  1. Ancient (DayZ)

What do you do after ... ???

Two points to add on: 1. Find and repair vehicles; and 2. The "game" is still in alpha, meaning that many more features are coming (I think player bases/safehouses will be able to be built). I imagine this game will not focus on balance, but on adding additional things to collect and aquire, either through farming or through goals/acheivements. At least this would constantly give you something new to work towards.
  2. Method (DayZ)

    Ideas for Underground Bases

Reading the top comment of things discussed in Rockets most most recent stream, I've been thinking a lot of how bases would really work in DayZ Instances: He says these bases would be in another "instance". What exactly does that mean? Does that mean the "entry point" to a base would be somewhere in chernarus that YOU designate? Say, in your camp somewhere? What would these entry points look like? A bunker door? Creating the base: "Another instance" meaning, you find this entry point (or create it, if you're the base creator) and it loads, what exactly? Some kind of, "base editor" program? Or you use a "shovel" or something and flesh out the earth much like Terraria or Minecraft? Surely you'd have a limit on how large your base can be. Instead of having users create their own base layout, at least for now as an introductory system to experiment with, maybe have all bases have the same layout? So you create the base, go in it, it's already made for you, maybe a big room, or 2, and there you have it. All bases would be the same. More efficient that way too. Server Efficiency: So then, where are these "other instances" hosted? The same server? Sounds inefficient depending on how many bases and what's in the base/how many people are on the server. Don't get me wrong, I would absolutely love bases to be in DayZ. However, I'm thinking a feature so expansive would have to wait till DayZ is standalone. Base Raiding: How epic would it be to find, not only someones camp with maybe some vehicles, tents, and then you see a glorious door, or a hatch on the ground. You and your team climb down to find a huge fleshed-out base filled with guns, food, equipment, and of course, the clan's members. How rewarding would it be to get all of that equipment after killing off the clan? More discussion also on reddit. Thought I'd post it here too.
  3. hey all. we are 3 x 18+ uk residents been playin the game for over 4 months now, looking for people to join our group or just to hook up once in a while with friendlies. we are 3 uk members, regularily play on, uk32, uk 6, uk 12/13. happy to move sever if theres another group out there looking for allies. we have tents, supplies and means to get vehicles. any1 interested, post up here or pm me. looking to have some more larger group fun and would be nice to coodinate with a few others. have mumble server/skype etc
  4. Cya then and stop posting here about it. You can go post on their "personal" hive forum and hold hands with each other. You clearly disagree with the ideals that its creator of Dayz seems to stand for and you obviously have no qualms in not testing for this Alpha. So why are you still here demanding the game conform to your personal needs? It is a way of starting up with some stability. But in a lot of cases, they're simply locking the server to abuse their admin ability. Either to only let friends into the server in order to farm or get them a slot easily or to recover something they've lost (body / vehicle / relocate a camp). There's servers locked for most of the day... I've found so many vehicles from camps and had the server restart within minutes of going on a joy ride or the server lock down. I now hide them in obscure places or burn down the entire camp if I find some.
  5. Quite a few of my friends and I started playing DayZ a few weeks back and we've enjoyed the hell out of the game. Or we were. Now we're all exceptionally frustrated with it's current state, nearly to the point of leaving the game until the stand-alone comes out. If I get killed by someone with a sniper rifle because I ventured into "their" territory, fine. If I get into a gunfight over a can of beans and bleed to death, so be it. If I get careless and aggro a whole mess of zombies, I can accept the consequences. What I can't stand though, is all of the cheating that's going on. Aimbots, ESP, being killed from the map, etc.; the list goes on and it seems like nothing is being done to address it. There are websites dedicated to exploiting this wonderful game, simply because they can, and "It's part of ARMA II" as an explanation doesn't go very far. What's the point of looking for vehicles, searching for supplies, and getting the gear you really want, when it can be taken away in a second due to some game jerk using a hack? Things like this will KILL interest in DayZ, which would be a truly sad thing, as it's one of the most enjoyable games we've played in a long time. Active admins on a server can be a good front-line against this sort of behavior, IF they were able to ban players for this sort of activity... but they can't. In fact, we've heard that admins are getting even more restrictions on what they can do, so what's the point of even hosting a server? All that's doing is providing a place for other people to play in, and if honest players have to put up with the hacks and cheats and exploits... They. Will. Leave. Who's left? The people ruining the game. We started hosting a server, as we were hoping to create a more honest, stable play environment, but then we're told that we can't ban people for using hacks, only if their ping is too high. That's crap. If BattleEye can't catch the things people are doing, it should be up to server admins to do it, even if it only affects their server. We're talking about shutting our server down soon and moving on to a different game, which is highly disappointing, especially with as many people as I've told about this formerly amazing, currently frustrating game.
  6. I'd like to see something like an item or weapon upkeep/maintenance where you need to maintain your weapon or repair it if it breaks down using a toolkit. Same goes with vehicles and others. Players will need to make sure they maintain these or once they break down they can't be used until repaired and repairing will require other items a long with the toolkit. I wouldn't want it to be like Dead Island though where your weapons would degrade within 30 minutes. I'd like to see something like 4-6 hours for lets say a Makarov before it breaks down. Also lets say a Makarov has 100/100 upkeep points or whatever you want to call it and it degrades to 30/100 once you maintain it using a toolkit the total would decrease to 80/80. So then after something like 60 hours of use the weapon is totally broken beyond repair. I think something like this would be nice to have.
  7. 1. Deal with it 2. Deal with it 3. Deal with it I have spent hours upon hours and hours of looting barracks, crash sites and camp sites searching for items, I have fought killed and died for my haul of loot and vehicles. I have learnt by watching other peoples mistakes and taking advantage of them as they make them, also making afew of my own.

My Dayz Shortfilm. my vision on dayz

More vehicles. And make fuel and parts more rare. And parts based on types of vehicles.

    FPS Guru interview

Yeeess! I never played Eve Online, but I'm sure it must be a lot of fun defending and upgrading your capital ship. I played a bit of Minecraft on a full PvP server, and it was really exciting that a few players could destroy your entire base if you weren't there to defend it. I only found 2 vehicles in DayZ, but these were the best hours I had in-game, they were like moving bases and my team felt so powerful and awesome with all our gear. Once we have huge servers with 100+ players, building bases, raiding towns to get supplies, huge clan wars, it's going to be awesome!
  10. Ghillie suit does the same thing it does in the real world camouflage you in woodland areas. You can make a ghillie big enough to cover your equipment(backpack) No problem there since this uses Arma a military SIMULATION engine. Its not over powered or needs a con. Its con is if your running around a Urban area you stick out like a sore thumb just like in real life. Its thermal it does what its suppose to give you a advantage. Same thing it would do in the real world. Again Simulation vs Game NVG's don't use RARE batteries in real life so they don't need them in DayZ. Your standard triple A's work in PSv1-PSv7. Only thing that isn't represented is lack in depth perception. Which is the draw back to NVG's at night in the real world. Simulation vs Game again A 50.cal sniper rifile will kill you in 1 shot in real life. If I aim at your foot in real life and fire I will probably blow off half of your leg. 50.cal sniper rifles are for vehicles. Actually the according to the Geneva Convention your not even suppose to use it against human targets. The loop hole is that you can say you targeted their equipment. The damage for those rifiles ingame is so high because its taking in account vehicle damage which is what they are designed for. So yea it should kill you in one shot no matter where you hit them. Real world best you can hope for is that you don't bleed out from having half a limb blown off. The other rifles in the game are designed for engaging human targets which is why they dont do as much damage. Simulation vs Game Its a military simulation or based off of Arma's military simulation style. It does so very very well as someone who is in the military that place the game its spot on in my opinion. If this was another shooter then yea balance is important. The way they are in DayZ is fine because having a 50 cal sniper means you can still die to a guy with a AK at CQC or a lee einfield user. There is no AIM ASSIST in this game you have to either already know or learn how to engage targets with each gun using their sights. When I play cod or any other FPS I don't have to know the mil-dot formula I just aim center mass. The only shot in this game that is self explanatory to anyone that has played any fps before in their life is anything 300m or less because most guns are Zero'd to that range in real life anything beyond that you actually have to start accounting for bullet drop and calculating distances. Unless you have a range finder but if your target is moving then you have to account for that. Only gun that makes it EASIER is DMR because of its little recoil and semi fire function. Other snipers don't really let you spray and pray.
  11. No, it didn't. Stop fucking making these posts. Every time you post in these forums you spout this bullshit. From Day 1 people were shooting each other's face off. There were just less people so less faces got shot. There was never a time in DayZ when trust was universal or even necessarily more common than it is today. I have about a 15-20% success rate using direct comm to make friendly contact with people in the game. That's how it was when I started playing these long months ago, that's about where it's at today. With a persistent character? With an open-world sandbox environment? With realistic military equipment and weapons? With zombies? I want all of those things AND to shoot people occasionally. Can you suggest a better game than DayZ? 16% of deaths from PvP. Not a deathmatch mod and you've clearly never played diablo. I interact with players every time I play. Every. Time. Why don't you? What game are you even playing? Wow. Every one of your bullet points gets MORE full of shit than the last. Literally 24 hours ago I was in Skype with a group (supposedly friendly "no matter what") that had been infiltrated. We were betrayed and lost 2 vehicles and 5 lives in the process. I get the feeling you don't even really play the game anymore peretsain. You just show up in the forums once in awhile and make an asinine post and then go back to whatever othre game you're playing. Because it's not DayZ. Or you're making no attempt to actually accomplish the things in the game that you seem to find interesting or valuable. You get out of DayZ what you put in. Stop expecting the game to do your work for you.
  12. 1. Ghillie has one disadvantage. It makes very clear that you're a sniper who likes to lurk around in the bushes. Essentially, that marks that you are most likely a sniping bandit, at least in my mind. It is only useful is you truly are prone somewhere, sniping - not when scavenging the cities, etc. Thus, I try to shoot every ghillie suited guy I see (Its a marker of a likely hostile player, like the old bandit skins). Whereas for the civilian clothed people, I might actually sometimes assume they are friendly and don't shoot on sight. I'm not sure as to how many other players really treat the clothing as any kind of cue of the person, but I might assume that many associate a player in a ghillie as less likely to be friendly than one wearing civilian clothes. So ghillie ain't your elektro market shopping clothing or for making friends. That does not mean that it should not give a clear advantage over other clothing when used in the correct environment. As it should. It would make sense to have a little bit of downsides too, like more heat buildup on a sunny day causing you to get thirsty / get exhausted faster, etc. But for any kind of realism, these differences should probably be so miniscule that their effect on ghillie usage would be irrelevant. Snipers would still use them. 2. Never had one myself. Can't comment. 3. Yes, excess of these totally change the balance at night time servers. It is currently quite suicidal to play on a pitch black night time server if you don't have one, which is a pity because the night time play can be really atmospheric. (Full moon night time is a different thing, because it does not require the use of any light sources, just maxing out the gamma. So it's not really fully "night time" gameplay-wise.) If it weren't a suicide to turn on the flashlight at night due to NVGs people might actually start playing on those servers again. (I mean other players than those using night to loot the NWA or snipe the few flashlight noobs at coast) 4. Like with all the other high end gear... I don't really believe the issue is that these weapons exist in the game world and that they are highly powered compared to other weapons... The problem is that the amount of this stuff probably keeps building up in the game. And they might be coming more of a standard issue rather than the really rare weaponry they should be. (Still, yes, it would be sensible/realistic that these weapons slow down movement / take more space.) And I have no idea as to how to really make the rare items stay rare without some artificial mechanics. If more of them keep on spawning, and people hoarding them to tents and vehicles, then... How can you prevent them from becoming more and more common? Either by ensuring that the playerbase grows fast enough to offset the loot buildup (non-viable option in long term) - or by ensuring that the loot somehow starts to end up destroyed once a certain amount has been reached in the game world. You know, there is a reason why most of the MMOs have an exponential level-up pricing logic, and certain mechanisms that work as spawns and sinks for the collected stuff. That is how you build up a working economy of things, so that it reaches a certain desired stable state. Not by just just changing the spawn rates alone, that just speeds up or slows down the eventual build-up. And please don't reply that "go back to WoW", I don't play that game. I'm just stating that the other game devs are not putting those features in, just because they would be stupid or randomly ending up doing so - It's because there are reasons of general economics behind them.
  13. I think it's something with Day Z. I've never had vehicles that were made out of glass like they are in DayZ when i play vanilla Arma 2

    Vehicles gone after beta-update

oh ok, update: i just logged in to check the natural spawn-points and the vehicles are back again. dont know what happend but they are back at the place where we saved them. awesome!!!
  15. Love the idea. As for "Why dogtags"? Why not? It isn't a stretch to say that our characters are military people; they know how to effectively use military weapons (knowing how to use a weapon effectively is far different than just pointing a gun at someone and pulling a trigger) equipment (nvgs, rangefinders, entrenching tools ect) and vehicles, know advanced combat first aid, how to properly combat crawl (it's harder than it looks), just to name a few of the things our characters innately know how to do that a normal civilian would not. Besides, its just a mechanic that works and fits the setting. As for this encouraging more pvp.... people will be bandits and engage in pvp regardless. This will do nothing to make it more rampant, nor will it discourage pvp. So in that sense it is a perfect mechanic in that it is neutral. Name Number of hours alive in game (or days alive even though that is much less reliable) Date killed Zombie kills Murders Bandit Kills

Tents not saving inventory and dissapearing

Still bugged for me: Version: 1.7.2 BETA version: 95054 Server: US 386 ---------------------------------------- I put two weapons and some food and drinks, after a day, it was all missing, but I'm sure no one found the tent, because I had some vehicles around and they and their gear are still there.
  17. I played a bit of the armory in Arma 2 to get used to guns & vehicles etc. It didnt help too much as the 1st time i found a vehicle in day z i crashed it & killed myself after about 5 minutes!
  18. Name: Mark Age: 16 In game name: kilsalot Steam Id: kilsalot Desired combat role (Medic, sniper, exc): Scout - Got my L85A2 good at spotting with the thermal scope. Why you would like to join (Going to need to do better than simply ‘lookin 4 group’) : Well ive been playing DayZ along now for quite a while and i thought I'd see if I could find a group but I noticed this and this clan is more than a group it's a community and a community I would love to be a part of. All the time I have been playing DayZ I try my best to give a head start to new players by giving them basic supplies and telling them where to go but it is harder to do on your own as 15 mins later you will see that the person you just assisted has died but I think with this clans Anti-Bandit mindset we can help noobs get a footing in DayZ What can you offer to the clan: Experience, Ammo, Guns, A Spotter and Im happy to look for vehicles. I have a mic and teamspeak Thanks -Kilsalot

    Average Life Expectancy

Yeah, likewise. My friends and I have several tents scattered around the map (on different servers too) full of weapons/tools etc, it's not like I've lost anything when I die. Recently went to a heli crash site, found an FN FAL, M107 and a PDW, I just took the PDW since we have 3-4 FN FALS at base and the M107 is useless imo (any sniper will get the job done). So gear is just.. meh why bother. I do however have fun when I decide to walk along the edge of the map looking for tent cities/vehicles, It's a thrill to get the vehicle back without knowing whatsoever where I am. Good stories are made then.. but now we have a few vehicles we don't really require any more.

Kicking of Players for Clan members

THEY are not paying for DayZ. They are paying for a server. You're really going to go around in circles with me on this? You have every right to do whatever you want with the server you purchase or rent. It is yours and you have full control over it. That has exactly nothing to do with DayZ and what your rights are with respect to the mod. You are not renting DayZ. You are not paying for DayZ. The only price of DayZ is adherence to the rules. You are renting the server - and can do whatever you want with it. But your rights to run DayZ will continue to be governed by the rules of DayZ hosting. I have explained this to you already, and used a very illustrative analogy to clarify the difference. Take a moment and re-read my previous post and give it some genuine consideration this time. Honestly. What's being "asked for" is irrelevant. Server owners are already kicking everyone off of servers to hoard items and vehicles. It is already happening. Go read the Server General or Cheat Report forums (or just go try to join a few servers with < 10 players online, it won't take you long to find one that autokicks). And you want to make this practice acceptable? MORE common? Ugh, eww, and phooey.

    Vehicle Fragility Is An Issue

I haven't yet been shot at whilst driving, I think you should just be smarter about when you drive. Think about this.. Do you need to drive? Can't you walk to where you're going? Can you go when it's night time instead? If none of the above.. Take a different route (even off road through a forest if you need to) and park further away in a tree line, and preferably bring a friend incase - hits the fan. Remember: Vehicles are by far the most valuable item in Day Z, take the extra 30 minutes of being cautious if it means you'll save the vehicle.
  22. As difficult as it is to get a vehicle running and sustain it, the fact that one player can unload ~10 rounds into your vehicle an make it explode is quite ridiculous. Please consider making vehicles a lot more resilient to small arms fire in terms of catching on fire/exploding.
  23. Oh, well our position was on the antenna hill :D the shooting is not on the video, it was about 10 minutes later as we got the vehicles that the server went down. Peew

    Vehicle Fragility Is An Issue

If military vehicles were this fragile in real life, nobody would use them.

Agree on all of the above and while it is a punch in the face for anyone who has a base set up on that server or vehicles on it, its already a punch in the face to them if the claims are true about resetting the server multiple times in such short span as well as handing out gear and duping the system.
