Why do I keep losing my hero skin?
LightbulbGuy replied to Nickds54's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
"Instead of answering his question, I'm going to point out a typo even though it's possible OP might not use English as a first language or simply didn't notice his mistake." Anyways. I've had glitches of my character reverting ever so slightly if I log out too soon. For example, I eat a can of beans, log out right after, and then when I get back on later that night my hunger has gone back down to what it was before and I'm missing my beans. If it's not that, then I suspect you're leaving out some details such as killing/shooting people. -
My transformation from Bandit to Hero, and my insane night.
LightbulbGuy replied to Puffy's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The bullet proof vest on the Hero skin is (partially) functional. It's only resistant to 9mm rounds, so basically only a few pistols. And for the record, he was exaggerating. You do take damage from these bullets still, just less than the average survivor. -
I'm Sure I'm Not The Only One: Opinions On The Game's Sniper Rifles
LightbulbGuy posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well, let's get this little bit out of the way. This is a thread about sniper rifles. However, no, I'm not going to complain about their capabilities to one hit kill someone. No, I'm not going to whine about how I died to one and want them removed from the game. No, I'm not going to argue that using it is a no skill en devour (for the record I know how hard it can be to hit a moving target reliably). And no, I'm not going to come in here and brag about how "leet" my sniping skills are either. Anyways, I'm rambling now. I think it's time to get off that and get on to the actual subject of this thread. When I started playing this game I died my fair share of times to those snipers off in the hills. I fell over dead with -20,000 blood wondering what in the hell just happened to me. And when I found my first M107 sitting in the flaming wreckage of a crashed helicopter my first thought was of course "This is a big gun, with a big scope and a big bang. And I like it". I got to find and use my fair share of M107s and the odd AS50 if I ever found myself lucky enough. I've picked off people from far and close watching them fall with no defense. And of course I've gotten my ass handed to me on silver platter just as much by bush wookies off on the horizon wielding these very weapons. For a lot, they're fun. They're big and loud and satisfying to use. And I respect that. But as time has gone on, and I've played more and more. As my play style has changed and I stopped shooting on sight, or shouting friendly to ever player I thought I could be mates with. As I run around with my Hero skin, enjoying the scenery, getting killed and doing my fair share of killing. I've come to find myself literally passing up the rare M107 when I stumble into it at a Heli Site. When I find the odd bandit sniper on the hill, and somehow manage to kill him and begin to eyeball his AS50, I find myself just hiding his body and moving on. Now, I'm not saying I don't enjoy these guns. I'm not saying that people shouldn't use them, in fact I encourage people lucky enough to hold one (legitimately) to enjoy it while it lasts. But for some reason I just find myself drawn to the other snipers in the game more. I love to snipe, always have in most FPS games I play. But nowadays in this game, you know what my dream sniper is? The M24. I never seem to find it, it feels so rare even compared to the games two .50 caliber rifles. But every time I find one it's a little flutter in my stomach and smile on my face. For me, I've come to learn that I enjoy being a little gimped. It adds a flare of fear, a feeling of being the underdog. Sure, it often results in being outclassed and thus losing the fight, but when you can, and do, succeed over the "big dog" it makes the game that much more exhilarating. It brings back the fear and panic I had back when I was a little fresh spawn running along the coast with a Winchester and a Makarov, stumbling through Cherno. At least, in my own little way. I know that's not for everyone. So, to all you snipers or survivors out there. Do you ever find yourself passing on the games more rare and powerful weapons to get a bit more of a thrill? A little bit of a challenge? A handicap of sorts? Or you do you just upgrade any time to can to the strongest metal stick you can lay your looting hands on? -
I don't really understand the point of this thread. Are we supposed to praise you because you stumbled onto an empty server and found leftover Script Kiddie havoc? You just kinda told us what you found and then got mad when people started bringing up random points. I'm mostly just confused at the purpose of all of this.

Why all the hate on the guys that keep tents stocked?
LightbulbGuy replied to dannyboy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's not the hoarding that people are bothered by, it's the abuse of bad tent systems. When you save tents, there are ways to "dupe" items. Basically you take out your stuff, and next server reboot all that stuff you took out will pop back into it. Thus, you have duplicates of said items. It's an easy way to got multiple AS50s, NVGs, Rangefinders, and lots of other high end gear. Hoarding is not the problem, that is. And for the record, I see a problem with vehicle hoarding, although that's a different subject all together. -
I don't really see anything wrong with choosing a female avatar in a video game. Or does that makes someone a little pansy because they happen to want to something different for once?
-
The skin's gotten so much neglect. I know more than a few friends who wanted to play as female characters, for whatever reason. But that fact that they can't wear any of the games skins is just silly. I know the reason for this is because all current skins are just from the game itself, but still. Females get the short end of the stick in this game. Not to mention their model in general looks like a twig with basketballs for hips.

The debug, while useful, was mostly just a crutch to players and a tool to the people trying to make sure the game is running well. Personally, I could live with or without it. Adds a little but more skill and knowledge to this game in most cases. And I don't see that as a bad thing, really.

Whatever effect is on that video gives me a headache. Windows Movie Maker effects =/= better video.

Having trouble finding a single vehicle
LightbulbGuy replied to rollo23's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Unfortunately there are a lot of people who choose to use vehicles as tents. Not only that but they also hoard them for themselves if they are a group larger than 2 or 3. Basic pattern is to find something easy to get around on, I.E. Bikes, Motorcycles, ATVs, and find as many other vehicles as possible. Fix them all. Hide them in a hole somewhere and never actually use them. Now, nobody gets to enjoy a vehicle. Welcome to DayZ. -
Then the immersion is ruined as you parachute down to earth with 100 cows and 20 other survivors only to die on impact. The end. Welcome to DayZ.

Dear Snipers who interrupted our Trade.
LightbulbGuy replied to roflcopter127@yahoo.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's your own damn fault for thinking it'd be smart to get on the roof of the firehouse in Elektro. Honestly sounds like you got what you deserved and the fact that you used your second account to get camp your body is more of a dick move than what those snipers did. -
I was getting ready to write up a bit bigger of a response to you, but it can be pretty well summed up in the old phrase "Don't stoop to their level." Exploits are in the game, yes. But that doesn't mean they're there for you to use. They're there for you to abuse. There's a big difference there. If you chose to abuse them, then I will in fact look down on you. Love and respect, Nice edit.

The fact that you do this is disgusting to me. The fact that you use a zone of the map that was never intended for play in order to secure yourself and your buddies vehicles and weapons is basically destroying any chance of others enjoying themselves in your server. The game was designed so that vehicles were not something you kept and hoarded forever. They were high value, difficult to fix, and easy to steal. It's a rewarding feeling when you're traveling through the woods and find someone's well hidden UAZ stock piled with guns. The chance is low and that luck and, for the other player, bad luck are all part of the game. Gain and loss. But you chose to destroy that. You remove all risk. It's part of the game, losing your stuff, your vehicles, having to start fresh without a place off in the middle of nowhere so you can call up your pals and say "Hey, fly over with the Heli we've had for month that no one else has gotten to fly and bring me back to camp so I can get my AS50 and L85 back." While not technically a place that players can't get to, those of us who play with the idea of staying true to the game and its intended design will not be wandering thousands of miles in the middle of nowhere just to see if someone set up a camp out there. By doing this, you are destroying the playing experience of everyone else on your little "private hive" server. I'm sure everyone else loves having no vehicles to find or enjoy while you hoard them all in your "safe zone" running around fully geared no matter what happens to you. I'm glad you play an a private hive actually. See you never, friend.

Question About The Hero and Bandit Skins
LightbulbGuy replied to LightbulbGuy's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Thanks for the link, but... "It is unclear at which point heroes will revert to being a survivor or if this happens at all." ...makes me wonder.
