Thinking about this recently, and although I have and do still use these guns... I have lately felt that they are somewhat overpowered within the world of DayZ. This being said removing them may not be the best option in my opinion, as DayZ still needs the fear and reality of a "1 Hit Kill Sniper". This being said, one thaught/idea I have had is that maybe instead of removing them rather add a "disadvantage" of sorts to them. One such disadvantage I have thaught on is the idea: that by carrying such a weapon, you forfit the ability to carry a backpack at the same time. This would add a whole new level of tactical thinking to the game and would promote squad positions and duties such as who would be the groups sniper? etc... Just wanting to get some of my ideas out there! ;) What does the rest of the community think on the matter? and what "disadvantages" would you suggest? Keep well All! :)

Removing M107/AS50 in favor of increased sniper damage?

Looked around the forums for a bit and didnt really notice much of what I am about to suggest in any large part atleast... Thaughts on the current place of sniper rifles in DayZ have led to many arguments around the use and nature of the M107 and AS50 anti material rifles. A recent thaught of mine was that the reason why I personally did not like them being in the game was far from their killing capacity but rather from the fact that there was no disadvantage too using them. This being the case i argued towards the idea of removing the possibility of carrying a backpack or such when using one of fore mentioned rifles. However after thinking on it and using other rifles in the past few days eg: the m24 and DMR in particular, I came to the conclusion that these rifles in most cases did not lead to a 1 hit kill shot but rather in some cases led to the player just "running it off" literally. This I find to be disturbing because in my mind (correct me if I am wrong here) but being hit by one of these rifles in the chest should kill/mortally wound an individual... Anyways, as a result of these cases (atleast 3/5 times)... I came to the conclusion that if the more common snipers were damage "boosted" so that anything above the wasteline etc... would result in a kill shot there would not really be much of a need for these anti-material rifles. Now I know that many people who read this are going to argue against the reasons I have stated above and insist that they (anti material rifles) are needed in order to disable cars and other vehicles etc.... For them I would agree, however if the damage of the "average" sniper were increased there could be a potential for the engine etc... to be disabled. Whereas in the current state, 1 AS50 shot to the body of a vehicle in the right conditions results in the entire destruction of that vehicle. What does the rest of the community think about the idea of removing the M107/AS50 on grounds that the rest of the snipers are "boosted" in damage? -

This is a nice idea, maybe there should be restrictions on at what stance your character is able to fire the weapon/fire the weapon effectively. Maybe a system where there is a small yet still plausible possibility to damage yourself firing the weapon from a standing or hip firing stance... -

Regarding vehicles and anti-material rifles, although in reality their purpose is just that... In this game however i find there is no tactics required in order to take out a vehicle. Instead having the AS50 with Nato rounds means that without even thinking of cover etc, jsut shoot the front of it "once" and within seconds i have just dusted an entire squad and the vehicle... -

Sorry if I was not clear enough.. Sometimes I tend to ramble too much. haha. I wasnt meaning increasing their damage to that of the AS50's at all, rather I was suggesting increasing their damage high enough to result in a "1 hit kill" against players. Whilst at the same time doing much* lower damage against vehicle, so much so that only multiple shots to the engine etc would disable the vehicle. And even then, would not completely destroy the vehicle like you would using the AS50 currently, I have many a time 1 shot Urals anywhere in the vacinity of the hood and blown up the vehicle :/ not as much fun if you ask me of tactically taking out the driver/wheels etc... -
The most tactical approach in my opinion. Always do the same route and has yet to fail me :)

This could definatly be an option to be honest, as currently the AS50 for me atleast feels as if it has little to no recoil, much less so then the M107 atleast. -

That was my initial reasoning behind having to make the choice of either carrying a backpack or a 50. cal sniper. As after using these guns enough times now, I have come to realise that there is no "real" disadvantage to using the M107/AS50 over other smaller and more versatile guns available. However a weighting system would definatly add to the mechanics and tactical gameplay aspect of the game. Nice to see everyone's views and ideas comming together here. :) Keep Well all! -

Yes, Removal of the cross hair system would definatly make this weapon harder to use in close quater combat situations. Thats a great idea which if I am not mistaken is being considered for the standalone which is great. :) I never really thaught of much else than the reduction of inventory space as a negative effect of carrying such a large gun... But the idea of moving slower as a result would also be very interesting and in fact make allot of sense. :) I would guess that in reality people would not under any normal circumstances be running around with such a large sniper hipfiring.. :S haha. Thanks for your input man! :D -
I have no experience in doing this.... But I have seen them too ingame and from doing a search on google, found these: http://imgur.com/a/FAWIn However, I would caution you to using them and to first find out if they are supported on the server or even legal (ie: not seen as a possible hack or exploit). Otherwise, I would like to state that by doing this it is your and your own choice so whatever happens the results fall upon you. :) Keep Well and goodluck finding the info you are looking for. :)

Useing A Chopper As Storage And Other Stuff

Using any vehicle as a storage unit would make sense in terms of being able to relocate etc... depending upon player activity within certain areas and would as such work as a movable base. Yet at the moment I would not recommend using any vehicle, let alone a helo to store all of your most valuable items.... As if and when a "hacker" does join the server first thing they will do normally is head straight for the helo... unsuprisingly seeing as though it is valuable form of travel :P My best bet to store valuables would be on your character or in a very well hidden tent. Just my opinion, but I think your best bet would be to find a nice secluded area of thick woods both covering aireal and ground cover requirements and then place som tents there. Aside from hackers though, this is DayZ and as a result of player freedom in movement and curiosity everything gets found sooner or later ;) Goodluck! :D Keep Well. -

I use both weapons in the mod atm, However I have lately felt that they may be a *bit* overpowered in certain cases. However at the same time as having this feeling I do believe that it is important to have a "1 hit kill" sniper. As this would only make sense... I do agree with what you have said though, that instead of just deleting them, rather supplement them with something more appropriate. Imo, I believe that a good replacement for the as50/m107 is the lapua. As it has very high damage which means a 1 shot kill. But at the same time, it is bolt action rather than semi auto and carries 5 shots per mag. I think making these very rare* could be an option. Another idea which I have had recently is: Let players have the M107/AS50 "cannons" but include some sort of disadvantage of carrying/using them, for instnace: if you are carrying of the two guns, you can not have a backpack at the same time, etc.... Something along those lines would make sense to me. Just my 2 cents... :/ sorry if this makes no sense... currently on my mobile :P

Very well written! Agreeing with everything you have said, However removing the IP Ban would put allot of other Legit users at risk. People might not see the message or may not log out fast enough and with the threat of server Nuking everyone would loose there well earned gear. Whereas now with the current system the players name and Ban is shown to the server upon trying to enter without the threat to the other users. Just my thaughts! :) -
