I seem to have gotten quite a lot of bugs and glitches lately, let's start with what happened 10 minutes ago... I spawned, and just died for no reason when no other players were around except my friend. Then I instantly respawned in debug plains with absolutely NOTHING in my inventory. After trying to rejoin, I spawned again in Prigorodky, with yet again, a completely empty inventory. Also, I can't seem to save tents and vehicles, they disappear every time the server resets. Are there problems with the saving function? I hope there's some sort of fix for this as soon as possible.

What will make DayZ a better Mod?
suiside replied to Joker427's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
roaming hordes that travel the country side from city to city on and off road. make them spawn like crash sites and let them move to the most populated area once the horde is killed then spawn another and repeat the process from an other random point on the map (the usual stuff like fixes but that is obvious) on internal DAYZ gear check on spawn so to stop hackers with fancy non dayz weapons name the original chopper and have the game check if there is a hacked chopper etc. (like make a zone above the country/map that only allows one flying chopper by name and detonates the other hacked flying vehicles, maybe place anti air defense ?) -
To the clan of US 1456
Mr_Information replied to Mr_Information's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
These guys were definately duping, most of the tents had exactly the same stuff in, which was literally like a couple of peoples entire inventories where they must be dumping it in, saving then taking it all back out onto their persons again. Duped gear or not SVD mags are hard to come by ;) it's not like I'll use the mags on anyone other than these giant camps we raid and when I do inevitably run out I'll just use a different gun. This is 1.7.2.4 we are talking about here, so does the not saving still happen? We make a habit of completely emptying tents gear and then saving them afterwards before running them over and just dumping the gear somewhere far away knowing that the stuff outside the tents will at least get deleted on server restart...and blowing up the vehicles is another one, I'm pretty sure they don't revert after a server restart (on 1.7.2.4 at least). I'll check it tonight. If all their gear is back then I'll just publicize their camp location. Some people like to be medics, some people like to be bandits but us few are going to expose these camps one by one and make sure we destroy everything we can. -
MEGA-SALE: NVGs, RNG, Satchel Charges, Ghillies, Mountain Dew, RGO Frags and more...
zeichef replied to zeichef's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Bump! Ok so I'm gonna make a weird 'offer' here. Well I will give everything that's left (2x Ghillies, 1x Rangefinder, 2x RGO Frags, 2x Satchel Charges, 1x Mountain Dew) for a functial UAZ jeep on a European server, because we don't have any off-road vehicles at the moment. I realise a car is hard to get and all but I think the Satchels and the Mountain Dew alone are some of the rarest items in the game. -
Stuff not saving on new servers?
kaindebuddy replied to Dexanix's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
i hammered 1.7.2.5 for 2 weeks (while getting constant flak from user accusing me for admin abuse for resetting tents and vehicles) and reported the bugs. job done i think. -
DayZNamalsk Fight or Flight US East (v1.7.3/Beta 97771) |3DP:On|CH:On|NT:Off|Save/25Vehicles|
Jvo replied to Jvo's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I typically don't find hackers to be the type of people that camp. If you found a camp that had a bunch of vehicles with broken tires and such that is just a regular group of players camp that got raided by another player when they were away. -
Alright. Do some vehicles spawn totaled? Or did someone just crash/shoot it for fun?
-
Any information about 1.7.3 fixing the tents and vehicles? If that happens, i'll be a happy man, please! (Tents are so amazing that if you keep repeating TENTS TENTS TENTS very fast and non-stop, it will sound like TITS.)

This is my story.... how I managed to solve performance and artifact issues.
jenxie replied to jenxie's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Alil update, I've really tried getting rid of the graphics artifacts/glitches but there's ALOT of disk-queuing going on, I've tried simply to put some files which I can find in the logs (external to anything related to gaming) to a different harddrive but this doesn't really help, would need more drive to get rid of it =/ That's how much queuing going on (up to 30ms which is alot I think) but I will try to come up with a more simple solution, I've got some other solutions but too technical for it so be simple. Also it's possible to run the game in 120Hz mode, if on Windows 7 there's a configfile located in C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Documents\ArmA 2\ArmA2OA.cfg, here you can set "refresh=120;" that will up the fps-max in-game with V-Sync enabled from 60 to 120. If I run/drive vehicles in the wilderness I'm getting around 90 fps wich is really nice with high settings. Off course this will require a 120Hz screen for it to work. -
IF it looks totaled and the only option you get is to save it, then yes its borked. You can save the remains of vehicles after they are destroyed so you aren't missing anything.

What do you do when you hit "endgame" status?
hatfieldcw replied to sauna's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Getting vehicles and not hiding them. Fix it up, blow it up, or park it on a main road near Kamenka for someone to find and get trashed. I like the idea of stuff happening in the game, and having all the busses and trucks parked permanently up by Pobeda Dam makes that less likely. So I go find camps with vehicles, get one for each guy I'm with, blow up the rest and head for the coast, honking and partying the whole way. If we die, no sweat. If we live, we fill the car with volunteers and go do something stupid. -
What happens if you never restart the server?
venthos replied to phred's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I run my DayZ server for days on end without a restart, I do not experience performance problems. The key is to not use a managed $30 "shared" DayZ server and instead throw a proper server at the thing (as well as administer the server itself to ensure all is running well). I end up having to restart the server due to hackers or updates (I keep the latest ARMA2:OA beta server exe in use on my box) versus for performance reasons. HOWEVER, there are legitimate reasons that necessitate server restarts. These reasons I'm guessing will be negated in the standalone when the engine can be adapted to DayZ's needs. [1] Crashed helicopters spawn *once* on server start. Their loot is a one-time only thing. Once someone has looted a helicopter crash, no more loot will come from it. It never respawns. Restarting a server generates all new randomized crash locations with new loot. [2] Player bodies continue to pile up without a restart. Even if you hide them, the fly sound effect persists. This can get annoying. [3] Loot piles never despawn on their own. Since most players are too lazy (understandably) to clear loot piles for respawns, this means eventually the popular areas will be reduced to loot piles of nearly 100% cans and bottles. [4] Vehicles only spawn on server restart. While 1.7.2.5 has pooched vehicle saving, the effects on this would be that a crashed/exploded car would never respawn again if the server weren't restarted and you'd only have available what vehicles were "cleared" for your server at the time of its last restart. So, there are functional reasons that necessitate restarts due to the mod not affecting the ARMA2 engine and having to cope with its limitations. EDIT: I should add that I do plan to restart my server on a routine schedule (once per 24 hours) for the above 4 reasons once vehicle/tent saving is fixed. Until then, I avoid restarting the server to ensure people have more time to play with vehicles on the server. -
[Private Hive] One More Kill's server thread (previously LU239)
Soulitary replied to Soulitary's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
We've updated some of the server options: There are now 30 vehicles, and side chat has been enabled. (Voice chat in global channels is not allowed. People doing so will be warned, and then kicked if they continue.) -
Welcome to the 1.7.2.5. I just got my first server and with with ViLayers private hive. I'm glad I did. Tents and Vehicles work perfect and they fixed tent duping. Plus the hive is really active.

You know, the usual thing that most sandbox games have these days, a stats screen, with things like: (just making this up as I go along obviously) * Longest kill shot * Highest elevation reached. * Percentage of map explored. * Distance Walked / ran * Distance crawled * Distance swam * Distance driven * Distance flown * Favourite weapon by percentage of kills * # Tins of food eaten * # Cans of Drinks consumed * # Meat consumed * Number of animals killed. * Longest zombie kill-streak * Number of Towns visited * Location visited most often * Total number of supermarket visits * Number of helicopter crash sites raided * Number of times spotted by other players * Number of times spotted by zombies * Number of times fainted * Number of limbs broken * Favourite clothing * Number of tents found / looted * Number of vehicles stolen * Barbed wire laid / removed * Tank Traps laid / removed * Sandbags laid / removed

Just in case you thought hackers destroyed your camp last night, they didn't. We watched you in your camp from the trees and were waiting for our last member to come online so we'd have you completely surrounded. However when he finally got there you guys had moved out. We raided all your tents. That's some nice duped gear you had there, in fact you had pretty much duped the same gear across the 20 odd tents you had. We took we what needed, ran them over with your vehicles then took out both pickup's and your ATV with grenades. It was glorious. Don't dupe. We'll be back to check up on you guys in a week or so.

Demystification of the DayZ loot spawn system
insitv posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Ladies and Gentlemen, this post will explain how the loot spawn system in DayZ works. I will include small parts of the DayZ source code as proof for my explanations. If this is disallowed, please remove these parts from my post. For everyone who doesn't want to know how it does work, please close your browser tab. This information is kinda spoiler-ish but will make additional threads about this subject obsolete. Still here? Ok, let's get started: How does a player affect loot (and zombie) spawn? There are rumours and all kind of explanations about how loot or zombies spawn. Some say it's based on a distance the player has to a building, some say it's tied to a timer. Well, both would be correct. This image is a sketch, the distances aren't correct but you will get the picture. As seen in the image, there are three circles around a barn building. Each circle represents a different loot/zombie spawn mechanism. For this example, we pretend that you are the only player in the area. Blue circle The blue circle represents an area with a maximum distance of 200 meters to the barn. As soon as you enter this circle zombies WILL spawn at the barn. This thread is about the loot spawn system but it's kinda tied to zombie spawns so i included it here. How can i benefit from this information? If you are more than 200 meters away from a building and there are zombies, well, you are not alone there my friend. Proof? Taken from player_spawnCheck.sqf: _position = getPosATL player; _nearby = _position nearObjects ["building",200]; Yellow circle The yellow circle represents an area with a maximum distance of 120 meters to the barn. I fucked up the relations in the image, don't hang me for it. As soon as you enter this circle loot CAN spawn. "Hey, i ran to a building but there wasn't any loot." Well, that's how the timer comes into play. You see, every 10 minutes loot will generate if certain conditions are met. One of these conditions is that a player is in this yellow circle but NOT in the red one. There is an exception to this rule which i will explain later. You ran to building but there was no loot? Well, go more than 30 meters away from it and wait for a maximum of 10 minutes. After that, there WILL be loot. Run away more than 120 meters and leave the red circle and there will NO loot. Red circle The red circle represents a kind of dead zone for loot. If you are the only player around and you are closer than 30 meters to the building, NO loot will spawn. Due to this mechanic it's impossible to camp a building for loot. Proof for red/yellow circle? Taken from player_spawnCheck.sqf: if ((_dis < 120) and (_dis > 30)) then { ... } Summary: If your distance to a building is between 30 and 120 meters, loot WILL generate there. The loot generation takes place every 10 minutes. How do multiple players affect loot spawn? As i explained before, your distance to the building needs to be between 30 and 120 meters. There is a way to circumvent this: If you are in the red circle, no loot will spawn. BUT if a second player comes into the yellow circle and stays there. Well, he will generate the loot for you in the barn. How can i benefit from this information? Place one player in the building (red circle) and one player in the yellow circle with cover. Loot every item in the building and wait for 10 minutes. There will be new items to loot. How are items generated? Every building in DayZ has a number of possible loot locations. The high value barn i used in my sketch has 12 possible locations where loot can be generated. Additionally, the chance to actually generate loot is 50%. Let's say there are NO items spawned yet. After 10 minutes you entered the red circle the first "spawn wave" will occur. Statistically there will be items on 6 loot locations. There are 6 loot locations without items now. After another 10 minutes, 3 more loot locations will have generated loot. Special rule: Backpacks and ammo crates don't use up loot locations. There will still be items spawning there. How can i benefit from this information? If you clear every loot location in a building you are increasing the numbers of item spawns after every 10 minute cycle. Proof? if (_rnd < _lootChance) then { //if (true) then { _nearBy = nearestObjects [_iPos2, ["WeaponHolder","WeaponHolderBase"],1]; if (count _nearBy == 0) then { private["_index","_iArray"]; _weights = [_itemType,_itemChance] call fnc_buildWeightedArray; _index = _weights call BIS_fnc_selectRandom; //diag_log ("LOOTSPAWN: _itemType:" + str(_itemType)); //diag_log ("LOOTSPAWN: _index:" + str(_index)); if (_index >= 0) then { _iArray = +(_itemType select _index); diag_log ("LOOTSPAWN: _iArray" + str(_iArray)); _iArray set [2,_iPos2]; _iArray set [3,0]; _iArray call spawn_loot; _iArray = []; }; _item setVariable ["created",(DateToNumber date),true]; }; if (!_fastRun) then { sleep 0.1; }; }; Loot timer To clarify some questions: The first player who comes near a building (yellow circle/120m) after a server restart will start the loot timer for that building. Every building has it's own loot timer. The loot timer is 10 minutes. Every 10 minutes new loot is generated as long as a player is in the red circle. Even if you start the loot timer and leave the building, the next player who comes near the building will generate loot (if it's more than 10 minutes after the first player left the scene). Players in vehicles Players who are inside of vehicles, be it cars or choppers, WILL NOT spawn loot or zombies. It's a nice trick to play on other players as you can hide your ATV. They won't see any zombies and will think there are no players around. As soon as THEY spawn zombies, you get off the ATV and kill them. Conclusion I had two reasons for creating this thread. 1) Many players know about these mechanics and use them to gain an advantage over other players. My goal is to close the gap and level the playing field. I don't exactly see it as a cheat or something but as clever use of game mechanics. Until Rocket changes the loot spawn system every player should know how it works and how to benefit from it. 2) Literally dozens of threads about the subject, players asking about it etc. In the future we can simply guide them to this thread and be done with it. Questions? Thanks to alicefanboy for providing a better image!- 89 replies

Since I wrote that I have headed way north-east to the Black / Willow Lake, zombies kept wandering a little too close to my old hiding spot and there are plenty of other medics that can get to that area quickly, so I decided to head to a more "sustainable" area and check vehicle spawn points on the way (found a working boat that some jackass ran aground :/) and it's always harder to get a medic up north. I'm mainly a survivor but I don't mind sharing my medical supplies with those that need it, that said I only carry medical equipment that I can administer to myself so I don't have any blood bags yet, i'll pick up 2 next time I have to go to town, that might be a while but in the meantime I have 2 antibiotics, 2 morphines, 2 painkillers and 4 bandages. So if you need any of them just PM me, I don't mind traveling a little, but I don't have any vehicles so I can't travel miles, if you are in need of a medic around Kameka or the NW airfield it'd be best to ask in the medical assistance thread, but if you are within 4 - 5 zones of Black / Willow Lake i'll come and help you. I'm not a whitelisted or any kind of medic, I have not healed a single person, shoot at a single person or done anything involving another player (apart from being helped by medics a few times) that's why i'm here, surviving solo is mega-easy, but hugely boring so i'm trying to gain experience with other players so maybe I can find and join a clan / group, but before I can do that I need to prove that I am trustworthy and have experiance playing with others.

Trying to set up a lingor server and after sorting out some database conflicts with our chernarus server we have it running sweet. The only issue we still have is that vehicles spawn really strangely. Fishing trawlers in the woods, that kind of thing. I was wondering if anyone could help us out? Would be much appreciated.

It works on some due to how numbers are handled in the script. Its also why you may have 4 or 5 working vehicles on your server. As for tents they will sometimes work but only once, and usually after a server restart (or before, cant remember). Info on why vehicles are broken can be found in my topic: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/82913-cheater-trolling-or-bug/#entry789572 Lets hope they fix it soon :)

DE57 Server Thread - 40 slots + TS3 Server
gecko20 replied to Timme20's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Hi haburger96, I am also an admin of DE57. As Timme20 said, we do not ban anyone without any reason. It would be very helpful if you would tell us your ingame name so we could discuss your ban and show you our evidence (usually log files, videos and screenshots). As you marked our camp on your map (labelled as "Camp II") which has been found just two times within hours a few days ago, I suppose your name is either R86 or 3DP, so I will explain their bans. First, we decided to leave it for a while and do a helicopter raid as our camp has been raided by some known hackers (well, we know them. One of them just got a global ban by Battleye). After we could locate our stolen vehicles, I decided to fly back to our base, where I realized someone logging in near our tents. Then, I quickly flew away as he was shooting at me with a MK Mod and damaged the helicopter's engine. One of my clan members then approached our camp and shot one of those persons (3DP). Now, the "mysterious" part begins: As I was flying back to our camp and was hovering at a low altitude, someone began to shoot me with a M107. He fired 14(!) bullets without reloading his rifle. As far as I know, the M107 magazines only contain 10 rounds. Then, one of our clan members shot him - and again, his name was 3DP. We killed him twice in just 2 minutes. And as you can see, it cannot happen that someone could reach our camp as fast as this. Of course, the helicopter crashed and I died, so I logged out into the lobby. There, his friend, R86 insulted us and left our server. Because of the mentioned hackers a few minutes before this and this situation, we decided to ban them. If needed, we can provide screenshots showing 3DP's deaths and a video of him shooting at my helicopter. @some Moderator: I want to ask, if haburger96's post can be removed as it is clearly just defamation of our server as he also does not provide any evidence for his statement. -
On my server, which is about 3 weeks old the tents will sometimes save and vehicles will almost never save after restart. There doesn't seem to be any consistency. What I don't understand is that there are other servers out there that don't have the vehicle issue. Vehicles save just fine but they are using the same version of the beta and the same dayz version that I am. I don't get it. It's a clusterfuck for sure.

"Rangers" as in police/patrol people, not as in Army Rangers. Call them what you like, but gear and vehicles for helping kill off the COD kiddies is a good idea. At least until Bohemia includes "tools" and features for people to get back to surviving as opposed to just another SSSLLLLOOOOWWWWW FPS.

I just want to jump in here and say I was skeptical of their private hive. Myself and a friend wanted to each grab a DayZ server on Friday. We went with the DayZ Package Server thinking we would be on the normal DayZ hive. After contacting ViLayers support to figured out how long before we got an instance ID we realized we were put on their Private hive. Initially I wasn't super happy about it. After spending a bunch of time in their Teamspeak and playing on my server, I'm sold on their hive. The hive already has a good population, my server was populated with between 25-40 people all weekend. Tents and vehicles save, we can change the amount of vehicles, tent duping is fixed, we can change the time, and they're actively working on more features. THE biggest advantage is no red tape when kicking/banning people. If you suspect someone of cheating, take care of them. Simple as that. In my opinion, ViLayer is top notch. It's been a pleasure dealing with their support. If you go in their Teamspeak you get to talk with the guys that are actively building this hive. They're taking all feature suggestions into consideration. Bottom line is they have fixed the issues that the DayZ dev team has not. Honestly, the dev teams should hand off the mod to people like the ViLayer folks and put all their attention in the stand alone. If you have any hesitation about going with them, put it aside. They're top quality and they're hive is great and only getting better. Plus there is a 25% off coupon so you get a 40 slot server for $38.
