Are the number of hackers increasing?
Derpy_Hooves (DayZ) replied to MperorM's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hacker teleported every vehicle on my server last night to the north of Cherno, unfortunatley for him i was in the legit chopper with my crew, when we landed next to him and got out, he lasted all of about 5 seconds, got killed then banned, so we put a server wide message up telling everyone on the server that all the vehicles were there and to help themselves. (after we got rid of all the hacked and duped gear of course!) Never felt better to be honest! -
Pretty much this. Also, only the ATV has issues with bridges. I regularly hoon across bridges at 100kph on my motorbike and nothing ever happens. Also, the motorbike and pushbike are the best vehicles in the game. pushbike has 0 storage space, but self repairs. It's silent, extremely fast on and off road, but very fragile. The motorbilke has AMAZING fuel economy, goes upwards of 50 offroad, sometimes up to 70 on grass and up to 100kph on a bitumen road. It only has 5 storage slots, though.

All Items in vehicles disappear after server restart
Djabber replied to KLM's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Yep, upon server restart vehicles got teleported back to their "original" position in their "original" state (e.g. they had to be repaired again and all loot gone) -
+_1 beans to this guy and Op, i cannot tell you how lame this thread is. You play on a private hive (lawl) to hoard gear and vehicles off the map? clearly people just don't understand what Dayz is meant to be about.

1.7.2.5 Tents and Vehicle Inventories not saving.
Vittek replied to NocturnalS1n's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
How about this: Downgrade to 1.7.2.4, get all vehicles into a camp, fill it with goodies. Then save everything and update to 1.7.2.5 and voila, you now have a camp that cannot be destroyed cause everything will reset back after a restart. The hive is fucking you? well fuck it right back. -
If you are reading this then you probably know about all the vehicles being spawned on the coast on AU32. Well, I died from crashing one these vehicles and spawned. I promptly spawned near Cherno and met up with a player. Still angry with losing my gear (GPS, NVG's, M16A4 SD) I sorely wanted it back. When I met this player I stole a makarov from his pack and killed him. His name was Gumby. Gumby if you're reading this, I'm sorry for killing you, Message me on Steam if you would like to arrange something. Oh and on AU32 113,120 is where a large stash of vehicles are, even two choppers. Go nuts, By the way, watch out for a bus it's got military grade bandits on it.

1.7.2.5 Tents and Vehicle Inventories not saving.
Kraegan replied to NocturnalS1n's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Guys I will only say it one more time. Downgrade your server to 1.7.2.4 then all your issues with vehicles and tents will be solved! I also don't like that new updates are slow, that devs don't talk to us and so on. But there is one really easy solution. Downgrade! Or maybe I should say UPgrade to 1.7.2.4. If you stay on 1.7.2.5 you will keep whining and nothing will be solved. You will have to wait for a real patch. And who knows if the next patch fixes anything. This one didn't. Hell they didn't even test this patch for 5 minutes and yet they released it. And all you dumb folks immediately goes on to be the best in class and upgrades your servers to a shitty version. Downgrade and have fun while waiting for a good patch. Problem solved. -
More Secure/Permanent Means of Item Storage
Blakbewwy replied to ThuggleS's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I love solution one, or POSSIBLY even two. Not three though, seems a bit weird. Because, at the end of the day, there's one massive and unfixable flaw in DayZ which takes away from the realism. The fact we cannot be online 24/7. In real life, we do not simply log off and come back on later. In real life, groups would take shifts and similar to guard vehicles/tents and make sure they aren't spotted. Since this is virtually impossible to do in DayZ unless someone somehow never leaves the computer for several days, we do need to implement some sort of unrealistic (possibly) feature to counter our offline status. However, I think simply digging a hole and making it look similar but not identical to the surrounding area would be a brilliant idea. It's perfectly feasible and realistic, and means we don't have to shove our vehicles in bushes and trees - who would do that!? - to prevent them from being discovered. Shower of beans! -
Yes, I'd love to spend a week getting all my rare gear and vehicles back, it's such fun having all my work wiped off like a clean slate. /sarcasm off, hackers will have their stuff back in minutes. Enough said.

Mod reached it's peak... See ya in full game
skyter replied to FrostDMG's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
pretty sure the last three updates broke gillies, broke tents, broke vehicles, caused artifacting, caused stuttering, broke and re-fixed zombies two or three times... these are pretty good indications it isn't exactly practical to even move seriously forward with the mod at this point when the standalone is in production. It's like patching a ship and having another hole pop up next to it. Be thankful he's spending any time on it at all. -
I wish we could shoot out of vehicles? I REALLY want to make a bandit bicycle gang XD

I created a Lingor Island server with acex_sm installed. Running smooth but need more people to test it. west coast players preferred as the server is in oahu, HI. Ping might not be showing correctly but west coast users should get around a 90 ping. come to the website http://dayzoahu.webs.com and register and head to the forums to get the links for the mod. hope to see u there. Trying to find bugs and work them out before i share my configuration with others. also read the faq because it changes alot of things in the game. also doubled the amount of zombies that will spawn around you. Thanks. PS - This is a private hive so all character data is saved locally. PLease please please please please
Thadeum replied to bauersteg's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You can install this quick patch to have guns firing out of your vehicles: patch is here -
Considering how lame vehicles are implemented right now, I could not bother less if all the vehicles on all the servers were hoareded off the map.

DE10 - Server Thread <(^-^<) <(^-^)> (>^-^)>
wh1tey replied to caspar's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
no, no. i mean the tents are completely gone, not empty they dont stand there were we placed it. that the tents and vehicles dont save ur equipment that u put in after a server restart is another bug that should be fixed at the beginning of september 2012, i hope so they will. -
The fact that you do this is disgusting to me. The fact that you use a zone of the map that was never intended for play in order to secure yourself and your buddies vehicles and weapons is basically destroying any chance of others enjoying themselves in your server. The game was designed so that vehicles were not something you kept and hoarded forever. They were high value, difficult to fix, and easy to steal. It's a rewarding feeling when you're traveling through the woods and find someone's well hidden UAZ stock piled with guns. The chance is low and that luck and, for the other player, bad luck are all part of the game. Gain and loss. But you chose to destroy that. You remove all risk. It's part of the game, losing your stuff, your vehicles, having to start fresh without a place off in the middle of nowhere so you can call up your pals and say "Hey, fly over with the Heli we've had for month that no one else has gotten to fly and bring me back to camp so I can get my AS50 and L85 back." While not technically a place that players can't get to, those of us who play with the idea of staying true to the game and its intended design will not be wandering thousands of miles in the middle of nowhere just to see if someone set up a camp out there. By doing this, you are destroying the playing experience of everyone else on your little "private hive" server. I'm sure everyone else loves having no vehicles to find or enjoy while you hoard them all in your "safe zone" running around fully geared no matter what happens to you. I'm glad you play an a private hive actually. See you never, friend.

Death every time I get something nice
Edward b replied to Lonewolf5764's topic in New Player Discussion
Problem: You're inexperienced Solution: Play the game The next time you spawn in, I suggest you grab a hatchet as soon as you can and head to Cherno or Elektro. Break into a hospital and grab as much morphine, bandages, and painkillers as you can carry (make sure you have enough room for food and water, of course.) Get the hell away from there and head to the Balota Airstrip (west of Cherno) and loot the hangers and control tower. If you're feeling brave, go into the army camp that you'll see just before the airstrip and take whatever you can from the towers. Head north from Balota, following the main road (stay inside the treeline with the road in your sight at all times) until you reach the next town. You'll run directly into a supermarket where you can find everything else you need to survive, but sometimes the supermarket is a bit glitchy (there will be, literally, nothing inside it.) Look around town until you find a canteen and then head back to the market if it was glitched to check up on it. If it's still glitched, I recommend that you change servers simply because this is a glitch that you cannot fix and can be a real nut punch later. Get offline, do something else for an hour, then get back on. If it's glitched on that server too then fuck it- you've got better things to do. At this point, it's best that you loot barns and other farm areas for equipment you'll need to make a fire so you can cook meat (in all, you'll need matches, a hunting knife, and a hatchet) from the animals you hunt. Keep moving around but try to stay north while hunting deerstands until you find a good military grade weapon such as the Mk Mod 0. Do not, I repeat, do not use an AK or a Lee Enfield unless you like dying. A Lee Enfield will kill anything you hit, but there's a reason it's called the Dinner Bell. The AK takes three shots to bring down a zombie- you don't want that for what you're about to do. You want an Mk Mod 0 because you get 100 rounds per mag and it takes down zombies in one hit. Go to the nearest castle and loot the fuck out of that place, but be warned: players will often hang out there. I recommend that you be on a low population server unless you're willing to risk your ass. Hopefully you'll get something useful (a map, a tent, binoculars, etc.) If you don't have a tent, get on over to the NW Airfield and loot the shit out of that place until you have one. Go tot he DayZWiki to see how to get there and not get a bullet to the skull. Find a remote(ish) location and set up your camp. It's best if you find a place near some bushes or other terrain that would make it hard to spot from multiple directions unless you were to walk directly on top of it. There's one place in a field near Balota that would be perfect, but the problem is that there is no marking terrain (it's a huge fucking field) that will help you figure out where your camp is once you set it up. This problem is rectified by finding a GPS. Above all else, you'll probably need NVGs. However, you'll probably get killed trying to find them. This is why I suggest you make a camp first- you probably won't lose everything. Put away all but the most basic equipment (you'll only need beans, bullets, and band-aids) and begin searching for a helicopter crash site. Try to find a low population server that restarted not too long ago; otherwise you only increase the odds that a (skilled) sniper will take you out. As stated earlier, be able to look out for subtle clues that indicate player presence- zombie spawns and dead bodies. If you ever come across a dead body, get down and head to the nearest treeline. Take your binoculars (or sniper rifle, if you found one) and search everywhere for the tell-tale signs of a sniper. Set your view distance as far as possible and put shadow detail on high. You should watch out for any movement- poor snipers will search for targets via their scope, thus causing their gun barrel and legs to move. A smart one will use freelook and so only their head will move (and just barely at that.) Above all else, you need to develope a KoS attitude. When you're in the North, the concept of "friendly" goes out the window. Their survival means more to them than yours- you need to adopt the same attitude. You don't have to kill everyone you see, but I strongly recommend that you kill anyone who is coming towards you (even if they don't see you) or is dangerously close to your camp. Don't kill someone who is in the general area of the camp- they'll know you're in the area and may come looking for you, and then may stumble upon it! Whenever you do kill, hide the bodies. It doesn't matter if it's an animal, a zombie, or a player. As far as you're concerned, only a player will cause the death of anything. Other players will have a similar attitude and you can expect they'll be looking out for bodies as well, so you need to hide them once you have what you need. Be on the lookout for zombies in random places- except for towns, castles, and deerstands, zombies will not spawn in the wilderness. If you see a lone zombie wandering about, then there's a good chance that a player just escaped them. I recommend that you head the opposite direction because you're unlikely to find the person and there's no use in risking getting seen- he'll probably be checking his back every now and then and may catch a glimpse of you. This leads to the most important thing of all: observe your surroundings. Abuse the freelook system- you're going to need it to survive. Maintain situational awareness by checking the area beside and behind you, or you may get a nasty surprise if you log out near your camp. I recommend that you don't keep more than one or two vehicles (if any), and I still recommend that you keep them away from your camp. Motorcycles get more leniancy because you can hide them near bushes. I also recommend that you keep spare parts- you never know when an invisible wall will take out your wheel. Personally, I don't even bother with vehicles at all. They make wonderful targets (it's hard to miss a fucking wall) and are zombie magnets. You can, however, troll people in Cherno and Elektro by honking your horn while driving slowly through the streets. Overall, just use your common sense. If you get killed it's probably because you were negligent, but that's okay- you learn every time you die. The biggest lesson you can learn is to not get attached to your items. No matter how cautious you are, you will eventually die and your camp will eventually be discovered. That's why, when I log out, I make sure I have my most valuable items on me (since no one can steal from your backpack if you're not in the game) if I can carry them. I also recommend that you go prone in the treeline near some bushes before you log out. You never know if someone will be waiting by your campsite. I hope that all of this helped! -

Well kinda like military training manuals found only in the barracks which opens up more options. Improvised vehicles would require you to have a vehicle repair manual to create vehicles such as a buggy, motorbikes etc.

Like the idea behind the fuel station being the only way to refuel your vehicle. Expanding on this why not have other buildings have different functions to them rather than just loot spawns. Here are my thoughts on how some of these buildings can increase the knowledge of the player by either having to find bits of information or by conducting experiments in these buildings. 1. Schools (Labs are not part of every school on the map) Chemical Lab Ability to recognize chemical hazards in environment as well as to quarantine/recognize zombies with chemical mutations. Zombies with such mutations produce burns to the body requiring substantial treatment time to heal i.e. blood levels remain capped for a certain period. Biological Lab Ability to recognize biological hazards in the environment as well as to quarantine/recognize zombies with biological mutations. Much greater chance of catching an infection when moving amongst these zombies. 2. Hospitals Forensic Labs Ability to track more details in the environment but not limited to cause of death such as blood trails, bullet caliber, shoe size, shoe patterns etc. Pharma Labs More advanced medical treatment centre with the ability to create varying strains of infection in an area. Zombies need to be alive and bought into the labs for analysis and injected with chemicals to analyze and alter their strains as well as to harvest the required strain to alter zombies in another region. 3. Barracks Ability to learn better survival strategies in the form of nutrition, stamina, stealth, weapons maintenance, advanced frontline medical care techniques, traps, vehicle maintenance, equipment harvesting (items from the environment can now be harvested in such a way to create your own device/vehicle using blueprints available) etc. 4. Tec Industrial Building Improvised Vehicles Ability to create your own improvised vehicles based on blueprints found. Vehicle Upgrades Upgrades to existing vehicles can be carried out such as speed, vehicle disassembly, radio, frequency scanner, paint etc.

Vehicular Armor Idea -{STANDALONE}-

I like the idea but I think adding guns would be pointless, maybe vehicles with guns attached already but not a bus with a M240 hanging form each window.Keep it fair... -

jdblair5 replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
All this damn time you been playing the game and on the forums you didn't know how tents and vehicles work? What the hell you been doing man? But to answer your question (hence the edit) Whats the point of tents? to dupe gear. Whats the point of vehicles? to drive to the shore, kill fresh spawns, then drive back to my gear duping tents. -
1, 2 and vehicle upgrades were fine. The Barracks and improvised vehicles thing didn't seem right... I really would like more biohazards in game though so 1 would be a nice addition. I don't know how Forensic labs and Pharma labs would work, especially in what could be considered an MMO.

What's the point of helicopters?
rolling replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The only thing that doesn't save is Helicopters. All other vehicles and tents stay forever, until the server completley dumps its entire save file.
