Strongholds/Bases/Safe Areas - Smartphone Alarm Systems App
Sleddog Afterbirth posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I know that in one way or another this has been discussed in varying degrees. This is suggested more for the standalone project likely as I don't know if it would be possible in the mod. But I know Rocket is trying to figure out a way to build underground shelters and the like for players. What I was thinking was a way of securing area's so that the Zeds stop respawing or pushing the respawn outside of that stronghold. Something that ties in with the idea of the wirefencing and sandbagging idea that allows for a player to attempt to horde more goodies. This could be dependent on more tasks that become available in the game of course, The more things we can do as solo or clan players, the more things we'll need to find to survive and achieve. I get that this game is about Survival, but after a certain level of surviving and attaining rare weapons and gear, a player wants to start limiting the risks and think about striving. In my case I've found the M107 sniper rifle with enough ammo to keep me busy, but my options are limited now as to what I can do in game that serve my own interests, so now I've turned to hunting players as I have all the tools that allow me to carebear in the wilderness. I play with a very limited number of other trusted players and we do what other clans do, try to find rarer stuff, but when solo, I've run out of things to achieve and shoot other players trying to get ahead just for shits and giggles. Not cool I know. So, my idea is to provide ways to secure campsites, houses, towns even. As part of the terrain when coming into a town players see roads that have been fortified with junk. What about making the "junk" a tool in the game, (like the tank traps). Pile enough junk around an area and it becomes a safe zone. Zombies spawns will be pushed out of those secured areas. Add Nails and hammers, saws, welding equipment to the game as tools used to reinforce houses and buildings or campsites in the wilderness. I was even imagining a way to build a sort of surveillance system in the game, like a CCT surveillance with a gas genie that needs constant refueling. These can be deployed and somehow tie it to a smart phone app that lets you know when your base is being infiltrated by other players. This way your loot stays available in game to other players but ads to the paranoia of gamers offline. Not sure if that can even be done these days as I'm not a programmer, But maybe this app could provide a countermeasure that deploys a trap that can only be activated once until you reload it in game. A large clan could easily secure a small town depending on the amount of junk scavenged from across the wasteland. Turning scrap vehicles into steel sheathing requires a welding torch and a vehicle to carry it. A gate can be built that can only be opened from the inside. Add ladders to the game to climb the walls or use your hatchet with nails and hammer to build a ladder. Various simple and complex countermeasures can be deployed from say; "empty tin cans and string" to "beartraps tied to shotguns" to "m240's tied in with closed circuit TV run on a gas generator" each allowing a player with a smart phone to know if their stronghold is being compromised whether in game or not. Anyway. Just brainstorming. I love the game and the concept of the minecraft model, develop as you go. I look forward to the possiblilty of being able to do some of these things in game. Best, Sled. -
It is the vehicles and amount of barraks at the airfield, whenever I go there I see at least five helicopters that are able to be fixed if not more and other spawns are available on the map. You have offroad trucks with Dshk and an armored Humvee with a .50 cal, but yes the actual city is boring and bland (although apartment row can be cool and there is another military base somewhere on the map). Variety is the spice of life, I do not like Takistan due to the desert running spawns (at least in Fallujah you can find a building to jump off of) but it was still fun once in awhile. I did earn my first ever server ban by possibly the most incompetent server admin I have ever met though, get hack attacked over ten times in a thirty to forty minute play session (the console kill) and the guy accuses me of hacking. I have zero weapons, zero kills, and was running in the worst part of the map and I get the blame, just classic moronic admin looking for a scapegoat when I have been painstakingly putting up with hacker and cheater nonsense for months without ever even thinking of crossing over to the dark side.

Scavenge car parts off other vehicles
[email protected] replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I've wanted to post this idea for awhile, actually, so thank you for beating me to the punch. ;) I think that nearly all vehicle parts should be salvagd off of other vehicles, rather than running into somewhere and finding random tires, fuel tank parts and jerry cans sitting on the floor. It would also help de-incentivize server hopping at the highest spawning industrial areas to find the parts. We should have to scavenge out in the dangerous open roads from wrecked cars, vulnerable to players and zombies, rather than hopping from server to server inside of a factory. This would also increase the general number of spawn locations as well. In terms of implementation, wrecked vehicles could be coded like regular vehicles, where you go up to them, check them out, see if there's any hope to fix them up and check the inventory of the vehicle to see if there's anything you can use (or anything anyone has put there for 'safe' keeping). It would add another strategic dimension if you could get in some of the semi-wrecked vehicles and hide from zombies that way. -
Vehicle respawn times, please lower them.

It's a mess, I agree. is there anyway to locate teleported vehicles? How are you guys finding them all the way out in the ocean? -
Scavenge car parts off other vehicles
.45 replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Great idea in principle but being able to remove parts from vehicles will just be another thing for griefers to exploit. Imagine some hacker TPing all over the map removing parts from everyones' vehicles but on the other hand, if it were a case of having to salvage parts for your vehicle from the wrecked vehicles that spawn as obstacles in the road, it could be a case of having to salvage the right parts from the proper vehicles. So you could only get wheels/engine for a Ural from a wrecked Ural, so on and so forth or just keep the simple one size fits all system that we have now. You could even tie that to the difficulty level, one size fits all for recruit, class appropriate for regular(sedan/off road/truck) and keep the unique parts for veteran level. -
g'day everyone, well today i went and bought arma II comb.... bought it for dayz, so i had a bit of a play around and go used to the controls then went out and onto dayz, the first 10 times i spawned in someone shot me within the first 30 seconds, people where camping right around the spawn areas, and having no weapons they just shot me. so that really sucked balls, finally got a chance to get up and going and some dude shot me as i was being chased by 4 zombies, he was kind enough to first watch me kill the zombies then proceeded to shoot me. So whats the deal with people loving to kill us newbies, having nothing at all and just spawning in why do they kill for. So this was my first efforts of dayz, i then went to the online of just arma 2 and it was the most fun in a game i had in ages. The variety of weapons, vehicles, planes, bikes the lot was great fun.... still havnt given up on dayz, i ended up finding a dead dude with some stuff, and found a old bike too. I didnt let my frustrations get the better of me and im yet to even go close to the main cities too lol. The zombies are very temperamental, sometimes you can creep past them but other times they just hate anyone being near by. so just wondering, anyone got any good tips for day 2 of dayz for me?

NEW DayZ Fallujah Map Released!
Michaelvoodoo25 replied to avid_gamer's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
After a good days play 6 hours to be precise, I found this a bad map. The map is huge and your left running around for ages, if you thought the run from the coast to the NWAF was long, you will hate Fallujah. I spawned first just outside the airfield, getting in was a pain as the fencing had no gaps only checkpoint access. Barracks were full of weapons and lots of them. All vehicles at this point had gone but if you see a wheel remember where. Most repairable vehicles are all shot to shit, engine scrap metal window and wheels are needed! The city of Fallujah is massive and unfortunately too many buildings are non enterable, even those which are don't have any goods in them, normal rule of thumb, rely on those buildings you know have got loot and forget everything else, I was running everywhere for loot and it is far too spread out for a good experience. Industrial areas have a lot of hatchets. There is a medical tent area similar to the Balota one, good loot there south of the city area. Spawning points are just mad, some are so far from the city they are a waste of time. Lots of running so get familiar with the map early on. I was dehydrating by the time I hit the city at one spawn. This is a PVP map, due to the size you must be cautious, players can find the most mundane place to hide and camp the spot for a kill. Not enough loot, too big, dying here is a Bad thing. The spawns are just terrible. Be wary of Zeds, they follow you like flies to shit. Overall, this map needs some serious work, this was made badly altered for DayZ. A rush job! -
US 2013 Private Hive with 150+ Vehicles and Custom Cherno Map (14 Barracks!)
uniqueLOL replied to worsin's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I can speak highly of this server. Occasionally of course there are a few griefers/hackers, but so far I've had the most fun on DayZ in this server. Party Busses, Chopper battles, bicycle races, just tons of fun. Taxi services for coastal noobs are fun too :). Risky, but fun! If you play long enough, u'll eventually find a really good vehicle. First time i ever connected to this server, I spawned at Krutoy Cap... a spawn that i usually commit suicide at. But to my right, about a few meters away, was my first ever bicycle. Had so much fun that day haha. Hope to see some more people on there. I wanna see vehicles causing traffic jams on Chernarus! -Kevin -
I can relate sooo much. The only time I've not been able to avoid a player, was when a hacker spawned right next to me and killed me waaay up north, where I had already checked every angle. (He did this when I spawned on the coast too, several times, so I'm sure he did teleport.) Oh and haha, I did have a very VERY unlucky encounter on a server with me and ONLY 3 other players. I was looking at Balota airfield from a faraway hill just after for some reason spawning at the coast with full gear, instead of north where I disconnected... and saw zombies, where I hadn't been. So they were spawned by someone else. Heard a gunshot and almost had a heartattack, but then I realized he shot at the zombies.(checked debug in my moment of panic for dead zombies.. sorry if you consider that cheating ;I) Trying to stay totally hidden, I just move closer to the tree I'm next to and go damn near under it. I keep scanning, trying to figure out what way did he head to, so I'll know to head the totally opposite way. The zombies despawn and I start panicing... where is he!?!? I contemplate logging out as my heart was pumping so hard, not knowing where he went. But I thought I must go through with it, as I'm not the kinda guy who alt-f4's out of battle. Even though I wasn't yet in a battle. That's when I hear one single footstep, someone goes prone RIGHT NEXT TO ME, immediately turns to me and pumps me full of lead. Even though I had been geared up to the teeth, I could do nothing but laugh, as I noticed he also clearly shat his pants when he accidentally proned right next to me :DD And I don't really blame him for it, I had a ghillie and an AS50 in my hands, that I scoped the distance with. I bet he thought I'm there sniping on noobs, And I think it's actually a pretty common snipingplace that I had stumbled to. Anyway, that was a legit death and I totally approve. He deserved it. Other than those two encounters, I've been successful circling around people, even if I'd like to try and see if they're friendly. And right now I have all the best gear I could possible want and I see no reason to join any server for any purpose, as the only way I can go, is DOWN. I wish there was something to do now that I'm geared up.. I mean, something else than either try to fix vehicles and getting shot while doing it, trying to make friends and getting shot while doing it or shooting people, getting shot while doing it ;D But nope, chernarus isn't a friendly place :P

DayZ Lingor Island vehicel spawns!
[email protected] replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
Thats cool I guess if that is what your are into. I was on a Lingor Server last night that had the 67 vehicle spawn + 6 helis. I fixed a heli and proceeded to fly around watching others flying around. Kind of ruins the "scary zombie survival game" all together with 8 million vehicles and seeing helicopters flying everywhere. While it was fun for an hour or so I gave the heli away and my buds and I went back to hunting people where things are scarce and survival was more the point. -
Just a heads up guys, i have switched our server over to Fallujah 24-7 and it is now updated. Admins are present most of the day and will be on at night also. 80 vehicles Custom load out for fresh spawns inc : Makarov with 2 clips Map Compass Hatchet Server is running Vilayers new anti-cheat software Also make sure you check out our new private dedi server UK31 Bliss which is using Gotcha anti-hack. Karl is working over time to add custom content to the game and the server should have custom buildings like these at Kamenka http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/576716295823867087/EA2261A90CB2687772F28191FC9076EAA5E27282/ http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/576716295823874195/647E64D1B4F9B31BB8A972EA83644BA4E4D27CE1/ Also custom weapons and vehicles will be added as soo as Karl gets to grips with the new server :)

Kurziraden replied to slavegirllucy's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
so this is going to sound ugly........but... a) Develop stuff that prevents those hacker scripts from being ran..... Security programs have them all the time, make one. B ).... "Hacker spawned huey" "Hackers destroy all with a click".... "hacker teleport".....WELL....... Apparently there IS... for you to do a force respawn "admin"...... Its just a HACKER way.... If they can spawn it, you can spawn it.... you -could- be generous and hack in the vehicles for anyone that was on at the time of the grief, and simply hack the rest in "Requiring repair" I'm SURE.. if they can hack it in pink polkadotted (I dunno that they actually can) then you can hack them in as they were as well as in waiting. -
[How-to] Custom models & skins [DayZ mod 1.7.2.6+]
starfish replied to caseymc's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Well, basicaly we've got custom buildings placed and some minor modifactions. Though thats all done through database editing so far, also to avoid having the clients download a custom mod package, but instead being good to go with normal dayz and rMod enabled. So that ends up with towns like Kamenka having an industrial spawn and some minor lookout points (the Novy water tower for example), creating a fresh atmosphere and giving those crappy spawn points some sense as well. What Im looking forward to is changing the weapon balance, e.g. by editing the helicopter spawn sites loot table as that seems far less complicated than editing the whole dayz loot spawning in general. And additionally would be greatly appreciative of a possibility to include arma2 weapons that are included in rMod as well. As of now, the database cant spawn predefined inventory in vehicles or weapon drops in general, so adding them to heli crash sites would be perfect. @Mrdk: Thanks for the reply mate. Ways to edit these features would be perfect too, greatly appreciating an advise on what file to edit and what line of code to look at to. So far Im trying to avoid any changes that force players to download custom files/version of the mod as I take that as too much of a hazzle for most players. -

Looking for a lingor private server for clan wars...
Khyron_UN posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I';ve been talking to my clan and we want to get a private lingor server for us fighting each other. We're getting a bit tired of our server getting spawn killed, vehicles teleported to the ocean, and basically not having much control. Can anyone recommend a good host with support and private hive, we want our own hive and not shared. We plan on keeping the public one up... for now, it seems to be the home for many honest people as well, so I don't want to pay an arm and a leg, hell, even 20 slots would work. -
I haven't tried this yet, but I suspect the best bets for finding a vehicle would be: 1) The forests within a 2km radius of NW airfield. Presumably people keep camps and vehicles there so they can quickly loot the airfield for awesome military loot. 2) The Northern and Western edges of the map 3) On an island, teleported there by a hacker. In that case, you can only destroy the vehicle and wait for it to respawn on server restart. All that said, I have found vehicles on the south coast before - a couple of old bikes in and around the towns, a fully-repaired motorcycle that was abandoned because its previous owner got it stuck in a fence (knocked the fence down with a hatchet and rode off into the sunset), and a couple of heavily damaged ATVs sitting in Kamorovo. Not once have I found a vehicle at a vehicle spawn point, despite searching those extensively. I've also never found anything larger than an ATV, presumably cars, buses, lorries and helis are hoarded in hard to reach places by groups and clans.

Vehicles should be tougher to total.
[email protected] replied to hatfieldcw's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The point wasn't about wear and tear, or deterioration of components, (I honestly think there should be WAY more to fixing up vehicles than there is currently anyway. Ignition lights and horn always work fine, and that's just the tip of the iceberg) The point is; bullets should not cause a car to explode, or randomly burst into flames, or become entirely unsalvagable in any way shape or form! Especially in an apocalypse survival game striving for authenticity. If a car has sat for up to 5 years, is already riddled with bullets, has no fuel, smells like rat piss and for some inexplicable reason has had its wheels removed (they didn't just fall off), and can be made to run, (in game, hypothetically) as is the case with DayZ, then why, with all the oxidization and evaporated fuel, would a bullet or two make it burn up? You can literally throw a lit cigarette into a bucket of petrol and nothing will be set on fire, (but yer tab will git put oot) You can shoot a full petrol tank all day, and you'll just end up with a petrol tank full of holes. We should at the very least be left with a "Car Corpse" to store gear, and salvage parts from. -
NV goggles disappeared when trying to store in motorcycle

When you put things in vehicles that don't fit they don't disappear, but instead they end up somewhere around the vehicle. (usually within 10 meters) -

Hi, you are welcome to check us out at The BSB Network. We're a social gaming community that is dedicated to fair and fun gaming. We have over 200 players in various Fire teams and groups playing Day Z and using our Teamspeak Server to communicate and coordinate their scavenges and raids. These teams have several bases, vehicles, camps and play across several of our own home servers. The community is mostly adult gamers over the age of 20 (well over in most cases!) but there are no age, time or skill requirements - all we ask is you play fair and have a bit of common sense about you! Our members are based all over the world and are on at all times of the day and night, but all speak English and most are based in the UK and Mainland Europe with some in the US too. We've been gaming as a community since 2002, so we're not some ad-hoc fly by night clan that's been quickly set up and will be gone in the blink of an eye! There is no obligation to join our clan or any of our affiliated clans/groups to take part in our sessions though, everyone is free to urn up and get involved. I gave you beans for teh enthusiasm and some of the ideas mate. 1. Yes it should be more difficult for groups. I would suggest groups simply spawn more zombies and at a quicker rate. Also sounds from gun shots and vehicles should attaract all zombies within the spawned region. Firing a gun should be more hazzardous. 2. Fair point but will probably be tackled in stand alone anyway. 3. Dont see why not. Alcohol should play it's part in the game for furtehr extended reasons, explosives sucha s molotv coctails, as a kind of in-game karma/rewards system for humanity (sharing a smoke or a beer/spirit increasing humanity) and as a disinfectant for basic medication. 4. Maybe. I know Rocket mentioned this before but this and dogs for me shouldnt be priorities. Long term, yea possible but if people want cyber pets they should get a tamagotchi. But for the sake of "sandbox" sure ok. 5. Youalready have a shock/fear system. Maybe just rework it and imporve it a bit. 6. More melee weapons for sure. These should be more heavily focused on and an easier alternative to fire arms for players to employ.

Trusted Medics of the Wasteland - 100% Trustworthy Players List

Edit: Or uh, wait, is this just the list of people YOU've helped ? :) lol.. if so, ignore the rest.. I think it's safe to add me to that list. Saved by [TMW]Nurse Kobra once some time ago and we've then checked a few spots for vehicles, traded some items (Him giving me a tent, I give him antibiotics etc...) in-game for several times. I've also reported coordinates of a few medical supply tents I've found to him. AND I've also offered to provide cover if needed, but he hasn't really needed any favours lately. I guess Kobra could vouch for me at least. Hoping I could maybe join some day (or immediately ;P) or at least take part in some form, to get some purpose and something else out of the game but the nothing-but-deathmatch I've stumbled upon so far. 65 hours played now and I still haven't killed a single player :P So yeah, I'm definately not a shoot on sight kinda guy. I guess Recon, supplying, overwatch and cover would be my forte.
