planned obsolescence? Obviously not the case if I still have the Same 1st gen PS3 and 360 I bought nearly 10 years ago...
-
You're console won't break if you're smart about it.
-
It's not about hard, you still need to know how to do it, you still have to take the time to learn how, regardless of how difficult it is it is still a unique knowledge base you have to aquire. and I still have my first PS3 and for that matter my original 360, not even a single HD failure or overheating issue. The consoles are built fine, as long as you take care of them, like any electronic device. Computers can overheat too. And at least I have never had to clean a virus off of a console. Didn't you hear sarkasm0? I'm a brick wall.

Cut down on the swearing, I'm not trying to argue, I'm trying to debate. You're throwing around fucks and shits and not even taking the time to edit what you type. Whether you care about accessibility or not it is important to gaming 'in general'. Needing to upgrade your system to play new games sucks. at least when I bought a PS3 it lasted me for 10 years, even if it didn't have the same graphics you could get from a custom built PC, assuming you know how to custom build a PC.

You're not understanding me, I'm only talking about the character movement portion of control, I know that a mouse and the right joystick or comparable for looking, I'm saying that the keyboard and left joystick are not comparable for moving. I never said you only need one joystick, I'm only talking about the one joystick that keyboard/mouse setup doesn't have; the joystick that I want to have in addition to the mouse/other joystick.

I wish they could create a cost efficient console that could match the worlds best gaming computers on a hardware level while still being affordable, but they can't. More important than the best graphics or the smoothest running processes is accessibility, Consoles make so much money because they are universally accessible; anyone can understand how a console works, you put the game in, you hit the start button, you play. Mom's and grandparents can't and won't figure out how to build a computer to optimize gaming so their kids can play a game, but they can just go to any electronics retailer and get an xbox or a playstation and know that it will just plug in and play. People don't need to know how to update a graphics driver or install a faster processor to play a new game that just released and stay current with the gaming community because they know no matter what the game is or requires their console will be able to play it. I think that games should be made so that anyone can enjoy them, and consoles make the a possibility. I know that when I buy a system I will never have to upgrade it, or take it apart and change anything, or have to buy more of anything down the road to play the newest titles or to buy a game recommended by my friend, and that is important to me.

But we aren't talking 'in general', we are talking about gaming. Yeah, If I need to throw down some spreadsheets or whip up a fat batch of emails I am going to use my computer and a keyboard. Beside the point. But I'm not asking you to map out a keyboard, believe it or not I'm not responding to you from my console, I'm using a keyboard to type this all out, I can see all of the buttons and figure out what button could proxy what button, I'm not arguing that the keyboard doesn't have enough keys. And if that's about it then the argument that a controller doesn't have enough buttons really doesn't stack up either. I want 360 degrees at each thumb. End of story. Until a keyboard can offer that I do not think that, in my personal opinion, a keyboard/mouse set up beats a console controller.
-
I worry that I am not making myself clear... It's not about comfort, it's about degrees of control. Keyboard = 8; joystick = 360. Even if the game only supports one or so hundred degrees of movement Using a keyboard will only ever offer 8 I don't need to type in chat when I can talk through a mic, I don't need 101 separate keys when a Dpad radial menu can utilize functionality of easily 12 commands by itself. I don't even know why you brought up doing work when we are discussing the merits of game playing.
-
It doesn't seem to matter what type of keyboard it is. Do you have a keyboard that replaces the Q W E A S and D keys with a joystick?
-
You can turn off 'Aim-Assist' I prefer using a joystick to move my character instead of 6 buttons, I don't mind using the mouse, I mind using the keyboard.
-
The suspense and difficulty shouldn't come from fumbling with the controls and not hitting the right button at the right time, it should come from good programming and atmosphere. And I don't think it's fair, or appropriate, to say that playing an FPS game with a controller is retarded; I play on both console and computer and I prefer to play shooters on my console because I prefer to use a controller, for me it is both more intuitive and more accurate, having only 8 degrees of movement (q w e a s d) independent from look is archaic and cumbersome to me.

+1 on the posture improving for time survived - Great idea

Heroes don't need a forum to ourselves, because we don't need to complain constantly when they remove our overpowered grief cannons.

A tent's contents should only exist for as long as the character that placed them is alive. When that character dies the items stored in the tent should be gone. Edit for clarity.

Bandits would use the flag to trick players into thinking they were friendly and then kill them. Defeating the purpose of the white flag.

The best bet for not getting spotted is going to be your ground shuffle, You just have to be patient with moving when there are zombies around. If you can't stand it the shift button will help, it's still slow but it will knock a line or two off your vis meter. Stay close to walls, you'll notice that you are much less visible when you're right up against a wall, if you're in a town or city, hug the walls, move slow and use your lean to peek around corners before going out blindly.

They spent time with one character so that another, in context, unrelated character can be fully equipped? That's not preparedness. Storing items while your character lives and resting to stop infection.

Viral infection and Player corpse reanimates

Maybe the genetic difference that grants us immunity only protects us as long as we are alive? -
Viral infection and Player corpse reanimates

I have been thinking this must be on the 'long list' for a while, and definitely agree with you. I would love to be scavenging a small town and hear that familiar fly buzzing, turn the corner looking for the corpse to see if it has any much needed gear and find it has already reanimated. I would really love to see the reanimated dead players be substantially tougher than the traditional herders (Mini boss status difficult?) "I need a coke bad... But do I need it bad enough to engage that hero walker...? ... I could just die of thirst.. it's cool." Edited for clarity. -
I like this concept. Gear would still be there but that way your new character 'John' wouldn't have the utmost intimate knowledge of exactly where your last character 'Steve' had stashed all of his loot. A type of server cycling. I understand this wouldn't be feasible because then you wouldn't be able to stay with your group or clan if you couldn't choose the server you respawned in. But it works to tackle the issue that I have with people hording equipment so they never have to survive without the best gear while still balancing the realism people demand from items not vanishing. Edited for clarity.

Loving the constructive feedback guys! Would hate to burden everyone with Suggestions that didn't appeal to literally every single person with a keyboard! My mistake guys for misunderstanding subjectivity.

Home fallout shelters, both standing and underground styles. I am surprised reading through this that there was only one mention of this and even that was a brief and loose mention. I don't know much about much about Eastern Europe but I know that there are plenty of people in the states, and not just hicks/rednecks, that have built or bought fallout shelters, generally in their backyard, and keep them stocked. I would love to find even just one tool shed in a back yard with a 'trap' door style ladder down to a small shelter. You could find some canned food, a water tank that could function like well pumps to refill, civ weapons, Flashlight, lantern if they add one, batteries if they add them as a feature, particle masks, civ medical supplies, tents? What do you guys think? Edit: I lost sight of the OP topic 'Huge Structures' That was my mistake, I will Post this as an independent suggestion

I guess I just take issue with people stock piling equipment in tents and then just running a fresh spawn to gear up right away. As a concept it breaks the fourth wall for me.

You couldn't fit a rifle in a backpack. Maybe a sea bag.

In DayZ I use a full mag (contrary to how I play console shooters where I generally reload after each engagement). I generally play against the environment and not other players and for the most part don't need more than a few rounds at a time. If I'm in a situation where I will need a full mag I should probably be running anyways...
