The ONLY Realistic Way to Prevent Deathmatching: Make DayZ a Living Hell
logan23 replied to Time Glitch's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
DayZ is a brutal game but with every new challenge you place in front of the player- there needs to be ways to problem solve it. Like the use if cans and bottles to distract a Zed. -
The ONLY Realistic Way to Prevent Deathmatching: Make DayZ a Living Hell
logan23 replied to Time Glitch's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The idea is to make ammo for military guns very rare. But the military guns themselves are less rare then the military ammo. Over time players will build up to these guns but ammo will be short. So you fire a few shots with your military gun= now your empty and good luck finding ammo... Since its very rare. The focus of this idea is to remove the heavy military weapon/ammo stock piling. You want that military weapon- fine but your going to have to manage your lack of ammo-- While other players have lower level guns but more ammo for them. You see a player with a military gun and think I can shoot them and get it--but during the gun fight that player used up all the ammo in it. Great job you just killed a player for a paper weight. -
PvP does not need a nerf. Loot spawns are still being tweaked and many other mechanics are in the works that could resolve these issues without going to the Nerf. It's alpha and we shouldn't make judgements on the state of DayZ now as if it's Beta or finished. What we gave right now a rough outline with chapter titles and more detail outlines - if this was a book. It has acways to go. Rocket is going to be testing new ideas and systems and Alpha and Beta could be so different like night and day.

Why not sweeping/resetting Servers and Characters with every new Version?
logan23 replied to HerrEilig's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I say first, yes this should happen but the decision on which build should lead to a full wipe of characters and servers--should be determined by Rocket and his team. I believe when the social/team/ settlement mechanics and large changes in gear/loot table spawns are implemented, then this will happen do the Devs can see if there design promotes the environment they wish to have. I'm going to make a guess in the next 2-3 builds we will have a server character full wipe. -
DCing to avoid death should not be fixed untill zeds are fixed
logan23 replied to Inzight's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
DCing is for cowards... I'm sorry. People can rationalize all they want for why they do it but when it cones down to it-- You should never DC to save your ass. Man/Woman up and either find away to escape the Zeds or Players.... Or just face your death with honor. This is an alpha-- you should be experimenting and not get to attached to your character or their gear. I suspect sooner or later they will have everyone start over-- where you will Lose your old characters. This will most likely happen when loot/weapon/ ammo spawns are greatly changed and also the building settlement mechanics come in. Why this will happen? It's the only way to test the social society building- you need to remove all the stock piled weapons and gear to see if loot and spawn rates work to create the environment they wish to persue -- so people please don't get to invested in your gear and please stop DCing. Only the Weak DC in the face of danger. -

Making PvP and PVE servers would destroy DayZ. What's great us it allows both to be there. DayZ is brutal and as it progresses we will see it be brutal to all playstyles as it should be. The Zeds and environment are the tools of the Devs to bring real tension and fear in a way that the old D&D board games where the Dungeon Master is there to keep players on their toes and to basically mess with them - adding conflicts. I expect DayZ to get even more hard core where We will see the true PvPers who love the challenge verse the ones who cry because they want to just shoot players without any walls or tension. -
Solve it = 1)Disable Alt+F4 2)If player is bleeding when they Disconnect then they die. 3)When I player clicks Abort- to DC, there will be an hour glass icon that fills up before your character is allowed to DC. This means your character is staying there for the 10secs-20secs. This will remove the DCing issue.

The ONLY Realistic Way to Prevent Deathmatching: Make DayZ a Living Hell
logan23 replied to Time Glitch's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
If you add in Skills that a player can learn- like from a found book on medicine or fixing vehicles- would make players themselves more valuable where a clan might not shoot the random player if say he will help them medicine or some other item/issue. All players would start the same but there would be ways to build some skill sets/focus which adds to a player being more valuable alive then dead.......but still keep an eye on them in case of backstabbing. But this will give players a chance to prove themselves to a group- build trust. Once people start building a social network then the ones who are just here for pking will end up being hunted down or they will embrace the new game mechanics that are geared to survival and society building/ social. Yes there will be groups who will fight for territory but that is what we see in the Show The Walking Dead and other shows/movies on this type of game. To prove my trust to people I meet, i offer items/food/ ammo and also allowing the person I'm with to call first dibs on weapons..etc....This usually calms them down and shows them I do have their back. -

DCing from snipers, snipers complaining.

So if i'm bleeding and have to go do something in real life' date=' but not actively engaged in PVP than I still have to suffer? [/quote'] What is the point of DCing when your bleeding? Are you using the DCing to get away from Zeds,??? I don't see your case? -
The only way i can see body armor,..would be player made ones,..you would need several items to make one. and even then I'm still unsure it should allowed,..not at this level of the game's development. We need other mechanics in first before this could be properly tested
-
I agree, military ammo and sniper ammo,....should be more rare then the weapons. This will push players to choose between a shot gun which will have a higher chance to find ammo for or keep that military weapon which might only have the rounds in the gun/one clip and ..take a chance that it might take a long time till you discover another clip of ammo. But for this to work- you need to reset all player characters to remove the ammo stock piles, players have been hording for weeks.
-
I believe that making ammo for high military guns very rare then this could calm the situation because you can take someone else's gun and remove the ammo. Ex. Player A see player with same gun. Player A kills player B..but all player B has was the same gun with a few rounds in the gun, no spare. Player A just wasted 1-4 rounds / depending on the gun. What will happen is Players A ,B , and C all have military guns- there is no point of killing each other since it will be a waste of ammo. They will team up or leave each other alone,..or kill each other if they feel that they are a threat. And if your the player who is getting killed- you should just fire all your rounds before you pass out and bleed out- now the person who killed you gets less.
-
Most of the time you won't lose your connection when your bleeding. Since you usually patch yourself up fast. But if your bleeding and DC.....I would imagine your going to bleed out- so it make sense to have that character die. The odds of a disconnect happening and bleeding at the same time is small.

Maybe there needs to a function that says - If Player is Bleeding= TRUE ; Then Player dies when they disconnect. This would limit a good deal of DCing. -

Until we see team building mechanics, we will see more and more DCing due to the lack of trust among players. Everyone thinks this is a LOOT base game, and not a SURVIVAL base game. I like to see ammo for high level military guns rare along with sniper rifles and/or their ammo. This means killing another player will cost you precise resources. I would like to see a decrease in the ability to horde gear/items. This means sometime in a future update- there should be a reset where all players are sent back to the start. Now this should only happen when/ and if they decide to revamp the military and high level ammo/guns. This is needed to better test the behavior of players since we will not have any players with 10 clips of military ammo/ and all the top guns hidden in tents. Also the reset should also only happen when the anti- DCing mechanic is in place and working. I say Alt+F4 should be disabled. -

I wonder.... If we look at the numbers... Are there more DCing now then a month ago? If this is true.... I wonder if the heavy shoot first and ask questions later is actually promoting this DC behavior? I never DCed. If I get killed, I get killed-- it's no big deal since it's alpha. I am wondering if this is becoming a more vicious cycle of more player killing = in crease of players doing DCing? Im also wondering are the DCing people high end gear or low end gear. Are we seeing more highly armed or even snipers being the players who actually DC? I look forward to when players can't DC. It's just a cowering act. Reminds me when your a kid and there is somone about to be tagged it, and they suddenly pretend you never touch them..or it was not long enough-- for them to become it. I wonder.... Trust is something that comes from spending time talking and working with each other. Right now DayZ does not have the mechanics for this. Future mechanics will solve this issue. You should not have to find a group offline to play as a team in DayZ. If you can find answers to this question then you know how to build a more team base feel- there will always be player killing but this should not be the end goal - survival /build a society is the goal. I like to hear some ideas that answer this question.... How do you make a player more valuable alive then killed for his loot? And the answer is not it's better to have numbers for defense. I like to hear some ideas that answer this question....

Will there be away to disarm bear traps? Using tools? Shhot them or hit with hatchet or crow bar?

From the last few posts I determine to solve or balance the who shoot first is... How can you make a player an asset to a group of players. If your in a group/ team of players who know each other, what would the player you bump into need to contribute or what can this player provide which will be more valuable to your team then killing him and looting the body. That is the question that needs answering. If you can answer this then you will know how to cut down on random killings and make it fun for unknown players to meet and work with each other. (hint the answer is not larger numbers for defense from others) See if anyone here can answer it, I challenge you all to find the answer to this. -
Cannibalism and extentions to chernarus,
logan23 replied to mr_plores's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Cannibalism is something usually done out of desperation but we know players will simply use it as another reason to kill a player or get a few extra points to their blood. Cannibalism needs to have a heavy penalty like getting a disease Example: "Kuru is an incurable degenerative neurological disorder (brain disease) that was probably transmitted among members of the Fore tribe of Papua New Guinea via cannibalism. Kuru is a Fore word that means 'to shake' People with Kuru tremble and shake" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannibalism "Kuru is an incurable degenerative neurological disorder that is a type of transmissible spongiform encephalopathy, caused by a prion found in humans.[1] The term "kuru" derives from the Fore word "kuria/guria" ("to shake"),[2] a reference to the body tremors that are a classic symptom of the disease; it is also known among the Fore as the laughing sickness due to the pathologic bursts of laughter people would display when afflicted with the disease. It is now widely accepted that Kuru was transmitted among members of the Fore tribe of Papua New Guinea via cannibalism.[3]" So if DayZ had Cannibalism there could a virus meter/number count of pathogen. When this numbers get to a certain count you start to get Kuru, which you can't cure. the shakes would be every so many minutes but heating human flesh to many times = constant tremors. This means players would only do this- only when they are actually starving. -

The system is not meant to stop PvP ,no more then the Temp system is meant to stop a player from playing in the rain. The system is meant to bring another layer to the game. Some players will not like the idea since they don't want any interference with the way they want to PvP, but the rest will look at it as something new and brings a nice layer to the experience. Just as they took away weapons to bring a new layer of fear into the game, so this new humanity system level will bring a more defining experience to those who play more PvP or simply kill players. It's about bring many layers to many different playstyles. Many of the cut down on PvP will come from content on building society, I believe.
