-Don't pack it up with gear, it dissapears -Run around, keep mouse wheeling looking at all the corners covering every inch, if it's in an object it might be stuck - Walk to each patch of the tent, scroll, move to the next, stand still and repeat -When you die you won't be able to re-move the tent, i reccomend keeping a spare tent in a tent in case you do

Get rid of Snipers completely?
Trizzo replied to noobsmcgee@gmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Now, now that's unhelpful and untrue. "Snipers"? You've misdiagnosed the problem. You can get rid of snipers in a game where there are guns and you make your own rules. You could get rid of 'sniper rifles' the AS50, nobody would miss this. Then maybe, but probally not, the m107. We test this in a patch and my suspicion is that most complaining stops. The next problem is hacked AS-50s. But a wipe as all AS50s would do a tremednous amount of good (if this is possible) As for the fun factor it isnt going to happen because people are having a bad time. Rocket likes a bit of S&M, he never started out with the intention of making this a fun experience. The outdoors, hunting and surivial situtations are more often then not really, really unenjoyable experiences. -
Sh*t...i let slip my secret hacked gun...

This a complex question. So many different considerations. I'll break it down into two situations and why one is better in the other. Primarily as a solo surviror you want a gun thats a crutch. The M240 gives you range, suppression and knock down power. You can suppress players, kill Zeds will ease and one hit other hostiles. I pick the m240 because it does different tasks. Want to know what the GMPG stands for? Genral purpose machine gun. I'd stronly argue that anything that performs more roles is better for a solo player. In a group you want to take the SAW. It carries twice as much lead than the M240 (critical for firefights), you can suppress for twice as long, mow down Zeds, and then if a hostile is out of the effective cone of the SAW your marksmen can engage futher distances. It's called the Squad Automatic Weapon for a reason. But there is one consideration that I might but above all else. Whatever you're most effective with.

To make "ammo" for modern rifles you need shell casing, primer, powder, bullet (not for all rifles). Lets take the 7.62 from the m24. You can 'reload' a bullet by replacing the primer (that the firing pin hits when you pull the trigger) fill the empty case (that you eject after firing) with powder (gun powder), put in your bullet then using a bullet press, press it together. Its a lot more complicated than that but thats how it generally goes for center fire cartridges. That depends on having stockpiles of poweder, bullets and primers which you can easily buy on mass. Now...you can make "gun powder" (black powder is made of seventy-five parts salt peter finely ground, fifteen parts charcoal, and ten parts sulfur, its black, smokey and rough!), FYI you can use your own piss in part of making gunpowder! You can mould bullets, you can reuse shell casings, making primers im not so savy on the how.The problem is you need engergy/resources to do this! Finding the metals to make ammunition might be difficult...melting copper is one possibility, using a furnace. The first basic "hand cannons" have existed since the 13th Centuary. A simple rifle would be best because modern cartriages use complex mixtures of powders that without industry would be harder to make. As for stockpiles ammo well Wr6 told you about that...my friend uses ammo for his mosin nagant dated sine the 50's, i've used ammunition from the 60's. It works...but its not ideal. I had a Lee-enfield 303-25 , the cartridge fell out of use and I was given surplus rounds. I fired 3 rounds, the last one disintergrated in the barrel causing a nasty blockage that almost ruined the rifle.

You'd find guns in homes in Aus, guns are legal bud. What you'd find is a majorty of bolt action rifles (.22 to any variety of huting rifles), shotguns and low calibre semi-automatic guns, such as shotguns and rifles.

Hey everbody! 'd like to present my DayZ Channel, DayZwTrizzo. Its going to focus on Solo Survival with an emphasise on survival skills and single player combat I made this map and compass guide because not to many videos actually explain how they work or what their features are. I've linked part two of my Navigation Series which Compass Reading/Compass Navigation. I believe this is the first video that actually demonstrates how to use a compass in the game. Enjoy! Subsrcibe, like, comment! Or if you hate it don't. More videos are coming, the next release planned is Part II of the compass guide tommorrow and then a walkthrough on playing on expert servers, how to scavage and how to fight as a solo player.

Classic mistake, chasing the zero. If you look where the bullets fell just before you said "dammit i need to adjust again" you cansee that you didn't need to change your zeroing. You can clearly see dirt puffing up right where you hit, to the left of his feet. Take your time, see where your shots fall, then correrct. Dont readjust the zero with each missed shot, thats blaming the rifle, not the shooter. The problem wasn't the zero you weren't leading enough. And shame on that player for running in the open and not right against the wall.

How to know which servers gear carries over to?
Trizzo replied to mjp808's topic in New Player Discussion
Yes in mean private hive. Yes there are obviously hacked items, like guns that dont spawn without a hacked script, there is evidence of it in the server log when somebody makes something, such as spawning 500 rounds of ammo for a legit gun, or hard to find tools. Hives are made by several mindests, laregly by people and clans pissed off at hacking/duping. -
Great desmonstrational video for Dayz 101: Bandits kill people because they like getting a stiffy. Thats why when you see one you need to run.

i'm new and i get killed by everyone, even when i say FRIENDLY PLAYER in the chat screen.
Trizzo replied to Gert-Jan's topic in New Player Discussion
There are no owners in DayZ, only holders. Heres my best piece of advice. You know all that gear you found? Accept that you're going to loose it at any moment after getting it. If you don't like that i reccomend control panel and remove program as a potential fix to your frustrations. But a better one is learning how to deal with players and survive. As for players if you're unarmed, scream friendly and run up to them you're putting yourself at their mercy. Get a gun (even a weak one to balance to sitation), scope them out, keep a distance, stay out of their direct line of sight (to their side, or behind) never run in front of someone/turn you're back. There are many friendly experiences to be had. Unfortunately? DayZ and Hunger Games are examples of the nature state, and DayZ is not unfortunate in sharing similarties. There are no social bonds between people (though hunger games isn't stricly an exmaple of the nature state). When you remove social contacts and institutionalised bonds between individuals life becomes "nasty, brutish and short". Zombies are and would be just one consideration. DayZ is actually the most perfect realisation of a Zombie Film/TV scenario to date. Zomibes are a threat to surival but just one of many, the others are nature and the other man (though i think it is incorrect to seperate those two). This would destroy the feeling of DayZ but at least you pointed that out! And DayZ standalone will be another game to look for. -

Expert removes Third Person, Waypoints, Crosshairs and Perhiperial white dots that indicate zombies/danger. Most people don't like that though! Good move on password removal. Just means you might have to check the logs more frequently, its a really good server. I will make it a home if it gets 20+ people at peak times. -
Fucking awsome lads and im a hero...that will teach people to run up to two man bandit teams who are obviously talking on voip

I've murdered 110 people, I'm still alive, and i'm coming for your beans...

May we meet in glorious battle! To all the butthurt people, there is far to much analysis going on here. There's guns in dayz and no rules. That's all you need to know. -
How to know which servers gear carries over to?
Trizzo replied to mjp808's topic in New Player Discussion
Probally a private hive server. In the server browser look for a combination of "Private" and or "Hive". Private hives keep their own data on your character. You dicscovered the big con, you can't immeditaly transfer your gear... but in fact its a huge plus. If you find a hive in a 'local area' (rather region) with low ping and lag they generally have better performace and gameplay. Severs with a prolific amount of hackers/hacked gear do lag. A lot of hive hosts check the logs to get rid of hackers/ban them, they delete hacked gear, nobdy can transfer hacked stuff into the server from the out, hives spawn more cars etc and admins generally keep things honest. Of course when a hive goes down or you quit it however much gear and time you invested won't be transfered to another server. Honestly this isnt a big deal. The immediate gameplay is what keeps me hooked. Loosing my data from hive to hive is essentially a clean slate. Its often fun to start fresh by bringing you back to the games roots and you can try different things. If it bothers you dont freak out, join a non hive sever and your character is restored. -
What's wrong with "bandits" in this game?
Trizzo replied to yoshez's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What? You don't like killing people and not getting -humanity for it? Bandits are gawds gift to righteous of the wasteland. If it takes a few people getting butthurt so that i can one day chase down a freshly spawned bandit and hack him or her to pieces with the hatchet and not loose my blue shirt and silly hat, well... so be it! -
"Bullets do wonky shit when they meet wetpack." I once hit a rabbit with a .308 soft point 150gr . It was on a rise so nothing behind it. I let go the shot and the rabbit didn't move. Hmm thats odd, i went to inspect it. It was hit with such force that the bullet simply passed through the soft rabbit that there almost no visible damage. The entry wound was not even the size of a penny. I'd suggest a pen stabbed into cardboard sized hole. Same with plastics bottles on fence posts. I've hit them with large calibers and they don't move, it passed through, the bottle unmoved. It's always funny seeing new shooters infuritated by their seeming lack of success at knocking down bottles, when they are actually riddled with bullet holes. Last .22 story or suggestion (if you can find an empty oil drum!) Stand 50m+ away, shoot straight at it. You'll hear one high pitched "ding" of penetration and a dull "whump" of it failing to exit the barrel. Higher FPS would go through no doubt, i agree its all about the bullet.
-
Bouncing .22s stories are pretty much just stories. A .22 has enough power to penetrate a skull at 0-150 ms easily (talking about your average run of the mill .22). When it hits the skull it will pretty much crumble/mushroom/expand, the notion that it has enough energy to then bounce in a compleltly different and multiple directions after penetrating skin-> skull->tissue/muscle/brains->then deflecting and somehow maintaing velocity is suspcious. Of course all bullets can deflect and change trajectory in the body but the .22 being especially gifted has no evidence to back up the claim. Not suggesting you made this claim but for an example for how complex balasitcs are, i'd suggest a .22 traveling at 4000 fps would do less "damage" than one traveling at a lower velocitiy. Increased increases spin->stability, increasing penetrating, making the bullet more stable but less prone to rapid "breaking" upon impact. It all depends on the bullet design though...
-
You wouldn't need two .22s to head to do the job and .22 is the perfect surirvor rifle! I'd take it mainly due to the fact that 500 rounds of ammo would weigh about as much as 2 mags of generic assault rifle ammo. You usally buy it in boxes 500 rounds at a time. A .22 will surely be added. -CZ is famous for its .22s more so than their big calibers (think the CZ in dayz) Those are overpriced, precious euro guns. - The 10/22 is one of the most prolific civilan rifles in the world -22 lever actions are another, winchester 250 for example But not just .22, we need over-under shotguns, more bolt action rifles (ruger, sako, mosin, mauser aka-civilan), baikal rifle (one of russias most prolific models), double rifles, a bigger map with clear rural areas with an emphasise on civilian (think the begining sections of stalker) with a focus on melee and small arms (with the occasional well hidden assault rifle that can imagine a farmer would hide out of sight), this would be a place for noobs to cut their teeth. Military hardware must be harder to find and more spread out, all of this has been dicussed and should and probally will be implemented.

The constant and dynamic prisoner dilema of PvP encounters. Then its antithesis, dynamic social contracts made with other survivors. Then everything else. The only game to simulate real map/contour/compass navigation (that i know of), the isolation, exploration, elements of hunting animals, scaveging, zombies? DayZ is three sub games. PvP, survival/rpg elements and NPC encounters. You can choose which interaction you want but the dyamic nature of the game often throws any of these elments right at your face, testing your improvisation and the depth and breadth of you skills (navigation, stealth, sniping, etc). The game is what you want it to be. Game? Wait a second. This is broken sketchy mod. Most of what i mentioned is barely functional or outright laughable in it's implementation. Yet that barely registers in my mind. It sucks you right into it's world. This mod that has produced the most intense firefights and PvP encounters out of any FPS I know of, having played FPS since Quake, DN3D, System Shock, CS1.0 through to CoDs/Stalker. I hope standalone crushes the experience i've had so far.
