Maybe a radical idea. After dying let's kick the player from server and add him to a temporary ban list streamed to all servers for, say, 30 minutes. This will prevent immediately running back for gear after respawning, raise the value of life, allow proper mourning and since the player will be kicked out when trying to reconnect it might ease server strain a bit. Of course it kinda sucks when you're killed by bug but hey - more tears. :p
