15 DayZ without DayZ make for long lonely DayZ.

    Depression of day z

You got to just pick yourself up fella, get back out there and get yourself a low tier rifle and go from there.... Embrace it... You know a lot more about life in DayZ now, your friends (if they were friends) will help they lost their camp too... You could try to feel liberated, you're free of the worry about all that gear, you know now maybe to not have one large camp, but little caches around different places so if you get killed you can quickly tottle up to them and gear up again... Stay mobile, feel fresh.... Don't depress over it, we all loose our gear eventually... And one day, maybe that hacker will get locked out... or run over by a bus... because, they don't play by the rules, so they can expect whatever they get to be justice enough in the end, be it a ban, or a black eye.

A way to deal with bandits, maybe?

You mean it being another player and in the game... That's the way identify them.

    Food Supplies

I like the idea of rabbit snares, catching rabbit at the moment is hell... Not sure about fishing... As for wolves, there's enough of them with rifles in Cherno & Electro :(

    WTF! Seriously?

Does it?... I've not noticed... It just makes zombies run away from me a moment and then crawl back to eat my ankles... and I can't put the damn thing down.

Crowbar bug - Locked in bag

Two guns into a tent... Going to try this tonight... You know whats annoying, I posted a whole new thread about crowbars, after searching the forums and finding no other mention of crowbar troubles (last night), searching this morning, for the purpose of finding my own post - which has gone ignored - and voila I find your thread... This is annoying... Not least because I now look a knob for starting a thread about something already mentioned elsewhere... grrr. <_<

    Crowbar

I've got a crowbar... Sigh... I've already posted this on the development ticket/bug tracker (here) the problem is that I have the crowbar equipped as my primary weapon, its the only thing I've picked up, and now I can't drop it... I can't move it to my toolbelt... I can't even try to destroy it by moving it into a bag without enough space. The thing simply will not go away, its stopping me changing to the hatchet (much more useful) stopping me swapping to a gun, stopping doing anything except swap to a pistol or flash light in fact.... Anyone have any ideas why the heck this is? And more importantly how to get rid of the damn thing... Nothing seems to be working for me. Note: Earlier it was stuck in the 0 hacks (red), and needed reloading, but would not reload. I dropped it and picked it back up again to fix this. This no ammo in the crowbar bug is a problem, but very secondary to the main problem of the thing not going away. Anyway, all ideas welcome on a postcard to "Xel with the crowbar, Number 5a Large Tree, Barn upon Lake, Mogilevka". super low fram rate.

Possible Solution Might have a solution folks, certainly seems to be working for me: Open your "My Documents" (or just Documents on Vista/Win7), and go into the "ArmA 2" folder, you should see the folder "@DayZ". If there are any other folders beginning with "@", Delete them and start the game over. I had "@CBA", "@CBA_A2" and "@CBA_OA". I don't know what any of them are, but by removing them I now have over 50 FPS back steady in towns and 60+ in the countryside. This is after two days of terrible below 5 fps game play.

    Massive Lag and FPS drop

Looks like there's already a solution here, so I'll just blind paste the one I've been putting in all these separate threads for good measure :D Possible Solution Might have a solution folks, certainly seems to be working for me: Open your "My Documents" (or just Documents on Vista/Win7), and go into the "ArmA 2" folder, you should see the folder "@DayZ". Ridicules Lag

I have had this, I'm going to post this answer I've found onto the other threads... But you can try too.... Major FPS lag

Nay worries, on the similar note there are other threads about this, I've commented on this and another... The other is going slowly south as people blame other people's local machines - so, I suggest if you're still having slow downs, try to play Arma II in single player, bench mark it to make sure you're positive that the game is not at fault locally. Then, see how quick these forums are today, they're flying for me compared to the chugging they were doing last night... And see how Dayz runs then... I think the problems will be over, the above link is back up and the 400Gb/s services on that pipe that got severed are back up and routed properly. At least, I hope its all working right, I'm at work now for another 9 hours, and so have to wait to get home and get my Z smacking fix.

    super low fram rate.

Everyone suggesting this is our own machines, please beware I have run this in single player, on some wild and some vanilla ArmaII operations, and on both my machines I got (last night) over 60FPS, this is on high settings throughout, and normal shadow detail. The moment I enter DayZ the FPS is radically lower. There appears to be a bottle neck somewhere on the network, and if not that then some problem introduced yesterday (28/8/2012) after midnight, but before 4pm BST (GMT+1). This is not my machines, this is not the game itself locally, so please, don't point me to any more tutorials on setting up my graphics settings, don't bemoan over heating, or bad machines/tech, don't blame or PM me about using old graphics drivers... Its the game, plain and simple. And I don't mind it being the game, Dayz is Awesome... But... I'd have liked my fix of playing last night, and could not get it for (currently) reasons unknown... I therefore ask, could a Moderator ask a techie, "did something happen?"... or "Was there an outage".... or "Were we affected connecting people from the UK by the North Sea connection being severed"... In short, just say yay or nay, to something odd going on in the hive... Cheers all. :beans:

    Major FPS lag

I have a hypothesis... I think those of us with slow down issues are all trying to talk to the Hive, and the Hive connections between us and it, are affected by this problem in the North Sea: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/08/28/cut_underseas_cable_cripples_networks/ I am in the UK, the Midlands, my internet routing goes north through Leeds and then out across the North Sea... And routing tonight seems to be going the long way, out over the Atlantic and then back to Europe and then back out again to America (kind of slow, but clearly that's what the routing tables are saying right now) This is all therefore out of my hands, and probably only observable but us poor schmucks this side of the outage. Other sites work fine, but some seem very very sluggish, this forum included.

    super low fram rate.

This is happening to myself and others, reported in another thread titled "FPS Slow Down", I am getting 5fps tops on both my machines (and yes, I've tried on multiple machines). Spec: Intel Core i7 - 950 - 3ghz 16GB DDR3 nVidia GeForce 470 GTX x 2 (SLi) 1TB Samsung 7200 RPM and Intel Core i7 QM - 2.6ghz 8GB DDR3 nVidia GeForce 540 GTX 80GB Intel Speed SSD The machines were all working fine yesterday night. I've checked Process Explorer and there's nothing hitting the CPU's, I've also used PerfMon and seen nothing significant, save for some hard drive activity (which I reported in the original thread, but this has died down now). I have tried to reduce all settings to minimum, reduced screen resolution and even tried reinstalling the whole game package through Steam. There appears to be no local (on my machine) cause for this problem, I believe this is server side... Anyone know more than me care to share? :beans: Here is the other link: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/83112-major-fps-lag/

    Major FPS lag

Ditto, was fine last night, now on both my machines its terrible, I've tried everything from turning the settings for the graphics to low, to clearing my machines to reinstalling the game... It appears that the game is performing lots and lots of I/O (at least according to PerfMon) whilst running, it was not doing this last night: Machines: Intel Core i7 (4 core HT - so 8 effective cores) 8GB DDR3 nVidia GeForce 540 GTX 1GB Intel Core i7 (8 real cores) 16GB DDR3 nVidia GeForce 470 GTX x 2 (SLi)

    Heroes few and far between?

Your humanity can go up?!??!! Woooot  P.S. - No I am not trolling - I've neither seen mine go up - despite never killing anyone - I've never seen anyone help anyone, I've never seen anything but a rat-race blood bath with everyone standing on everyone else's shoulders to further their own ends. On the on occasion I stopped to help someone, just as I'm about to bandage them, they turned around and shot me in the face... IN DA FACE MOMMA!

What weapon was underwhelming to you?

The Crowbar... No, no I'm serious... I've found compared to a hatchet, picking up a crowbar is a one way ticket to the infirmary. In my experience it does not kill a zombie as easily as a hatchet, taking two or three swings, alerting the zombie and letting it whack me back... Whilst a hatchet, crawl up behind the hapless Z and voila knock 'em down....
  20. Zombies not being able to just phase through walls would be an excellent step... And no hackers - well... I'd love to see it, but where there's a will, there's a way... So, lets go for less empty tins in spawns for low/mid residential... Gief beans.

Dead zeds more frightning than walking zeds

When you're helpless as a kitten (I'm using this phrase a lot today in posts) and you've spent minutes crawling, and dodging and getting into a building only to find it empty disappoints... But then, as a Z sprints past the window and into a nearby barn, shortly followed by the shrill note of an Enfield ringing out... That has my pulse rise. That has me terrorised... Cus that gung ho Enfield Wielding pup has ever reason to bring every Z and leave me crawling empty handed through the mire.

The Return of Starting With a Weapon

An interesting post, as a new player (having only started last week) I find myself feeling very vulnerable, and spending vast amounts of my time gathering the bare essentials together at the mercy of loot spawns and crawling... Starting with no weapon turns the initial couple of hours into a trudge, crawl, sneak slog to try and gather stuff up. I also feel as though not starting with any sort of weapon has the effect that, one spends so much time trying to find something to defend oneself, that once one has some kit its like the flood gates are open, you feel empowered you get cocky, or more likely impatient, and do something silly getting killed and having to start the slog all over. Other posters have made it obvious that yes doing this you get pro at looting and rounding up gear, but you also do get frustrated at being as helpless as a kitten. Quite what weapon I'd suggest to start with, I can't say... Maybe a combat knife (and it actually be a weapon) or a hatchet... I'd prefer a hatchet. What I could suggest though is that spawn points have some plausible reason to have some hatchet on you, perhaps a ruined boat - with zero zombies - a wrecked car on the road - to pick them up from? Features exist all along the coast which could be exploited to hide this game mechanic into the world and would of course give a beginner a chance against the Z's, without giving them imperative to attack one another or other players easily. All in all however, I started to play without a starting weapon, my frustration is the steep learning curve and my soft pudgy flesh being so attractive to the Z's... A crow bar, a hatchet, a knife... anything would make me feel more able and certain about the game, good suggestion OP, just temper whether such a weapon should be a gun... I don't think it should be, but I do think you have a point.
  23. My first death was the simple "got auto-stood up by a door step" and three zombies kicked me into oblivion... Boring. However, my first death at the hand of another player was so funny... I was crawling around in some tree's north of Kemenka, looking to move down into the log cabins at the north there... I had just started out... suddenly a guy appeared in the tree's, he was friendly (shout out to Mark "in South Wales" if he remembers me) he showed me a trick of crawling around differently... So, we clear this house out and move off into the tree's heading for the deer stand, and hopefully better weapons. We crawl, and scout and take our time, and are right at the foot of the ladder to the deer stand when suddenly a voice comes through.... "Dooo Yowooo Waant Gud Gears?".... It was a heavily Western European accented English - perhaps Belgian, or Dutch - The voice was an older guy maybe 40-50 ish... Older than me... Anyway, he out and out kills Mark, starts to take the pistol and is saying to me in this silky voice... "Heeey take your diaper off and talk to me"... This voice is just dripping malice, I felt violated. But still he didn't shoot me. So, I type into "Direct Communications"... "I've only been playing an hour, no idea what gears are?"... I thought he meant parts of a car or something... I just hear this silky heavy voice laugh and a spray of AK fire rips through my podgy prone flesh. I felt so... So violated... I don't mind getting shot, it was more the voice communications... it was so creepy... So, to whomever you are out there, you sound like a sex criminal, stop it!

is there some way to change my player name in game?

Thanks for the replies peeps - have brains... The steps I followed to get my name changed in DayZ were: 1. Launch Arma2 stand alone. 2. Access "Profiles" from the main menu 3. Create a new profile - setting the name, head, glasses etc. 4. Double click the profile so it becomes active (the name appears at the top left). 5. Close Arma2. 6. Restart SixNetworks and go back into DayZ. This did however leave me with a new puzzle, the original profile (the one I have no idea who it got there) its still there, and the top of the profiles list in my game, and I can not delete it... Which is a little odd... I've not played the single player game at all, so not being able to delete that original profile is a little unhelpful. But, hey ho, sorted now... :beans: Anyone?
