  1. Would you like this server to be whitelisted? We've had a stupid, stupid amount of bans on our server and there is talk in the admins of the community about white listing, discussing its pros and cons; what we will need to do to ensure we maintain a player base as well as encourage new players to the server. Let us know your thoughts either here or here http://www.britishsergeantsmess.com/index.php/forum/72-public-dayz-forum/221933-should-we-whitelist-the-dayz-server#221933
  2. If you are struggling to get on the server please join us in TS. We will make room for TS users. Lobby idlers, fresh dead and worst case, fresh spawns will be selected for your slot. In the worst case that there are no suitable candidates an admin will monitor the situation and create a slot for you at the earliest convenience. This will be quicker than waiting and waiting outside of course :)
  3. :( all of it or in certain areas of the city or? There is one part in Sabina above the tunnel which drags a little but everywhere else is fine.
  4. After the extended success of the PvP event we will do it again soon. Right now, everything is back to normal Taviana survival. No more satchel road blocks for a month or so :D
  5. Server will be down some time between 2230-2300 tonight Expected down time 15 mins. Sorry for your inconvenience.
  6. I only just saw this video. That was just mean! :D
  7. Give us you feedback about the PVP weekends chaps. Good thing? Bad thing? Worth doing again? What do you think?
  8. Reminder that for this weekend we are running a PvP set up. Normal service will resume on Monday with your last known location and kit on friday being your spawn.
  9. OP updated with minor changes. Loading screen added (click thumb). It is with great unhappiness that I must say to you that we have had a huge increase in bans due to racism. The majority of those we are banning are very apologetic and claim they are not racist, they just came out with it in a fit of rage. We have a zero tolerance to this behaviour and feel that if you let slip once, you will again. Bans are permanent. We have updated our loading page to reflect our stance (as if we need to point it out). Please consult our Sgt Code of Conduct so you know what to expect from us as a gaming community. http://www.britishsergeantsmess.com/index.php/sgts-code
  10. ANNOUNCEMENT: We will be running our second PvP weekend starting this Friday. The Taviana database will be saved for you to pick up where you left off on Monday. Spawns will be all over the map and everyone will spawn in with Gucci inventory and weapons. If you have never had a PvP game it's just a bit of fun to break the tension by spawning you in kitted out thus removing your need to find and protect your gear. It also provides you with that all important combat experience thus improving your chances of survival in the real DayZ. Slots will be in demand so join our TS for a VIP server slot.
  11. And whilst we have a solid admin interest in DayZ we can ensure our server population is protected via our inspection and control.
  12. Pros and cons of whitelisting. Pros. Tighter community Increased collaboration between whitelist members. Access totally under admin control Hackers are less likely to enrol but there is still a risk of known players hacking. Cons Harder to develop a community from new joiners. Everyone is friends thus eratidicating bandit element. Sharing a TS channel creates an issue when wannabe bandits and friendlies are together/ ghosting, etc. This itself threatens the community development. I have seen the player count decline on another server when whitelisting was added. Although one could argue that quality is better than quantity we have to remember that DayZ can be brutal. The fact that more danger is present enhances the very experience and enjoyment. That feeling. It comes when you see an unknown. It comes when you coordinate an attack against another group or bandit. A server of friends is an ideal but the enjoyment/ risk element is reduced because of it. You lose a large percentage of that by adding whitelisting.
  13. And target practice on other servers is required due to having a white listed server? I think it lowers the player count too much and strangles the community potential development.
  14. I had a whole day of doing chopper crash runs in my ambulance and picking up new spawns aroun boye. Even taking everyone way up north to the camps and vehicle hordes. Then.... In my 5th hour or so I was sniped refuelling in boye by a 107 twonk whilst helping three bambis. A Humvee full of chopper spawn grade weapons grounded. Tut.
  15. Apparently the kill message issue is with the 1.7.4.4 update. We had it and then it was gone. Are other servers running same versions as us using kill messages?
  16. Panda, or should I say, Sgt.Hexstatic is not being made to ditch a server. He is not being made to drop UK10 as a community. He is not being told to abandon anyone or anything. He is only being asked to consider his position as an admin of The British Sergeants' Mess. And to justify the comments about our server (hardware) being shit, as you say so easily, after extensive effort and analysis we now believe we have struck the perfect balance against the inherent issues the map may or may not have. 60 to 40 Slots, reduction in vehicles spawns, adjustment of body disappear rates and changes to back up rates to name a few. Anyway, the slaughter continues... familiar players are returning time after time and we battle the hackers with no or little disruption to the honest players. It seems we are doing something right, right?
  17. Well, well. It seems a few folks are desperately clinging to something they hold dear. I would call that community spirit, panda thinks he just made a server but he made a community. The success of UK10 and its other names before that is all down to Sgt.Hexstatic's (panda) intention. It was created to provide a place for our other BSM admins and regulars to play on. His dedication helped the BSM community through a major dip in interest in BF3. He will always be high in my regard for this. We, BSM, received donations and some £160 was given to hex (correct me if my numbers are wrong) and this supported the growth of UK10. It got to the point where concern arose that hex was paying from his own pocket for too long and he himself agreed that it was getting too much. It was soon after agreed that we would provide a DayZ server which hex was pulled upon for advice and guidance to its set up. He was to be the a figure lead with its administration. Unfortunately he never actually committed substantially further than an initial basic set up post. We shelled out to obtain the highest spec available from our provider and struggled to establish it. For months it sat empty. Still no sign from hex. Even during Teamspeak chats it was still in his mind but still nothing was added further. What I am saying is that Hexstatic was committing his time to forging his own community, possibly without even knowing it. Maybe even blinded by the hard work he was putting in. Nothing was given by him to the community he is a part of though. When hex says that he will be kicked out of the community if he keeps UK10 going, what he was actually told is: "If you cannot commit to BSM then why are you an admin? If you wish to pursue your own interest then we wish you all the best, we know how hard it is to do what you have done. It's not easy getting to where you are now, but if you can't commit to being an admin of our community you will be asked to leave." Why he is only telling you guys now is beyond me. I can only guess why and I think he actually enjoys the job and doesn't want to lose that. Hex did say he would start the move process three months ago. As you should read above this is hardly a hitler admin attitude as it was so rudely put and all of the insults are already forgotten. We've been called a lot worse if the nearly 12 years of admining game servers.
  18. Taviana is hardcore Chernarus. All the drama you get from the airfield. Those shady moments taking loot from stary tents. They were centred around those areas and the routes to them. Taviana offers you this excitement and danger multiplied and takes up an area equivalent to the entire south coast of Chernarus. But that's just for the bandits and bambis. The map is huge, I think about the equivalent size of 4 Chernarus (maybe 3). Quiet life on the west island. Danger on the southern part of the east. Team work is essential for those early map learning moments. Ts3.britishsergeantsmess.com I hope this can convince some of the UK10 uncertains to join us.
  19. Shame mate. If its a leg up you need join us in TS and we will send out a rescue team :D Performance wise we've allocated a 3rd core to the server, 1 more than the minimum and, bearing in mind we are running a top spec dedi, we've also shaved 10 player slots off. We are always responsive and on top of our server so try it again and you should see improvements.
  20. What's your DayZ philosophy? Has it changed much since playing Chernarus? Taviana seems to offer an additional layer of pain which only existed near "the airfield" on Chernarus.
