    NEW PLAYER GUIDE v1.0.2

NEW PLAYER GUIDE v 1.0.2 Updated with Dethrone this video...Clan suggestions/classifications,clarification edits, community stories,... I. FAST AND EASY THE GENERAL SOLO GAMEPLAY PATH..... These first 6 steps are a Quick start guide for players who want to read quickly and get right into the game. I suggest reading sections 2 and 5 for clarity on what you need for survival....I go into detail on game mechanics in the sections that follow it, incuding offering links to loot maps and the references that inspired the presented theories..... 1. You spawn....run to a major coast city or an airport whichever is closer to you search any loot spawns you encounter on the way as residential spawns drop the rare matchbooks...Airports have rare spawn weapons and items in the hangers and the main tower...cities have match books, larger backpacks, maps, axes hunting knives, handguns rifles ect check all the lootable houses sheds and outhouses you find the fire station has rare loot the industrial areas have barbwire and toolkits and the houses with wells and pumps can refill canteens..... 2. Before you leave a major city you should have a bigger pack, an hatchet a handgun a rifle a hunting knife and a box of matches at the very least....avoid other players like the plague...low crawl or crouch walk past zombies never shoot them in a city and get the gear you need then run for your life..... make sure you search the major cities hospital for 5 morphine and 5 painkillers and some spare bandages ....the boxes of supplies drop them infinitely if they are near empty take the items out from them or around them they will repop more medical loot.... 3. If you don't have a canteen by now you can find them on the road in the smaller cities get multiple canteens not just one getting one is a mistake noobs make....if you have multiple canteens you can go longer without needing to risk your life finding water and refilling them and when you do see water you can refill them all to full and take a drink I usually roll with a minimum of 4 canteens thus allowing me to avoid needing to get water for entire play sessions.... 4. Know how to conseve supplies....YOU NEVER EAT OR DRINK WHEN THE COLOR CHANGES only noobs do that...you are a survivalist you need food when your food or water flashes a deep red color...this indicates that within 15 minutes or so you will begin to bleed out till you die if you don't eat or drink...once your an ultra pro you can time it down to the second and take a swig of water or eat some food right before the timer ends thus conseving any food you have and spending hours of game time without needing food.....scrubs complain about food predominantly because they do not know this now you do...use that advantage....also every time you find a can of beans or soda immediately consume it keeping you at max hunger or thirst you will never carry beans or soda on you you max out your pack with meat steaks (see section V.) and your canteens only leaving room for other loot and ammo... 5. Now go hunt kill an animal take it's raw meat and cook it for infinite food to go with your infinite water.... 6. Decide your playstyle ....go live in the woods or the debug forest only coming out to hunt meat and refill water ....or, go shoot people to steal their loot...or, go help others to survive and combat bandits....you are officially now not a noob and only your decisions, hackers, game bugs and bandits can kill you..... I do most of this in the first hour of any game I died on with a week of practice you will too....go read the Day Z wiki memorize what buildings spawn what loot in cities and rural towns...profit... http://dayzmap.info/...p.info/ http://dayzdb.com/ma...9.053 http://www.wasder.ne...zor-d515453.png http://picacid.com/arma2/loot_en.html II. ITEMIZATION THE D0'S AND DON'TS FOR SOLO PLAYERS... Here are the only things you will ever NEED to pick up as a solo player... 1. a larger backpack - I suggest the 16,20 or 24 sloters 2. box of matches 3. hatchet 4. hunting knife 5. handgun- any calibur is ok but 45 prefered as 45 rounds can be converted for revolver or cartriges from the menu 6. rifle- (starter lee enfield).....anything you get past that should hold the most rounds possible to limit the ammount of ammo clips you need to carry and be ranged....shotguns are useless never pick them up except untill you can get a rifle they have no range and in a sniper situation your a deadman.... http://dayzwiki.com/....php?title=Loot 7. canteen- for infinite water 4 prefered less ok... http://dayzwiki.com/...p?title=Canteen 8. cooked meat steaks- for infinite food as many as you can carry after 3-4 main weapon ammo clips, 8 bandages 5 morhine and 5 painkillers and your canteens are in your inventory .... 9. morphine- 5 http://dayzwiki.com/...e_Auto_Injector 10. painkillers- 5 http://dayzwiki.com/...tle=Painkillers 11. bandages- 8 fewer if your using your handgun alot which I don't suggest. http://dayzwiki.com/...p?title=Bandage As a solo player these 11 items and the appropriate ammo are the only things you will ever need to carry consistently.... This is the final count in your non weapon inventory slots ... 1 morphine in main menu 1 painkiller in main menu 3-4 main weapon mags in main menu 4 canteens the rest of the slots are meat steaks in main menu The handgun menu has 4 bandages and 4 handgun clips or more clips if you need them minimal 2 bandages.... There are many packs in the game. You start with the Coyote Patrol Pack 8 slots, and can find larger and even a smaller pack depending on what your trying to accomplish. If your a sniper and your gears in your tent doning a Czech vest Pouch would help alot to lower your profile....but for the purposes of this guide I will assume you are a lone survivor with the bare essentials and describe the amount of extra blood you can carry in the 3 largest packs in the form of meat steaks.... The czech backpack has 16 slots, the alice backpack 20, and the coyote backpack 24 ... http://dayzwiki.com/...?title=Backpack Your items in these packs are the same regardless with just more room for meat in the larger ones... 4morphine, 4painkillers, 4bandages, the rest is cooked meat steaks .... a czech backpack............6-7 800 blood cooked meat = 4800 - 5600 blood the alce pack.......10-11 800 blood cooked meat = 8000 - 8800 blood the coyote backpack....14-15 800 blood cooked meat = 11,200 - 12,000 blood all of said blood is gained instantly on consumption..... http://dayzwiki.com/...php?title=Blood You can technically carry less emergency supplies and have even more instant blood available but the current ratio of gear is perfectly balanced and better for overal survival situations..... http://dayzwiki.com/...=Status_Effects III. ITEMS A SOLO PLAYER WILL NEVER CARRY...... 1. roadflares....you are a single survivor calling attention to your location with a road flare is about the dumbest thing you could possibly do never pick these up... 2. chem lights...see number one.... 3. heatpacks...they are absolutely useless....the only way you could get cold is... a.) playing at night when it turns 32 instead of the common 42 degrees...that said you can at any time go into a forest drop 2 meat steaks, gather wood from a tree, light a fire pick up the meat steaks and sit and warm yourself... b.) it starts raining....you can enter a building and you will regain your warmth automatically.... if you run in the rain use trees to break the rain fall and you will not lose temp as rapidly...also if you do stay in rain to long collect wood and start a fire indoors again...you will gain heat no use for heatpack taking space.... c.) go swimming for a long time...which is currently bugged...in deep water you will likely lose your pack and everything in it and if you do this for some stupid reason you deserved it....go heat yourself at a fire....dum dum d.) wind... negligible loss http://dayzwiki.com/...tle=Temperature 4. vehicle parts...you as a solo player have zero use for any vehicle drawing attention to yourself is the last thing you ever want to do...stay off of all vehcles bikes included you are just a snipers wet dream in a vehcle stay far from them they are for teams not you lone survivor... 5. anything else....nothing is needed for a lone survivor other then medical supplies and the food and drink items...you will only need to occassionally get pistol ammo cause it should be the only thing you use to shoot zombies, you should perdominetly stealth every town you enter...and your rifle ammo is saved for any bandits or snipers that target you at range....EPIPENS AND BLOODBAGS ARE FOR TEAM USE ONLY AND NEED ANOTHER TEAMMATE TO ADMINISTER THEM TO YOU NEVER WASTE INVENTORY SLOTS FOR THEM.....if you follow the above guide you are 100% self sufficient only a bad zombie pull or a random sniper headshot or hacker has any chance of killing you outright..... IV. LUXURY ITEMS.... There are cosmetic items in the game such as the camo and ghillie suit that are super rare and offer a slight site advantage which is largely negated by your name popping up in your enemies crosshairs and also a recent patch 1.7.2 addition the bear trap, as well as a plethora of vehicles and parts to said vehicles that you can find on the wiki, but none of these is essential for survival although they may make life easier or more fun....... The first 5 listed here are nice past that it is only needed if you want to build defences around your tent if you have a toolbox available, or in the case of the watch if you want to know what time it is on the server.... 1.Tent http://dayzwiki.com/....php?title=Tent 2.Map http://dayzwiki.com/...x.php?title=Map 3.GPS http://dayzwiki.com/...x.php?title=GPS 4.Compass http://dayzwiki.com/...p?title=Compass 5.Toolbox http://dayzwiki.com/...p?title=Toolbox 6.Wire fencing kit http://dayzwiki.com/...ire_Fencing_Kit 7.Sandbags http://dayzwiki.com/...?title=Sandbags 8.Entrenching tool http://dayzwiki.com/...ntrenching_Tool 9.Watch http://dayzwiki.com/...php?title=Watch 10.Bear Trap http://dayzwiki.com/...title=Bear_Trap V. HUNTING HOW TO AND ALTERNATIVE FOOD SOURCES.... 1. Get the following 3 items from a multitude of spawns in the game.... hatchet http://dayzwiki.com/...p?title=Hatchet hunting knife http://dayzwiki.com/...e=Hunting_Knife box of matches http://dayzwiki.com/...=Box_of_Matches 2. Go to a cluster of trees in a forest open your menu and select harvest wood (wood takes 2 slots in your inventory) 3. Go find a wild animal cows are great when you kill them they drop 8 meat steaks raw.... http://dayzwiki.com/...tle=Cooked_Meat 4. After you kill the animal walk up and select gut animal....collect the raw meat... 5.Go to a safe area and select your matchbook in your inventory and select create fireplace.... then walk up to it and scroll mouse wheel select light fire ....then walk to it again and select cook meat... 6. All the raw meat in your main inventory will be cooked backpack meat will not be cooked you have to have it in your main inventory. Comparing beans to cooked meat steaks a can of beans gives 200 blood a cooked meat steak give 800 blood and you can eat them one after the other and hunt down as many animals as you want. In fact once you have the 3 tools needed you should never ever have beans pasta or sardines in your inventory they are officially a waste of space you should stock up on meat steaks by hunting in safe pastures or hunt pigs in woods if too many bandits are about.... For further tips on where to get a box of matches which are the rarest of the three items follow the link to the official day Z wiki.... If for some reason you cannot get a box of matches and need food be aware of these two things..... 1. Supermarkets in game have a high rate of food spawn look in major cities for them and gather the food.. 2. Zombies have a decent chance to drop beans and soda ....lure them out of the city so they cant spawn help then shoot them in the head out of sound aggro range and check their bodies for loot.... you can stay healthy like this too make sure first that you visit a hospital and grab morphine pain pills and bandages just in case you get swiped unluckily and break a leg...note that patch 1.7.2 decreased the leg break chance but it is still a danger... http://dayzwiki.com/...p?title=Zombies VI. SURVIVAL THEORY.... ......Risk/Reward....... This is the number one theory in the game it is the basis of every move you make in the game. Whatever move you decide upon should be based on this theory if your goal is to maximize your play time. How do you enact this? I will give you a practical example... You spawn....what is your first move? I offered a general guide with basic principals but that is for beginers to have a basic answer to the question I just asked. If your an advanced player you need to think on the fly. When you spawn you have the least to lose, you have nothing of value to anyone and if you die you lose nothing this is your best time in the game. Your most advantageous move is to gain the most deadly weapon available as fast as possible. If you spawn in the vacinity of the costal airstrip it should be your first stop... Weaponless? Yes weaponless, what do you have to lose? If you die you respawn on the coast again you lost nothing if you get to a rare weapon first you gained everything. A rare weapon would be nice but law of averages denotes you are more likely to get an ak or an assult rifle...if you are very lucky you can come upon dead players that just battled it out and end up collecting an almost complete kit ...that said you have zero to lose. Do not walk run full speed to the main weapon spawn in the controll tower.... search each hanger in the back left corners there will sometimes be unique pistol spawned....also check the hospital camp infront of the airstrip... Your next risk reward decision is the value of your new weapon vs the chance of losing it to the noobs in the coastal towns...observe chat ask where people are dying and avoid that city...you want the opportuity to farm the most loot unhindered....try to always farm in a circular pattern looting the outside of the city inwards only moving further in if there are no gunshots suggesting a sniper or open conflict or possible zombie aggro that could be dumped on you.... These are the basic principals you will use the entire game....is what I have worth risking for a can of soda...9 out of 10 times the answer is no....your main game lasts only the first 1-3 hours that is when you make your most risky decisions because you have little if anything to lose... After you aquire a box of matches, hatchet, and hunting knife I would reevaluate my risk....with those 3 items the matchbook being the rarest you can make food infinitely with the cooking mechanic....there is far more risk involved in staying in a major city at that point and losing that key trifecta of items then in going into the interior and finding your canteen but the need to carry a good quantity of medical supplies is also a factor.....is there a lot of gunfire? How many people are dying and where. Was it pistol or sniper fire? Scan the rooftops the treeline and stay in a safe position.... You can ask people who died where they think the shot came from pinpoint the danger and avoid it... If the risk is too high take 3 morphine and 3 painkillers in your small pack and head inland...a larger pack and a few scattered medical supplies can be found along the way in residential areas...you can also take 6 morphine alternatively as painkillers are a far more common spawn inland then morphine... These are the key decisions for hours 1-3 past that after you have a new pack and have balanced it according to the guide above you have very little chance of death through game mecanics...your risk is now shifted to personal error and pvp.... Since the risk is largely determined by your desired playstyle I will end the guide there and offer a few suggestions. VII. SUGGESTIONS BASED ON INDIVIDUAL PLAYSTYLE... It is very easy to be very successful in this game I find the most risky activity in this game ultimately is the players desire to have fun. Once you can create infinite food and water anyone could easily live like a hermit in the woods but do you want to simply log on day after day hunting and refilling a canteen to gain leaderboard fame?.... If so, avoid all towns and cities, stay in a wooded area near water rarely traveled by people and you have basically beaten the game. Your only enemy are deadly terrain bugs, server glitches and server wide bombs from hackers so avoid any server plagued by hackers before attempting a leaderboard run and if you see many people dying in rapid succession for no apparent reason alt F 4 it is likely a server bomb also log out of severs before the day night cycle changes I have been killed several times by this change I believe it to be an unknown bug. If you desire action that is when I would highly recommend considering joining a clan or a trustworthy group if your going to play as a bandit increasing your odds of success and joining a clan is the least risky proposition. Alternatively you could decide you will be a solo bandit which is probably the most dangerous thing you can do in game.....currently each kill will cause people that slide their cross hairs on you to have an increased heart rate you are basically telling anyone that gets a bead on you that you can't see to shoot you on sight because you will kill them if you get the chance....the further you go into the interior the better loot but the more organized groups you find so farming the starter cities (or griefing depending on what camp your in) is probably the safest bet for a bandit, camping the coastal airport is also a good alternative. The last option is being a helpful player or a medic....I heard Rocket discuss a player in an interview that has 2 body guards that travels from server to server offering medical aid....obviously playing nice... is about as risky in this game as being a solo bandit....if you don't care about your safety you can trust people...alternatively you would be much safer joining a clan and healing your trusted friends..... The most important thing to remember when playing this game is you will die.....the best weapon you have will run dry....the ghillie suit will be lost....but your gonna have the time of your life getting it all back and learning from each and every mistake along the way.....good luck VIII. CLAN SUGGESTIONS.... Many players new and old are eager to join others in an attempt to survive the horrors of the zed apocalypse... In order to have a more centeralized location for that to happen I want to add a section in this guide where clans can be evaluated by the community and posted here for player convenience and listed based on their specific merrits/playstye. If you are in a clan of 20 or more active players please post a note in the reply section that details what your clan is interested in finding in prospective recruits and links to your webpage or play sessions on youtube or twitch.tv. I will classify add or remove clans from the main post based on community feedback. However I do not want this to degenerate into a flame war so keep any negative commentary brief and to the point or your post will be refered to a moderator for deletion or action... In the Clan section are a few Clans I found online browsing, I will add to the list as more are submited, I will rank them on the following values ... High Production Values (HPV ) = a website or forums availabe to the public or they produce entertaining webisodes on youtube or twitch.tv Legion (L) = 100 or more members Youtube (Y) = a presence on youtube Twitch.TV (TTV) = they stream gameplay on Twitch.TV Server (S) = they run their own Day Z server Professional (P) = they are sponsored or partake in national or international tounament scene, obviously this will be for other games atm but who knows what the future holds once Day Z launches in stand alone form note the clans are listed in no particular order also if any of the previous qualifiers are unknown to me I will not include them next to the clan links, if they become available in the future, or if I left an appropriate tag off, notify me for edit... (without quoting the entire initial post please) CLANS 1. {SAS} Clan HPV,L,S http://www.thesasclan.co.uk/ 2. New World Order / Synthetic Gaming HPV,Y,T nwogaming.com (note their site was down for maintenance when I attempted to view it but their youtube states they are recruiting) Feel free to evaluate them and their recruitment process and offer feedback as well as promote your own clan in the comment section....be aware only actively recruiting clans will be posted in the main section as this is ment as a resource for players looking for others to enjoy the game with...( I might add a video of the week section after the next update for funny vids and machinima let me know what you think...) IX. Dethrone this Video... 2 Videos enter one video leaves.....vote for the funniest in the poll and post your challenger for the funniest fan video in the comment section.... http://youtu.be/s8i-EG1P_fA Continue to post your stories of survival and give me your beans ....lol...... I will edit this post continualy for clarity and as changes are made in the game in future patches.....

    DayZ Stories

Man these are all such great stories lol. This was just the thread I was looking for. I have a few to tell and will do so in one post. Now, I don't refer to myself as a seasoned DayZ player at all. I've known about and had the mod for quite a few months, but as far as play time goes, I probably only have about 1 month of total accumulated play time. So these stories may not impress many, but I hope that some newer players share my appreciation of these tales. Story 1: This one is about my first experience with DayZ. Might I add before I get started, my first experience with DayZ was probably a lot better than most other players. I began on the shore (big surprise). Not any shore though. Had I known the value of spawning in cherno at the time, I may have been much more excited. Instead I was scared out of my mind. It was pitch black and all I had was a Makarov, some food, some drink and some med supplies (as you can tell this takes place in an earlier version of DayZ). I made my way into the city cycling through all the different gear and learning how to use it. That was when I discovered the purtiful flares and began chucking them all over the place just because I could. After about half an hour of trying to naavigate and avoiding the moans and screams of zombies I was about ready to give up on the mod because it seemd like an epic fail at trying to make a cool zombie mod as always. But I decided to log off for the night and give it a try the next morning, as I was half asleep and could not grasp the concept of what to do. So the next day after watching some beginner guides and what not I finally began making progress. Skipping through a series of boring and almost failed loot attempts I found myself in the middle of Cherno where the statues are and next to the red brick style church. I was in the tall building with the big open lobby at the bottom with glass all around (kinda hard to explain). In a nutshell I was pinned down by a horde of zombies that apparently were too stupid to come around through the front doors. They just surrouneded the buildings. I picked off a few of them occasionally, but was quickly running out of ammo for the lee enfield i had found in there. Finally I fired my last bullet for both my lee enfield AND my makarov. I didn't see a way out and was just about to jump into the horde of zombies and die when a shot rang out. Zombies screamed... Another shot... and Another.. 3 more.. the shots continued and the zombies dropped like flies. The shots finally stopped, and with a bright light and a choir, my rescuer stepped through the front doors of the building looking like a boss with his Alice pack and 1866 Winchester shotgun. I was scared yet happy at the same time. I asked if he was friendly after thanking him for what he did. After a painful silence he finally replied that he was friendly. Skipping through our journey through cherno myself and the Swedish savior (i've come to call him "the viking".. yes that is a Robazz "king of sweden" reference). Anyways we were now moving inland. I felt extremely secure with this survivor as he had great gear, including NVGs, a map, GPS, hunting knife, blood bags etc. Apparently he ran into the corpse of a very unlucky bandit and scored the awesome gear. After a long long journey we finally made it to the NW airfield where we did NOT find NVGs or a GPS for me. It was alright though. Along the way i found an 1866 of my own along with medical supplies, an m1911, a large coyote pack, map, binocs, etc. I'll end this story here because nothing very interesting happened after this, as we both logged off and never saw each other again. Thanks to him though, my first experience with DayZ was an epic one. To tell you the truth, if it wasn't for him, I would have given up completely on the mod. Thank you "viking warrior". I hope wherever you are, that you are still living strong, and have not succumb to the infection, nor blood thirsty bandits, thank you for all that you did for me. Story 2 This is is a shorter one, Just wanted to share this randomness. Recently I was playing with a friend of mine who is new to DayZ. And now having a good amount of experience under my belt, I was doing for him, what "the viking" mentioned above did for me. We both were on fresh spawns tho but I was teaching him the best ways to remain unseen and unheard. We came across the construction site in Cherno and with it, a double barrel shotgun. I picked it up and immediately fired off a round at an aggroed zombie, courtesy of my newbie friend. this aggroed 4 others. We made ur way to the top of the site and took out 2 zombies while doing so. The other two were making their way up. I only had one shot left. I hear footsteps above me and my friend. I look behind me to see an unarmed survivor climbing down from the highest part of the construction site. He turns around and pauses for a moment before saying "Oh.. helloo.." as innocently as could be, as if he didn't even hear the 3 blasts from my shotgun just seconds earlier. Not wanting to waste my last shot my friend and i head up the ladder he just came down. The two zombies were just below us now, on the same level as this unarmed confused survivor. I hear grunts down below but they aren't the zombies. It's the survivor with an open mic, throwing chemlights at the zombies saying "take that" and "chase the light!"... After having a good laugh I tell him to get his butt up the ladder. He doesn't listen. I yell for him to come up as a zombie is now face to face with him. The zombie swings at him *BANG!!!*.. I use my last shot to drop the zombie before he injures the survivor. Frustrated I tell him to come up the ladder. After doing so he asked if we wanted to see something cool. I humored him and said sure.......... He sprints full speed off the side of the construction site and falls to the ground instantly breaking his legs and becoming unconcious. Thinking he's dead I go down and check his body for loot. Nothing.... After a minute or two of my friend ad i cracking up at his stupidity and randomness his body begins to move back and forth followed by "RAAWWRRR I'M A ZOMBIIEEEEE"... I was now in tears laughing so hard. After that he tells us he's going to the store and asked if we wanted anything. After respectfully declining he runs off and I follow him to see what mischief he is going to cause. He runs up to the first zombie he sees and calls out "Look what I found!!!" My friend and I let him aggro all the Zeds in the area before continuing our search for loot. Minutes later we see his name pop up, saying he was killed. R.I.P comedy guy... Even in an apocalypse, he still managed to have fun and die happy. My hat goes off to you. Story 3 I will try to make this one as quick as I can. My eyes are growing heavy and I have to be up in three hours lol. After starting a fresh spawn I slowly make my way through Cherno. So far the loot has been terrible. Nothing but empty cans. I go to the fire station in Cherno to hear gunfire. I lay prone in the front of the station as dozens of zombies swarm the area, stepping on me, tripping over me, but all the while not noticing me. They suddenly disappear marking the panic d/c of the player inside the fire station. I enter and manage to find a double barrelled shotgun with some slugs. The rest of the loot was not ideal. A heatpack and some other useless junk. So I make my way to the church where the loot was just WAITING for someone to find. In the church I found a map, binoculars, extra bandages, more slugs, food, a canteen, a hunting knife, and a box of matches. I have no idea how all of that got there but it did and I was extremely happy. I decide to hit up the convenience store before heading inland towards the NW airfield. I find some more food in the store (go figure) and another pair of binocs, which I leave for another lucky survivor who passes through. Now I decide with the gear I have (including the hatchet I forgot to mention that I picked up before the fire station) that I can begin heading to the NW airfield and check out what's there, maybe I could score some NVGs or a GPS. So As I make my way out of the store and on to the road next to it, avoiding Zeds of course, (no im not british I just prefer calling them Zeds lol) Right in front of me, like a light shining down from the skies, sits a pickup truck. Expecting disappointment I hop in the driver's seat and find that the fuel tank is FULL. I start 'er up and take off feeling glorious. I get near balot and the artifact glitches kick in. So I stop and check out the gear in the truck while contemplating what to do. In the gear of the truck there's food, an AKS, an AKM only one AK mag, 6 jerry cans, an m249 belt and a few other items I can't remember. Excited I get back in after saving it and try to make my way down the road despite the artifact glitches. Didn't work out too well.. I crashed into damaged vehicles and broke the engine of the vehicle. Frustrated I logged out for the night. 2 days later I log back in, and find myself on the coast somehow much further west of Balota than I was, with all my gear, but no truck. I figured it was for the better as having a working vehicle is more of a death sentence than a blessing. the only thing I care for about vehicles is storage. I could care less about driving around I just want a place to store all of my items that I can't afford to carry around all the time. So anyways after 5 minutes my vision gets blurry and grey. Confused I notice my blood decreasing. Somehow I was bleeding!!! I bandaged myself and it stopped at less than 7,000 blood. Conveniently enough there was a cow, across the street. Killed it, gutted it, cooked and ate the meat and got back up to 10,000 blood with some meat leftover. After awhile I made my way to stary sobor where i traded out my previously acquired lee enfield for an AKM. I also found a few other goodies including a military flashlight. After Stary I made my way to the NW airfield finding a helicopter crash along the way. At the airfield I found two dead bodies. One of which had an Alice pack which I hastily took off of his lifeless corpse. I then made my way back down to Novy Sobor to meet a friend. After we found each other we headed to the military encampment at Stary Sobor, finding a SECOND helo wreck between novy and stary where we found him a DMR. After stary we began heading back the the NW airfield and logged off at a deer tower just north of Stary Sobor. Earlier tonight I made a run into Novy to see what I could find. A whole lotta nothin is what I found. On the way back to the deer tower, I stumbled across a bicycle hidden in the trees. And hidden BEHIND the bicycle was a tent, filled with more food, medical supplies, an M16, an M4A1 and one of my favorites, an M4A3 CCO.. I grabbed that one and swiped 11 of the 17 30rnd STANAG clips that were stashed in the tent as well. I grabbed some other little goodies, saved the tent, saved the bike, and then rode the bike back to where the deer tower was and logged off... I know have a quiet yet effiecient means of transportation as well as reliable storage for all of my gear. This is going uite well for me. I have had this character for almost a week and while ive had many close calls with both zombies and players, I am still going strong and finding better equipment as I go. Story 4 Ok I forgot about this one and I will make it very short. Before I made the character mentioned above I had another one that eventually died... I was unconcious bleeding out. Was all the way down to about 2000 blood. It was night time, my vision was blurry and pulsing. I could barely see 10 meters in front of me. I had a hatchet and a pile of wood and raw meat... all I needed was matches.. I made my way into a tiny village (not sure where it was) but I was able to get into the only building that could be entered. It was a house with only ONE loot pile in it. And In this SINGLE building with a SINGLE loot pile there JUST so happened to be a box of matches. I cooked meat ate a good feast, was back to about 9000 blood and logged off. The next day I logged on, found an ATV which had a jerry can on it, filled it with fuel, rode off into the sunset, and minutes later was knocked unconscious by 2 zombies when i became greedy and entered a small shack in the middle of nowhere. i died shortly after. oh well lol teh above character is going much better... Anyways sorry for the ridiculously long post but thank you for taking the time to read it.. i can barely type anymore lol good night everyone...
  4. Isn't that why you have Arma 2? I mean seriously just start that game up, you get all kinds of guns and vehicles.
  5. SillySil

End game and itchy trigger finger.

Endgame is when you have piled up so much loot and vehicles that there is nothing else to find, so you mess around with people or just hunt.
  6. To clarify; When I say "markers", I don't mean the markers each player can create on the map. I mean that every tent, player and vehicle was marked with different colors on the map and you could see players/vehicles moving. So yeah, that's a hack. The server.log file is 500 MB so pasting that here won't work. I've tried using the server parser, but it feels slightly incosistent in it's results. I get stuff like: Line 11861818aa12 and Line 15693887Teleport aa12 I have no idea what is whilst teleport is fairly self explanitory. Then again when I go into the log file and searc up line 15693887, I can see the actual script but I can't find the player name.
  7. Hi, during a loot-trade of a few tents on the northern edge of the map, there was a combat with members of the clan SB (SB Mortar). The location of the combat changed from their old to their new base durring the time. This base consisted of almost all vehicles, a heli and two weapon boxes with cheating stuff. The person tried to destroy most of all it until we stop them. We assume that these things allmost all are caused by cheats. It didn't look like a random base, more like a planned, including inventory. The rarity of the vehicles didn't match to set of the stand-server. We claimed serious suspicion of creation of loot by scripts. As consequences, we banish the people of SB from our server. greetz Rgm137
  8. DE 1671 - hosted via PGS - online since Friday - 5 days now - still no vehicles
  9. Gogster im a sniper but I can see how the game is better for all involved without the high end stuff. Canyou reply to my previous comments "Gameplay with say, the CZ550 is much more enjoyable for all involved. Snipers have to up their game to get one hit kills and disable vehicles. Headshots, and hitting vehicle drivers etc. Generally when sniped by a CZ you are down, often unconscious and often with broken legs, you get a really scary few minutes where you have a chance to crawl away and patch yourself up. This is the sort of excitement that makes Dayz. From the attackers perspective they often then either have to close to finish the kill, or send in a team mate to do the job. This opens up the game play for the victims team mates. Both sides are drawn together , tactical options open up, risk on both sides goes up, but the encounter is also potentially longer and more interesting" As far as I can see it's pretty obviously win win.

    Good vs Evil

One thing that is infiniatley annoying in this game is the fact that people who want to just kill everyone for their stuff go unpunished, this really sucks.... I just spent 2 hours collecting stuff, finally found a telescopic hunting rifle then quit the game thinking i could come back later and play. I came back to find the server almost full and decided to continue to the next town only to be slaughtered by someone i have no idea where they were but thats that, they win I lose. You could take the stance that the real world would be like this in an apocalypes but I'm sure you would agree that there is alot that would be different to this game in an apocolyspe, ie you could search every house, there would be soooo many more vehicles, killing a zombie with a hatchet would be so much easier etc.... THE POINT IS if humanity can survive by being evil and just killing anything that moves including good people then why wouldnt you? you need desperatley to penalise players who kill, and your idea of adding physical blemishes to represent bad character (scars, lines and expressions) is stupid because you never get to see the face of your killer, I'm goping to spend the next 2 minutes thinking of a better way and get back to you.... DONE, cause the players to have higher zombie attraction, and make it so the zombies can see them from further away, that would definatlety work and you could say its because the zombies sense evil or some shit. Do you want my bank account number?? :)
  11. I'm having exactly the same issues on 1.7.2.5… Helicopter doesn't save its position, items, or state of repair (goes back to spawn positon on restart with 5 soda cans and unrepaired) Tents don't save items after the first save (and that first save has to be by the owner of the tent) Other vehicles keep location and repair state but don't save items We can live with the vehicles and tents, but the helicopter not holding position or items is a little frustrating when you've spent hours repairing it.
  12. Well disabling tents and resetting everyone would get rid of the duping problem. Actually you would need to reset the vehicles as well. But if you did those 3 things Day Z would go back to how it was. I for one would love that. As for people being upset, this is a alpha, I've played loads of beta where your characters get wiped all the time, its part of Beta testing. One thing I don't understand is why this isn't being done on a regular basis. I doubt that the stats Rocket is getting from this alpha are of any use atm because of the rampant duping. It seems pointless to keep running "The Experiment" when the data is tainted. Lets wipe it all and get back to basics. :D

    Resetting Map

Yeah i have buildings on my server that i never saw before, so i think some hacker spawned them in. there were so many hackers on my server cause of a live streamer, and now there are more vehicle ingame as there should be, there is an C130J somewhere on my map. And last but least, i need a new map due the duping tents and vehicles. Im at Vilayer 2 and i will go to their TS today to solve that problem.

No vehicles spawning on new server.

any of you get vehicles yet?
  16. I suck with most of the marksman rifles in game, but considering the realism aspect of this game, it poorly reflects the usefulness of extremely large bore rifles. In the real world, rifles like the AS50 are a pain in the ass to carry around, and are drastic overkill in any anti personel situation. The ammo is heavy and takes up a lot of space, and taking an accurate shot from any position but prone is A) wildly inaccurate at any signifigant range B ) painful. These rifles were designed to stop vehicles and heavily armored targets. Maybe if they tweaked the weapon's in game characteristics, it would reflect effectiveness more accurate to the real world, and you wouldn't see nearly as many people lugging anti-tank rifles to the top of the Cherno factories. .338 Lapua Magnum is about as big as the United States goes when it comes to killing humans, as anything bigger is usually huge and restrictive. In Arma, you are just as mobile with an AS50 as you are with an MP5.
  17. Using Alt-F4 to defend the 50 cals is a completely flawed argument. Quitting out in combat is not legit, this WILL be fixed. The realism argument is a bit of an odd one in a zombie apocalypse , but I agree in principal, this weaponry just doesn't fit in with the zombie apocalypse theme to my mind. I'd rather see things feeling more like "The Road" than "Rambo". Finding a m16 in a deer stand feels pretty wierd to me, but finding a CZ550 would feel much more in keeping. Sniping however is a valid tactic and adds an important dimension to the game. Overwatch for one. It def needs to stay. I'm a sniper myself. Gameplay with say, the CZ550 is much more enjoyable for all involved. Tents/vehicles not saving gear

Yes, to make sure tents and vehicles store items you should downgrade to 1.7.2.4 again. Yesterday evening I spoke a server admin who found this same problem and they downgraded after which all the problems were solved. The 1.7.2.5 patch was intended to fix the graphical glitches, but causes way more problems instead (and still doesn't fix the artifacs).

  21. While playing on US 947(1.7.2.4) and multiple times (near Sonichiny), I would encounter a player named Carbonewt. The first encounter, I was playing with a friend, and we saw a helicopter in the distance fly directly to us (we were hiding in a field near the gas station), and he landed, said he was ditching the helo, then once we got in, he blew it with explosives. I then respawed (by the grace of God) near Three Valleys, and I made my way back north since I had some decent equipment. Here I started hearing bus horns, and I was in the middle of the woods, but here comes a bus driving right to me. It was of course Carbonewt again. When this time I did not get in the bus and instead kept running, he then began to fire at me, killing me slowly by taking pot shots at my legs. I also had some friends who were trying to meet up with me who witnessed the helicopter landing and subsequent explosion. While I was respawning, they reported that immediately after that, another helicopter began flying over. Clearly he is spawning in vehicles and is able to locate players on the map, despite the fact that it was a veteran server. I unfortunately do not have any ability to capture visual evidence, but really all it takes is a few minutes playing in that area of the map on this server. I hope these sorts of exploits will be solved sometime soon, really hurts the feel of the game. This happened at about 00:30 PST.

    Tents/vehicles not saving gear

So basically, I should revert back a patch if I want my server to function with using vehicles and tents? I mean they are a part of the game and not just a little part...
  23. Patience, instinct, maybe a bike and enough food and drink. Then search for hidden vehicles along the northern and western edge of the map. We're still looking, though.^^
