    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2.4

How about a full tent/vehicle wipe after the tents are fixed? Save me the time running through all the servers leveling all tents and shooting up all the vehicles I can find. :P

buffing and nerfing need in dayz

Buff: - Amount of land vehicles on the map, not too much though. - Zombies aren't deadly enough, there needs to be a reason for people to group up, these things just aren't that big of a threat. Nerf: - Ammo should be VERY hard to come by, not to the point where you find one clip for the thing like once a day, just make it hard and give you a good reason to group up so there's people with different guns, so there's more ammo for the group. - Food is pretty easy to come by if you know where to look, could use a little bit of nerfing sense it's able to be found everywhere pretty much. - Zombies and their zig zag pattern, along with wall and door walking.
  3. Last night, for the first time I played this game with a friend. It was probably the most intense gaming experience I have ever taken part in, in total I got shot down to near death twice, I killed 7 people and I didn’t even get out of Elektro. However, a few things happened that although didn’t ruin the experience, they didn’t exactly help it either. First of all. I found an ATV in Kamyshovo. “GET IN!” I thought. It looked to be in working order, there was no damage, the wheels were still on it. So, I sit on it, thinking I could go pick up my friend who was stuck in Elektro, then head towards our other guy coming from Cherno. This is the first time I have driven an ATV (although I did once find one on top of a mountain that I sat on but it was stuck on a rock) and when I tried to go forwards, the ATV started driving vertically into the sky, then it flipped over on its side. Annnnnnnnnd… that was that. Either I am dumb and I somehow drove an ATV wrong (although I don’t care how wrong you ride an ATV in real life, you won’t defy gravity :P) or a bug caused it to flip over. It was now unusable. I had no way of flipping it over. I’m not saying these ATVs are feathers… but I’m pretty sure a single man could muster up the strength to force it back onto its wheels. So I propose a vehicle flipping mechanism, but within reason of course. I, along with the next 900,000 people don’t want to see one guy flip over an entire bus. Maybe a CIV car could be flipped with 2-3 guys and the ATV flipped by 1 guy. (please bear in mind I am basing this suggestion on the basis that I don’t think this is already in the game, if it is already there please inform me how I do it and forget this part of the thread). The second occurrence that struck me as bizarre… Me and my friend went into the Church in Elektro, shut the door and had a snoop around for some ammo etc. My friend was guarding the door, and I was at the back towards the alter picking up some .45 rounds for my M1911, when all of a sudden, out of nowhere I was downed, bleeding and in dire need of painkillers. The door was shut, the windows are stained glass (and high up anyway), there was no one else in the room, I didn’t hear a gunshot, but I had been shot. There isn’t really a suggestion here, but I just wanted to put this out there as to why this may have happened? The third thing, we was in the fire station. I had to take out 2 guys just to get in there, and even so I knew there was a guy at the top of the tower. So, we shut all the doors and headed towards the stairs. I go up the stairs and he’s waiting at the top of the stairs with his hatchet, perched over waiting to get a hit on the top of my head. His hatchet was no match for my AK-74. Upon killing that fool, I noticed he possessed an Alice backpack. So, I informed my mate and he proceeded to collect this backpack while I moved down to the bottom of the building to watch the doors and make sure no one can get in. Turns out, some guy spawned right next to my mate and he thought it was me (as in, my mate thought the newly spawned guy was me). He stood there for ages just watching my mate try and pick up a backpack (he’s new to the game) and the whole time I didn’t know he was there, and my mate thought it was me. So you can imagine my friends confusion when he started getting axed to death. Of course, I went up the stairs again and avenged his death (this actually counted as a bandit kill so I feel no remorse). It’s kind of disappointing that my friend finally had all the stuff we needed before heading out, but was then killed because some guy spawned between us both. I have two suggestions on how to prevent this sort of thing happening, well 3 actually but one of them is a suggestion in its own right. a ) When a player spawns into the level, there should be a pointer that they just spawned, not something saying “AXEBANDIT HAS SPAWNED IN FIRESTATION” but a visual aid, I’m not sure what exactly, maybe their name shows up with them for 3-5 seconds when they spawn (thus influencing people to log out in safe places) or maybe they spawn greyed out for a few seconds. b ) Don’t allow people to spawn inside buildings. (although I’m fairly sure this has been suggested in the past). When you think about it, in real life everyone looks different and people don’t magically spawn in from nowhere. So this is a unique problem to a game (this game, rather), unfortunately it is difficult to fix a game’s problem without adding a ‘non-realistic’ feature to counter it. The fourth suggestion is all about recognition. I would like to see some kind of system that shows other players in the world just how long your character has survived and what they have been through. Those nice clean civ clothes? Well, they should be getting blood stained. The character should be growing a beard, getting bruised, clothes being torn, bandages showing, mud around the bottom of their trousers from the storms. Imagine, seeing your character battered up after a long and rewarding play through? There is a reason in just about all movies the characters are always battered and bruised by the end, it adds authenticity. If I scramble away from being attacked and bleeding by a horde of zombies, I am not going to be in pristine condition. If this existed, players would be more likely to recognise their friends. Of course, finding a new set of clothing such as camo would clean up the character. I think that should just about do it for now. PS. The other guy I mentioned who was coming from Cherno, I asked “where are you anyway?” He replies… “Berezino”. He just ran across the entire map whilst me and the other guy where in Elektro lol. (TL;DR - Flipping vehicles, dying from a magic bullet, killed by a teleporting axe murderer and visible damage to character)

    What path should I take?

I made friends by offering a guy a free AS50 and a show (We blew up the Elektro hospital) Since then we have helped eachother's groups out and traded vehicles :0

    Vehicle scavenging in DayZ.

As said I am no progamer, just a gamer who knows what he would love to see in a game(So if it isn't possible I could live with that, but then I at least uttered my opinion). I would guess that giving each wreck in the game the posibility to be repaired, could get messy in the end. Just picturing 5 cars pers players, worst case scenario, unless I totally missunderstood you that is! Although on the server where you have over 100 players I can see how that would be a major upside, as then it would actually be possible for most people to drive a car during their time in DayZ. Hence why I was thinking of only scavenging some parts from a few selected vehicles around the map. As then you wouldn't get more cars, you would only get more parts and in a more likely place than some of the places you find them now. I also have to edit myself a bit, as I came up with a more elaborated idea during sleeptime =)

    First Vehicles?

When you have 12 people in a group doing vehicles searches it's pretty easy :P

    First Vehicles?

Q: So this post is to see what your first vehicle find was, and maybe even where? A: My first vehicle I'd found today was a green bicycle. It was pretty far up North sitting right beside a fence surrounding a red tower. The tower was like an electrical tower, but I'd say smaller. Not sure what they're called but I think this tower was the type that gives you phone service. I think the more exact location would be North East. ( Link In Photo ~ Wiki )

I will never be a bandit. Survivor nice-guy stories

A sad story. I logged on at my camp west of the IAF to find my Toyota Hilux, Sedan and UAZ gone. Four of my tents have been raided. One was spared, most likely because they flattened it when stealing my vehicles. Lucky for me, that's where I kept my weapons. Without any friends around or coming any time soon, cut-off from the world and low on medical supplies, I decided to grab my Dragunov (camo) and head south to restock and try to find someone to befriend. It was a long run through Lopatino, Pustoshka and Zelenogorsk. Only on the latter I found signs of another survivor. Sadly, he was dead. I inspected the body and noticed that he had died recently (spotted his name a bit before entering the town). I regretted not being there earlier so I could help (seems he was killed by zombies) and grabbed some supplies from the market before heading further south. Eventually I turned east and came to one of my secondary camps near Chernogosk. From there, I looted the north-west hospital for meds and climbed atop the silos to check out the town (night had fallen by now). I stayed there for nearly twenty minutes trying to spot other survivors scavanging, and just as I was about to leave for Electrozavodsk I saw a couple flares near the International Hotel. Whoever was down there wasn't being wise. I tracked the flares across trown all the way to the market. After switching to a better vantage point I saw that there were actually three survivors . I studied their movements for a few minutes as they scavanged and started to consider joining them. Still, it was night-time and they were three, I was reluctant to just go running up to them and yelling friendly. Instead, I shadowed them as they left Chernogosk due west. I did some thinking and imagined that since they had low-grade gear they'd hit Balota Airfield, so I got down from the silos and went to the forest north-east of Cherno, following the tree lines due-west as well. I was expecting to get to the Airport after them, but after going through the broken fence behind the ATC tower I noticed flares at the Red Cross Camp in front of the strip. I climbed to the top of the tower and looked down my scope. Thanks to the flares and the full moon, I could see their movements pretty clearly. I even saw one of them blow himself up with a grenade. By now I had figured out these people weren't really experienced (or at least they didn't behave as such) and decided to link-up with them. It would be great, I could teach them the ropes and I'd get new people to hang out with. Eventually they (the two left alive) left the Camp and came to the Airfield. I saw them kneeling down by the edge and using binoculars to scout the area. They didn't see me. They started by the hangars, once they got to the one closest to the tower, I started typing. I explained I was friendly. I told them that the fact they were still alive was proof that I was, since I could have sniped them a dozen times. I narrated them their own trip to the Airport so they could see that I wasn't bluffing. I expressed my wishes for joining up with them and even help them re-link with their friend. I believe most of you already know how this ended. After some more talking, I told them I was coming down from the tower. I had seen one of them entering it, but I was hoping he was just using caution. When I started walking down the stars, he ran into me and broke my legs (head-butted them). When I was down, he shot me. I wasn't really angry. Being killed was part of my gamble. Still, it bothered me that they wouldn't even try working together. This called for payback. I respawned at Chernogosk (sheer luck or divine intervention). Grabbed and enfield, a can of food and water and rushed to the Airfield. As I was almost there, I saw one of them (recognized their names from the little chat we had) got killed. I did not hear any shots. When I finally came into the base, I spotted the body, but no signs of his "friend". I like to think that he got killed by his friend while they were arguing who would take my Dragunov (and other supplies). The truth is that I don't know. In any case, I grabbed my ALICE pack and an AKM and decided to head back to the city, hoping that next time I choose to gamble with my life, it actually pays off.

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2.4

Oh and if someone hasn't mentioned it already... Can we get the military offroad trucks back? The amount of single/double vehicles in this game is discouraging.
  13. IDK if this thread already exists but it would be cool if people made a list of fun things in DayZ. (also achievement like goals) Also feel free to post Awesome Stories of you doing a few of these (Videos are welcome too) I'll Start with a Few 1. The Zombie Commander Find a Spawn Point near Cherno on a HIGH population server (40ish) Run Sprinting through town gathering as many Zombies as possible (While Screaming over the Mic) and then find the Nearest Camping Sniper and Run for them (Do Zig-Zags so they don't kill you) and make all the zombie swarm them. (Doesn't have to be a sniper but damn I hate the Cherno campers alot) 2. Round 'em Up Run through ANY town (with an enterable building) and have a friend or 2 inside the building camping with an Assault Rifle/Machine Gun. Round up all the zombies in town then let your friends gun down the zombies. (Not fun if you do it to much or if douche bags are watching) 3. Back Axed Sneak up on a sniper and kill them with a hatchet (add an apache war cry for lolz over the mic) Likely would work best if you had an idiotic friend willing to run out in the middle of field on a high pop server near cherno or elektro, and find muzzle flashes. OR you can have a friend look for one at a distance and then sneak up on them. 4. Pickpocket Simply sneak up on a dude and take stuff out of their back pack, AND ESCAPE. (Good luck, will likely only work on the oblivious or afk people.) 5. Rebirth Killed your first zombie 6. Killed in cold blood Killed your first survivor 7. An eye for an eye Killed your first bandit 8. Destruction Derby Get at least 2 vehicles, 1 friend, and drive into each other until one or both vehicles stop working. (Don't use Helio's for this, and please use civilian cars)
  14. Don't feel bad bro, me and mine lost a ton of shit today because two guys teleported or something into the midst of our group, shot us, blew up our vehicles with sachtel charges or something and then suidiced themselves with more gear than god. Then immediately disconnected from the server. http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/43627-reporting-2-hackers/ There is the topic if anyone wants the names of them.
  15. Me and my friend are looking for people to come and join us. We are aiming to set up a camp and get some vehicles soon so if you want to join us add me on skype Name: tuckzzz We are based in the UK EDIT We are 16.

    Why I kill.

Obviously there is a lot of heated discussion about player versus player in this game. I thought I might try to throw my opinion in so it too can be misinterpreted, disagreed with, flamed, and generally rejected by the community. I'm kidding, I hope you have something constructive to say in response. We're going to do this in list form because everyone loves lists, just look at VH1. Also, I don't feel like writing a proper essay and I feel like you don't want to read one. The reasons why I kill will be presented generally in order of most prevalent to least in accordance with my opinion. 1. Because I am good at it (or so I think) and I want to show it: My experience as a gamer has generally been that I can quickly and easily become skilled at games and compete with other players who are generally in the top 10-25% (generally, I have been as high as 1% in some ladders) of whatever game I choose to spend time on. In single player games I almost never play difficulties below whatever is one step above normal (heroic is as low as I go in Halo, for example.) So, when I kill you I want you to know that I have better reflexes, game knowledge, skill, etc. In the case that I am just far away in a sniper spot, it's not even skill so much as patience. I still want you to know that one way or another I got the upper hand on you. The reverse is true when a player kills me. I get the twinge in my brain that someone capitalized on my mistake and that I have to be better. This reason is also why I think the pvp prevention method of creating options that provide incentive to work in groups will not be as effective as people think. Guys like me will do our best to kill you regardless of how stacked the odds are against us. In fact, I love that shit. If I can kill you and your two buddies all by myself, then that makes me feel awesome. Also, I can just as easily rally my buddies who are of like mind and we will work together to kill you. 2. Because I want your stuff: The game is about survival. Even if I see you're only carrying a Makarov and have a czech vest pouch on your back. If I don't know you then maybe you've got a blood pack or some tool belt item that I don't have. Simply on the chance of you having a tool box when I don't is enough reason for me to want to kill you. This isn't just driven by survival, greed, and power seeking though. The first successful life I played lasted probably 15 hours of play and 3 days. I helped out other players a couple times with no betrayal but in the end I was killed by someone who got the drop on me. Since then I play much more aggressively and part of my gear gathering via player kill motivation has been that I am just trying to get back from some faceless dude what some other faceless dude took from me. 3. Because your existence is a threat: This is another survival thing. I don't want you to be strong enough to challenge me. I am going to knock you down whenever I can so that you have less chance of gathering the resources to be an immediate threat to me. This includes raiding your hoard sites for their supplies and then scuttling your stuff. 4. Because the thrill of PVP in this game is unlike anything I have experienced in gaming: Just seeing a player in the far away distance is enough to get my blood pumping. The cost of death is so high in this game that risking it in combat is exhilarating. When I am successful it is even more sweet. When I fail, I still take my trembling hands from the keyboard and mouse and smile because the experience is fun. 5. Because at this time there isn't much left to do, and I am okay with that: I could get with my friends or join a clan and we could come up with personal objectives like setting up camps or recovering vehicles, but where is the excitement at the end of those goals? Protecting your territory? Driving your truck? Nope, I am going to try to kill you. TL;DR is to the right of each number.
  17. I only play on US East Coast servers. Stop your tears. 1. My bad, I guess finding them almost exclusively after a restart is a coincidence. I don't typically just wander through the woods, due to it being fucking boring. It's not a question of manning up so much as a question of me not enjoying playing the game like a hiking sim. Also, since you have vehicles, finding your clan is probably much easier. Some people don't. Not having to hike for an extra 15 minutes isn't a huge gamebreaker imo. 2. Yeah you're right. If I die, and me in my group drop what we're doing and run in perfectly straight lines intersecting at the exact middle point between us it could take about 8 minutes. Without the need to use supplies, dodge trees, avoid/navigate towns, or defend ourselves. 3. With this system, you can always spawn. It negates the usefulness of spawn hopping, while allowing players to choose, at least in a very limited and vague way, how to begin. Still need to travel from coast, and most likely longer ways, since each spawn section is about 4km long. Long enough to make re-spawning constantly to loot your own corpse much more difficult.

    Are Choppers In The Game?

They have been REMOVED from normal spawn due to glitches and server lag caused by them. They are supposed to be returning with upcomming patch. With that said any and all helicopters you have seen in the past few weeks are hacked vehicles. There are so many hackers spawning items and vehicles that they people think the heli is back in game because they are nearly one or more in every server either flying around or hidden. You can still find the crashed heli loot sites, but those are non repairable vehicles.

    Are Choppers In The Game?

Choppers are definitely in. You can actually look on certain DayZ maps and find helicopter spawns as well as other vehicles.

    New Server no Vehicles Spawned

All taken by clans, I was 1 hour behind my server going up and most vehicles were already stolen
  21. RB30E

    DayZ so F***ing Hacked I can't play.

teleporters and some sort of remove all but players vehicles and tents hack on nz 16 recently, played on another server the other night not sure what it was sg, sp server or something atleast 3 invisible players. It's dumb the people i play with work hard to get the gear we get and stay alive fore days then hackers come in and blow us away with there incredible gift of being able to know exactly where we are or sneak right past us and steal our shit with out us seeing them.

    New Server no Vehicles Spawned

If you're going by the daydb map, don't. That thing is not all that accurate. Also, the hive determines when vehicles spawn... New servers don't automatically have every vehicle right from the start it seems.
  23. [Posted this in the gallery and it got ignored, shame that using 2 months preparing something gets you less comments than a video where a guy shoots another guy with a sniper rifle] Hello all. Couple of months ago I started planning on making a guide series to DayZ, helping new people to get started. Topics I will cover will pretty much cover anything that isn't too advanced (I doubt I will take time going through every weapon etc, I won't do this in that much detail as I find that somewhat unnecessary). What I will cover are vehicles (again, basics, I won't take everything for a ride), navigating, fighting, first aid, player interactions etc. Parts will be added as I get them done. This isn't my first rodeo either, I've been doing videos for some years now. Quality should be as such, even though I'm not particularly proud of the editing of the first part - it'll have to do though. Why? Well, the guides that I had glanced through were shit to be quite honest, usually some guy improvising live over a footage, not really taking the time to produce something half way decent. Also getting started was bit of an hassle for me and it'll be more of that now that people can't use in game comms to get help on the spot from more experienced players. Thanks and have fun.

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2.4

Vehicle hoarders do you have any comments on these. Once you find a helicopter i guess people just stash away all the vehicles in the woods. Also would love to see ui updates to the inventory system and a "add server to favorites" feature on the server browser. Is it possible to fix the sights on the M16M203 and the M4A1 HOLO so i can toggle b/w the iron sights and the launcher leaf sights.
  25. I recently rented a dayz server (US1108) and no vehicles are spawning? Why is that happening?
