To highlight man's inhumanity to man. -
60 rounders are the gold standard, accept no substitutes. In the medical division we put a lot of thought into our gear. 60 rnd mags only, limit of 4. Ammo box with at least 300 rnds, at least one saline and epi pen pererson, ttsko top and bottom, helmets, gas mask optional, press vest strongly encouraged. Disinfectant and at least one set of cuffs per person, at least one rotten fruit per person, well drinking only, no cantines or bottles, rice for food. Pistol allowed but discouraged. Medical bandages only.

Our group took 25 lives today, bringing the total we've exterminated up to 130. It may be 26, we got the drop on two well equipped victims and while I think I hit both of them, I can only confirm killing one. He went down, started to get back up, and took 4 more 5.56 hits then dropped for the count. I couldn't tell if his buddy died or combat logged. We also talked an armed victim and his friend I to drinking from a well, which ended with the extermination of both. Great progress today in the important work of exterminating the population of the coastal area. I've started taking before and after screenshots to document our work.

Trying to help people new to the game.

Leet hax. I have a hack where if you find an axe, you can use it to hit people to kill them :D -
That's a pretty good idea. It would make it hard to play with friends though, and it would really, really hurt rentals of DayZ servers, since it's hard to imagine people rent them for reasons other than playing with friends/having a safe haven and more than anything else loot farming.

A person who does it just to be an asshole reaps exactly the same benefit as the person who does it out of a self-interest calculation. In fact it could be argued that the person who does it just to be an asshole gets even more out of it, since he fulfills his desire to kill other players while at the same time doing what is best in self-interested terms.

This is a bad way of looking at it. Movies are scripted fiction, they aren't real, they aren't real people behaving in real ways. What we have that is better, is an experiment in a simulator. We simulate people in a situation like this, and make it as realistic as possible, and see what they do. No scripting, no plot, nothing but people interacting with other people and with their environment. To see what happens. It's called DayZ.
-
As long as it takes time to get gear or otherwise advance your player, Kill-on-Sight will always be the right decision for each individual to make from a cost-benefit analysis. It will always be the self-interested choice. The Self-Interest Theory states that each person has one supremely rational ultimate aim, that his life goes, for him, as well as possible. Since this game is about survival, the self-interest theory is very compelling.

Trying to help people new to the game.

We help people die... by poisoning them when we say we're giving them food or medicine, or just by shooting or hacking them to death. Our mission is to exterminate. -
Wrongheaded, I'd say. The discrepancy between the real life and the game simulation is really just the stakes involved. People in real life have their real life at stake, and don't want to lose it. The solution is just to make the stakes higher in the game. Make it harder to get loot or make it so that the longer you're alive, you gain some kind of benefit that is reset if you die. The thing that makes DayZ an amazing game is that it really tried to be a simulator where all the content is created by player interactions, and where there really are stakes. If you trust someone and he kills you, you may lose many hours of work spent gathering gear. If you kill someone else, he may lose many hours of work. There are already stakes in the game, what would make the game better is to make the stakes higher. Risks and Rewards present in the situation in the game can and should be the only thing controlling player behavior in DayZ. Until God comes down and starts punishing bad people, it wouldn't be very realistic to put it into a simulation would it?

Spawn killing separates the wheat from the chaff. It will be better once there are incentives to kill new spawns, like the ability to butcher them and eat their meat.
-
All game mechanics should be geared toward being plausible and realistic. The game consists of human interactions, the more realistically the circumstances are simulated, the better the interactions and the better the game. Bad people tend to look an awful lot like good people. You can't know peoples intentions, only get an idea of their capabilities, so you have to judge them based on their capabilities and not ascribe motives or intentions. It's probably worth pointing out that the lack of 'stuff to do' in this early-alpha release is mainly because it is an early-alpha release.
-
It's always safer to kill someone than not to, since if they are dead they lose thier stuff and have to respawn, and aren't near you anymore. In any given interaction the options are 1) Log off 2) Kill the person 3) Don't kill the person. Logging off is just as safe as killing the person, but is time consuming. Not killing the person is very risky. You can't know peoples intentions, so you can only judge them based on thier capabilities. Those are quite literally words to live by.
-
Not the game for you maybe? The aim of the game is to survive. In any situation its better to shoot someone than not to, since once he's dead he isn't a threat to your survival. We in the Medical Division don't just shoot people on sight most of the time, but we always do kill every single person we can. We only kill people right away if they are armed or if they don't cooperate, everyone else we poison, give random blood, or handcuff before terminating them. Our mission can be summed up in one word- "exterminate." We are up to 17 tonight which puts our running total at 122.

Everyone is forced to role play in dayz, and everyone has the same role - a survivor in a harsh and dangerous environment.

The difference between: Scumbag & Banditry...
wgaf replied to TheCalyx's topic in General Discussion
I suppose by your definition what we in the Medical Division do would be "scumbag" behavior. And in a way you're right. We are a death squad and our mission is to exterminate the population and to conduct medical experiments. People who do what we do in reality are war criminals. We are polite to people and we offer them help, then take them back to the killing grounds. Our standard procedure is to apply disinfectant, alcohol, or rotten fruit to ensure death even if the victim logs out. We tell them that the alcohol or windex is to make sure they don't get an infection. Anyone who doesn't comply with our procedures is shot out of hand. We try to keep the victims around until they get sick and throw up by telling them another member of our group with supplies for them is "coming down from the mountain." We take blood and apply random blood bags, and we explain each step as some sort of helpful medical procedure. We keep the victims calm by telling them they'll be OK once the guy with supplies arrives. We tell them if they sit down it helps with the nausea. We engage in some serious role playing and emergent content creation for DayZ. We offer compelling gameplay to our victims, and a narrative they will remember. -
All the m4 attachments are equally common. I hardly see any cooking pots. I've only ever found one Press Vest.

when did being friendly become bieng a sucker
wgaf replied to gannon46's topic in General Discussion
That's sort of the crux of it, We are roleplaying a death squad. Our mission is to exterminate the population in the area. -
The building yoire talking about is called a "school" on dayz. In takilife it is used for the bank. The 3rd floor has only one enter able room. It is a guaranteed 100% spawn of a gun! either m4, pistol or mosin. Go to that room and server hop, you'll find one in minutes. Most people leave mosins behind since they run m4s.

M4, pistol, or mosin spawn in the 3rd floor room of every school.

Rocket said : Cannibalism will be eventually part of the game
wgaf replied to gamer222's topic in General Discussion
That is, as they say, "the plan." -
Currently you can feed people poisons, but it takes a long time for them to die. It would be nice if you could also inject poisons for a faster effect. Currently the only lethal injection is incompatible blood, but it takes a lot of work to find enough blood typing equipment to be sure the dose will have the right effect.
-
It would really be something if you could tie a number of players together in sequence, like a chain gang, and have them be your prisoners or human cattle once cannibalism comes in. Also if you could just tie a player to a tree and leave him to starve or get killed by zombies or animals unless he's rescued.
