US 155 / 156 - Kansas 1 & 2 - official n0ob servers thread
JeffCraig replied to JeffCraig's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Again: thanks for all your support guys. I'm not the most active admin, but I do intend to keep these servers running through the DayZ alpha + beta stages. I'll try to keep you guys more up-to-date on when there will be server downtime. Just keep in mind that we're still in alpha; shit is going to break, hackers are gunna hack, and there's always plenty of dicks around that will try to ruin your fun. I know it sucks to get killed by a hacker, or to find all your shit/camp/vehicles missing, but that just goes with the territory in this game. The DayZ dev team is more active now with notifying server admins when there are updates, etc, so I'll try to get my server up to date asap, but sometimes I like to wait for a more stable release if one is particularly fucked. -
If you make something to difficult, a lot of people won't bother with it and it will push a lot of would be buyers or active players away. having to find parts + keep it fueled + find the actual vehicle is enough as it is currently is to allow players to strive for it, and once finding it. Gain from it, if you made it harder the people would probably just start blowing up vehicles they didn't have the manuals for. To ensure someone else couldn't use the vehicle against them.
-
Functioning vehicles are scarce - i get it. But my problem is understanding how a normal citizen is able to repair an engine (even worse an high tech helicopter) without any knowledge, so here my idea: Before you get the option to repair a vehicle, you have to read a manual on how to repair said vehicle OR you must have the manual in your inventory as a tool. BUT - an engine can't be repaired without tools, so the toolbox would again be necessary to repair vehicles. Now players need 2 rare (heli superare?) items in order to repair a vehicle. so the spawn numbers of vehicles could be way higher than now. Yes - I do see this effect could be abused to get many many vehicles, BUT: Third point I don't get the point how a normal civilian is able to fly a helicopter, people without real training would crash and die when attempting to fly with one so again: What are your thoughts on this guys?

SSS clan playing on a 3/3 SSS clan server
Barronism replied to herd's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
You're acting like a 15 year old high school girlfriend. Stop trying to look far into something that isn't there. No, hoarders don't effect you. Because you dont' have to play on their servers. If you do, you knowingly joined and that is on you. If someone who didn't know, joined their server. They can simply avoid them, they don't have to fight every person they see. If they do, they can kill them. If they die, then oh well this is Dayz. If you're effected by their actions, it is because you willing put yourself in a situation where you will be effected. Cheaters/hackers would be the only thing that effects you. Since I wasn't refering to them, you are once again looking to far into something. Locking a server for an hour doesn't make someone a hacker/cheater. The most they could "hoard" would be vehicles. You have the ability to go look for them. Go onto any Dayz server that has been around longer than a week and you'll see how hard it is to find a vehicle. The only way you'll get one is by hijacking it from someone else. So by them hoarding vehicles, nothing changes. -
Just finished a load more playtime, 5 hrs ish (95389 & 1.7.2.4) Did some normal dayz shit got killed got kitted again and drove over most of the map This was messed up tonight Loading times longer than last night, lots longer Artifacts Still couldn't fill water bottles Animals couldnt retrieve food after gutting Got shot right through a truck?? how is that even possible Lag ffs Laaaaaaggg lots of it my m8 was down to 9 frames in the countryside normally 50-60 (we play on same server all the time) zombies i have no idea what they are doing anymore Some standing stock still, some ambling about even though you stand 2 feet in front of them, some spannering without even seeing us really bad desynching in vehicles ,worst we have ever known Players sliding sideways quite a lot Its a bit fucked up guys, hopefully someone is looking into it Its definatly getting worse.

Rocket.. Cache's Like Tents and Status on Preventing Off Map Saves of Tents & Vehicles?
-Cdn-Chard posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Rocket.. Cache's Like Tents and Preventing Off Map Saves of Tents & Vehicles? I really appreciate the great mod you've created. A couple of questions... Obviously you've considered caches... Is this something you might release in the future? Were you thinking of something that would operate exactly like tents (create/save/etc.) but be much less visible. Status on Preventing Off Map saving of Tents/Vehicles. I think it's great that choppers are making a comeback, but not if players will be able to hoard them 10 km off of the map beyond any reasonable chance of discovery. Are there any plans to either prevent off map saves or do regular nightly or random wipes of off-map objects? Thanks... -
Airsoft can be a ton of fun, but it all depends on the people you play with. I used to play nearly every weekend for several years, plus multiple regional and national events (such as Oklahoma Invasion, check it out if you are into Airsoft. Its a ton of fun, they use military vehicles as transports and even overflight runs by helicopters armed with airsoft LGMs). The sport depends on honesty 100%. Everyone is expected to call their hits and be aboveboard, as well as calling for safety skills when you get too up close and personal. 99% of the people I played with were honest, but as with any group you will have people who try to cheat. Those people don't last long and tend to get banned from any local fields or events run by or with local people. That being said it can be an expensive hobby to get into, costing several hundred dollars worth of gear before you can even try it out (unless you are lucky enough to be able to get rentals or loaners from someone), and the temperment of the other players can ruin Airsoft also. The local group I always played with started getting overrun by a group of elitists pricks who changed the whole feeling of the game imo, and I havent been out to play in over a year because of it. Which is too bad because it really can be a TON of fun.

Here's how I hope the final version of Day Z will play out: Phase One: Surviving - Scavenge, kill and loot. (Basically what you can do now except repair vehicles.) Phase Two: Building - Use teamwork and mechanisms like pulleys to move large and heavy objects (use manual vehicles like push-bikes with trailers to transport heavy materials longer distances) to repair vehicles and construct fortifications. For example you couldn't pick up a car engine by yourself, you must get two other players to help lift it with a pulley and lower it into the car body (or trailer for transport). Another example would be carrying a sheet of corrugated iron between two people (too large for one) to use as a building material. Phase Three: Ruling - Expand your fort into a thriving settlement, engaging in trade and warfare with other settlements, recruiting citizens and warding off bandit raids. Your aim is now to maintain power and stability. Phase Four: Winning! - Within the sturdy walls of your ramshackle kingdom you set about achieving the pinnacle of success in Day Z, the mark of the true King of Chernarus: growing the most epic beard in the land!

Hotfix Build 1.7.2.4 Rolling Update
Turk (DayZ) replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Are the majoriety of weapons worth having anymore? The game IS too clunky too work properly with the current direction this nerfing is leading toward. So much more needs to be fixed before trying this. I see the intention of nerfing weapons so zombies are more of a threat that i agree with ... on paper, just like this arma2, on paper it sounds the best engine but in reality/practice it is flawed to all hell. (inb4 the people who are going to say gtfo if you don't like the difficulty (as they convenantly forget they have vehicles full of weapons that actually "work" akm, dmr etc that they run to anytime they are killed.) The mod in its current state has too many issues - desync/lag, numerous clipping problems and the obvious knightmare that is arma2s inventory system. TRUELY Fix those then start tweaking the difficulty. (though i guess you are flogging the last mileage out of the mod before standalone?) Every patch has slowly stiffled the limited abilities of the engine. In short the weapons nerf is far too soon for the current state of the mods development. Side note. Those in clans/groups are enjoying the current patch direction (i would too if i had vehicles and near endless supllies) BUT those who lonewolf style are having an extremely difficult time, I'd be for this IF people actually did group up, maybe it will happen over time but having been sniped at North EAST airfield and shot in the back whilst carrying an AXE (he gottsa has that axe!) I doubt it. -
vehicle "hoarding", what the hell is it?
phil replied to Daddy'o (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Clans buy servers, and place their vehicles. We've done it on our server before, and it's very boring. Besides, you have to go pretty much to the back end of no where away from the action. It's pretty pointless, and I don't understand why people do it - then again I don't particularly understand Cherno/Elektro snipers killing people for their flashlights.. -
vehicle "hoarding", what the hell is it?
[email protected] replied to Daddy'o (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
no. false. We have 5-7 people playing in our group most days, but a lot of the time we're either playing at different times or doing separate tasks. One UAZ for 6 people isn't going to help anybody. Even with our 4 vehicles more than half the group is still walking most of the time. -
Yes they do, not many people use them though. According to the DayZ wiki they are used for: Tank Traps are placeable items that block a small area and cannot be moved by vehicles. They require a Toolbox to set up. They are also known as a 'Hedgehog'. Also you should head over to the DayZ wiki for more information, its a very useful website! Good luck surviving!

Yep. After a server restart last night vehicles started spawning. :D

Bravo-Two-Zero replied to SchizophrenicE FIC's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Satchel charges are in Dayz, but just like M136 extremely rare to find and only in one place. But since they have an insane amount of satchel charges, yes, they are for 99.99% sure hackers. As for the admin, even admins can't detect most scripts being executed, except for spawning vehicles maybe. But other than that: hackers can kill, teleport, spawn weapon crates and relocate vehicles and find player locations without any admin will ever notice in the log files. -

Thank you so much, probably the only thing in the entire DayZ forum that made me laugh so hard that I actually spat my drink out. But now, back to topic. I agree with you and jimykx, there are major issues with the game, I dislike how many people "sweetmouth" the Mod and talk in high praises of rocket, sure, he brings a pretty unique Mod out on the field, but all that sweetmouthing seems to be hiding the major problems that DayZ still has. 1) Zombies got the moves like jagger, the run in all kinds of directions, VERY FAST and most of the time their animations start lagging when they change direction or start hitting players, when I'm playing with a group and a zombie gets aggro'd we usually shoot him alltogether, but if he's too close, the only one allowed to fire is the guy being attacked while everyone else just goes prone, hitting the zombie in his twitchy attack animation makes it easy to miss him and kill your mate. 2) Nights, way too dark, only way to "make out stuff" in the dark is to set HDR to "High" and move Brightness and Gamma to Max., it should be slightly brighter, Night servers are almost ALWAYS empty, only people on there are usually those with NVG's, and they're having a nice time looting EVERYTHING without hindrance. 3) New Players, they're fucked, they get thrown into a world of hateful players that are hellbent on killing every other Player they come across, leave alone the buggy zombies and the horrible loot spawns. Last time I died I checked Elektrozavodsk (even the Market), then moved to Pusta and on to Mogilevka, in that time I found ONE Can of Soda and NO FOOD.... but a shitload of weapons, by the time I left Elektro I already had a AKM with 4 mags, Alice Pack and some nice tools (map, watch, etc.) but found no food. My suggestion: Make ALL weapon spawns more rare. Increase spawn of food cans in Residential by a tiny bit. Give new players that start on the Coast some means to defend themselves, a Crowbar would be fine imho, right now they're food for everything they come across, most of them don't even know how the zombies work yet and what they should do if shit hits the fan, this issue really lowers the population of new players. Last but not least) PVP. Why are people doing it ? Because pretty much everything else in DayZ apart from killing/hunting other Players is plain boring. Reasons I believe to be for this: Helicopters got removed, for valid reasons, yeah, but they were a lot of fun for people. Pretty much ALL vehicles on the Servers are taken by the Server Owners or Clan Members Tents, Vehicles are STILL really buggy and sometimes their gear vanishes or just doesn't save The Mod's difficulty is way too low, there need to be Zombies in Fields, Hills and Forests, more varied zombies too, the game in general should be harder. Like said before, I understand that Chernarus is a eastern country, but you wouldn't even find that many guns in the whole of the U.S., there's guns and ammo EVERYWHERE. Killing People has no negative effects, a slightly higher amount of zombies and a better hearing range for them in terms of gunshots would make Shootouts less likely. What does this have to do with PvPing ? Easy, most of the fun aspects of the mod are either still buggy, or got taken out because they were buggy and are being worked on. The only feature that's fun for people which more or less works as intented is... you guessed it... PvP. EDIT: You also break your bones way too often, it's annoying. I alone broke my bones more often in DayZ than the entire population of the World has in probably two decades. Open a door, door hits you, start bleeding like a stabbed pig all over the place, drop unconscious for 5 minutes, shock and leg broken > Die. Killed by Door in a Zombie Apocalypse. Thank you for this thread, I know there's probably many like this, but if there were none, than there'd be no one to hear our prayers and fears for the future of DayZ. A friend of mine was filling up a gascan at a Station, I took a jerry can too to refill it, I come around the corner and we run into each other, it looked as if our heads bashed into each other, we both dropped unconscious, of course with broken legs and bleeding. We both died. Most of the time you can also just break your bones by being punched by a zombie (happens too often in my oppionion) or by running over uneven terrain.

Ultimate server settings poll (What should go and what shouldn't?)
panque posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
After discussing a lot here: http://dayzmod.com/f...t/page__st__140 I thought about making a more in depth poll... Mainly for when the game goes standalone and we all might have a single set of rules, but it's cool to know what people think right now. Some pros and cons gathered from previous discussions: (Probabliy biased due to my view on these topics, but I'll try to add stuff you people post here) Third Person PRO: Some people get massive headaches from unsing 1st person for a prolonged time. (Disabling headbob helps, but it seems it's still an issue) The game is somewhat clunky in first person The engine doesn't allows you to do stuff like raising your head to see over tall grass or over cover CON: Gives the unfair advantage of seeing over cover and corners without putting yourself at risk Gives the unfair advantage of seeing your whole surroundings while crawling on tall grass or on the top of buildings It's very unrealistic overall NameTags PRO: Helps with friend identification CON: Gives you the position of people you aren't actually seeing, sometimes through stuff and from very far away. Exploitable by sweeping your mouse arround to find people. Partially nullifies the effect camos, shadows and bushes have on the game Gives you the distance of a target, rendering rangefinders completely useless. If you don't think this data is that much valuable, try to snipe a target that is more than ~400 meters away with incorect zeroing on the editor (Some weapons like the DMR have no zeroing, so you have to rely on markers in the scope). Yes, this game has bullet drop. It's very unrealistic overall Crosshairs PRO: Some weapons have bad iron sights (Maybe drop those weapons then?) ??? (Being able to shoot from the already highly exploitable 3rd person view?) CON: Too accurate for long ranges (I don't really know because I don't use them) It's very unrealistic overall Maps showing player position PRO: ??? (GPS are too rare?) CON: Makes the GPS almost useless (Aside from being a cool minimap) Makes the compass 99% useless Makes navigating through Chernarus a trivial experience. Otherwise you would have to do stuff like looking at road signs, finding north through the "shadows + clock method" or through Stars (Really fun and immersive) Works like somewhat of a radar, showing zombies, players and vehicles Can be used to estimate the distance between you and your target (each small square on the map = 100m²) It's very unrealistic overall Waypoints PRO: They should be avaliable if you have a GPS (Could be just an arrow on the gps screen instead of a magical floating hud icon tho) CON: They can be used to find your position on servers wich do not allow you to view your position with a map, through trial and error Makes navigating through chernarus even more trivial It's very unrealistic overall Death messages PRO: Don't matter much since you can see the ammount of murders in the debug monitor. (Could be solved by delaying how fast this number changes or removing it altogheter) CON: Takes away the tension that is not knowing if a target is dead Makes the "Study body" feature useless in some cases It's very unrealistic overall (I know, but I can't help it) I think that this is all for now, I will edit it if people come up with more pros and cons that makes sense -
I am currently a very experienced player riding as a lone wolf. I want a clan where we can be trusted, raid, look for vehicles, counter snipe all that stuff. im a very mature 14 year old and my time is GMT -7 rocky mountain time. Skype name: Pvm.This Add me if your willing to join, im looking for mature, smart experienced players that i can TRUST PLEASE! (btw i am a brony ;)

Following OPs logic, every item/spawn location will eventually be too easy to find; so as a solution I propose we remove all loot spawns, vehicles and items from the game and run around screaming as zombies chase us...maybe add in some benny hill music.
-
Thanks, I'll get to blowing up vehicles straight away. Missile launchers are soooo hard to come by. For those of you who will just move your camp and aren't concerned about people like me, by all means, post the location of your camp. I understand there will be ambushes involved, but I have time.

Am I the only one with a near-perfect DayZ?
Aitloian replied to Inception.'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've always had a good experience playing dayz. Ran into one guy that was invincible but I got the hell out of dodge, never been a victim of a mass server kill or anything like that. Found many camps none of them not-legit. Never found any "vehicle hoards" only 1-2 vehicles at a time. Met lots of friendly people AND not friendly people and had great experiences with BOTH. Most of these "forum" problems I don't experience. That being said my roommate gets the weird graphic glitch its a simple simple fix hit your SHIFT key and the minus (-) key on your numpad and then type FLUSH (there won't be a chat box but once you type flush it will activate) Goodbye graphic glitch -
So what were they doing then? Other than getting 'wrong signature' errors, they did nothing. They didnt patch properly or did something wrong and a file gets damaged? Belive it or not, ive seen people with the same error for weapons, buildings, vehicles etc. So using YOUR logic, shall i get our server admin to ban all them too? Thats basicly what your saying, anyone with wrong signature errors are obviously hacking right?

vehicle "hoarding", what the hell is it?
ZomboWTF replied to Daddy'o (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
the problem is that the camps are often way out, and some vehicles are really hard to track, like bicycles and motorcycles normally vehicles spawn near buildings or streets, but when someone moves them to somewhere no one ever travels through, how the hell would someone find them? oh sure, someone says "lets go and search every forrest in chernarus to find a car" you really think someone would spend 50+ hours searching the whole map? also, the persons hoarding the cars often aren't even on the server, if the people hoarding vehicles would actually DRIVE them, i'd have no problem with that since its risky to drive around in the car, making you easier to track, but placing the cars at god knows where and never using them is like living in chernarus outskirts on a watersource and animals and saying "im teh best gamer of all times! i survived 50 days without getting killed!" edit: speaking in terms of your example, spots A,B, and C are easy to find and in places players tend to go, but D is almost impossible to find if not intentionally searching for hidden camps -
Yes, the thing is, it's really not hard to find these hoarded vehicles anyway. If ever I want one I just follow the coast up north and go around the fjord thingy. There has always been some (not one, some!) on every server I've checked. I just can't be arsed with them though, too much hassle to look out for, people seem to think they have this awesome spot that's never been found, but in reality, there's no place on the map like that. Sometimes their so far off I'd rather spend the time doing something fun anyway. Anyway, off to watch swamp people before bed! :D

How i would know the cheater's name? He could teleport the vehicles miles away from me. I'm not server admin or hoster, so i can't get the logs. And i said i had no proof about it.
