Remove the ability to store rifles in backpacks
GBTP replied to GBTP's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Besides a practical understanding of basic physics and spatial understanding I don't have a lot of real world experience traveling with rifles; ammunition weight would have never occurred to me as being more of hindrance than the actual weapons themselves. Edit for grammar -
Random spawns all over the map maybe?

"Huh? Who's footprints are these?"

Why don't people leave the coast?
GBTP replied to victusmortuus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I agree and wish that the larger towns were further into the map and further apart from one another. -

I need a few buddies, heavy weapons, a paypal account and as many antibiotics as I can find and travel server to server caravan style, charging people to cure their infections. -

Better lootable areas? I figure you have a higher concentration of lootable buildings closer together between the two cities. -
Definitely buy balls.

Remove the ability to store rifles in backpacks

I would love to see that. Edit: I googled hunting back pack (I just wasn't familiar) it looks like they just *sometimes* have a flap or a pouch on the outside of the pack that allows you to strap in a rifle? I could see there being a/a couple packs in game with a dedicated weapon slot that didn't count against it's carry load. But yeah, you shouldn't be able to throw tires or an engine in your back pack... A jerry can maybe, if it was the only thing.. -
I don't fire unless they engage me first. I die a lot...

You need to crawl more and run less. Unfortunately you can't pick up the wood chopping axes in the stumps you will find around. You can find Axes around, but they will be laying on the ground. If... er... When you do get spotted by a zombie your best bet will be to break line of sight multiple times, using buildings or trees/bushes if you aren't in a city. Keep an eye on your sound and visibility and remember zombies can't run indoors, so you can use that to your advantage by running through buildings to give yourself a little breathing room.

A previous post suggested hazmat suits to avoid airborne infection that could be ripped and need to be mended; I really liked the idea of having to repair the damaged suit for it to function and thought it would be great to see that applied elsewhere and require specific tools to do so... A few basic examples: Guns that need to be cleaned with a cleaning kit Hatchets and knives that need to be sharpened with a whetstone Meat that expires... Maybe salt you could lengthen how long it stays good for? Even water treatment tablets for non-bottled water. Damaged backpack that holds less inventory until mended with thread and needles? Maybe spare fabric? Possible even go so far as to be able to scavenge some materials from other items; like reverse attachments? Ie. You could take a piece of clothing and break it down into strips of fabric to repair a torn backpack? What do you guys think? I apologize if this has already been covered.

Just got a chance to show someone that my hero skin means more than just pumping other players full of blood bags, but that I won't just kill someone for being in front of me. I was in the coast side radio tower when a bambi ran upstairs in a panic because he was being chased by a pack of zombies and needed to find a defensible location, but with no gun or even an axe he didn't have a chance. As soon as he saw me in the room standing there gauging his reaction he quickly threw out a friendly and a few quick words, asking me if I was really a hero, saying he hadn't actually met one yet. I don't know what it was I trusted about this kid, but I did what was probably the biggest gamble that DayZ has to offer... I gave him a gun. He didn't disappoint either, said it was nice to meet a real hero, we held the tower against a solid 15 or so zombies and then found an opening we could make a break for it through. once we were able to reach the tree line and make sure we weren't followed out by any stray zombies we talk for a few before parting way. Moments like these remind me of why I choose to be a hero in a world of bandits, and what I love about this game.

I hope that it does indeed have at least equivalent system requirements, lower would be awesome! I am running DayZ on a windows partition on a Mac laptop and it gives me a little bit of trouble on the higher graphics settings.. *Crosses fingers*

Stats Pop-up (Insert Key) Missing In 1.7.7?
GBTP replied to sunhawk's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I believed it was removed prior; and, to my understanding, the debug menu no longer shows blood level. -
I was visualizing a durability percentage, but having some sort of visual cue that would mark when it is getting low, even to the extent that you wouldn't know exactly how close an item was to malfunction would make routine maintenance a must. Maybe not have weapons break but other negative symptoms to their disrepair like decreased damage or jamming?

I could see a good system as one that would only record your longest surviving character to date; Showing only the stats for that character (Z kills, player kills, miles, beans eaten, blood lost etc.) and would be overwritten if you survived longer with another character. Edited for conceptual clarity.

DayZ is my reward.
-
Life doesn't reward you for surviving, why should this? E: If anything you should age and your character should get weaker and sicker due to malnutrition and poor hygiene and eventually just die.

GBTP replied to PooPoo's topic in New Player Discussion
You could look at a map online, but technically that might be considered cheating if you don't have one in game. Follow the road along the coast and you will find bigger cities. if you hit an area without trees or road youre at the edge of the map. turn around, rinse, repeat. -
Optional feature?
-
Assuming they have a base. Until they add farming I don't need a base.
-
That would be cool, I would love even so far as to see a line tracker of their travels... though realistically won't see a feature like that it would be very interesting to see how people moved around the map.

I like that idea of being able to get more info off a corpse, but not having that be mandatory, it would need to be an item users could carry, but for people to want to carry it around there would need to be a benefit to having it. RPers out there might not like the idea of their character keeping a diary if that isn't how they visualize their character and not giving them the choice to have or not have it would be disappointing. Edit: That said if there was a 'Journal' item I would love to carry it around, even if it took an inventory spot I could absolutely see my character keeping a journal of his survival. What if you could take screen shots, or have map markers that could lead to whatever you wished if someone found your journal... hidden loot? Bandit trap...? *Write "Here is my loot tent" in Journal* *Drop journal on ground* *Wait for poor sucker that picks up the journal to come looking for the 'tent'* *Loot corpse of poor na

Great suggestion!! Hasmat suits and gasmasks would be a great addition! Only criticism would be that bandages are not hermetically sealed, they are designed to breath to promote healing, so you wouldn't gain from sealing a hole in a hazmat suit with a bandage.
