This is funny...so much conjecture coupled with short memories as OP, Macdeath and others so aptly demonstrate. Rocket has a long expressed desire to leave the project but being the figurehead who drove a large portion of the sales with his passion and down to earth kiwi mannerisms his hands are tied and he is under pressure to stay as Q4 draws closer and beta looks a long way off. It's wanting to avoid the abandoning ship shit storm, which is a total crock of shit. He is "off the street" as they would say The Wire. Him staying is PR. I wish he could actually fulfil his stated desire to return to his family. It's the double edge sword of being an icon, the poisoned chalice to seeing your dream project come true. -

Standing corrected! Have a specific model in mind? I'm curious to see what you'd run. I don't think a skill level is necessary, dayz puts the tools there and it's assumed knowledge which I like. It's a slippery slope for specific items/actions requiring a perk/skill to perform.

Don't neglect altimeter watches, really compliments navigation and if they implement ballistic system it would be a nice bit of kit for long rage shooting. Altimeter watches do not drain battery life. Only gps watches do that and they are also an option to add, just balance them with battery life.

As somebody mentioned all weapons are attached as if they have a traditional two point sling. And a few other features get some more utility out of them. Slings serve two purposes. 1) Ease of carrying 2)Supporting/stabilisation during shooting. There more than half a dozen types of slings that come to mind and all serve slightly different purposes, some are used purely for tactical handling at the expense of ease of carry/stability and vice versa. There lots of slings and many ways to use them but to KISS the inclusion of three slings would cover virtually all bases. Three Slings To Rule Them All! 1) Improvised sling. Rope, cord etc. This sling is designed to allow hands free carry and two shoulder weapon carry. No benefit to aim due to low surface area 2) Traditional wide two point sling. Add the ability like bipod to deploy sling to reduce sway at cost of movement. Refer to prior picture! 3) -edit- ask grindstone for a choice mil spec sling! Three point mil spec sling. Improved draw speed/weapon ready with ability to deploy sling to reduce sway at cost of movement. Extra utility *without a sling you have to carry an object per hand, aiming drops an object or mouse wheel to drop left or right hand item *slings make player immune to having gun stolen * +10 to adding more friggin rope This is an issue faced by most FPS/any game with guns really. Slings are a bugger to animate I guess. It's a lot easier to simple attach like a magnet an object to the body rather than have a dynamic moving object having to bounce around and be effected by motion. When you add a sling the rifle/object has to have separate psychics otherwise it looks silly.

Yay...somebody else. The map and compass is in desperate need of an upgrade and new content. *Not being able to combine any piece of the map you find is silly. Let us combine any pieces of the map as we find them and let there be blank squares between sections. You can combine all 8 pieces as 4 lots of 2 but not if they are slightly different order ... Oo da faq! *Bring back the ability to put the map compass OVER the map when looking at the Map Screen. We can take basic grid bearings this way, you know like in the mod *More map types, road maps, general maps, town specific tourist maps for high detail of buildings *GPS models from grid reference only to full topographic display (rare loot) *Shamless self promotion but here is how to implement proper compass/map navigation. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/208428-improving-compassmap-functionality/ Let the player choose to turn the compass housing (if they so desire), not the game. Anybody who says a map is usless or redundant because they 'know the map' shows they don't understand the value of a map or how to one to a technical degree. Why the tautology if a bead is a sight, as a sight a bead, why refer to the article as a bead if it's just a sight? Shotgun aim comes from fit of the stock (cheek piece, castoff and so many other issues its crazy) the rib of the gun and bead(s) or alternate sights. And he didn't cover slug shooting with beads... Wasn't there was a sawn off in this thread...:P

Agree. There is a romanticism concerning "tracks" and "tracking". I would to introduce the concept of 'sign', which i've not yet seen discussed. Tracks are pretty much just useful for gauging evidence of passge or how busy an area might be based on the volume and freshness of them. It's a misconception that one simply finds a nice straight line of tracks and follows it to game. More defined "sign" is better way to represent animals (and render it clearly) instead "tracks" which is what 99% of people suggest first and don't seem to get beyond it. And it isn't just game trails (tracks). Though here is a well defined one. Deer rub their antlers on trees to scrape off velvet. Fallow use rutting pads to mark territory. Reds/Elk/Sambar use wallows. Pigs rip up the ground when digging for food. Rabbits have warrens. Lets all move beyond the notion of 'tracking', switch it to 'sign', add in real AI/biology which is to say time of day (dusk dawn heighted activity etc) then we have a hunting system worth having! And we hanv't even mentioned baits, decoys, traps, animal calling...phew save that for later The dude says go play The Hunter, i shouldn't even waste my time but here we go! Majority of all speices have croaks or rut calls. Many roar. A minority do not make many audible or at least very vocal calls that humans hear. The overwhelming majoirty of all deer spieces herd togther as both uni and multisex groups depending on time of year. Not all year, not all the time but often...and for many months! There are some spieces that go in smaller family units (sambar, hog deer especially solitary) but in many reigions such as India sambar herds are the norm. Forming herds is common behavior. They split during pre rut, rut and post rut. Males split off pre rut to feed up for antler growth, practice fighting, then for an awkward couple of weeks try to fight ruin each other. Then they get over it form back bachoelor mobs and chill out as bros-b4-hoes gang for a couple of months as they recover. Females drop their fawns and stick together as female herds protect the young. If Hellcanes experience is limited to midwest whitetale fenced hunting (nothing wrong with that) or the The Hunter of course the notion of a herd is foreign to them. As for "random ass deer" red and fallow are the most common and widley distributed deer in the world (both the Northern and Southern Hemisphere!) That they do not know this or their common behavior is enough to overlook anything else they might say.

I found a 1911, 50 rounds and two minutes later a mag on my second spawn (ever) yestersay...i suppose i was too casual hoping that SA would be different vibes and all. I can clap and point at things after all! Now to my fresh eyes magazines are obviously rarer than I remember so when i found one I thought forturne must be favoring this spawn.... Turns out casually peering into Balota AF from the Kememka main road with a pair of binos as about as good an idea as it was in the mod. And thats how i lost your precious mag and plenty of ammo to boot. I did have a blast in running through Zeleongorsk though...that mag mico is SO sweet. It made the run tremendously dull ultramarathon from gorka>devils>nwa>vybo>push>sosn>zelno well worth it

I'll start by saying I have no idea if there are any plans for the future of orienteering but I hope it is going to be addressed because the functionality of compass/map has regressed from the mod. ii) Most importantly are there plans to be able to align compass and map on the same overlay to take meaninful bearings? Then will we be able to set grid/magnetic bearings via the dial. This is where it gets a little tricky...The Compass Housing in DayZ roates as you turn. In reality only the magnetic needle turns and you manually turn the housing (the numbers) to line up with the red needle/direction of travel arrow. This is obviously done for ease of access (in order to avoid confusion because navigation can be hard to understand) A soultion for all players to this 'issue' would be the ability to set the compass to either Automatic Housing Dial and Manual Housing Dial. Automatic Housing Dial: The compass housing (the numbers) turns with the magnetic needle automaticlly. Which is to say leaving things exactlly as they are. Manual Housing Dial: Only the magnetic needle moves UNTIL we roate the compass housing either clockwise or anti clockwise and thus set bearings! Simply add a mouse wheel option to toggle it manual/automatic when the compass is raised and use any key bind Q or E etc...for your housing rotation. ii) Are they plans for more compass types? The most common and functional and widely avalible compass isn't to be found ala baseplate http://www.mcofs.org.uk/assets/mountainsafety/sa%20compass%20baseplate.jpg. The current DayZ compass (prismatic/lens?) is antiquated which is fine but still not functional because you cannot rotate the bezel ring. All you can do is take a straight bearing but since you can't interact with the map it's usless for planning direction of travel. iii) A more detailed map with more features, topographic chart *Magnetic declination *A nagivational assistant tool, grid reference overlay, http://casanovasadventures.com/catalog/maps/All-in-one-utm-reader-map-tool.jpg *Persistent notes off players maps *More variety of maps. Local tourism/town maps with highly detailed town/building descriptions, a general highway map say 1:50,000 or 1:100,000 scale, what even is the current scale of the indivudal maps.... What are your suggestions or navigtional tools you might want going foward? Comon though! Where is the love for functional navigation....

Magnetic declination, small thing but nice touch for long range and agree with the rest. And different model GPS would be nice from grid reference only to full display models.

+1 and then some. Animals in DayZ have never been convincing organic entities that feel part of a living world. They are merely slowly moving heinz.they fail on all fronts from animation, AI and 't fit in the meta. So hows it going to get beter? Animations/AI: Clearly like all ascpects of the game are going to be improved. Time and more time. Meta/World: Animals are really out of place in DayZ. They just kind of appear and don't feel natural. Deer/pig/goats travel in mobs and herds. It would be nice to have aniamls functioning as their own groups with lookouts and behaviors (fight/flight, older nanny goats/does rounding up kids/yearlings when they sense danger) that are natural. Hunting pressure (from humans) naturally pushes animals to the fringes/wilds away from towns. Mobs pressed out in remote areas gives a natural incentive to get deep into the bush for meaty rewards. You know something that isn't KOS. And then trophy collection (jaws, antlers, tusks), rare furs (albino,stripes, spots), if DayZ gets seasons tie it into animal breeding cycle (deer roaring, increased aggression, fish spawn runs). Rare animal hunting would be keep many people entertained.

Welp..i couldn't wait any longer :( The cherno wanderlust is too strong....I desire beans and footprints...And although i know where I'm going I already look foward to the comfort that a compass and a map will bring. Once again I seek the crazy towns and lonely hills. Hackers shall not weary me, nor the glitches condemn...i have faith in Rocket, a new GPU and TrackIR ready to roll on some more crazy journeys! (and hopefully posting them again) I survived your janky bullshit once before and will do so again! I've missed you DayZ!

Clearly something went wrong in terms of expections, the price etc...rocket has said so himself. Give it time. I will loose faith if in another six months they have not met the goals they set out to hit. They have repeatly stated for a long time that Q4 of this year is make or break time. If they havn't made most of the fixes you mentioned within a year gg. They way the game is going is positive and I hope for a long bright future. -
What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?

So a big part of waiting for a more advanced SA build was waiting to see how hacking was going to play out...heres the key question, going foward what is going to fix it up and when? I remember the strong promises made that hacking would be dealt with given the experience of the mod. I understand that the current build? servers? (whatever) are more vulnerable to hacks and it was known they would be and this was partially expected. But no mention of when it was going to be more secure by on the roadmap from Rezzed 2014 (from memory) -
Agree make certain backbacks rare luxury items. Properly designed load hauling packs, that move erogonomiclly that are rare. Any pack can have stuff crammed into it but it's not going to be comfortable for a sustained peroid of time. Bags like, http://www.mysteryranch.com/military/weapons-carry-packs/nice-overload-3zip-bvs-pack, http://www.mysteryranch.com/hunting/nice-frame-packs/nice-6500-pack, note the sleeping bag compartment etc... *Hydration bladder slots/small item compartments that not part of the main load area d but part of the design *Hip pockets *A frame system which allows for better movement Unique items that have abilitys tied to their design.

Great outcome! Moments like this are great...i'm glad he survived otherwise he would have felt as if the game is full of bandits and they just KoS and would have felt less like playing! When it is far from it... I think DayZ is more peaceful than people suspect and that there are less trolls. I know i've seen more people that i could have shot than people I wouldn't of been able too. The problem for everyone is that nobody is going to remember the time when nobody shot at them...

Who said anything about oil (as in engine oil)? And it's sad to detail a thread over something so small, which was just meant for illustrative purposes, by inventing nit picks one after the other. Vegtable oil, fat, beeswax, etc are fine at preservation and all natural. Thanks for another non contribution.
