But you wouldn't know their intentions until they did something that made that obvious. Being just close enough to someone doesn't tell you ANYTHING about them. In fact anyone that being in proximity someone means they can read their intentions to are either living in a dreamworld or are very judgmental people. and judgmental people are VERY often wrong. I disagree. Sorry about the over 20 words. Wanted to show the grounding to such a feature. The heart beat is just an indication but just because you hear it, -the question is how loud will it be to mark a mass player killer verse someone who has done some bandit like kills but are not a kill on the spot player. There is a degree of error from what you perceive. Actually Rocket mention this in another thread -Early survival - Going further- http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=11486&pid=106987#pid106987 "I want to give people a torch, but you need a backpack to put the torch away currently. So I think people need a backpack to start. " So if we had a torch then we could test the no gun and limited supplies in a more structured way. But this is something that I'm assuming would be in the future. But would be interesting. -

I like where you are going but i would say stay away from one hit kill- IEDs. Traps should all injure/ broken leg, bleed, etc but not kill you instantly. Flare gun would be an interesting gun if you shot a player or even hurt a Zed with it. With stuff like tranquilizers you could a have the script to a check on the player's blood level. Higher blood level means the dart only blurs vision while a player low in blood would fall unconscious for a set number of seconds. Poison is something that has to be handled with care because the player needs some why or option to be able to spot if the item is poisoned. All poisoned items sound not be a one hit kill. Its better to have poisons create weird states like suddenly hearing Zombie sounds or gun shots. The idea is to use them in a smart way which you have some laid out like this and also to not make anything as a instant kill since players would find ways to abuse these tactics which before you know it people will be poisoning beans as much as they DC. Over all some good ideas which i suspect we might se something on this over all topic in game. -

The concept is cool but this is something that won't be close to possible till the DayZ mod is a game or further in Development. You could give it a try. I would be happy to stop by and trade with you guys. If they introduce booby traps this will help with ideas like this to be more possible. I say test it out but expect players to try to loot the place or cause issues but that pusk and pull can create some great moments in the DayZ World. -
Radios would be great. Radios could also allow players to hear that static and maybe other survivors (NPCs) or event updates on what is going on to build the lack of hope and the feeling your own your own. Stationary Radios (large ones) would also be good tools to trigger or give players hints on tasks/side missions that could be done. IE. Getting power back to city/town even if the lighting is limited.

What I learned is first find a weapon before you meet up with any armed players unless you already know them. You can team up with other un armed players but becareful once you come across a gun hopefully there are two :) I always feel that droping my bag and having just bandage,canteen, and I can of beans (you could carry less even) sends a message hey you could kill me but you wasted a few round and gave nothing really. No backpack= you even have less of a chance of getting anything from my body. -

It is a question of how player will react to a change as having no gun and limited gear is something you can't foresee. You would have to test it and get feed back from players. I can see this being tested in a separate Hardcore Patch where players can play and give feedback and certain servers would use this patch while others kept the original one before it. But I feel there needs to be a few more mechanics in before this is even tested. A less gear and gun with no extra clips is more likely first. -

I'm on the fence with Melee Weapons. I don't see them very useful against Zeds I see Melee weapons against Zeds is like feeling like you die fighting verse screaming/crying like a child. It's more of a mental state verse it actually going to save you. Where I see Melee weapons being used more in Player verse Player conflicts. The question is how would this be balanced with player verse player melee type combat? On one point I can see how Melee weapons would be nice to have but I don't see them as fully needed and since the engine does have them, Melee weapons i can see as something later in dev. cycle getting tested

I'm assuming they will put it in so if your behind a rock or tree they can't get a reading. Player has to see you and be close. That's what my impression was of the mechanic. I agree it should not be a metal/player detector. -

YES This would work well with the players spawn with no gun. why? Imagine the amount of Humanity you would lose for killing an unarmed/ helpless character! -

YES I see that Arma2 can have FOG as an effect like Rain. Just cast a decent amount of Fog that hangs all along the beach areas/ spawn areas. This will give new spawned players cover for a few meters before they leave the Fog area. Problem solved. -

YES I would say they should look at how far does a person need to be in order for someone to read another person's face/expressions. I read somewhere it was about 25 ft or less /or about 8 meters or less. Of course if something is in the way or night this figure could be different. A cone/line of sight mechanic could be used to show if an object is in the way. -
I believe when they start introducing mission/tasks you could do like turning power back on for a town/city then you will see players gravitate to this verse hunting players for sport. The interesting aspect with the question about when you decide to hunt other players is that....This is when a person loses their humanity. This is where morals and rules inside the person start to blur and you rationalize why hunting players is ok when you spent 10 plus days as a lone wolf survivor. Some players like ZedDeadBaby decided to keep his character's sanity by making the rule that this is his territory and he will only kill if they are in his territory/home. Other players just start taking more risks as if they are trying to get killed by chancing Zed attacks and even coming across Hostile Players, and some simply start killing ever player seen for loot or just because they can. This happens when the human mind loses the one thing we all need decide Love,....PURPOSE. In the beginning the Purpose is to survive and get gear/weapons but as we start building up our pile of goodies we start feeling a little more safe and then our minds start thinking of a new purpose. Task/Missions and maybe if they place some dynamic events(triggered by % equation) then players will be able shift their PURPOSE to thinks like building a new life and even trade as well as factions,..etc... DayZ is amazing experiment that keeps getting better!

DayZ is about the experience. You can actually feel fear in the game. Fear of lost, Fear of uncertainty.... Each character Life is another story in the DayZ world

Thanks guys! I would say for players who just lost their character due to Death, Try this out and see how it feels emotionally and post what you like or didn't like. Tell us if you dead due to Zeds or Bandits or starving. How long did you survive? Did players shot you or did you feel they might have not wasted that bullet since you had no back pack or gun? How did you feel when you got a back pack? gun? gear? As for those who have mention 1 clip (from other threads) in gun and no to few gear, give that a try to and see how it also feels when you play. DayZ is an experiment and the best way to test ideas out is to try them out. -

I'm for the No Weapon but night game would need something to help players to get this to work. Side note- As for Melee Weapons, do you think they will really save you from a group of zombies. If your using a Melee weapon you better have one Zed or your Dead.
