Server Ban for AS50 TWS: Debate
Fyre (DayZ) replied to melted349's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I just wanted to say my only reason for voting AGAINST any sort of ban is that you really don't know what the story is behind the weapon they have. I recently invited a friend of mine who is a very new player to Day-Z. One of the first things she did when she came in was find a dead body, and it had a PDW SD in it. Obviously, a PDW SD is not a legitimate weapon. She didn't know that. I didn't realize she even had it until way later. How was she supposed to know? Would it be her fault to get banned from carrying it around? She still has it, as far as I know - so I don't know what to tell her to do if she'll get banned from certain servers simply by logging into them. -
I know you're not supposed to get attached to items in-game. And after losing many a Ghille Suit, Ural, NightVision, neat weapons and the like, I'd like to think I'm somewhat detached. But mostly from legitimate kills. Some guy sneaks up with a revolver and puts one point blank to my head? Ouch! That sucks. Sniped from a building in the middle of Cherno? Awww. Shot off my motorbike via some assault rifle while trying to escape after being ambushed while fueling? Harsh! But none of that is as upsetting as hack deaths. And even losing just uncommon things, much less rare, makes me rage. Like "omfg I just got that Alice Pack and you thought the whole server needed to die? May your family drive off a cliff ARRGGGG." Especially bad when you lose a rangefinger, NVG, 2x mountain dew and antibiotics to some nut that decides to teleport you and your entire server to the middle of nowhere a zillion miles out, saying "Let the games begin!" in voice chat and then proceeding to kill everybody off. So how does anybody cope? =[ I don't want to rage. I want to play. But I find it increasingly difficult to justify any time spent playing when you spend more time re-gearing stuff lost illegitimately, then actually like.. tense moments avoiding zombies and other players in urban combat. I was actually laughing at myself when I was shot point blank in a grocery store. Probably the first kill that guy had ever done, and he wanted to be sure. Hard to miss at <1 foot away. I lost a little bit there, but good on him! He got the better of me, and I wasn't listening. But losing hours and hours of gained gear to some guy getting his jollies by seeing people running around like headless chickens in barren landscape off the map? I just don't understand the mindset to just let that go. Maybe I'll go back to Minesweeper. Placing those little red flags is endlessly satisfying. Slight addition - it's also frustrating to lose friends to play with over said incidents. I'm finding it increasingly hard to find buddies to play with when they swear off the game to stupidity like the above mentioned incidents. I know it's alpha, and we deal with graphical glitches and other things (I walked off a roof once because I threw an empty tin can before I stopped walking). But I don't even understand how these hacks exist. Not even talking about duplicating, but rather who puts code in a game meant to be ultra strict that allows "thunder doming" or map-wide teleports?

How do you avoid raging? (hack rant)

Time, man. It's time lost. Rather unfairly at that. Well, the rage is mostly because the only control I have over it is to cease doing the activities that are threatened by it. ie: Stop playing the game. But I don't want to stop playing! It's a fun game. I'm giving up enjoyment against my will, after having spent time snatched away. Sure, I could do something else. And I was outside today, in fact! Some gardened, actually. But maybe what I want to do is play Day-Z? All in all, I'm not jumping off a bridge IRL. But I still can't help but feel cheated. -

Oh, the minute I suspect anything, I'd disconnect. But it's usually just an instantaneous action. For example, the incident that prompted this post : We were playing on a fairly populated server. 30-ish. Yes, prime target. But the hack wasn't during populated times. We wanted to encounter other players after being bored of small servers, and we started in Electro, went around.. friend got axed, I found a motorcycle.. and we got like half geared. SUDDENLY THUNDER DOME, the entire server falls over dead. Sucks, but .... we didn't have much, didn't rage. Respawned close, found our stuff, found motorcycle (!) and left to Berezino. Geared more, went to Starry. Omg a red car! Realize it's 2am (we started at like.. 11pm?) He logs, and it's just me. But a car! A new red car in Starry Sobor only a popular server. I can't just ... leave it. CAR PART HUNTING TIME. Go to factory. Find parts. Find TWO DOWNED HELOS. AS50 spawned on helo. 249 machine gun thing. Omg I lack an alice pack, and motorcycle storage is .... lacking. Ask friend to log on to help Spend ALL NIGHT repairing car, getting back to helos and stuffing it in the car. This after survivng that coughing illness, falling off the edge of the factory and breaking my leg, zombie zombie zombies, etc. 6am, car repaired. Move car and motorcycle to super secret spot. 6:30am. Log off for night. Looted helos, fixed cars, saved life, etc. SUCCESS. Next morning - log in to check. Pitch black, can't see. boo. Log out. Friend logs in because he thinks he might be able to see. Suddenly he's teleported away to the middle of nowhere, and bam! Dead. Respawned with literally zero items. Not even a flashlight. He's upset, swears off game for good. Well, damn. -1 friend to play with, and the 249 machine gun thing is gone (AS50 still on my person. I hope...) Guessing our cars probably didn't make it, because faith = zero. And.. here I am. Also honestly, I have yet to find a server that hasn't had some major hack incident, severe lag, or constant down time. It would be far more reassuring if I had a safe place to play. 5 minutes? wat? It takes me 5 minutes just to find an empty soda can. What're you, Usain Bolt? It takes me the greater part of hours to get even geared enough to consider myself somewhat of a threat.
