Admin Abuse US35 banned for ghosting
psyth (DayZ) replied to ShadowWalker's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I'm sure you did, and yes I did ban you. And our server logs show you doing so. A ticket has been submitted to the DayZ mods and will be handled from there. If you check our site, our server MOTD and the forums here, you'll see out standpoint on ghosting (combat logging) as well as the Devs. So, if you don't like it, take it up with them. And Shadow, I request you read the DayZ forums for Rocket's standpoint on ghosting. Have a nice day. Why so Serious??? -
Simple Solution to Loot Farming via Server Hopping
gibonez replied to ZedsDeadBaby's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Or they can just fix all of the problems regarding server hopping aka ghosting, loot farming , people spawning beside you and murdering you. All of those fixed with a simple simple solution. Server specific locations. Character location is tied to each server not every server. Leave the server and your location is saved. Join a new server you spawn at the coast. BINGO 90 percent of the problems in Dayz fixed. -
So these Walking dead guys just banned my group of guys for ghosting on there server? We find a camp with a Ural and a few tents we proceed to attempt to raid them. We lose all but one of our guys in the fight an take out 4 of there 1/9 WDU guys, the people who own the server. We manage to take the Ural with our remaining man south to the shore to meet up with our newly respawned characters to see what our loot is. Upon looting the gear we all get banned for ghosting. So basically we find these guys camp, take there truck and they ban us off there server for ghosting? Thats not even something you can ban for? I would like an answer and proof of us "ghosting". I request you unban our group.

Those idiots cant even spell members correctly, they spell it menbers rofl. You can banned for dcing during combat/ghosting/excessive ping. Noob vraal should try to keep up with the times. -
I can't believe you want people here to sympathize with you after admitting to ghosting, and no, not everybody ghosts like you suggest. The ones that do like yourself, are pieces of shit. I am not gonna even watch your video.

Hackers on CA1
Dirty Rotten Scoundrel replied to Chappy-1/69th-'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
No you are wrong there. Only noobs that bought Arma2 for DayZ mod do this. You wouldn't last 5mins in Arma vanilla or ace mod. Ghosting is a known exploit, I can tell you're going to be popular around here. (that was sarcasm) /rolls eyes -
Dallas 48 [TOP- BR] Admin Abuse
[email protected] replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
That has to be the funniest thing I have ever read. Not only are you admitting to abusing your admin and shutting the server down. We have screenshots and videos to prove that we were not "cheating". Infinite bullets and high-speed shooting? How the hell did you know!? It's called clips and we didnt even shoot that many shots. Here is what happened. We stumbled upon your camp watched it for a little bit, noticed there was movement and picked not 4 but 1 member. Then Hellfadane decided to log after getting shot (which is considered an exploit). Soon your members started logging in and out trying to take your camp site back only to get killed. I think even one of your members killed themselves with a grenade? Idk what that was all about. So actually we killed 2 of you, 1 killed himself, and the other kept fight logging and ghosting. -
Yeah but you blatantly missed this part: which i was referring to. good job ignoring the first and main part: Player A is streaming and queues up for a 1v1 game. Player B is watching and queues up at exactly the same time, and has around the same rank. Player A and B battle. Player B wins because he sees everything player A is doing on his stream, or player A is forced to not allow watchers to see the game, which reduces money gained from the stream, especially if they are being stream sniped repeatedly (Destiny being stream sniped by Deezer.) - stream sniping on dayz would be finding their server (but most streamers cover that up) to play against them, then what commences afterwards is ghosting
-
Ghosting, or "to ghost" is The act of one or more dead players spectating an alive enemy player, with the intent of revealing his or her actions or location to their alive comrades, giving them an unfair situational advantage. This is achieved usually through a voice chat program, such as Ventrillo, or an IRC client. ^^ straight off Urban Dictionary, the terminology came from first person shooters including the Counter Strike franchise. Stream sniping like you guys stated already is when you watch somebody's stream to be able to intercept them in favor of yourself so you can beat them. In any case you have full vision of their screen and yours so its technically like ghosting but there is nobody transferring information its the sniper getting all his info alone. No reason to get mad boys its just a word
-
Does not know what stream sniping is -> wants to teach others about ghosting. Smart!
-
Ghosting is when you use third person when your behind an object to see something you wouldn't be able to see in first person. Get YOUR terms straight idiot.
-
watching someones stream to get their position, then try to kill them is called stream sniping, sir. so pls... using the word ghosting for someone dcing , chaning position on another server, then coming back on the first server makes totally sense.

As we said, the server restart seemed fishy, but may well have been a happy accident. What wasn't however has the multiple times we've seen your members, or associates disconnecting in firefights and ghosting over the past week. As disconnecting dialogues are disabled on your server it's extremely hard to get pictures - not that i'm making a fuss to get you banned it's simply entertaining that the rules go out of the window when you're faced with the loss of character. With all (if any) due respect Dredge, I'm not whining to your admins, I'm simply telling the playerbase our experience on your server, hunting your clan. I would however, like to commend the Cherno overwatch crew for taking their repeated deaths like men, although there may have been one instance of ghosting to retrieve an AS50 it was overall an enjoyable evening.

Is watching someone's stream and using that knowledge to find them in game. It is NOT dc'ing and coming up behind someone =.= Please, people, get your terminology correct.

Logging out to avoid a serverhopper.

Fair enough, it just seems to be what everyone is calling it. Ghosting, Nightcrawlering, Serverhopping. All are just fancy ways of saying 'bullshit'. -

Thanks Validuz. The DayZ community seems to be changing the definition of ghosting and I'm not sure why. The "ghosting" aspects from the fact that a dead player is usually the one relaying the tactical information to a live player hence "ghost". -

To my very long internet career Ghosting is when on LAN or splitscreening is when you are watching another players screen. Or as urban dictionary says: Ghosting, or "to ghost" is The act of one or more dead players spectating an alive enemy player, with the intent of revealing his or her actions or location to their alive comrades, giving them an unfair situational advantage. This is achieved usually through a voice chat program, such as Ventrillo, or an IRC client. Dont change the meaning of this word. What he is doing is simply serverhopping 2.0. -
So i was just playing tryin to raid stary and there were a couple of guys that i didnt know there as well. So i shot and killed two, i believe there was one left. I took up a defensive position hoping to wait him out when all of the sudden i got banned for ghosting? Can someone explain this?

So my group and I (15 men) set up camp on a certain server, the admin of the server also owned a clan (roughly 8), we've competed for resources for about a week and had very minor skirmishes with this clan. However, I tried to establish some sort of an alliance to the two warring bandit factions, unfortunately they declined. That was fine for us, the skirmishes and combat was still incredibly fun but later that night an enemy clan member comes into our vent posing as a new recruit, this devilish plot was to ghost one of our squads across a loot run. We didn't really catch onto the ghosting until the 2nd encounter to the enemy squad, first at Starry then in a dense forest when we were resting for 10 minutes. The clan literally surrounded us with frag grenades, smoke, M249 rounds, sniper fire, etc... They took one of our men down in the first shot, but beyond that we escaped unscathed which was the sad part. How do you manage to ghost/cheat to surround your competition to kill them- yet YOU CAN'T KILL ALL 5 STATIONARY TARGETS 70M AWAY FROM YOU?! Yes- It's our fault our TS may have been given out/found out with a search function No- Ghosting is not apart of the game, it's just as bad as cheating Yes- Moving servers Yes- them MISSING the kills on us pissed me off more then them ghosting, why? It showed their stupidity. THEY MISSED STATIONARY TARGETS.... What happened to fair play? It doesn't exist in this day and age anymore, huh?

The best solution I've heard to ghosting is to not let some one reconnect to server A after having d/c'ed from server A and connected to server B. Maybe put a 30 minute cooldown before they can reconnect to server A. The only time I've legitimately had to do this was when I had my tent on server A, but the admins kept taking the server down for days at a time, so the next time I saw it up I just moved all my shit from server A to server B. But aside from that I can't think of a real use-case for letting people hop between two servers repeatedly; 90% of the time it's probably a ghost. More importantly though, logging out should take 30seconds+ and should have an animation (kind of like when you're bandaging, making a fireplace, etc). It'd be nice if you saw the player setting up a bed and knew it meant he was logging out. -
So...no one can ever log in at Cherno, Elektro, or the Northern Airfields then? A more likely fix would be forcing someone who logs in at hotspots (barracks and the like) to log in at a predesignated series of coordinates in the forest/grassland AROUND the areas, regardless of characters inside the designated areas. This would fix (to an extent) server hopping for loot, and ghosting in the high-traffic areas.
-
I'm not sure what word to use describe this. I'm suggesting a list of 'elite' servers where your character is stored server-side. These would be servers where you would not be able to loot hop, ghost, or alt + f4 to avoid engagements (because you'd log straight back in in the same spot). I think this would be the fastest way to stop ghosting and loot farming, at least for that server. Any items on these servers would have to be found on THAT server. It would be a true DayZ experience. I've seen one or two of these servers around already...but I'm not sure if they're even legit. I'm suggesting an actual legit list, of maybe 10 different servers running this modification to the DayZ mod.

Desaan replied to The Poacher's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's one of only a few major flaws the mod currently has but probably the most detrimental. They need to come up with a solution to the server hop loot farming and ghosting. It's out of control, especially as more people become aware of it being an easy way to cheat the game. It's definitely solvable but it all depends how high or low it is on the devs priority list and the longer they leave it the more it will annoy the community.
