This crazy lag and drop in FPS seems to be serverside..
chibigoat replied to messsiahhh@gmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
This seems accurate, I have a pretty good, normal FPS in Seattle servers and 10 fps in dallas servers. Also I'm stuck as a bandit skin and am not a female >_ -
So I've been having problems with fps since the new patch, my fps was stuck at 10 and a lot of people had this problem so I decided to check some different servers to see if it would stop, I joined a new seattle server and sure enough I'm back up to a steady 35-60 fps. BUT of course, now my character model changed, I had this 10 fps on a dallas server and had chose my female model there. I changed over to the seattle one and now I'm a male character again. EDIT: Uhh.. I'm also still a bandit skin... lol

Lmao, totally forgot I put that in there. Thank you, much appreciated. -
So I've been thinking a little bit and I started thinking because I was feeling a sort of boredom, like the only way to be entertained further with DayZ is to go around killing people, otherwise there's no point. You find gear and then what... you go and kill people. That's not the point of this game, the point of this game is survival and realism, you should be treating this game as if it's real life which may sound ridiculous but it's a simulator and that's simply how you're supposed to take it. I'll be honest, I've been playing this game for maybe a week now and have 65 hours logged, maybe after the first 3-4 days I became a bandit and killed most everyone I came across simply because I was tired of being killed for no reason, this is not what people should be doing, at least not without cause. We should take absolutely every thing that happens in this game and apply it to real life, "what would I do in this situation" or at least what do you think you would do because obviously you wouldn't positively know. It's true that there are crazy ass people in this world and if a sort of zombie apocalypse were to come to be then these people would most likely become serial killers but in DayZ I'd guess at least 70% of people are serial killers whether that's because they have to kill people to survive (which easily comes with the alternative of asking for a few supplies) or they kill people for the fun of it. These people who kill for the fun of it should actually be mentally messed up in real life, though this is technically a game it's been talked about by rocket and some others that it's more of an anti-game which I take to be you don't just do whatever you want for fun, you do what you have to do to survive because this is a simulator, it's here to simulate what might happen in real life, so you should take it that way. I think a primary reason for bandits killing others for fun is simply that... it's fun for them. I don't think they have considered the alternative though. I read the forums a whole lot and have seen what people hate and what people love and what they want changed or fixed or whatever. So a lot of what I'm saying is based off of that and my in-game experience. That alternative, which I recently read in a post is to, like I've been saying, take it as if it were real life. You should be sneaking through every aspect of this, just imagine as if there's a sniper on every mountain top and a horde of zombies around every corner because these two situations could very well come to be. I've been that sniper on the mountain top and no, I don't regret it but I can say with a sort of confidence that I don't plan to do that again because that's in no way realistic to what I personally think I would do in a zombie apocalypse situation. I create this thread with hopes of making people realize that this is a simulator and unless you truly think you would kill people in real life in cold blood (which is extremely unlikely) then you should not be doing that in this game. An argument presented against this is that "COD fags" are picking up this game and are the ones killing people for fun and don't give a shit if it's a simulator. That does indeed present a problem but I don't see any real way of getting rid of these people, they paid the money for the game so they should be allowed to do what they want, right? Your response to this doesn't have to be "KILL EVERYBODY, FUCK EVERYTHING! GRRGLGLRGLRG". A realistic response would be to hide and blend in with the shadows, in real life people are programmed to do absolutely everything to avoid death, this game is attempting to simulate real life.. think about it. I think with that, there should be nobody running along the coast or running along roads or railroads or through the center of a city which comes as a sort of common sense but simply because there are bandits out to get you. You know bandits are out to get you, don't give them the pleasure of getting that kill. People should be adapting to the night, where it's much more difficult to be seen and detected, in that situation it is much easier for you to be sneaky and to loot that store. I know this is much easier said than done because I myself prefer day time but if it's what you have to do then it's what you have to do. Survival is #1 priority, you should rarely encounter people and if you do then you should have the jump on them because your priority is survival. Murder can be justified only if you truly are doing it to survive. If your blood is at 200 and slowly going down maybe because you're sick, then you should kill that guy for his beans, you may not even have time to ask but if you do have the time, you should do that first. A little tip, I've noticed that if people don't reply right away to "friendly" they are either one: A noob who doesn't know how to use chat, or two: hostile. That DOES NOT mean go kill them (unless you are extremely close to death such as the 200 blood scenario) because by going to them and shooting them you are severely risking your own life, they could shoot back or you could agro zombies or both. You should feel a sort of connection with your in-game player as weird as that may sound. Kind of like if you were in the Gamer situation (You know, that movie where the people control the guys in jail in a sort of war). In the end, people will do what they want but I'd really like to see people try to avoid going over to the dark side though it may be easier or more fun, survival is not easy and it's not supposed to be fun, that sounds a little odd since we are indeed playing this game because it's fun, but hopefully you understand what I mean. That'll be all for now. [EDIT]: If you feel like these bandits are too tough for you, train yourself. Play through the boot camp levels or play through the actual campaign or something, look up videos on real army stealth tactics, do what you need to do to avoid dying by the hands of these people who can't take the game seriously. PS: I don't give a shit if this has been posted.. which I know it has but this is opinion based meaning it is literally impossible for somebody else to have posted this so please, whoever wants to whine about this being posted already or being in the wrong place, get off my nuts. Also, I know there are separate forums for both bandits and survivors but I want everybody to be able to see this. Thanks for reading, - Chibigoat

Don't Let The Bandits Change You
chibigoat replied to chibigoat's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Lol, appreciate it. I do want to clarify that I don't have a problem with bandits in the way of being killed by them, so I'm not complaining about that. I don't usually have much of an issue killing bandits, I'm talking about what would make this game ideal. -

It seems like we should be more affected when we shoot guns. Hearing should be impaired and there should be ringing. Also, when we shoot we should be shaking and nervous, adrenaline would be pumping, unless there is some sort of back story to all these survivors that makes them completely used to shooting guns. Any thoughts?
-
But adrenaline? Have you ever shot a gun before? Are you saying when you are shooting a gun in a life or death situation there is no adrenaline involved? My heart races in real life when I'm simply shooting somebody in this game. I've shot a couple .357's and .22's but it was at an indoor range with no life or death situation.

So, before I created this thread I did a search on these and found nothing. My first idea would be Insects/Bugs in general. Things like mosquitoes and bees that actually interact with you for example, you can run near some sort of bee hive and get swarmed and stung and be bleeding and stuff until you bandage, similar to a zombie attack or bullet wound or something. With mosquitoes comes disease, you can catch disease from mosquitoes and maybe be affected by the itching in a way that you lose the ability to concentrate or something. Bears should be implemented simply because it's a huge ass forest... but, is it even possible to add things that aren't in the original game? I don't want to go on too much about this if it isn't possible in the first place.

Steel bolts and taking them
chibigoat replied to mind_grenade's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This is interesting and kind of goes with my way of thinking. First of all, is it even realistic to be able to retrieve arrows? It doesn't seem like it unless you shot the arrow and it hit nothing but softly came back down onto the ground. With this I provide an alternative. Since it's not realistic to be able to retrieve arrows (just assuming so), arrows should come in stacks of 5-10 or something like that and actually stack in the inventory. When I thought of this I immediately thought of quivers but then realized, how realistic is it to find random quivers hanging around? SO, with that I came up with the idea that you should be able to get leather (from cows) and some sort of string, maybe from certain plants or trees and be able to make a quiver that holds all your arrows so that you can have way more of them and have them take up way less space, this way you follow the reality of not being able to pick up the arrows and it makes the crossbow much more useful. I personally think it's kind of ridiculous that it takes more than 1 arrow to kill something, at the same time it is somewhat realistic I suppose, depending on where you shot. It's only ridiculous because the reload time is painful... So with this quiver idea, that is much less of a problem since arrows would take up such little space. -
Nice to see people here are actually being helpful rather than "OMFG IT'S ALREADY BEEN POSTED GRGLGRGLRGLRGGRRGGLRLG"

I thought the update to remove bandit skins and add random skins around chernarus was supposed to be out yesterday (thursday). I've looked around to find an update on this but haven't found anything, was it not supposed to be out yesterday?

PORTLAND Server is broken for me - All others are fine
chibigoat posted a topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I live in Portland so that's a pretty significant server for me and after the new patch that is the only server that doesn't appear to want to work, when I try to join I get the error: "bad version, server rejected connection" It also some times goes red down in the required part and says 1.60.92767. What am I doing wrong and how can I get this server to work for me again? -
Which T-Shirt design would you buy?

What bandit are you?
chibigoat replied to j.dade@hotmail.co.uk's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Probably a mix between a Basic Bandit and a Troll Bandit, though I don't do that too often. -
Lol, I try to avoid killing innocent people but after a while of being killed in cold blood yourself... you tend to be left with no choice.
