  1. Ha! Except for choose your own adventure!
  2. Here is another way to sum up the silliness of your argument/comparison. You are comparing flying a RC areoplane to actually flying an aeroplane. Claiming that they are essentially the same.
  3. Don't need to tell me twice! I only play in FPV, I removed the view toggle key, got TrackIR and never looked back, i think i made the original thread of this exact topic which went for a similar length of thread but never made such headway (which is why i am very pleased with the signals from this thread and rocket) I would pop the champane if it was gone but i'm also happy to compromise so long as most retarding aspects of the TPV are gone. I don't think a switch to a FPV would even make a minor dent in the community despite the naysaying, and ultimately the bottomline for the SA* * opinion I pulled mostly from my ass.
  4. Okay...no need to go back over the arguments again. Is a FOV slider going in SA? I'm sure it was. If it is, never mention the FOV again, anyone. One thing i'm sure we can all agree upon. Prone should be locked in first person. Thats a slumdunk, gimme, mulligan, guaranteed certainty. An inevitable, inexorable addition to the game and if it isn't any of those things it should be. TPV+prone adds nothing to the game. Secondly, any body postion that gives concealment (looking at you crouch/potential stances) then it should tighten the TPV. When you lower your body, therefore lowering your eyeballs, you are less capable of seeing stuff. It's pretty simple. If you disagree because you want to ignore logic or prefer asthetics over gameplay just say so. And note that the existence of other illogical aspects of DayZ does not invalidate any part of this discussion. I'd hope that the devs strive to fix all illogical istances in the hope of making a more authentic experience. Don't fret Demongroover. If it took 76 pages for progress it took 76 pages. Change is clearly coming, this thread is foreplay. Player persepective is one of the most important topics because what we see pretty much determines if we live or die, it's well worth the tramua of this thread :P
  5. Yahoo! We have a winner for the worst line of argument of this thread award.

    Some gun suggestions

It's a breakaction rifle, nothing to radical. And to the OP, none of those. It's about what makes sense for the setting. don't mean to be a dayz hipster but the flare gun is the only suggestion i can go with Actually a suppressor can work on a nagant revolver (plently of those in the eastern block) because of it's design, which is a gas sealing. There is no gap between the cylinder and barrel. The entire cylinder (unique to the nagant) moves foward to bridge the usual gap, add this tightness to your normal case expansion during firing this means no gas escapes back out the gap which makes a suppressor effective because the gas can only exit via the muzzle. A suppressed nagant should be added and should be one of the rarest items in the game! Twoud be epic.
  7. I like this one a lot and i'd expand it . The ability to switch shoulder/hands for firing firearms is not nearly added enough to games (it makes a huge difference to your cover/concealment). I wouldn't just have a camera that changes angles but also tie it into which shoulder your weapon is fired from. So if you need to lean left instead you can swamp your rifle to your left shoulder to slice the pie keeping as much of your body covered as possible. i It would add some real fine touches to CQBs. Chaos Theory did this shoulder-rifle-camera swap well.
  8. Now i don't get it. Could you clarifiy what you mean when you say "if the situation was reversed". What's that situation?
  9. No and no. You just don't seem to comprehend how the TPV advantage works in a defenders/snipers/campers/hallways, favor. This is the misunderstanding. These could both have TPV on but only one person (the defender/abusher) gets the free information on where the other player is. Anways...good to hear the devs working on trying different solutions to try to please the bottom line player base...the three main areas the TPV is most abusive is: *Prone *Hallways *Overwatch *Prone: Forced prone in TPV is a pretty good solution to stop the periscope-a-ton in the outdoors. *Hallways:...a Deadspace shoulder perspective would go a long way to fixing hallways. Perhaps in urban/town enviroments the TPV becomes locked in a shoulder perspective. *Overwatch: A concealed person can still have a massvie advantage during overwatch even if their peepers could not actually see over/through their concealment...this type of situation is the hardest to work on a fix. The distinction between running in the open where Rocket says he would like TPV and suddenly stopping in a good postion (such as on top of a hill behind rocks) and being able to recon an entire area free of consequence will be hard to tweak. No ideas for that. *Gear/UI checks: would also be a pretty good way to examine your character you gear and maybe for a status check. So long as to obvious imbalances are worked on a compromise is sensible.
  10. So the thrust of your new arguments in favor of TPV is "MEH, so long as i'm having fun" and the worst part is you even concede there is an advantage BUT it "doesn't bother you" because it's "fun"..."It's just part of the game" ... DayZ (you know anti game survival sim) it is not what you describe...things that might be "fun" that detract from authenticty do not belong in sim Why is it the worst ever? I clearly support FP but it didn't think it was the worst idea ever...
  11. Rofl I was this person... In one of my first few DayZ guides, which was about CQB I got onto a kill streak and decided to make commentary. All the ins and outs of 'CQB' and 'what to do'... the kpro I was trying to spread hard earned wisdom. EVERY kill was by leaning via E or Q and rotating the camera out as far as possible to peer around corners and BAMBAMBAM uspecting AKM to the face...so good Now it's FPV in any server and the intensity and the tactics are actually there. Wether it's rolling firefights or slicing the pie. Without the periscope you have to make moves, supress and use tatics to stay alive instead of a magical UAV.
  12. /thead or rather any pro third person arguments in regards to gameplay. Now if anybody says "well the other player can use third person" they are missing the point. When you are the aggressor (in terms of attacking a postion) third person leaves you stone cold dead and you will never get the same advantage that the person standing at the end of the door has over you. This is how/why it is imbalanced. Vicco and co have never and can never respond to this situation. Any objective person will conceede the point and move on. It's time to think of a fix to the TPV...time now would be better used discussing alternates instead circular discussion. In this regard I have almost no useful insights besdies full amputation.

    Lone wolf tips?

Any backpack you pick up is -10 items, because your hatchet is going in the first pack that can fit it so you can 'quick swap' (just be careful about moving ammo)...alas my hard won tip is going to be irrelevent soon :(
  14. This is a completely bogus arguement. TPV exists and is used by Devs because of the inhernent power and it's explotive nature. Take Splinter Cell or any other TPV game. I'm thinking MGS (from 3 onwards), GoW, Prince of Persia, DMC...the reason SOME games are designed with TPV is because to play them in FPV would be nigh impossible. The reason why TPV exists is TPV gives you so much free information and situational awarness. Examples: *If every game was FPV only you would never be able combo in DMC, you would always be hit from behind *This is true for ANY action brawler think NinjaG, Heavenly Sword, DMC, GoW...these games would not function without TPV. (I don't think there is a single brawler that uses FPV) *Splintercell would be designed like Dishonored so you could peak around corners BECAUSE that is the functionality TPV provides. DayZ is different. It does not need FPV. It ruins the tension. Imagine if the CounterStrike community was told, "Ohh BTW we are adding TPV to the game, yeah no need to learn how to slice the pie, stack a room or throw flashbangs, trade kills, you can simply bend the camera around, behind, under or over any obstacle in your path. Enjoy!" In fact none of the hardwon stratergies such as mass flash bang, fake flash bangs, trading kills with superior numbers via rushing, twitch aiming would exist if TPV was is CS.
  15. And this is pure denial. Watch ANY video of somebody playing in TPV and the explotive nature of it is immediately obvious. Failure to recognise this is your failing. But serious people and contributors have long moved on this discussion. Suggestions for a new perspective are what exactly? *Scrap TPV, first person only AND add the ARMA 3 height adjustment *Keep TPV but player/npc entities are only appear if you have direct LOS with your eyes *Have a close or locked over the shoulder view that does not elevate the camera Anything else?

    Idea for KoS

    I stopped reading there to.
  17. Bad argument doubled down on: "Wall hacks don't mean anything because admins might use better hacks"... Soooo.... We are playing Counter-Strike, and i'm using speed hack BUT because you are using god mode (according to you) that means my speed hack doesn't matter because your hack is better than my hack  FIX BOTH And people arguing for first person just aren't arguing a preference, even if they prefer to play in first person. First person radically changes the balance of the game, the flavour of the game, the intensity of the game. Third person diminishes all of these aspects and retards strategy and gameplay. People arguing for third person are arguing for perspective and nothing more. Third person only adds nothing, it changes nothing. First person only, does. I doubt a person defending third person can point to a single postive way that it enchances gameplay, in the theme of a survival simulator trying to best replicate a life like experience.
  18. And that, ladies and gents, is your tap out.
  19. So many strawmen and bad arguments. It's not about what people like or what we understand, it's about what is good for the flavour of the game. If you can't see how bad 3rd person ‘wallhacks’ you are in wilful denial. And admins hacking? What asinine irrelevance is this! Because some admins are "hacking" and nobody (according to you) "cries about it", equates to any concern about third person is totally void and or less important. Here’s a novel idea, how about fixing both. And third person goes way beyond the mod to the SA where admins are irrelevant. And no this isn't like KOS at all. Anybody who complains about KOS doesn't get it. Besides KOS is not about gameplay in the sense that we are talking about here.
  20. It's not controversial. It's common sense. On balance of arguments, for and against, third person loses every time. Improving mouse aiming, movement would help ARMA2 but they have fixed these issues for SA, therefore it should be scrapped.
  21. Fuck and no. (yes i read the OP post and the anwser is still the same) More random inland spawns perhaps...some of the small outlying towns, maybe even the big ones but to choose a spawn? No, no, no and no. So bad an idea it makes me sick to think of the impact it could would have on DayZ.... And i didn't even need to check the whole thread to find someone willing to give you all a perfect reason why it sucks. Sure, hopeully someone won't use it. If Vanilla DayZ doesn't implement this system we could all be happy. have an authentic experience in lack of player control and avoid your a-typical video game mechanics BUT looks like we are again capitulating to a whiny mob want to have a super fun time with their friends instead of a playing a survival game OR it could be great...but the ability to plan ahead seems fraught with danger

    DayZ Mod 1.7.7.1 Hotfix

Just ignore the stawman arguments from a clear troll. Haters gona hate...they aren't really cut out for DayZ...anyways 1.7.1.1 wrecked the game for me. I could cope with 1.7.7 a higher chance of infection and some occasional hitbox weirdness (i loved 1.7.7). The game now, i'm sorry to say, is almost completely borked BUT... if anybody thinks that this translates to futher patches making the game "easier" they are wrong. Knock downs, spawns, infections aren't working as planned. They are getting fixed. They will all be there next patch and hopefully working consistently. Keep in mind thelimited resources mod devs have. Their work is akin to trying to polish a turd. Look how long it is taking a professional, paid and enthusiastic dev team to build a working DayZ alpha...any complainers have unrealistic expectations. As for the future the SA has a comprehensive infection mechanic, it's pretty much a subgame. Same as those zombie knock downs, more ways to be injured, more ways to be trolled...it will be harder, not easier. The difference is it's going to work.

    DayZ Mod 1.7.7.1 Hotfix

Yes the mod has obviously been abandoned. No need for you to ever come back to the forum.
