and wait).
  25. Seriously! After playing for nearly 2 months I've visited military bases at least 70 times by now. Even on restarted servers to get fresh loot spawns. As well as at least 10 crashed helis. Even the player kill count of around 30 and never found one NVG... I've found nearly 12 vehicles...which I thought were as rare since everyone hogs them. Am I doing something wrong here or am I just the unluckiest person for finding them?
