Suggestions/Feedback: gearing up, Z spawn rate, Z aggro types, post-geared objectives

GEARING UP I've been at it for a few weeks and I'm at the point where I find myself finding it much easier to gear up initially. This is mainly due to knowing where the better spawn locations are at in the game. You are just as likely to die at a low yeild loot point. Hatchets are easy. Despite the risk, when all you have is a single bandage it pays to visit your "friendly" supermarket, hospital and church. This likely gives you an ALICE, at least one gun, meds, food and drink. As soon as I can find matches (hatchet and knife are found much easier) I'm off the coast and head inland. Hatchets really need to be available as a secondary weapon. Crossbows need to have quivers of bolts as ammo. One per slot is crap. Especially with the handgun nerf. There needs to be more bicycles. Z SPAWN RATE Previously my small crew of 2-3 would case an area before moving in and killing the Zs there, then looting safely. Now as soon as they are either killed or kited away, they respawn. This gets you stuck in a never ending loop. Say what you will, this is not "realistic". Once a Z spawns in an area and is killed or moves away, it should not respawn for at least 5-10 minutes. Z AGGRO TYPES Zombies aggro from a tad too far out. Honestly before it was too low but this borders on ridiculous when coupled with the spawn rate. There should be more than one tier of aggro. For example take the current form of aggro which I'll call seek and kill. This is fine for close range. Not as close as it is now though. Sound can be used to draw Zs away, or pull them closer. This needs to be used on a wider range. Weapons need to attract zombies from much further away. Each additional shot should act like a ping confirming their location. Once close enough the Zs will seek and kill. This can be used to create a herd as referenced in The Walking Dead. It can alse deter snipers and bandits. Sure it's easy to pick off a few, but 10, 20, 50, 100 when each shot pings your location? Either way it's less ammo spent on the living. Looking into the distance and seeing a hundred Zs walking in a herd is priceless. Imagine so many that running away or fighting is futile and impossible. Just a wave of death. POST GEARED OBJECTIVES Lets face it. Going bandit is the only safe choice once geared up. The living tend to have more gear than a Z. Either way they would kill you first anyway. Some are against this but are forced into it anyway. So you visit the military camps for better weapons and you check the spawn points for vehicles. There needs to be safe havens where you can set up a base without pitching a tent. Take for example the castles. Radios are not utilised at all. Survivors should be able to find a fixed radio easily and ask for help. Transmission would be received at the closest base. Whether or not that's a safe haven or a bandit camp depends on who has captured the base. But when you're low on blood, food and water and you need help, you take the risk. They may come to save you, or loot you. Factions can materialise, camps attack other camps. If in the middle of that fight a herd wanders through it's even better. Do both sides fight each other or do they fight together for their lives. -
US1896 just went up, I saw many vehicles in their original spawns. The busses were even in chern and elekttro. Just figured I'd let some people know. Have fun (:

All of our vehicles (8 total) were teleported away from us including a helicopter that we were refueling. All that work gone. Why even bother playing? All this effort and even if we spent the 4 hours going thru logs (why is there no tool for this?) More support for the hackers than the players. Ban a hacker and get blacklisted. Blaming Battle Eye is ridiculous and passing the buck. The malicious scripts that are run in this mod need to be blocked unless they are legitimate scripts run at a system or kernal level of the game. I have never seen such hacking ever. Rocket seem to be not even bothered when he got Thunderdome-ed. Been Thunderdome-ed 2X. Been killed in server-wide nuke 3 X. I can go on with times I have been killed by blatant hacking. Hours of gameplay getting to a certain place and then dying to some clown, probably some pimply faced 15 year old running a script. Not picking up a gun and fairly shooting me. Running a txt file. As for the people that seem to be Devs or hired by the Devs to troll the good guys getting turned into Roadkill by the hackers. There are 45:1 Hackers to abusive admins. I have a video of some hackers that were AFK in God Mode that I burned off some clips on. I even RAN them over with a car, or just passed thru them. It seemed that they were dead, But they were probably preparing more scripts. How did I know they are not dead, they took the ATV that is next to them in the video. When I re-entered the game 10 minutes later that ATV was gone.. Great Game, but you cannot convince me that this will not happen with the finished product when the DAYZ devs are snubbing the players and the PAYING server admins. Even having people troll the folks who are complaining, but these complainers want to see this project succeed. No paying server admins, Not enough servers for the pubs and this project dies on the vine. Perhaps we should get the attention of the community and the Devs by and organized protest by picking a day and having all concerned admins shut down their servers for a 24 hour period. Lets see if they shut down my account for this one. The players are concerned hows about the Devs? -
mahatmajonny, what makes you think we didn't have some of the vehicles before day two? Also if I find something that I don't want, I leave it and write down the cords. in this case, the tractor and the yellow hatchback. Our plan was to move the base since you found it and I killed you. Also, this base was just a temponary base I did myself to get some items moved since our camp before got exposed as well. The white offroad had been ours for some days and was hidden on a diffrent location. Maybe you tought I spawned the bicycle cuz of the server restart. Since I was at the base when the restart went in and when the server came up I jumped on the bicycle we had at base. You would probaly say that I spawned the tractor if I used that instead directly after the restart..? For the future, please get real proof before you ban. Also, using hacked items is kinda lame yes. But the PDW SD isnt that diffrent from the M9. Also I looked at the dayz wiki and the pic of the PDW had a silencer on it. But still, you can't ban anyone using it.

Long answer: I have a ghillie, rangefinder, nvgs, svd camo, m16 with acog, ammo for both, m9 sd 5 clips, 5 bandages, antibiotics, blood, morphine, painkillers, coyote bag, I have a camp with additional m4 sd, lmgs, svds and other assault rifles. I got all the tools as well as water canteens. I can basically survive infinitely if I wanted with nothing left to strive for. I've had big camps, small camps, clan camps, vehicles, at one point I had 8 vehicles stashed INSIDE the map. I've raided camps, I've scoured the map left right up n down more times than a small clan of people put together. Short answer: Because there's nothing else to do. -
Are Vehicles/Tents Saving OffMap? I've been looking for some of the larger vehicles and have to wonder if anybody has managed to or seen vehicles/tents being saved offmap? Developers? Comments?

Sorry to hear about the scripts =\..I'm really just an insurance agent "not from Statefarm" and i don't know any thing about scripts but it looks like another language for me lol. Are the vehicles going to be wiped or are you not going to do anything about it and just let them despawn? My friends and I found two vehicles in the middle of no where. A red car GAZ which I didn't know was in the game and a white off-road truck. We took the truck and left the car because we didn't want to get introuble for having something that was hacked into the game. But keep up the good work! -
Ah, i have to add a little math task for you regarding the "hoarding" of vehicles. As i mentioned before, we are ~10 people. The server holds 40 players, so we are 1/4 or 25% of the server population. We have...let me think...usually 6 vehicles, sometimes they break, get lost, whatsoever....to make the maths easier let's say we have 5 vehicles. That means that 2 people share 1 vehicle. Are you hoarding when you and your friend have a vehicle? Are we hoarding just because all of us decided to park at the camp? It's still only 1 car for 2 players, not vice versa... Next: How many vehicles are on a server? I never counted them, but we know there are: Ural, Bus, Van, Hatchback, Offroad, UAZ, Landrover, Quad, Tractor, Motorcycle (2 versions), Bicycle. So far 12 Vehicles. Besides the Ural (1), and the Bus (2 i think) all vehicles spawn multiple times...lets say 3. Some may spawn less, some more. So if i take away the bus and the Ural we have 10x3 vehicles left. Plus boats. So altogether we may be around 40 vehicles, maybe some less, but generally you can say there is about 1 vehicle per player. We use 1 vehicle for 2 players. So we make 25% of the server population, but we only use 12-15% of the vehicles....hoarding? Stupid Accusation: 0 - 1 Simple math

Hm. Beans to you, OP. Although you should have started with removing tents and vehicle storage in the first place. That's the best idea on making survival a challenge I've seen yet. It would also help curb banditry, to be honest, as no one takes death seriously anymore and they now use tents and vehicles as what amounts to an "extra life". If every time you died your teammates had to sit next to your corpse to make sure no one steals from it or abandon all of your equipment to escape with their lives, I think the dynamics would change significantly for the better. I know that tents were originally designed to hold all of the extra stuff you couldn't carry, but at this point they've become an exploit (in so many ways). Removing them and forcing players to constantly keep moving in order to survive would keep things fresher.

My base, 5 land vehicles, 1 Helicopter, 1 boat, 15 Tents all fully filled with goodies and neatly organized and perfectly hidden, as well as 10+ other bases on other servers and other areas. We have 18 members so we need enough supplies for everyone.

US 651 - Hacking/Cheating of some kind

When we found your first camp is was a total fluke, one of our buddies had just spawned on the cost at " Kemenka " and headed directly north bushwhacking. We attempted to retrieve some vehicles, but due to a convenient server restart we lost them. When we headed back to the camp all the vehicles were gone, hmm I wonder what that means ? You relocated - obviously, so we search, and did not find your 2nd Camp for quite some time but eventually did find it. We stole a truck and a mini van from camp #2 and got away with them, We returned the next day to that camp and all the vehicles were gone. You relocated - obviously, so I made it my mission that day to find your new camp, and with that many vehicles it was obvious you did not go far, I headed directly north of Camp #2 and made it back to Camp #1 where you had left me a clue, all your previous tents had been squashed. so it was quite obvious you went this way, I eventually found a bike and bushwhacked for an hour or 2 and eventually found Camp #3 - I stole your helicopter, drove around for 10 mins and then conveniently another server restart, so I ran all the way back to your camp and obtained the helicopter again. LOOK AT THE MAP, LOOK HOW CLOSE YOU PUT ALL YOUR CAMPS, STEP YOUR GAME UP, IT DOES NOT TAKE A HACKER TO FIGURE THIS SHIT OUT <-- Sincerely.. Bear Grylls -
It's kinda funny that a guy who got help and vehicles from us tells everyone that we are duping and sharing coordinates of our camp. This shows that you are not really smart, cause as you mentioned, the shit in the tents is respawning and will equip dozens of players for free now...so tell me, who is worse now? To get some things straight: All those funny items and tents come from a buggy mod, not from us duping that shit. You know how many times we destroyed the tents and vehicles, just because we got bored of it? Is it our fault that everything is back there when the server restarts? I doubt it. We are about 10 people, so that should explain the high number of items...unlike you we are not walking up and down the beach and wonder why we don't find any military equipment there.... You are jealous because we know where to find stuff and you don't. That's ok. But stop blaming US for the broken mod. P.S. sorry for missing paragraphs, i'm on mobile phone and it's kinda weird. First of all you assume it was our group that messed with your camp 3 days in a row.... There for sure have been other groups that found your camp. We saw on the map people writing about your base that had nothing to do with our group. We came across your "hidden" camp only two nights ago. I myself personally found it after scouring the western forrest near the airstrip on a bicycle. You idiots had 6 vehicles hoarded WITHIN 100m OFF THE MAIN ROAD OF SOVNOVKA. If you took a second to stop crying about your camp being hidden you would also realise that we have been playing on this server for 3 weeks now and have combined put in over 100 hours on this server. Of course we are going to go in the outer forrests to search for Camps. I also know that you are either 10 years old or hacking because you state my name as a hacker? How are you coming to this assumtion when TAGS are off in this server??? Or is it because you are so stupid that when I write on the map "fear JRock" that you assume its me thats been at your camp 3 days in a row. Your little dispute with another group had nothing to do with us, I had just written Fear Jrock as a joke. This was before we had even had anything to do with your dumb unhidden camp. Again.... You had 6 vehicles "hidden" 100m from a main road. Learn how to play and maybe drive a little deeper in the woods next time. We really dont have to explain ourselves but this is just so ridiculous to call people hackers when your base was so easily accessible. What a joke. Yes it sucks you lost your vehicles, but learn from it and dont go running to the forums because you cant deal with the loss in game. If you get down on your knees and beg we will consider giving a bicycle back. -

im looking for a vehicle of anykind and i will trade an AS50 with 6 Mags for someone who is will to trade vehicle The only requirement is that it is on the server: US 312 phoenix We realize how hard it is to get vehicles but its also hard to get an AS50 so any dedicated sniper would take one

21 play throughs and he still uses group chat, cant tell the difference between helicopter crashes and unusable cars from usable vehicles yet manages to kill almost everyone he sees in his play throughs, while i do respect him and some of his videos are good hes just another person treating the game like CoD =\ -

I think zoom is a practical necessity to counter the low resolution on our monitors as compared to human eyesight. Even with the zoom, you could probably pick out detail at a distance more easily in reality than in game. I'd agree on this if there were more vehicles and bicycles, but otherwise getting around Chernarus is tedious enough as it is. Agreed, making zombies more of challenging to deal with is definitely needed. Unfortunately will be difficult to do well for as long as DayZ remains an ArmA 2 modification. -
