  1. You know what's not fun? Spending 30 minutes trying to find a server that isn't currently in nighttime. You know what would be better than a fresh can of beans? Being able to see a server's current time from the server browser.
  2. I disagree with your statement for a few different reasons. Firstly, what evidence do we have that throwing more money at the development process will result in a better finished product? Will it result in it being released sooner? Yeah, probably. Will bringing on tons more people to put their hands into the development of the game make it better? Not necessarily.Too many cooks in the kitchen, as they say. Secondly, raising money on Kickstarter typically means selling your product for a much lower price than the eventual retail price. So, let's say the full-retail release price of DayZ turns out to be $40. Now let's say they Kickstarter it for $15 and 1 million people buy-in at the $15 level who would actually have paid full $40 on release. This means they lost gross $25 million in expected revenue to gain an extra $15 million in pre-release development capital. This may not always be the best decision for a development team to make. Thirdly, rushing the development and release of the game by any means is only going to hurt the overall quality of the game. I'd rather wait longer to be able to have a better experience with the game when it is actually released. There are TONS of awesome games on the market to play in the mean time.
  3. I base the price I am willing to pay for a game on how much enjoyable game hours I will get out of it. I would happily pay $60 for DayZ. And then I would happily pay more money later one for additional content. I mean come on, how many HUNDREDS of hours are we all going to play it? Yeah...a lot. As opposed to some release-date $60 console campaign game that takes ~10 hours to beat.

'Trust no-one' - is that really good advice?

If you want to interact with a player hold them up at gun point after voice chatting with them in the area. This way you are safe, and the other player knows that if you wanted to kill him you would not have announced yourself in the first place.

And if you think that the SA is going to be the same as the current Alpha state you have not yet fully understood game development. Because we can't be logged in 24/7 guarding our gear (you know, real life and stuffz) I think it is perfectly reasonable to implement a safe way of storing a limited amount of gear while you are logged out.

Building a PC! Need help :)

He said it's old and crappy - there will be nothing worth salvaging except possibly the case if it is a decent one.

    Are you a PC Gamer?

Not the best designed poll options, but w/e.

Use an FX-4300 CPU ($130) with at least a Radeon 7850 ($170). If you don't have to purchase an OS then you may be able to use those two models in your build and keep it at $600. But like others have said, it is often in your best interest to wait until you have a little more money. Ideally, put as much money as you can into the GPU (as long as you use a decent Quad-core like the 4300 as your CPU).
  9. I'm for more emphasis on survival personally, as long as it is done right and brings a new level of enjoyment to the game. But then again if someone made Mountain Man Simulator 2013 I would probably be the first to buy it.

It could be anything but I hope to have a way to store at least a certain amount of gear/suppliers that is safe/unlootable for as long as your current character is alive.

Have you ever had a good play?

The thing DayZ needs to have for me personally to get more replay value is base building. I want to collect materials, fortify a base, and be able to at least somewhat safely store gear in it.
  12. The zeds just have to be programmed with a set patrol area. If they have been taken out of that area and are no longer actively chasing someone they need to slowly make their way back to their normal area. This way you could work as a team to distract the zeds but then once you leave that area the zeds will walk back to their set patrol area. I don't think that would be very difficult to program in, but I've only done a little programming so maybe I'm wrong, lol.

I hope we can build some sort of base that could be found/looted by other players to some extent but also a way to 100% safely store gear for as long as your character isn't killed. Like maybe a base that could be broken into with the right explosives but inside is an impenetrable safe that can be used as a safe "bank" mechanism with a limited amount of slots.

    Are Tents Working Yet?

It has nothing to do with being a "good" player (and how can you even define such a thing in a game like Day Z?). I've always gotten the most enjoyment from open world games like Day Z when I can collect and store what I find. So when I store tons of stuff in tents and then it all gets wiped out by a server restart or something it kinda destroys my motivation to play.
  15. I stopped playing a few months back, and during that time tents were very buggy and keeping the gear you collect was difficult. How are they now? I'm thinking about playing again since standalone is going to be delayed for a while, but I don't enjoy gearing up just to lose it all because of buggy tents : /
