  1.  ...i wrote the damn thing, and i didnt say i hated KoS. Also, i would have at least looted his body if i did kill him. when i followed that guy i was shooting at zombies. AND thats not the name of the server so...

You guys are crazy. if you want to try and turn this around on me, at least use my actual words in the context that i used them...

    What part of this:

What the F#@k is wrong with the DayZ players today? I remember when I first started playing DayZ, at least a year ago. You remember when somebody would say "Anybody in Cherno?" and you could watch side chat, 5 minutes later, they would team up with somebody else who was marooned in Cherno by themselves and then they would head north and play some mother flippin' dayz. These days however, "Anybody in Cherno?" is usually followed by a death message.

Would lead me to believe you don't mind KoS?

  2. looting a dead body is such a fun part of the game though, like opening a gift on christmas morning.  Would have to see that changed.  There must be a good way to organically promote cooperation and team work without building in penalties and such

I think that base building may help.  But even then you're going to have groups of people and as soon as someone stumbles across their base or starts sniffing around they will kill them.  As a friendly lone wolf, I fully expect to be KoS now, and I don't see that changing much in the SA.  Unless I can wire up a heart rate monitor that explodes my corpse after I die... they will be able to get everything they need from me if they just shoot me.  Unless there are classes or leveling (and NO, I don't want these things), there's no reason to "see what a guy can offer".  Unless you think you can talk him into giving up his camp/stash.

I personally think that looting your own body should not be possible after death, however.  I don't know how that could happen, but that may make people think twice about engaging, especially engaging relatively geared up guys who have a chance at killing you.

  3.

I was owning it. I'm running down the east coast, in the tree line, and a player runs out in front of me, small world!?. it scared me! I myself have been corrupted, i popped off a few rounds.

the vanilla thing... thats not what i meant. my server as extra buildings and stuff. i agree with you about keeping it fresh, but its not working. i player kill, i shoot on site most of the time. i just think the game would be better if people played it like they would, if it were real. it is after all a simulation. no it shouldnt be one big happy family, thats not how it would be in real life. thats not what i was saying... idk. if your a bandit thats cool too. it is a valid playing style. but isnt everybody a bandit? essentially. its easyier to be a BA in a virtual world... lol, idk, just ranting. i do realize now that there are 100000 post just like this. sorry lol

You, my friend, are a hypocrite.  Coming from a zero combat logged, two total kills (I only shoot after fired upon), over one year veteran of DayZ... what are you even saying?  "I hate KoS."  "Well, I mostly KoS."  "I shot at the guy and he ran away, so I followed him shooting periodically."

    Are you freaking serious?

What the F#@k is wrong with the DayZ players today?

    You.

I especially like the "I recently rented a server but I won't plug it."  Says US333Nate.  Laughable.  Go crawl back into your hole.

    --------------------------------------

All that said, here's my sage advice:

You have to quit letting the way other play ruin your game experience.  I tried the private hive route, I experienced more hackers than public hives.  I tried white listed servers in hopes of less KoS... I was disappointed.  I haven't played any other "mods" of DayZ, 99% of my playtime has been public hive servers.

Don't give the people you apparently can't stand the power to "ruin your game".  In the end, it's a game.  The fun in this game (for me) is really spawning (getting basically a full load-out of survival gear: waterbottle, hatchet, matches, and a tin can) and getting that first decent military weapon and some ammo for it.  I usually get somewhat bored around the same time and start wandering the hot spots in the north.  I had an encounter at Stary a couple of days ago, a guy in a guillie suit fired at or near me.  He didn't hit me and I could have lit him up, so I assume he was either firing warning shots or shooting at the zeds I had aggroed.  I didn't stay to find out, I hightailed it keeping plenty of brush between he and I.  I live for the runup to what I consider "end game".  At that point nine times out of ten I will be PK'd in the North at a hotspot or I will venture down to the coast hoping to help newbs (and usually ending up PK'd there as well).  Some people really seem to enjoy that part of the game, so I'm just part of the life cycle.  I am OK with that.  It really makes the encounters where you find a fully armed guy who doesn't shoot you when you walk in the door that much more interesting and thought provoking.

That doesn't mean I'm not attached to my "character" or my gear, my heart seriously races whenever I see another survivor, even if they are hundreds of yards (meters) away.  I have NEVER played a game like that.  And especially not one that does it over a year after I started playing it with countless "life-cycles" between then and now.  I still get upset when someone shoots me with no warning.  I think most of the time it could have been a good encounter for both of us (I always carry blood bag, morphine, and plenty of food/drink for anyone I would run across) if they wouldn't have pulled the trigger, but it's not the end of the world.

Just because I like the spawn, loot-up, get "bored", and repeat (and lone wolf) type of play doesn't mean that's the ONLY way to play.  You have to accept that or you'll post long non-sensical threads on an internet forum contradicting yourself.

  4. I found an FR and GER server still on the public hive, was good to log in for the first time in ages...

I logged in at stary sobor an my pal was in cherno... I had 3 kills before I moved from my log in spot... things were crazy from the get go.... heart in my mouth, pulse racing...

    ahh the good old days...

    MOAN THE STANDALONE!

    Three PKs?

  5. Its not like I'm lifeless i just left my friends who are douchbags, they smoke and drink and i think they killed a cat and we are only 14 ... after making that choice i started playing and its not that i don't have plans for this week its just at days without nothing 2do i just play like last days

My parents used to complain when my brother and I were your age and playing computer games.  We hunted and fished a whole bunch, but that's mainly spring/fall/winter activity.  So during the summers we would play a ton of computer games.  Reflecting on it years later (and still gaming, but not nearly as much as we were at 15-17 years old) my parents said they secretly didn't mind much.  It kept us out of trouble, they knew where we were, and we actually made great friends both in-game and in real life because of it.

Don't become a complete hermit, but if you are doing well in school and otherwise just kind of bored in the summer... DayZ sounds like a fine way to spend your time @ 14  years old compared to smoking, drinking, and killing cats.  Keep your nose clean!

  6. Agreed. so far the only Zombie interaction we have seen is in God-Mode where they (the players) don't take damage.

    I would like to see a demonstration of a new survivor's chance of making it through a noob loot-run through Electro;

    no AK-74 - No God-mode.

Perhaps this will give people a better idea of the changes made to the core mechanics.

What good does it do to see a fresh spawn loot now?  The game is no where near "finalized", doesn't seem to do much good.  I mean, if you just want to see authentic gameplay, I get that... but they are revamping everything so most of it probably isn't even functional the way they want.

10 bucks says the Alpha won't even come out until November. Dean and I have very different meanings of the words "soon" and "very close"

    And...?

they said the architecture is done. theres really not much more to do. the game is playable.

Says some guy on a forum.  Playable and able-to-be-launched-and-limped-through-on-Godmode-at-gaming-conference are very different.

almost 365 days(z) since the announcement... im starting to lose faith ! lol maybe this will be another Fallout 3, Far cry 2, Half Life 3...

Oh no, a game took over a year to develop after it was announced?!? - Diablo II fan 2008

I am not a computer programmer or software engineer, but I am an electrical engineer.  I have a rough idea of how things work and the nonsensical "grandstanding" by so many people cracks me up.  Thank God there are adults in charge of real-life things that don't think like you guys.

  7. Love the fact that you guys think you're "turning the tables" or "egging them on".

They don't care how stupid they look.  Look how stupid the OP looks for posting this... and it isn't even a particularly horrible example.  That sidechat snippet is more well written than papers I read in senior writting classes at a university.  For all you know (and I'd honestly bet a large sum of money) that guy is completely putting it on as far as teh stoopid ackt.

And you posting this... and experiencing greater trolling symptoms when you join the server is proof.  He's probably well adjusted when you aren't there.  But since you "find it enjoyable" even though you obviously don't... he wins.  People who are really trolling the trolls and enjoying it don't make posts on forums talking about how stupid a troll is then claiming to enjoy it.

  8. Zombies mostly ignore me now. I can run within meters of them without getting any aggro. I was more scared of them in 1.7.6.1.

I already know what would happen if zombies were deadlier in standalone: it would be a better game.

I don't know what you're talking about running within meters of them and not getting aggro.  Maybe I'm doing something wrong?  I have them aggro on me from crazy distances still.  And it seems like they communicate telepathically because once one aggros I have five or six aggro'd almost instantly.

Well zombies in DayZ are actually pretty much hard enough for me already. I guess making them harder would be more fun but them having the ability to run faster than myself? Its just crazy.

It is very very very very hard to see what the mod zombies would be like because of the glitchy movement.  Looking through the mod prism makes it hard to grasp what well fleshed out zeds would be like should they behave "naturally".  How frustrating is it trying to shoot at a zed that is running at an angle right now?

I'm pretty sure OP specified zombies could outrun you while you are running normally. You can still sprint though.

Then what's the point?  They already catch up to you when you're sprinting, but they have to stop to attack so that makes them appear "slow".  See above, if they get the zeds behaving correctly I am all for very difficult zombies.

As of now, you can crouch-run away from the infected and they won't have a chance to hit you since they have to stop to attack, even though they run at their full speed.

They are glitched. If SA fixes that, there is no need to up their speed.

    Yes.

The most frustrating part of the aggro on gun shot sound right now is that the zombies don't actually aggro to the "sound" they aggro to the player.  So if I were in Cherno fired in the grocery store with no zeds in eye sight they should run TO THE STORE... so theoretically you could slip out the back and only have to deal with zeds coming from that direction.  But now, if you fire they know where you are at and come around houses looking for you even if you're moving.  That's not the way it should be.

All that said, if you make zombies faster than me, much more numerous than they are now, similarly glitchy as in the mod, and more able to track me down I think I would give up.  Here's the truth no one really wants to hear... if I wanted to be continuely frustrated I could just stay at work.  And yes, I want a hard game.  I love the infection as it is now, I love the scarcity of ABs...  but in the precious few hours I get to do things other than work/family time, I still want to be able to survive.  I really think we need to see what good, naturally moving zombies look like before we start talking about how difficult to make them.

Maybe they should aggro on each other to some extent?  That would help make loads of them all wadded up, but would help clear out some areas for fresh spawns to loot a bit.  It's frustrating as it stands with the seemingly mind reader zeds either in buildings or entering buildings right when you do.  :)

  9.

Face it. This game had to ship one year ago when everyone was still playing it. Now literally no one really cares about it anymore and the only reason it is still beeing played by a small amount of people is that there are a few dedicated modders around that keep on developing the mod and keep it alive. If these people wheren't around, DayZ would be as populair as Kim Jung Il. I do understand that it takes time but you can't take forever, and if you do take a lot of time, at least show the community something about the progress. If you can't show any progress or don't care about informing the community about it you have probably nothing to show/talk about at all.

I suspect you're just trolling, but if not you're a complete dolt.

Had BI repackaged the mod and "shipped" it out to folks you'd likely be playing nothing better than what the vanilla mod is today with the possibility of less available content depending on how BI would support other mods.  But it would be "DayZ Standalone" so you'd have some big-ole wood for it?  What Rocket was originally talking about and what the SA is now evolving into are to entirely different things.

This clamoring for a game and a game NOW, is a bit nutso.  I play and have only played straight up vanilla DayZ... and 99% on public hives.  I haven't cracked the world of DayZ Mod mods... and I don't plan on it either.  I have played this game for hours per day for days on end and I've not played the game at all for days on end.  It's not the end of the world if you simply walk away from a game.  If DayZ and DayZ Standalone are so dead and "no one really cares about it anymore" then why are you on here bemoaning that there's no SA?

There's still plenty of fire for this game, plenty of people genuinely interested in how it ends up turning out, and plenty of people that would purchase it later this afternoon, or this Christmas, or next Thanksgiving.

    Original DotA mod - 2003  DotA 2 (standalone) - 2013

Do I think it will take ten years for BI to release the DayZ standalone?  No, but what if it does?  Should I take that personally?  You guys act like the only way to cope with the fact that the SA isn't able to be played by the public (as is) is to pay for it and THEN not be able to play it as is.

    Come on.

  10. Actually, the country is primarily influenced by the Czech republic. They domestically produce their own weapons. All of which are badass.

I understand that, I guess what I meant was Eastern(ish) European.  The SKS was built/sold all over the Czech Republic area, including some direct neighbors.  Just saying there should be some laying around.  :)

  11. So did I! Just this morning.

I'm playing with by far my most geared up character yet, but managed last night to get into an unnecesary fight with a zed and got infected. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise when I logged on this morning and saw a crashed heli. I had been avoiding these because of the risk and because I had almost everything I needed, but thought I'd check it out and see if there were any antibiotics. En route there was a farmyard and, standing next to it, was a ghillied player with his DMR out. I have not idea is he was AFK or if it was a corpse glitch but I managed to take antiBs from his ALICE pack and also his NVGs, the first pair I have yet found in-game. I also, in case he was alive but AFK, dropped my DMR and revolver and replaced them with his DMR and G17 (and 5x silenced G17 ammo).

A good haul, which wouldn't have happened if I hadn't got needlessly infected!

Now that's the kind of robbery I can get behind.  :)

  12. Yeah, I played 150 hours or more last year without seeing one, and found three in the first week since coming back at the start of this month.

That describes me almost exactly as well.  But I found a few in the past, but not like it is now.  There was someone commenting in the sidechat a couple of nights ago that he found some really close together.  I figured he was at the two I found, but he wasn't.  There were 3-4 in a similarly close together cluster in a different location.

  13. Its always vanilla yes.

    and full of hackers.

    False.

Public hive really isn't any better or worse than private hives in terms of hackers nowadays.

I have been killed/teleported more on private, whitelisted hives than I ever have on public... and I have played probably 90% of my time over the last year+ on public.

  14. I always have 1 bandage and rest of it is mags. I keep the rest of my bandages in my backpack.

At the rate I am going through bandages in this newest version I'd forget to load them back into inventory and die.  I usually run with at least two in my usable inventory, any extras are in the pack.  I've been playing this most recent spawn for about three days (I don't play much each day).  I bet I have used 15 bandages already, and I don't even get into combat much... the bleed rate is crazy right now.

  15. I bought a Logitech G500 about a year ago.  I don't go bind crazy on mouse buttons, so I never really did much with the config.  I have had two major complaints since I bought it.  First, it is constantly scrolling.  It doesn't matter much in most circumstances, but in DayZ I am constantly... and I mean CONSTANTLY having to right click or spin the center mouse button to "cancel" a weapon change or action.  Second, when I'm in combat I have died multiple times... probably 15-20 times because in the heat of battle with zeds with rapid mouse movement my mouse will scroll and my next "shot" will actually be a weapon change.  So I will stand there doing weapon swap animation getting beat on by zeds.

I had modified my controls at one point to remove the mousewheel from any use in DayZ so that I could avoid this.  While it worked, it was a HUGE pain to select anything from a multioption menu.  So I just learned to deal with it.

Fast forward to yesterday, I finally did some searching on the net.  I saw a blog of a guy having a similar problem and he basically made a fabric friction "wedge" to slow down his mouse wheel.  One person on the blog commented that "maybe you have just pressed the "turbo scroll" button and didn't realize it.

Guilty as charged.  When I first bought the mouse it probably had the button pressed when I was unpacking it or during shipping.  I KNOW I had pressed that button in the past, but never thought it did anything.  Because I'm a anal bastard, if I press that button once, I ALWAYS press it a second time to "reset" whatever function that button may have.  So I got on last night and played for about a half hour with the correct mouse wheel setting and it was dreamy.  It only took me a year to figure it out, so not too bad, right?
