I don't KOS but I would assume most do it in fear of dying. If I had to put in a percentage of people I've run into that have or tried to killed me on sight it would be around 95%. Some obviously KOS for fun. Those are mostly the ones running around in groups just because they have the advantage. Just a few days ago I was chased down by a pair of bandits and killed. It's not like I had anything worth value. I just started but they chased me through a couple towns anyways. Can't stop KOS unless you have RP moderated servers or PVE servers which may take forever

I would suggest that we all play on the same server. Interactions with friendly outdoorsman would be cool but as soon as the population starts rising more and more people join.

FINALLY, other people who are living off the land. Or at least that's what it sounds like you're doing. I refrain from taking any food found in homes. The only thing I loot is clothing, a bag, a rifle/ammo (Non-military), and little things needed like a fishing hook, knife, axe etc. I get all my food from hunting animals or fishing. I have a camp set up in the middle of the woods up north. Fishing I find difficult to rely on because a lake is hard to come by at least for me since I don't use a map nor am I comfortable will the layout of the land. I always find deer and boar in big open fields. Pretty easy to spot and they seem to always be there. I always catch a carp or 2 if I come across a lake. Honestly haven't shot anything else because I haven't seen them before. But right now since there isn't any PVE servers allowed it's hard to just wonder out anywhere without having to look out for bandits. I wish there were animals like bears that could attack you and extreme elements like snow that require you to stay warm to survive. If your on a low pop server let me know and I'll hop on. We might run into each other at one point.

Experimental Branch: 0.51 Discussion
ishotbambi replied to SmashT's topic in PC Experimental Updates
I like the whole, loot is scarce now, thing but for a fresh spawn you will die 90% of the time from starvation or dehydration. I understand it's not crucial to fish, hunt, and plant for food but with the respawn being so low you just can't do that. I search a whole city and only found a can of cola and a Zuchinni....a whole city.... -
I wish I had his awesome beard though

I would say I'm fairly new. Played the mod a lot but the standalone much less. After playing a few times, joining up with friends and setting up around high traffic areas for some PVP I got tired of looting for a couple hours and then dying. Now I've just been surviving. Not just the normal way of looting buildings for food and drinks. All the food I eat are from the wooded areas whether it be apples, berries, fish or game. I allow myself to grow tomatoes but I stay away from towns mostly. I stay hydrated from rain or lake water and boil it to disinfect. Staying warm and dry by building a fire which I also use to cook all my food. When I loot the only things I take are weapons/ammo for PVP(I only kill someone if I have to) and to kill animals for food, clothing that doesn't involve combat use (vests, helmets), tools (matches, axe, knives). Food, drinks, medical supplies, explosives, binoculars, etc are not allowed to be picked up. I kind of have to judge whether it would be fair or not to take. I've been doing this for quite some time without running into any combat situations. Met a couple people who saw my fire from a distance as I was cooking food. Luckily they were friendly. I gave them some food and they went on their way. I play on the experimental servers so If you are in the middle of nowhere and see someone come say hello. I never stay in one spot for too long though.

I think that's what I might do. As good as it is having a vehicle and getting from place to place quickly as well as storing a bunch of stuff to take to the trader, I'm starting to think it may be easier to survive without have a vehicle that can be spotted easily. But then I have the issue of storing stuff for safe keeping in case I die. This game would be a lot easier with a team.

Need to buy headset (Suggestions?)
ishotbambi replied to ishotbambi's topic in Technology/Programming
it was only $600. Tv works fine. 42 inch Vizio. I'd rather use this tv than a smaller monitor. It's my first pc that I'll be using for moderate gaming. Give me a break lol -

Dayz works fine on this computer. Don't know what that was all about. And if you think I should have bought/built a better one, it was logical in my position as I'm leaving for USMC bootcamp in Nov. I'll end up buying one after once I'm settled in one place with more money I can dedicate to gaming. For now, this works fine. -
Just bought a new computer and now I need a headset. It seems in dayz, at least from what I've experienced, they are less likely to shoot you if you can talk instead of type. It's also easier during combat to negotiate. And maybe I can form a group easier this way. I have an Alienware x51 with windows 8.1. I'm looking for a headset under $100. I'm using my tv as a monitor so I sit about 10-12 feet away from the back of my PC. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Bought a new computer so I can finally play this game. Have been playing on EPOCH servers. If I had to rate my success out 100, I would give myself a solid 15. My first server, I got enough to buy a car. Players there were not very hostile. I was only shot at once by a guy who passed me in his car and took a quick shot at mine. But, for some reason as I was taking a tire off an abandoned car I was kicked. Came back the next day and someone stole my car. -__- left server. The second server, which is the one I'm dedicated to now, is somewhat hostile. I literally walked for about an hour until I was roughly 10 mins from Stary trade when a humvee with a gunner mowed me down. I had no ammo, 1 gun and a bunch of nooby stuff. Clearly I was not a threat but they shot anyway. Second spawn, I again walked for about an hour, finding an ak47 which I sold to buy a jeep. Began looking for a place to set up base. FOR THE FIRST TIME a non hostile player spotted me in the middle of the woods and asked for a ride to stary trade. I was surprised that he didn't shoot me because I didn't know where he was. He could have easily killed me and took my vehicle. Unfortunately, we went our separate ways. I then tried to build a base but apparently you need a plot pole which is 60 gold. WUT. And now I'm here wondering, how does one get that much gold AND stay alive long enough spend it? Maybe I'm underestimating the difficulty of this game. Maybe I need to team up. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Idk. Feedback is greatly appreciated.

downloaded the mod off of steam. do I have to do anything extra. Before the game loads up it says requires addon. When I try to join a server it says I have a bad version of the game

Which files in the rar should I put in the directory?

Downloaded Arma 2 and Arma 2 OA. Then I downloaded Dayz. The game starts up but I can't join any of the servers. I believe I need to update Dayz mod. For some reason dayz commander wont download on my computer. Can anyone leave a link to where I can download the update or give me steps on how to get this to work?
